I wonder if there are two Sonjas. The one I encountered was not kind of professional but rude and insulting. Not happy here. Dumpy place. Nothing gets fixed properly. Don’t feel safe here. Leaving soon. There are mice and other problems. Billing is not transparent. The management does not seem to care. They are nice to potential tenants probably. But not the ones who live there already. Pool was closed all summer. Trash is all over the place. Gross!

Update: Ive emailed the person indicated by the responder a week ago and have yet to receive a respond. Ill be contacting the city regarding this issue.I recently found out that the leasing office doesnt have my key on file. Ive lived here long enough that maintenance has used the master copy to enter my apartment multiple times in years past to fix various issues. Theyve literally misplaced/lost the key to my apartment. I asked to have the locks changed because this is a major security issues especially for woman living alone. Anyone could have the key to my apartment, they could enter my home to rob me, assault me and/or murder me. The respond I received insinuated that the locks must have been changed by me and that I need to bring my keys down to the leasing office for them to make a copy. I have been using the same key that was provided to me by the leasing office when I moved in. Do not move in to this apartment complex they do not care about the tenants safety. If they have misplaced my keys imagine all the other keys they have misplaced but are to cheap to do an inventory, check all keys and change all the locks necessary.

Very nice location BUT... many of the residence here are very ghetto and inconsiderate and just don’t care how the place looks that they live; as I walk around I’m thinking this place looks like a waste basket. And at times the smell of weed is so strong it’s almost as if I am smoking in my unit. I just wish they would consider adopting the same standards as Seneca Village across the street.

DONT LIVE HERE!Every review you read is 100% accurate. I lived here for only a few months and left. In those months I went through 2 refrigerators, a month of no heat and hot water (all of January), miscellaneous maintenance issues that probably are still not fixed, a leaking ceiling in the bathroom, and mold. Its like pulling teeth just to get someone to fix anything here. The property manager does not care about the health of the residents. When I gave proof about my mold issue they didnt even flinch until I requested to move and talk to corporate. Then they just patched a whole and painted instead of cleaning it out. I moved out early and had to pay a move out fee and even that was difficult to get a response on who to even make the check out to. I know Ill get the generic response of please call us to discuss but I honestly think its company policy for them to not answer the phone or respond to emails. Attached are just a few examples of missed calls and emails that have no response. If you have a choice to live somewhere else do yourself a favor and do it.

This apartment complex mislead me into leasing. Of course, the leasing process was easy. Especially because covid, there was no In-person viewing. The agent just constantly kept in touch with pictures. What they did not tell me is that the complex has an infestation issue. They have a staff dedicated just to pest control. I noticed roaches and mice the same week I moved in. I have been here two months and am on my fourth pest control treatment. They say they treat 15 units for pests, twice a week. And that the pest list is always full. You will have to wait approximately a week for your pest person to come. And unless you intently request, they will enter your house at will. They give no notification nor even a call when maintenance is coming, unless you put up a fight. Considering I have had (Friday will be my fourth) pest control treatment, and they spray this pesticide all over your house at times( They’ve done it for mine twice), and pesticide is toxic. Environmental exposure to things like mercury, etc are a concern as a resident here now. Especially because the attitude is to take your wait on their pest control list because “they have 732 units to treat, and the list is always full.”I asked for Patsy to refer to her manager. She named dan. He will not call you back. When you ask for them to follow up, especially Pasty the pest control woman, they get back to you at leisure. I had an entire 30 minute conversation with her and asked her to have dan call me. She emailed me days later to say I was on the pest control list for the next week. I asked to speak to Dan to get the information for the management company of the complexes, as the office here does not manage the situations. I told them I felt very mislead about the complex given the pest situation. I’ve lived in this town for a very long time and have never experienced roaches, even in less visibly nice complexes. Let alone mice. They will ignore your calls and maintenance requests as well. They have things like locked light fixtures, that they will not attend to. However; they do control your electric bill. It isn’t run through a normal company, and it only comes every three months. Which is something that the leasing agent described, but incorrectly, per a follow up call to the rental office after moving in. They said “oh, he should have explained that better.”I pay for an upgraded unit. In sight, it’s a nice unit. But seeing roaches crawl into the cracks under the carpet, behind the kitchen back splashes, into the bathroom cabinets, and what seemed from the vents, for months at this point- all the office will say is that it takes time for the roaches to go away. And they will send pest control every week.Also. No matter when you pay your rent, even if it’s two weeks early, you will get threatening letters on your door saying that your rent is missing and that they need you to pAy in full or move out. It’ll say things like “we have bills to pay too” on it. You call the office and they say it’s the accountant. So apparently the same accounting team is creating this paperwork but doesn’t check your account. For instance I received the first notification like this moving in, after I had paid way in advance. It also took three weeks to get in contact with the accountant to have them reflect the $500 off rental special that my leasing agent assured upon the initial moving inquiries. It is very unsettling to receive things like this. The staff is very much like wolves in sheep clothing. I would not recommend living here. The location is nice, but maybe try a complex that offers tours and protects your rights. Gaithersburg city has different laws that Montgomery county so please beware, as the complex takes advantage of things that Montgomery county would normally protect you about such as vermin. Also, they have their Washington gas accounts messed up and linked other accounts to my unit. It was fine, as my account started under my name, however Washington gas will harass you into speaking to the officeAndSad, huge apt management companies

I was planning to move here but took my holding fee back after I could no longer overlook a lot of things already stated in prior reviews like customer service issues and conditions of the apartment at move in.Prior to my first visit to the property I submitted an online application. I assumed I wanted to live at The Gateway Apartments because of their pictures online and the location. My first time there the lobby looked like chaos. There was no receptionist or a sign in sheet so people were walking into the office and speaking with whoever they pleased - not realizing or not caring there was a queue of people waiting. I heard several people become upset because they felt they were jumped in line.I waited to speak with Patricia because I was told she was the one who would be leasing me an apartment as she had my application. Patricia, was reluctant to show me the model apartment because “it wouldn’t look anything like my apartment.” She also seemed very eager for me to not be in her space. Anyway, their model is an apartment with updated upgrades. Most of the lower price apartments do not have upgrades and that is what I applied for. Still, I wanted to see their product. She eventually showed me the apartment after my mother and I kept suggesting we wanted to see it.After my first visit, Patsy and I communicated via email. In her emails Patsy had no recollection of the things we said in person which was frustrating because she told me she would be able to hold an apartment in person but via email she said she could not. After refreshing her memory, she was able to hold the apartment she told me about after I provided a $300 money order. She told me to leave the money order blank just in case I decide not to rent with them. The process was slow. Patricia told me she had issues with her computer and was slow to send me documents. Although I don’t understand how other computers in the office couldn’t have been used? I had to call the hours several times during the day and week to actually get someone on the phone. So I began to think about if I lived there how slow the service would be. I started to wonder how true the reviews on slow service and maintenance responses were.Fast forward a few weeks later....10 days before my move-in I stop by the office. When I walk into the lobby it looks like chaos again with people waiting and people jumping in line...& some guy waiting over an hour to interview for a position there (which I hope he got because they clearly need more help). It was important for me to see something similar to where I was moving into because my partner with whom I will be living with was coming to town on 1/19, we were scheduled to move in on 1/20.I asked to see the unit I was supposed to move in or something comparable but I was told they had nothing to show. I asked to just see any size unit that isn’t updated and they had nothing for me to view. I was disappointed and thought about the time when Patsy didnt want to show me the model.I decided to not move to the gateway due to recent reviews expressing how their apartment looked when they moved in. Im glad the money order was blank so that I could apply to another apartment community that was more customer service friendly and actually had product to show.

Avoid this place like the plague! Management is really good at creating an elegant and respectable first impression! Thats only to hide with their facade, their negligence and disregard to their tenants. Upon moving date the apartment wasnt ready so me and my wife had to scramble for a week to make do. Once we made it here, we realized that our washing machine was broken, It took ONE MONTH for the management to fix it. My wife and I had to take our clothes to the nearby laundromat during this period to clean the. About a month after that there was a leak due to a fault in the foundation that when it rained the water would enter through the wall and flood the house. Even after calling the emergency staff it took 2 weeks to repair. We had an infestation from German roaches, that is by far the most disgusting thing Ive seen. The numbers of these creepy crawlers were ridiculous, so many you wouldnt believe. The exterminator the apartment contracts only fumigated the kitchen, which killed a few the rest moved to other areas of the apartment. It was only by fumigating ourselves after researching online for good quality-products that we got it under control. Recently my kitchen sink got clogged because the neighbors upstairs threw oil down the sink, the backed up pressure blue the pipe. We woke up to the most horrid smell and a flooded apartment. Took 1 week to fix. This place is cheap yes but its not worth what they charge. Spend a little more else where and be happier and safer! Please! Trust me this is not the place for you.

------Very Very Important------If you are looking to move into this community please read the below review and decide. If your friends are here and that is the reason you wanted to join here think twice before you decide. I did the same mistake and I am suffering now.The maintenance is the worst part here. From Day 1 am facing issues here. They never respond to any calls other than emergency. You have to go to leasing office very often to get small things done. Emergency issues will be addressed immediately but re work has to be done shortly. The person who comes to fix will provide a temporary solution only they never will go deep into the problem and try to provide a permanent solution. The worst part is the rat. I inquired in the leasing office and they told me that there are no rats and we have a good pest control measure here. Within 2 months of moving i spotted a rat and when complained they told they will send person to take care of this. Every month I give complaint for rat and every month they schedule pest control. Waste of time.Every month there will be a water leakage and they will shut down the water for at least 3 hours without prior notice. After they shut down the water they will send a mail that the water is going to be stopped and please be prepared. Some of my friends faced many issues like there was no hot water for 3 days during winter. What will we do if not hot water during winter. One minor issue which I had was about the balcony blinds which were not changed before I moved in and it kept on falling apart. Almost 6 to 10 of them fell down. When I asked the leasing office they told me each one will cost $2.5 to be replaced. I fought with them and they replaced it for free. It is of worst and cheap material. The toilet leaks very often and they come and replace some part and something else goes wrong. Many people move here because of the school and this year the school rating has gone down too.It is better to move in to Brighton or Rolling Hills which is far better than here.Even after reading this if you decide to move in here it is your own fate.I would have given a 0 start review but Google didnt allow me.Think many time before you decide to come here.

My friend literally just got her keys so I was helping her move in. We finished pretty late so I decided to sleep over. I parked in the VISITOR spot...woke up to my car being towed. $152 later find out from TOWING COMPANY that even if parking in visitor you must register your car AND obtain a visitor pass to park in visitor. My friend was NOT informed and we assumed they had the selected visitor spots for VISITORS. When my friend tried reaching out to the leasing office to either get a visitor pass and/or a reimbursement since she was not informed she received NO CALL BACK! Only having her keys for 2-3 days has given her a horrible experience already. Look elsewhere. Most likely there will be every excuse why she was not only informed but they probably wont reimburse her. After spending the money to move in she cant get help to move because nowhere to park. And theres roaches. Stay away from this place!

I would like to start off by saying how truly satisfied I am with your maintenance department. I requested service to our unit and john showed up. As soon as John walked in, I knew that we were in good hands. Very proffesional and knowledgable with great communication skill. He guided me thoroughly throughout the repair process and assured me that he would take care of the issue the same day. I would like express my gratitude and appreciation for John as i believe that he is one of the best technicians your team is equipped with. Please acknowledge and recognize John for his great work ethic and customer service. I feel that he is a great asset for your maintenance department.

One star because 0 is not available. When we moved in we had to wait 1 hour to see someone just to have the keys (nobody came with us to the apartment). The apartment was just a mess with a missing door, we had to wait the next day to move in (and the apartment was better, but still nasty). We had to wait 1 week to have the mailbox key. Apartments are OK, but you must be OK with mice and noise. Your washing machine cant break down or you will wait 10 weeks for another one. In deep winter you may have ice inside, its so beautiful, as thermal insulation is nonexistent (even with new windows that they changed in March). Our car was towed because we parked one time at the wrong place (but nobody explained to us where we were supposed to park...). They let you know 2 hours before that water or electricity will be shutdown. And finally, when they make a mistake, they will try to convince you that... They didnt. If you can just look for another place to live, I cant wait to move from here.

Like many people in the reviews I have been having issues with A/C since May. Three times someone has come to look at the A/C unit and three times nothing has changed. EVERYDAY the apartment reaches above 85 degrees and does not cool down. My A/C unit needs to be replaced the refrigerant leaks and the compressor doesnt work. Planning on taking legal action if this continues. Anyone looking to live here please be advised that this is not somewhere you want to spend a single night let alone pay to live here.

The staff in the leasing office & maintenance are top notch, attentive & compassionate to tenants needs as a new tenant myself of only 4 days with the exception of the third party contractor vendor towing company (who’s responsibility it is to return my only vehicle appropriately tagged with legal parking permit); the staff at The Gateway is doing their best to ensure that my vehicle is safely and within legal liability returned to its location where it has ample appropriate parking as a new tenant who is mindful & respectful of all community regulations within provided knowledge to credit of all concerned- kudos!Thank you to the entire Gateway staff who’s doing the utmost to make my new tenancy safe, healthy & set right to rectify the issue w/a third party vendor contract. I appreciate & welcome the support and staff to accommodate and accomplish this.

This place should be rated with 0 star, 1 is a lot for it actually. We moved in last month and so ready to move out. The actual apartment is very old already, a lot of things are broken. I wouldnt complain because it is cheap, I understand. However, the management is the worst. The maintenance showed up after one month we had pointed out several problems in our apt. They didnt even fix properly. Dirty water comes out quite usually, which makes me feel it is normal thing. Clean water is a privilege for us. So disgusting! They dont even care about people health. Stay away from this place!

Please do not move here. This was our worst nightmare. Do not let the beauty of the rental office, and that fake look the employees put on to make you move. This place is hell on earth. I have never experienced anything like this. They don’t care about the tenants who are paying hard earn money. All they care about is receiving rent payments. Mice are your roommates FYI. Don’t even make the mistake to call for maintenance, you will have to figure it on your own. Employees are not welcoming, and they are full of attitude. They towed from 12 midnight to 9am in the morning. There is no free visitor parking for holidays. So if you have people visiting out of town, you will need to go get permit. If you are getting more permits, you may have to pay. The tow truck is on site at all times. I think he lives there. This place is so money driven it is sad. They are always short maintenance staff, but as you drive the complex, you will see these maintenance staff taking joyful rides on the golf carts. When you asked them for assistance, they will tell you I don’t work in that building. Come here if this is your last result. I really wished we had read the reviews prior to moving. Big mistake on our part.

I havent been here too long so not sure I can say to much regarding the actually living situation but so far its been pretty great! I love my apartment itself - theres a huge walk in closet with a washer and dryer. My patio is also really nice and big for a one bedroom apartment. The place is pet friendly which is extremely important to me since I live with my fur babies. Theres a good amount of parking and a nice gym and pool with grills. My only complaint would be that certain repairs in the apartment have still not been met even though I was told they would be completed before I moved in. However, my realtor throughout this whole experience was absolutely amazing and made the process of moving so smooth. It is my first moving experience and Jamie Shupe really took the time to explain and give honest opinions about everything - he actually lives in the complex too so its not like he was just trying to do his job and sell you an apartment like he genuinely wants to help you - which I think is important when looking for a home. The customer service was great, he even helped me start my car and went home to get me cables when my car battery died. I think if it wasnt for Jamie, I wouldnt have felt so comfortable and certain that this would be my home!

I just moved in recently and I am very satisfied with my experience here so far. My apartment is great compared to others I had looked at in the area, and it looks like things are being done to better the community as a whole too. I cant wait to cancel my gym membership in December when the property gym updates are done.

They dont care about their residents. Your apartment will be filthy when you move in. Maintenance will not fix things and if they do, its done poorly and they leave a mess in your house. You will have to repeatedly go to the office to get anything done because they hardly ever pick up the office phone. The apartment was treated for bugs and we started seeing more roaches AFTER the treatment. The buildings are hardly cleaned. I can go on and on. Please pick another place even if you have to pay more. This place will be the gateway to frustration.

DO NOT MOVE HERE - ITS HELL!Look at the older reviews, theyre the authentic ones.I moved in in February, I had to cancel my lease and pay the penalty. Thats how bad it is over there. Maintenance doesnt show up to fix your issues, management doesnt care and they have the worst property manager youll ever meet in your lifetime.Worst of all, they will charge you like hell when you move out and you wont get your deposit back.Roaches, Mice are your roomates.

We’ve been here for four months now and we regret it terribly. We signed a lease for a diamond apartment (the “newly renovated” ones) and it was far from the “well-appointed interiors” they advertised on their website. Their description on their website is such a reach. To start with the big things, upon our arrival, the shower drains were clogged in both bathrooms and the air conditioner was not working. We called maintenance repeatedly (our apartment was 85 degrees inside) and we were told it was not an emergency. They “fixed” our problem occasionally by lending us ONE small portable air conditioner for a few days at a time for the whole 2 bedroom apartment. This went on for about a month before finally fixing our unit (which required replacing a coil, taking all of two minutes). The washer was not hooked up to water and the dryer was filled with dirty work towels. As for all the minor details, the apartment looked like an amateur came in and fixed it up. The vent hood was ripped off the wall and they didn’t bother to patch it up. They put one handle on the cabinets and left the rest on the counter. There was a streak of red paint across our living room wall and dark spots all over the apartment. They tried to cover up the flaws of the cabinet with black spray paint. There were a bunch of holes in the ceiling where they replaced our light fixture. Every last nozzle and rod in the house was loose. And in the smaller bedroom closet we found a bunch of wires hanging out the wall which maintanence told us nothing could be done about. We are going on month four of our lease and we are still having problems finding someone that actually takes initiative in this place. It seems like problems always get handed off to someone else until everybody has decided they just don’t feel like doing it. The ONLY two people that do their job and care to help us are the Jamaican brothers on the maintenance team and though their work is appreciated, it’s not enough to save the complex. It’s safe to say we won’t be resigning when our lease is up.

Living here was a absolute nightmare. Management does not care for their tenants. They are very money hungry. Mice and roaches are literally your roommates. Getting rid of them was impossible because the apartments are so infested and old. There are mice inside the walls and you can hear them! It’s so disturbing and gross. If you call the office to fix a problem, forget about it! It will take over a month or more to be fixed. Management would have maintenance enter my unit to check the problem and not fix it, just to say that they came. They honestly do not care about tenants concerns or problems, just ask your neighbors! They portray this beautiful image to new/potential residents and in reality, this place is extremely gross.I’m still surprised the health department didn’t shut this place down.

I’ve been living here for ten months now and mostly love it. The greenery is beautiful and well-maintained, the view from my window is gorgeous, the location is extremely convenient (right by 270, walking distance from Fitness First and Aldi, across from Starbucks), and my apartment is beautiful with new flooring and fresh paint. The price is competitive and the area is very safe. I have not had the same issues as several reviewers have mentioned and am very happy with living in my apartment. However, my few experiences with getting minor repairs and communicating with the Leasing Center have been mixed as I often mentally prepare to wait for an hour to speak to someone in the office and a few weeks to have repairs done. With how many apartments are in this development and with how transient this area is, I honestly think staff needs to be doubled to efficiently meet residents’ needs.

Ive lived in the Gateway apartments for a little over a year now. The staff has always been friendly and the location is great. The price is pretty standard for the area. The units are nicely sized and the floor plans are functional. Having said that, the apartments themselves are old and outdated. The units are not fully cleaned between tenants and a lot of things are broken and dont work properly. I moved in as they were in the midst of some renovations to the water, heat and AC which I thought would make the minor inconveniences all worth it. Unfortunately this is not the case. It seems like every week there is an email notification that something new isnt working. The renovations are few and far between and we, as existing residents, were not given a timeline of when our units will be worked on or when it all is expected to be complete. There are pest issues- mine is currently ants. The maintenance staff may as well not be there for the work they do. Nothing ever actually gets fixed and thats after you have to send numerous requests for someone to even bother to show up. The website for the community needs to be more interactive especially for existing residents. Its clearly designed to bait prospective new residents but please dont be fooled. If the renovations arent complete by the time my lease is up, I will not be renewing.
