This shop has moved and is under new management and the new team is the BEST. Their staff is very professional and extremely helpful in fixing my car. Mike and Bill did an amazing job and my car works better than ever. Thank you so much to Bill, Mike, and the rest of the staff! Y’all saved the day and did it with great prices. Will not be taking my vehicle anywhere else but HERE!
They are a very honest and open shop, free diagnosis, they will order the parts and install them, you can also bring your own parts and have them install them, they are trust worthy, pricing however can get sticky when it comes to labor cost but at the end of the day you pay for what you get and its quality work done professionally. Great staff too!
AAMCO came highly recommended by Firestone Complete Auto Care across the street, where I have NEVER has a single problem. While AAMCO might be a great place for more common or less subtle transmission issues, my experience with Tom at AAMCO was less than positive. I came in and gave Tom a very thorough description of my problem and he assured me that he would get to the bottom of my jerky transmission. His guys drove it around and the next day he told me that he knew exactly what my problem was. A few days later, after me calling a couple of times with his assurance that his guys were working on it, he let me come in to pick it up, as they had done an electronic reset. He told me that his guys drove it around and the problem was completely gone. Hooray.Brought it back a few days later after driving it...because the problem was still there. He had it for a couple more days and said that the only recommendation he had was paying another $229 for a transmission fluid flush- because my 2016 Honda Odyssey with 70K miles was due for it. Well, Honda recommends a flush at 90K- so thats not too truthful.Tom, while being a nice guy, was extremely too much- way over the top with ensuring me that he knew what was going on and that I was at the best automotive shop around and that he would ensure he fixed my problem. He did not stand by his word, which was frustrating. This was exactly the experience that frustrates my wife about automotive shops. Not coming back here again, nor am I recommending AAMCO in Durham.
3/17/21-New owners, moved into space on corner of 54/55. My 05 Caravan 4 was shifting rough. No codes on scan. So I took it to Aamco Durham. No charge to check out. Stupid me. Trans fluid down a quart. Tech filled it & tested car- No Charge! Will I be back ? YES ! Call Vijay; very smart, sensible, young man.
All I can say is they are attentive to my needs answered all my questions before any work was performed. Took care of everything I need and now back on the road with no problems
Bill was very informative and help me fully understand what was needed. Very reliable & awesome quality work in good timing. Thank you
Great place!!!Quick, fairs prices, trustworthy
Under new management, i had rented a car for 3 days, they finished it in 5 hours!!! Great service. Even did a test drive 2x... My favorite garage now!
Car wouldn’t crank and had to be towed. They fixed a sensor to get it cranking, and also inquired about my jerky, creaking steering wheel. Fixed steering wheel successfully. Good professional service!
Quick service, very professional staff, and fair prices.
Recently had both right front and right rear window regulars with motors replaced due to electric windows not working. Service was prompt and courteous and now I can enjoy both windows working.
I went in to have 2 u joints installed in a brand new driveline. I had all new parts and they were out and ready to install. Oh thats at least an hour and a half job and thatll cost $150. For the record, they did not consult the book. I wonder if they knew I have done this before at least 50 times at a previous job, if they still won have lied to me. I really tried to not say they lied, but they did. They completely understood what the situation was and how long it would take. At most, it is a 30 min job. 20 without the smoke break. Ill buy the press and do it myself for the same price. Im not saying the next shop down the road wont rip you off, but these guys will. I think these guys have actually inspired me to make an unedited video showing how long it takes and tag this shop with their quote. If they are willing to try this for a few bucks, wait until you need a $2000 transmission.
Great customer service. Tom was totally excellent! If ever needed I would go back!
Bill and the gentleman that installed my transmission are the best.
They was about to close and they took me in with open arms and done a great job thanks so much for your service .
No complaints whatsoever. Aamco had been has been working on our vehicles for years, and they are always honest so I cant say nothing bad at all.
Still stuck with problems that I came there with plus more problems because my car is a “piece of junk” said the mechanic. I guess not worth fixing but will have their hands held out for 640+ dollars plus another 290+ dollars in damages they caused.emailed owner, he never returned email. These folks really don’t care. It’s a shame!update: more knowledgeable about my car, nothing was ever wrong with my car, the only thing that I needed was spark plugs, hopefully the scam artist never open again! Hopefully they’ll learn honest will get you far in life, surely not with a closed business 😂
Excellent repair work and great customer service.
Charles is a stand up guy. A hard worker. Old school like me. You need a transmission, call and ask for CharlesAs for the review I read on here where the guy said he was a tech and left a bad review. Grow up ! Do your own work. Leave others alone to do their work. Charles spends All his time helping Customers. Not pretend technicians.
I called around noon & Tom was able to get me in at 3. I got there a few minutes early and he had me out in an hour. He interacted with me several times, several of the workers said hi & I was impressed as he was very busy but helpful & cordial on the phone. I will be back.
VERY DISAPPOINTED CUSTOMER!!!! I have an EXTENDED WARRANTY on my car so I took my car to AAMCO 5/9/19(Thursday) due to my transmission having issues with shifting and, also, a couple other issues including car leaking coolant and overheating. I was given a call the next day asking me to give a list of issues related to my car in order of importance. Not sure why I had to list issues in order of importance. But anyway, I was in the vicinity of AAMCO so I stopped by. I was given confirmation at this time that transmission needed to be replaced. Was told that other issues would need to be diagnosed and that would take place on Monday 5/12/19. Was told that it would be necessary to complete the diagnostic test before contacting warranty company to get approval for repairs. Called Monday and was told they hadnt completed the diagnosis on the other issues because they have a mechanic who deals with cooling systems and he didnt come in but said my car would be top priority next day. Called back Tuesday 5/13, same story. He said maybe he needed to go ruffle some feathers in the back. I advised I had been in a rental for almost a week(over $300 for rental) and probably best to at least call and get approval for transmission work. He agreed. Called me back later and said adjuster would need to come out to do inspection before approval given. Adjuster came next day and approved repairs and said transmission should arrive 2-3 bus days. Was told repairs will take 2 days after transmission arrives. Called back today Monday 5/19/19 and was advised transmission arrived. I asked him what were the results of the diagnostic test regarding the other repairs. YOU GUESSED RIGHT. Was told diagnostic test hadnt been completed. WOW!!! Was told the the mechanic who works on cooling systems quit. Rental car almost $600 now. I will submit additional review whenever I get my car back.
I had my car towed here after it broke down in Durham. My engine had blown Tom was very helpful every step of the way from Corresponding with my warranty ppl to staying in contact with me to let me know every detail. Even though they were not able to repair my car due to the warranty company s refusal to pay on a technicality. Still very good service.
Transmission TOM understood my situation and helped look at fix 2012 Nissan Maxima. Diagnosis $99 went towards any repairs. So it was FREE!
I took my car to get an oil change and spark plugs put in. I had my own oil, filter, and plugs. When I asked how much it would be I was told their master mechanics price every car individually. This sounded odd, but I needed it done that day and I thought how much can a service cost? I expected if theyre more expensive than the $25 someone else would charge, I may end up paying $40-$50 max. About an hour or so later I got a call to let me know the labor is $100 which is completely absurd pricing for a 15 minute job. Ill never take my car to AAMCO again for anything.
My experience at Aamco RTP has been excellent. I had my transmission rebuilt, and am very satisfied with my customer service experience. Since having my transmission rebuilt I have trusted their services enough to have my car checked out a second time for a minor problem. I am pleased that the problem was handled fairly and honestly. I would recommend Aamco RTP to a friend and I plan to continue to service my car there in the future.
I have always brought my truck to this shop ever since college and have had great service done. Fred is a good friend of mine who works there and has always taken well care of me and put my mind at ease when an issue occurs with my trucks. I recommend this shop to anyone and everyone. They truly can fix anything
I recently had my car serviced at this location and am extremely pleased with how everything was handled. I had a transmission leak that was identified and fixed, but then persisted. That could have been because of an initial misdiagnosis, but most likely not. Even though it most likely wasnt on them, they identified the source of the persistent leak and replaced the parts with no charge for labor. Ive had this exact scenario play out at a different mechanic and it was handled differently (and by differently I mean they charged me twice). Will definitely come back to these guys. Pleasure to do business with them.
Ive been taking my cars to Charles shop for years, and couldnt be more happy with the service, the quality of the work, the cost of the work, everything. Ive never had a better experience than with these experts caring for my cars.
Well let start off by saying that i did not know that this place operated like this. I had my Range Rover towed there because it had a hose break which caused it to smoke and run hot. They told me to leave it and they would get to it in the A.M. because they were backed up,upon returning the next day i was told the price i wasn’t mad about that price it’s an expensive SUV and i know that. I had the money in my pocket but then they give me this paper telling me that i need to get a lesser expensive car wow like a Honda or a Toyota really the nerve of some people just because I’m a young black man with a Range Rover i think this place needs a serious Evaluation because that was money that they lost and i will not refer anyone i know there and I’m talking to a lawyer about this racist actions Thanks for Nothing 👎👎👎👎👎and give me my star back too.
I’m an automotive technician and called about a question for a certain transmission. Just to shed some light. Would have taken less than 5 minutes to get an answer but instead they incisted on me going there to get a diagnosis... I explained I’m a tech and don’t need a diagnosis I know that’s wrong just have a question about the solenoid pack... Well the conversation got slow after that. Not very good customer service or tech help at all. I would have been a returning client for servicing and all but now I will not go, nor recommend this place to anyone. And to think, you could have gotten a good review.
The service was good but slow, the appointment was so stretched, they told me two days to finish but took them a week. Then it appeared that they didn’t start working on my car till 4 days after I dropped it off. Which cost me $200 extra for a car rental
Took my 2002 ford wagon there with a couple questions. They kept it a couple days and it was like new when I got it back. The prices were great, service was excellent and everyone I met was friendly.I have sent others there and will send more
My car was hard shifting and another repair shop told me I needed a new transmission. AAMCO diagnosed it as not transmission failure, but a bad drivetrain. They fixed it, saving me $3000, and the car drives like new.
We had our transmission replaced in my sons Honda. Quick, efficent, honest service. Will definitely use them again. Very knowledgable mechanics about all car problems. You can count on fair competitive prices and honest service.
The guys were great and Tommy explained to me everything I needed to know about maintaining my car.
Went in there to get a simple task done, guy at the front desk was trying to up sale me from the get go. I guess I was an inconvenience to whatever he was doing b/c he was rude from the start. If you are female I would take a guy. Dont get up sold. I just needed a ball joint packed with grease on my new control arm. Looked at me like I was a moron & said we can put the car up & run diagnostics. Just wanted more money. First & last time going there.
Great location and friendly knowledgeable staff. I have taken my cars here over the years.
I have a 2007 Pontiac G6 that pretty much fell apart all at one time! The check engine light came on, the oil light came on, my brakes were squeeking, the front end was out of line...you name it and it needed to be repaired. When these guys were done I felt like I was driving a brand new car! It has been wonderful and I appreciate all of the hardwork that Aamco RTP put into my car.
Somebody at this shop took my lifetime warranty K&N airfilter and replaced it with a gas guzzling engine suffocator, STICK TO TRANSMISSIONS of which yall are decent at.
The first time I went to this AAMCO, the cable that controls the release for gas tank and trunk had just snapped. I was extremely worried that I wouldnt be able to go to get gas. My tank was probably low at the time.I called around and this was the first shop that could get me in. Its a transmission shop but they said they knew what they were doing. It cost something like $100 for them to tell me that the cable that I knew had snapped had in fact snapped and that it would be a little less than $300 for them to fix it.They said I could get credit for the money spent on the diagnosis if they fixed it.I called around for other quotes. They were in the same ballpark. A little less than 300 dollars. One mechanic suggested that if I could just use the trunk remote unlock button on my key fob I could get to the trunk. In the trunk is a cable. If I pull that cable I can open the gas tank shield switch thingy and get gas.Perfect.I decide to forgo paying $300.Its a bit over a year later at this point. I decide to buy a bike.I buy a bike rack.I leave the bike rack in my trunk for a while and then I finally decide to put it on my car.In my excitement I lock the keys in the trunk.Oops.In their infinite wisdom the engineers at Honda had thought that anyone who bought a 2007 Civic EX coupe would likely be privy to valuables that they might need to hide from valets. They also decided that it was imperative that they make the trunk a safe area for those valuables. They did not think that the glove box might need to be locked, but I digress...There are two main ways to access the trunk of a 2007 Honda civic therefore: the cable (broken, remember?) and the release button on the remote (trunk).I call Tom at AAMCO back and tell him the story and ask for a current quote. I had a quote for $284 from another shop at this point but I remember Tom saying something about credit for the obvious diagnosis he charged me for and his quote from the year before had been in that range so whatever.Tom doesnt remember me. I remind him. He says he can have me in the next Monday (a week). I say that wont work because of my need for gas and he magically has time Wednesday, but he cant give me a quote before then because he has to pull my records out of storage or something.Wonderful.Wednesday I convince my roommate to follow me to drop off my car.At the shop Tom tells me the job will be $400 something, but, hell give me a $50 credit for the diagnosis a year earlier. His price is $70 over my other quote. Part of this no doubt lies in parts cost. He tells me that the part he needs cost $60. I have seen it online for $30.I decide to leave the car anyway because I had a ride situation worked out and my time is already valuable enough not to waste on its own.An hour later I get a call from Tom complaining that his tech cant get into the trunk.Again, this was the entire reason I dropped the car off in the first place.I suggest some remedies but Tom wasnt having any of it. He told me it would cost $200 extra on top of the insane amount he had already quoted.I told him if his shop wasnt up to it then I could take my business to the lower priced competitor. When I grabbed my keys he tried to sell me the cable he bought for cost.I almost did take it to the other shop.Instead my friend and were able to pop the trunk with a broom handle and flashlight in less than an hour.Google wont allow lower than one star and maybe Tom and his crew are good with transmissions, so I guess they can have it, but I wouldnt recommend this shop for anything else.
Great at transmission work! Highly recommended.
Excellent honest service, transmission went out on the road, they told me it was just a linkage that needed to be replaced!..good work!!
My experience with aamco has always been matchless; customer service, prices and knowledge of my car problems.....top notch!
Absolutely terrible experience. Take your car anywhere else, here your garenteed to get ripped off. I brought in my 2004 Acura TSX with a transmission problem. He told me the diagnostic would be 99$ but all credit would go towards the labor. Ok no problem there. Then about 3 days later I get a call that they will have to remove the transmission to do a full diagnostic, which requires a 500$ deposit before I even get an estimate, which again will be credited towards labor...thats annoying but understanding. I gave him the deposit. Then he calls me back 3 days later saying the clutch needs to be replaced, tells me the job will cost 1300$ all together. I agree. Then he calls me 3 days later again, now my car has been in their shop for over a week for a clutch replacement. This time he tells me that my total cost is now 1900$, 500$ over his estimate, he tried to tell me this was an 11h job and it was actually more but he is cutting me a break, and Im the only one who has ever complained. Now Im screwed cuz I have to pay or else I dont have a car to go to work. Will be contacting my lawyer, dont make my mistake and read their fake reviews they write themselves.
Good car fixing.
Feels like family helping you out. Good experience.
Great place for your transmission
Great customer service
This is another great Auto Repair place
