I brought my 2010 Odyssey to Carrsmith after the overpriced efforts of a well known local dealer failed to fix a chronic steering problem. Charles the manager, was analytical and careful in his approach to a complex issue with worn interacting front suspension parts. The car steers and rides like a dream now, like new in fact. The alternator blew a few weeks later and this time I took the vehicle straight to Carrsmith. For both repairs I considered the price reasonable. This is where I will have my repairs and maintenance done from now on.
Thank you again for your information and advice. They are really helpful!I have no idea about the car inspections. I found them on AAA and called them for the information. After they knew the car is 40 mi away from Gainesville, they even helped me look up the local Auto Repair information and contacts. They were so nice and patient that they were able to answer all of my questions professionally and transparently. I strongly and highly recommend this place for the car services, especially for the European cars.
I am still waiting here a full day for a tire change as Im writing this. Yes, they told me it would be a couple hours at 10 AM. I told him I was pregnant but I could wait a few hours. It is now 4 PM and they havent got the tire on yet. Would not recommend. I understand not being a tire shop and that they had to bring in a tire from elsewhere, but wow...... if I had been told my whole day would be taken by waiting, I wouldnt have waited here. They also didnt have the year of my car correct when they sent me notifications about it. Ive never had that happen before. Usually mechanic shops are spot on about the year/make/model. However, the mechanic at the end was more personable than the front desk staff member. He was taking final pictures of my car and was the friendliest there.
Im so relieved I found a shop that is fully knowledgable on the Mini Coopers. The Mgr. Charles was extremely professional and detailed in what I was to expect from their level of service. Between their high level of customer service and their digital diagnosis platform that keeps you in the loop real time, you feel the trust which is a high priority for me. The work done on my Mini was not just serviced, it was restored to a level of new. Highly recommend Carrsmith if you want the job done right.
Excellent work and outcome. Most important however is how nice and helpful Charles was again. I strongly recommend the work AND the people there.
Spoke to the shop owner today, Ray. He was very knowledgeable and had some great insights into a issue I was having with a vehicle I recently purchased. He took the time to explain the pros and cons and even went into detail about the issue. Very helpful, would highly recommend this shop!
The work was promptly and professionally completed. All my trips to Carrsmith have been uneventful,, no surprises, all work and costs fully explained in detail before repairs began. Gainesvilles go to shop for Mercedes service, whether you need an oil change or a complete rebuild.
The worst inspection ever. Terrible customer service. No return call. Missed obvious problems. Didnt even check tire pressure. Never looked at transmission fluid. Way overpriced!!!!
Always trustworthy to get your car fixed correctly the first time.
Quick with appointment turn around and professional! I was able to get my car serviced on both Monday and Thursday of the same week. They replaced my taillight, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and realigned my wheels. My car feels and sounds great!
High quality and speedy repair! I broke down on the way to work and had the car towed to them and I was relieved how thorough they were and how reasonable their repairs cost. Will use again!
Very helpful provided information accurately. Shows tremendous amount of patience during my inquiry . I would recommend them highly for service and repairs
Carrsmith takes care of clients. I was very impressed from the time I booked my appointment online until I checked out with my car on time. If you want a quality customer service experience give this shop a try.
Way overprice and way underdeliver, Carrsmith
It was my first time bringing a vehicle to Carrsmith and it couldnt have been better. I was very impressed with how thorough and detail-oriented they were, especially in keeping me well informed as to what they were doing with my vehicle every step of the way via text, email, and phone. The customer service and repair work was superb!
Carrsmith was a pleasure to work with, they kept me fully informed throughout the diagnostic process. Since service, my car has ran perfectly.
Ive been bringing my vehicles to Carrsmith for 15 years, and have been working with Ray directly for that entire time. Ive always had excellent experiences here, and would highly recommend this shop. 3 different vehicles Ive owned have been reliably serviced by Carrsmith. In my experience with Carrsmith, the owner always takes his time asking detailed questions regarding the vehicles status, and usually repeats questions for the sake of clarity and thoroughness. This has been the norm with me and everyone I have recommended to this place. Also highly recommend Carrsmith for pre-purchase inspections of used vehicles youre considering buying - ive saved myself the hassle of buying a lemon more than once.
Mini Coopers can be a pill. This team knows their way around the mechanics and have good knowledge of the engine. I like the interactive updates of the work flow, that way I don’t feel the need to call and check in to see how things are going.
Everyone at Carrsmith provided fantastic service for my car. They were not only professional, but made me feel welcomed. Their attention to detail was impressive. I recommend them highly!
So far what’s to tell have not driving only two a few miles to school.AAA recommended we use this shop$125 Diagnostic fee - Even if we did the repair (unfair even at Lexus, Toyota etc. never charged if repair was done) and this was done by a Snap-On tester.Recommended repairs was way excessive but they where not upset and did not sabotage car unlike others. A big compliment to say even Lexus messed the car up. Five stars if your reading this.Coil cost was outrageous I could have bought six for the price of one and went for dinner with the change.Oil change $ 47.00 first and hopefully the last timeScared to find out synthetic oil change price. To be considered after all/can’t be in business if not for the college kids. / I’m the Dad that paid for the car. My Auto repair shop Did Business the old way.
These guys are extremely tech savvy and very professional. Carssmith got me out of a jam on a Saturday and fixed my vehicle promptly. They even showed me the bad parts and explained how it caused the problem. So I give Carrsmith a two thumbs up .
The person who answered the phone has no customer service what so ever. Just by that alone I rather not even try to give them business.
Awsome!!
Great customer service and they completed all work required with no problem. Full report provided and lot of knowledge and friendly people.
While traveling my vehicle became disabled, luckily I was towed to Carrsmith Auto repair in Gainesville Florida. The incident happened in the afternoon on a Friday. I thought for sure I would have to leave the vehicle and Rent-A-Car to make my final destination. To my surprise they diagnosed my vehicle, ordered the parts and repaired my vehicle within three hours which I thought would be impossible. They replaced the alternator and serpentine belt can and a pulley and had me on my way. They were professional and courteous.I wish that they had a repair facility in Pensacola.
Took my car there running fine, it would start and crank with no problems just a little lag........ after getting a 2500 quote and advised them that I would like to think about the repairs. I went to pick the car up and all of a sudden it doesn’t start and they now have to do another diagnostic to tell me what the problem is when I drove the car there running!!!!! THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF JANKY MECHANICS!! IF I TELL THEM I WANT THEM TO FIX THE CAR, I WOULDNT BE HERE NOW!! PARTS QUOTE FROM THEM WAS 32$ Went to advance and saw it for 12$ Another part was 179$ from them advance had it for 75$. AAA RECOMMENDS USING THEM!!! BE CAREFUL!!!
I wouldn’t come here unless you wanna get charged for a service that you didn’t even ask for or agree to.
They are Excellent, on Memorial day I was traveling in my 2009 BMW 3 series from Orlando to Atlanta. When I stopped near Lake City rest area the yellow color engine oil light showed up with + 1 quart, I called the dealer they said service was closed on holiday, I called Carrsmith Ray answered and listened the issue and advised me the what to do next and suggested the proper engine oil grade to put. On a holiday he spent nearly 20 mins for me to help me out. He is knowledgeable and honest, I will see them for my next services and recommend to others as well. Thank you Ray.
A great place to go if you need your car repaired. People here are very friendly, and helpful. They always explain my invoice to me and what was done to my car in a language I can understand.
They are very good with car repairs. I would recommend them to anyone whos car is having problems. Honestly, I dont know anything about cars, but first of all their customer service is really good. They are really helpful and make everything easy to understand. They always kept my Mazda running in good condition. You can trust them.
Took my VW Jetta in for two issues - transmission fluid change and electrical issue with passenger door. Had my car for over a week. Kept giving me the runaround. Charged me over $300 and neither issue was resolved. Took it to another mechanic who checked my transmission fluid. It was black. Said fluid was never changed. Took a sample back to Carssmith. Gave me all sorts of excuses. Finally agreed to filter my fluid instead of replacing it. Decided not to trust them a second time.
Courteous and knowledgeable assistance from all I contacted !!
Carrsmith is the best mechanic Ive ever had. They routinely service my 2010 MINI Cooper and 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. What impresses me most are the detailed reports they send me about my cars with photos, links to videos, descriptions of repairs, and suggestions of other repairs. This comes via email and text updates. Also, Ive never had my car stay there more than 5 days. Use them!
Very knowledgeable, very professional and thorough. Prices are what one would expect. I definitely have a reliable place to take my 77 Vette the next time I need work done.
Guy who answered the phone was rude, called to make an apt and he sharply said they had no availability, didnt ask what I needed or offer to book another day. He snapped at me for just calling. No worries buddy, I can take my money elsewhere. 👌
Carrsmith was my car’s saving grace! They were able to quickly and accurately diagnose a common issue with my Volkswagen that even the dealer was clueless on. They provide the highest quality of service with their digital inspections that show any service that might be due on my visit. I highly recommend then for any service to your vehicle.
Great service and honest workers. They were to fix a part instead of having to replace it (which is what other shops told me I had to do). The repair ended up costing 15% of what the repair would have been had the fully replaced the part. The car runs perfectly. I would definitely take it to Carrsmith again if I am in town.
I have switched to Carrsmith with some hesitation after seeing their not-so great yelp reviews, but they were cheaper than my usual place and super close to my house. I dont regret it at all! They are very polite, great at explaining everything to you that is going on with the car, they always finish on time, and are not trying to convince you you need some expensive repair (in fact they told me not to worry about something that my previous mechanic was trying to charge me $350 for!) I am happy I switched and would recommend them to anybody in Gainesville!
Over priced and try to up sale on things, saying my water pump was leaking I found no fluid near the pump but the reservoir, so would have been 45 bucks but would have charged me 400
They replaced a part and the new part was faulty. They ordered a replacement with no charges. They stand up for their work.
Carrsmith did a superb job getting my 1967 mustang running well again. Plus they installed a new retro radio that matches the old look--it is like having a new car. Great job and very professional service.
These are some of the nicest people you will find when dealing with your car. They are patient and know what they are doing. I wouldnt go to any other place. They are quick and their rates are fairly priced. Excellent service. Support Carrsmith!
I do not recommend this place for anyone. Up until a few months ago I had my car fixed there twice, with over $1500 worth of repairs. Last week I went in to get my breaks checked, as they did a $900 break job for me in December. I was immediately met by speculation about the noise I was hearing. Ray took a ride with me and talked the ENTIRE time, instead of listening to my breaks. He then said there was no sound, so we had to drive again for him to hear it. He stated the sound wasnt anything. I told him that the squeaking he was hearing has been consistent for over 3 weeks and therefore it needed to be checked out, especially since my breaks had never squeaked prior to them working on them in Dec. He refused to check out my car (except for checking my break fluid,). I thanked him and asked for a no charge receipt, which Ive gotten at tons of car places. This is when Ray went from kind of dismissive towards me to angry. He huffed, stormed inside and made me fill out an invoice form (which I was fine with) but rambled about how he has never printed a no charge receipt for anyone and this was just ridiculous. I happily filled out the form and then he stomped out to look at my car. Only then WITHOUT ASKING ME, did he drive my car into the shop to bring it up and take off the wheels. Mind you, I have now been at Carrsmith for over an hour and had called ahead about my breaks needing to be checked, but 0 actual work has been done to check out my car. Another hour passes and Ray takes me out to look at my breaks (and explains a disc break to me like I am a literal child) and says that he found nothing that would cause squeaking except for the metal shield behind my rotor was a little bent. He bent it back right in front of me, no big deal. But, he said this would not cause squeaking. The next part of our interaction is why I am writing this review. I do not want ANYONE, woman, man or anyone to have to go through the bullying that Ray then subjected me to. When we got back inside to the front desk, Ray printed out my receipt and there was a charge for the inspection. I kindly reminded him that I have the insurance for their break job and only brought my car in to get checked because I had my breaks done at Carrsmith in the first place. He began yelling at me saying You dont think my work is worth anything? You think you shouldnt pay? Then he took his certification off the wall and began rambling about how good at his job he is and that I was questioning his ethics (I was literally just asking to not be charged since I had used 2 hours of my time getting them to check a problem that was covered by their break job and insurance). He continued on yelling at me and being dismissive. I was appalled. Took my receipt and left. Never have I experienced such unprofessional behavior. This is my first google review Ive ever written, and its because I never want another person to have to feel dismissed and belittled because they go in for a simple break check.
Service was so courteous, thorough, and very fair. They did a complete analysis on the entire car. I will definitely use them again and would recommend them.
I brought my car in for a simple oil change and they did a complete additional checkup. Rather than charge for a misalignment they pointed out my car was subject to a recall that would likely take care of it. I was pleased and impressed. I have been coming here since I arrived in Gainesville, and always used them that will continue. I have never been disappointed.
Be careful when you visit this shop. I took my car to have a look a the headlights as one headlight kept flickering - I was told that both headlights need to be replaced for a cost of $500 - I did not go for the repair and did my own investigation - only two new bulbs and connectors were need as connectors at the back of the bulbs were burnt and loose. At another time I had a coupon from their famous Loyalty Reward program - price of service jumps up as soon as a coupon is presented. Tire rotation price suddenly changed from $65 to $108 as soon as $45 coupon was presented to them (BTW Coupons have to be presented before the estimate so that they can adjust the price!!!).
Took a little while to learn what was going on with my vehicle, but after I was informed they repaired it very quickly and I haven’t had any issues with it since.
Honest - Trustworthy - Understanding / Highly recommend Carrsmith for auto repairs! All shops should be like this! And they sell used cars... Richard
We were on our way back to Knoxville from Orlando when one of the car door latches brok . They worked us in and got it done incredibly fast.
A fine institution. We recently had to have my wife’s alternator and rear wheel sensors fixed. Their front man, Kurt, was kind and knowledgeable. He clearly and concisely explained how the issues we were having with the car were related to each repair. He was also able to communicate via text message- making interacting with him and the business a hundred times easier than calling and speaking over phone. Based on some nonrandom data points, they seem to be on the more expensive side of a car repair. But hopefully they pass some of those profits through to the employees, because they have great ones. Also, remember to ask for the AAA discount.
Gave a pretty thorough diagnostic, but overcharges to perform repairs. The staff were polite and friendly, but I cant recommend the shop based on the quotes I received.
Dropped off my car and was told 125 - 250 to diagnosis they called 3 days later and said they couldnt figure it out it would be 450 for diagnosis took it to another shop and they figure d it out for 108 dollors dont take your car there
I took my very old truck to Carrsmith on a recommendation. They fixed the problem my previous mechanic failed to identify and fix. That was several years ago. They are knowledgeable and fair and Im completely satisfied. They have promised to keep my truck running past 300,000 miles and I like that. And Im confident they will.
Ive been using carrsmith for over two years now, and the guys there have never let me down. These guys are honest professionals who also have great customer service. Top quality place, and the place to go if you want to leave knowing your car was serviced properly.
We have been customers of Carrsmith since years ago and they have given us good services. I appreciate their honesty and there were times when a certain work is unneccesary, they will let me know. I had just spoken with the owner, Mr Ray Carr and he has been very helpful in giving me information I needed about purchasing a used car. I would recommend anyone who needs a good place with good mechanics to go to Carrsmith in Gainesville. Thank you, Mr Ray, Charles and the staff of Carrsmith for your good services.
King Ray was straightforward and helpful. Prince Charles — with whom I was mainly in contact — was honest, and detailed in defining problem and corrective action. My experience with Carrsmith was top rate.
I LOVE Carrsmith. Ive had terrible experiences in auto shop with my Mini Cooper, and I know how to call the shots given that my father is a mechanic. Ive been through it all: drained freon, wrong parts, etc etc. These guys treated me so well and had no issues picking me up or taking home. They became a lot more like friends than random people servicing my car. The techs would call me several weeks after my repairs to check in on my car and see how things were. They truly care and thats what makes Carrsmith awesome. I would definitely recommend if you like prompt, personable service.
Excellent service, good communication regarding the issues with my vehicle. Especially appreciate managers willingness to waive charges for repair of a part accidentally broken by the mechanic. A key bolt snapped off, had to be repaired. Would recommend CarrSmith to any German car owner.
Excellent, honest auto service... known them > 20 years!TURNS OUT THIS AUTO REPAIR SHOP COST ME $1,000’s of dollars along with great anxiety concerning my Auto.I was stunned by their treatment of me and my car...All I can say at this point is BEWARE ⚠️⚠️⚠️
Ray is very friendly, honest, and caring. Although I didnt get any service done, he was very helpful at explaining and giving me the options. Thank you Ray!
Was offered water when I first arrived. They did nothing that I didnt want them to do. The work was completed for pickup the next day. Lisa is courteous and checks around to see whats best for you. Work was far more reasonably priced than anywhere else I called in the area. I will definitely be using them again if there is a problem. Car is running great!
This is my second time using Carrsmith, and they always go above and beyond, helping me to understand what is going on with my car and helping me to pinpoint what needs to be fixed right now. I highly recommend their auto repair shop if you are looking.
Ive never been to a more dedicated car shop. These guys always put the utmost concern into doing the best work they can. I brought my car in just to get the starter replaced and they went above and beyond. They looked over recent service records and found issues in the workmanship of the previous shops. They proceeded to take pictures of the issues with the work and emailed them to me so that I would be able to talk to the previous shop and have the mistakes fixed. If you need your car fixed in Gainesville, there is no reason to go anywhere else!
**FULL DISCLOSURE** I havent actually gone into this shop, but I called with a question about the cost of an induction service, and instead of quoting a price and trying to get my business, the man on the phone asked me what the problem is and talked me through several solutions that dont involve going into any autoshop, thus saving me money. You wont get this kind of care at just any auto repair shop! I will definitely bring my car there in the future.
Years ago the transmission in my Ranger started going out. The mechanic I had at the time couldnt figure it out even after multiple visits and test drives and started treating me like an auto hypochondriac. I had the Ranger for years and knew it wasnt running right. Carrsmith listened to me, figured out what was wrong, and replaced my transmission. Ive been going to them ever since. They now take good care of my F150 and my parents vehicles as well. Its nice to walk into a shop where they are glad to have your business and take your concerns seriously.
I have moved here from Clearwater and when I had the first car trouble I have ever had with my car I didnt know where to turn. I got on the internet and it says on their website that they reply 24/7. I sent them an email last even at 7:00pm but as of 7:45 this morning got no response besides a form email saying thank you and they would be back to me shortly. I called when they opened about 7:40am and spoke with Wade. He informed me that he does not do business that way (by the internet) I ask in my email how much and how long to replace an alternator in my car. He informed me he had many estiments he needed to get out and he gives them to the ones that have dropped their cars off to him first. My car needs to be towed in and I cant blindly have my car towed to a place where I have no idea on how long it will take or how much it will cost. I am single and must have a car. He absolutely offered no help to me and was not very nice.
Carrsmith always does a great job with my car. They are extremely professional and high-quality, and I would definitely recommend them!
The people at the front desk were all very nice and kept me entertained as I waited for my vehicle. However, the courteous vehicle inspection was helpful, but also made me feel as if I were being lied to as an attempt to make me pay for more services I did not need. The oil change you guys did, I feel was good and the notes about my lower ball joints going bad were helpful. I may come and see you guys for that. On the down side, you guys told me my front brakes were really bad and needed to be changed ASAP. When I changed the brakes myself, they were actually not as bad as I was told, although, the rotors needed replacement for being too thin. Also, I was told my battery was bad and not holding a charge. I took my battery to OReillys where I bought the battery from. They tested the battery in front of me and told me it was good and so was my alternator and starter. So, I am sure the brakes issue was just something you guys thought needed to be changed ASAP, in which they were
The owner was so nice ! I’ll definitely come back again.
They handled my problem quickly and easily. Kurt was excellent with explaining the steps they took and what was wrong. Very knowledgeable.
Always friendly and fair with me, thatswhy I get all my VW service here.
Got my alignment here... Excellent work.. Fast and friendly service
I am glad I found them !!!found my problem right away 😀 and very nice !! I had my Boxster at the dealship in Ocala they are useless and very expensive and rude.Debbie Beaulieu
The Customer Service and Technical Work They Provideis Very Professional . Ask forThe Owner Ray Carr and EnjoyTheir Unique Hospitality .
All the employees at the shop were very knowledgeable, The didgital inspection is a new way of informing customers about problems that your vehicle has. By using a iPad to take didgital photos and videos that has sound, you can rest easy by not wondering if your being taken advantage of by being charged for services and repairs that you didnt really need. Being able to personally read the technicians notes and see pictures of what the technician is actually talking about gives you true peace of of mind.. I highly recommend Carrsmith Auto Repair.
I have been a CarrSmith customer for over 20 years, but no more. In the last few years the quality of their work and the reliability of the repair estimates has decreased. Like other reviews have noted, they always seem to find unexpected problems that need repair. And also as mentioned by others, they add a great markup to any parts that are needed.Any service at all takes MUCH longer than expected, even when an appointment is made before hand. The service writer promises to call and give updates, but you never hear from them.Unfortunately, this once stellar shop is, in my opinion, no longer reliable.
Really rude got my car towed here after my car broke down over the weekend. I was in an accident a week prior. Well my car was overheating and left me stranded. I do have bungee cords on my Hood holding it down while driving but my Hood still has the post to hold my Hood up while working on it. That isnt broke at all. After my car sat there all weekend they had the nerve to call and say sorry we dont work on cars with bungee cords and it needs to be off the property by 6pm. Wow. Great customer service you guys have I made sure they were AAA approved so the Job could be done right. There was no reason to treat a paying customer like that when that is a familys only car. Its embarrassing enough that I have bungees on the car and to treat someone like that when its no keeping you from working on it Ill make sure I put the word out on how rude this place is.
Great service by highly train professionals at affordable price!
Excellent service
If you want good quality work in a timely manner DONT GO HERE!!!
I had my car towed to Carrsmith after work when I noticed my car shuddering strongly right after ignition, like it was misfiring. The car also had a great decrease in power. The first thing that was odd was that when Carrsmith called the next day, they told me AAA cited the problem as an issue with the transmission. First of all, there is no way it was a transmission problem based on the symptoms and the fact that I was able to drive it before having it towed. Also, I never told AAA anything about a transmission issue. Could just be an assumption made by AAA, but hopefully was not an attempt by Carrsmith at convincing me I needed a costly transmission repair (if so then sorry guys, Im not THAT ignorant). Anyway, beware of anyone trying to pull a fast one on you. Then they told me that the wires leading to my EDIS (electronic distributorless ignition system) module were chewed through and the wires would need to be soldered. Okay, that would explain the misfire, so I approved the repair. They charged over $450 on the repair with the parts costing only $75, meaning their labor charges are INSANE. Anyway, I get the car back and they say on the receipt that they perform a 4 mile test drive after the repair to make sure the problem is resolved. I take the car on the road and immediately notice THE PROBLEM IS OBVIOUSLY NOT FIXED AT ALL. There is no way they did a test drive. But they have my money already and the problem is not fixed. To make a long story short, when I got home I found that a wire to one of my fuel injectors was cut through. Not the problem they cited at all but was able to fix it at home... for nothing. Bottom line = I wasted 2 weeks and $450 on these guys. Go to a shop that actually fixes the problem the first time and save yourself the hassle. Honestly, the dealership would have been cheaper!
Did good work and communicated very well keeping me on top of what was happening. The excellent communication cannot be underestimated in how good of a process the car repair was.
I would like to take the time to give credit where credit is due. I had been having issues with my red 323I BMW, I kept spending money because I was told that this was wrong and that was wrong, I had become a ATM. I finally took my car to Carrsmith, I had use their services over 20 years ago with my Volvo and I always had a pleasant experience. This last experience I had with them was in May of this year, Tom and the rest of the crew really went above and beyond to find the problem and took care of it, I had to call them this past week because I was concerned about losing water. I took it in they found the problem and stood behind the warranty with no cost to me. I was totally excited because it went so smooth. I love Tom and the they rest of Carrsmiths Crew. I would recommend them at 300%. The Customer service, the repairs is one of a kind, I have 2 Beamers, they have found a new Doctor. KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT SERVICE!!!!
I have had nothing but awesome service at Carrsmith. When you dont know very much about the ins-and-outs of auto repair, it can be intimidating to choose a mechanic and trust them to be honest and fair when you are clueless! Ray and his team are nothing short of stellar. After limping 4,000 miles cross-country in our 94 Volvo, we were lucky to find these guys right in Gainesville. They have always been so prompt and polite and speak in a language that is accessible and understandable to the common layperson. They are always super honest about cost and necessity when it comes to those of us that are on a student budget - very appreciated! (European car maintenance aint cheap, folks, but this is standard fare everywhere.)I have come by multiple times to get various concerns checked out, and these guys always drop everything to take a thoughtful look and help you out right away (still, make an appointment if you can, they are worth it).We will miss you when we move!
Dont come here. You will not be treated with respect. I simply stopped by with my volvo today to ask for some air in my front tire AND to possibly inquire about future repairs. Old man comes up & says sorry to keep you waiting. I asked about air and he said: Uhmmm most of the hoses are in the garage. Then he leaves and some young kid comes out. Again I asked for some air. Uhmmmm everyone is busy right now, but if you go up to JCs they can give you some. Seriously? Thats why I will keep going to Richards Volvo. He is THE BEST in town. He will drop everything that he is doing to help a customer. This was actually my trial & error for here. If you cant even put air in a tire and be a true and genuine garage, then what are you doing? SHADY AND RUDE STAY AWAY.
Best possible place to take your car in Gainesville. Great staff and you dont have to worry that your being taken advantage of!! Highly recommend!
I was driving from Daytona Beach to Gainesville, to visit my brother in Shands Hospital. My car overheated right outside of town on 441. Carrsmith was the closest mechanic to where I broke down. Was able to make it their shop, and they gave me a ride to the hospital while they diagnosed the problem. A few hours later they call to tell me my radiator had cracked and needed to be replaced. Seemed legit, as the radiator was probably old and was steaming badly. Then I was quoted an egregious price of $927 to replace the radiator and thermostat on my 2003 Honda Civic. This is where I should have looked elsewhere; however, I had the misfortune of being from out of town, and had more important things to worry about (my brother was in the hospital because he shot himself in the face). I told them I dont even have that much money, and they were quick to offer an in-house financing credit card application. I was able to borrow money from a friend, and reluctantly told them to do the work. I checked that I wanted my old parts back on the paperwork, they were never returned to me. I should have stuck up for myself more, but I didnt have the energy. I was just grateful to get my car up and running, so I wasnt stuck in Gainesville and could go back to work. They were nice about the whole thing, and they DID stay open an extra hour on Saturday, so I didnt have to wait until Monday to get my car back, but its the least they could do after raping me on the price.
What really distiguishes Carrsmith from other repair shops that do great work is what they give you when you check out: a detailed, quite readable description of what they did and also what they recommend for future visits.
Carrsmith was easy to work with and flexible on how to cost effectively repair my sons vehicle. I would recommend them.
Carrsmith changed my oil and it went just fine, much less cost that other alternatives
It pains me to write this review as I had some good experiences with Carrsmith. My last experience wasnt the best. I was given an original estimate of $800 that eventually turned out to be $1600. My car was left with them for an extended period of time and when I received my car I noticed the driver seat was not functioning correctly and was pushed all the way back with the adjustment settings not working to put it back. Additionally, I went to use the gym early that morning with my car and noticed a swarm of ants when I opened the car door. It looks like they made a nest in the car while it was left in their lot. It was a repair nightmare, I took the car to BMW of Gainesville and they noticed that the car mileage (odometer) was inconsistently recorded (one at high odometer reading and another at a lower reading).... I have videos of the ants and documents showing that the odometer was incorrectly recorded if anyone is interested in reviewing them. I am very disappointed with Carrsmith and would not recommend their service for any fellow Gator.
Very professional mechanics, wish they had better infrastructure to service, good bet anyway!
Great service. I have taken my car there every time since I moved to Gainesville.
Carrsmith was easily one of the best experiences Ive ever had with an auto repair shop. I brought my Ford Fusion in for them to take a look at because I felt like I had been lied to at a chain repair shop about what was really wrong with my car. I spoke with Zac, who was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. Once the inspection was complete, he described exactly what was wrong in detail and how much more critical some repairs were than others, which was something that the chain store did not do since they tried to press on me any repairs they could claim were needed. Zac checked with each one of their 6 different parts vendors to guarantee that I was getting the lowest price possible for my repairs. He then described the different repairs I could have done in order of necessity (more necessary to less) and what the different repairs would cost a la carte. I ended up saving over $1,000 by coming here instead and saved several hours too. I will definitely be returning the next time I need a repair.
Friendly and efficient. Completed repair ahead of schedule and below estimated cost
SLOW.Came in Saturday due to my belts squeaking, and made an appointment to get my car looked at on Tuesday. I left my car with them for 3 days just to get a new belt tensioner in. Ive never had to leave my car for that long for ANY problems anywhere else. Even paying took forever.MY PROBLEM WASNT FIXED.Service is friendly, but they have terrible communication. I never got a call for updates or even when it was done.
I went to this place because it is close to where I live. Here is my experience with them. My engine light was on, they replaced a vacuum switch valve that cost me a couple of hundreds bucks (part+labor). The light went back on again the first time I drove it after I took my car back. So I went back to Carrsmith trying to find out why. Same engine code was read as last time. After 2 days of diagnosis, they told me the EGR valve needed to be replaced and it was hard for them to find the valve so they needed more time to ask around. I googled the EGR valve for my car and found two places from which I can order the valve in 10 seconds. Not to mentioned that the online price is only a fraction of what they charge (~$50 compared to $185). Their price for services seems to be more expensive compared to other mechanics.I started to feel that what they said sound really sketchy, so I did some more search on a car forum about this engine code. Guess what, professional mechanics recommend the first thing to check is the EGR valve. I have no idea why they didnt find out about this EGR valve problem in the first place. I wasnt even convinced that the vacuum switch valve needed to be replaced at all because the replacement obviously didnt stop the code from showing up.I have the same experience with some of the other reviewers. When they say they will call, they rarely do. I have to call them in order to get an update. When I told them that I needed my car back by the end of the day, the car was dismantled and not ready when I was there.I am not going back to this place again.

I see lots of positive reviews for these guys, heres mine. My daughter called triple a when her car broke down and they towed her to carrsmith. I have a farm in south florida with lots of vehicles, that means i have lots of mechanics. Based on what my 18 year old college student daughter said i knew she needed a new starter. I called Napa and they quoted me $160.00. My wife asked Carrsmith for estimate, they said it would be $900.00 to fix the car and maybe more if they found other things wrong. I searched the internet, found another shop, had the car towed there, total bill with tow was $350.00.I seem to remember a song in the 80s about true colors, or shall i say that you can put a dress on a pig but, its still a pig. Get the message?
I have been a loyal customer of Carrsmith since half a year ago when they figured out the problem with my nissans brake cylinder, which even the dealer couldnt. It turned out my brake cylinder was under warranty and Carrsmith didnt even ask for money for the diagnosis before they send me to the dealer to claim a replacement under the warranty. For that, I felt that I owed them some and decided to be a loyal customer to them (I joined their customer club right away). It is also why I am taking quite some time writing this review, in hope that they could see it.My Kias window was broken last Thursday. There was something wrong with the online appointment system and it didnt register my appointment on Friday but out of my loyalty to Carrsmith, I waited over weekend for the next available time slot and I even went out of my way to help them figure out what went wrong with their appointment system. After all, I was planning to have my cars serviced by them in future and it would be very convenient for me if the online appointment worked. So they looked at my Kia on Tuesday and came back with a diagnosis and a quota. Apparently, my driver-side power windows needs a new regulator assembly and the part is going to cost me about $380. I didnt know what regulator assembly was but I trusted Carrsmith so I agreed to the price. After hanging up, I googled the part out of curiosity but it turns out there are a lot of cheap parts on sale ($80 a piece). Given that my Kia is a very old car, I was wondering if I should just go with a cheap part. So I called Carrsmith, spoke my mind and asked if they could find me a cheap part. But Jeff (my service advisor) told me that they only use Kia OEM part or for the very least famous brands like Dorman, and $380 is a fair price for quality part. I sensed impatience and reluctance in his voice, like he is in a hurry to hang up. So I hinted that maybe I should just take the car back, buy the cheap part and then have it installed. This is when Jeff informed me of the $100 check-out fee for their diagnosis work.I told him that I need to think about it and will call him back. Then I called a Kia dealer and was told that a Kia OEM regulator assembly is priced at $280 after tax. I called Jeff again and this time, he sounded upset and informed me that the $100 gap is their profit. Then I told him that I am not happy about the situation and I am gonna quit even if it costs me $100 to do so. I can find you a Dorman one, he said, and it is going to be cheaper. How much?. $324. Let me think about it.Considering I did have great experiences with them and they became willing to help (finally!), I decided to go ahead with the $324 part. But I didnt appreciate that it took me 3 phone calls and quite some pushing for them to start to help me. The reluctance and the dodgy attitude left me in disbelief that this was the car shop I have been holding close to my heart.I picked up my car today and Jeff was all smiles when I swiped my credit card. I wanted to tell him that I am a little disappointed with his services but they were in a hurry to close the shop. So here I am, writing this long review. I hate to say that I am a loyal customer no more and Carrsmith is starting to become just another repair shop for me. But it is the truth and I wish they could see why.All in all, Carrsmith is not a bad shop and they get the job done. I am disappointed not because they couldnt find me cheap part but for their reluctance and impatience to help. Higher expectation means greater disappointment.
