Our Granddaughter is a student at UMD and this year brought her car to school. Since its more of a Southern car we wanted someone to look it over and prepare it for Duluth winters. They were basically given a blank check to make any adjustments or upgrades they thought were necessary. To our surprise they had NO recommendations for improvements. All was fine with the car and ready for the winter. They fully briefed me on what they found including the fact the tires were about 50% wear. I opened the door to the checkbook again and told them we were happy to replace the tires now if they thought it was necessary. They declined saying it wasnt necessary and stated if our granddaughter had any problems driving with them as they are, they could change them out quickly without a problem.We are Minnesota natives but have lived on the East Coast for the last 25 years. This is NOT how business is done out here. It was so very refreshing to have honest and fair people to deal with. I can not recommend them highly enough. On top of that they were extremely gracious and friendly on the phone. If you need any kind of auto service this is the company to deal with. We will definitely be bringing our granddaughters car back for its regular service. It will be in good hands.

Gary and Steve gave amazing customer service. I had a couple cylinders that needed to be replaced in my car and without an appointment, even with how busy they were, I was able to get my car checked within a week. They gave me the best deals for repairs and called with updates. I definitely recommend this place if you need any work done to your vehicle!

Steve and Gary are great down to earth guys who help out in everyway, are very friendly, and never pressure you. They do a great job of making sure things are in your price range and never want to screw you over on it. There is a reason they are always backed up 2 weeks because their service cannot be matched. It is worth the wait.

The guys here were extremely friendly, professional, and helpful when I was traveling to the North Shore from Minneapolis and my car suddenly started making a terrible noise. Very fast and very responsive. Work done well. The prices kept rising. Not only in the amount of repairs needed but the actual price of each repair. However, at the end of the day the final cost was around 15% lower than they had quoted me. Nice people.

This shop helped my daughter out and was really easy to work with. They diagnosed/repaired a wiring harness issue quickly, found a screw in a tire and repaired that and checked the vehicle over for a less than $160 and all of it was done in less than 24 hours. They also took a CC# over the phone and my daughter said they were really nice to work with. My daughter will be telling her friends about this shop for sure!5 stars isnt enough!

The shop was very efficient at getting my car in and repairing it so I could get it back quickly. Staff was very friendly and prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend anyone to bring your vehicles here!

I have used them for multiple vehicle repairs and can assure you I never once felt uncomfortable with a single thing they did. Finding an auto shop that you can truely trust is a tough thing. They truly care about the customer and want to make sure you are as updated as possible about the status of your vehicle. Service was performed quickly and efficiently despite the fact my car was towed in unexpectedly overnight. Like many people during the Minnesota summer, we took a trip up north. We were staying further up the coast and were in Duluth for the day, when my car started to make one of the worst noises a car owner can hear.. metal on metal.We stopped at 4th street because it was close by just to see if they could look at it 2 hours before they closed on a Friday. Steve said they were booked up for the day and closed on the weekend but after helping me try and find another place it seemed I was out luck till he went and quick asked one of the shop guys if they had time to quick take a look to see if it was something small before they closed.Luckily they did, and it was just the break plate running against the rotor and for a very reasonable price they got me back on my way during my vacation.Needless to say, the price was reasonable and way under what some other mechanics would have charged to take the wheel off and look at it, and the fact that he didn’t even have to help me the way he did.Would definitely take it back to 4th street if I’m in the Duluth area again.Thanks!!

Heads replaced with new ones a could years back. Paid a lot of money for it on the 99 Rodeo. Heads are blown again for some odd reason and their work is not guaranteed beyond a year for an expensive job like that. Considering everything else in the engine is new as well, there would have been no reason for it to happen again. I honestly feel it should be a job that is guaranteed for at least 30k and it hasnt even been 10k.... This SUV has been parked for so long due to not wanting to pay the price to redo the heads AGAIN.

Car battery went dead at Amsoil. After calling a couple places I could tell Gary was trustworthy. I made the 2 mile walk to his shop to get the battery and was ready to walk or Uber back, but Gary instead gave me a ride and we switched out the battery. He had a whole stable of work to do, but still took the time to give me a ride. Unbeatable.

Gary has taken care of a couple of our personal vehicles. Our business trucks are too large to be serviced at 4th St. Auto. Even then, Gary has taken time to help diagnose different issues, though he didnt stand to gain anything from it, other than to help as much as he could. Gary is good about explaining options to us. This is the place to go for all of your repairs. Gary and his crew are very reliable and trustworthy. I was a college student in Duluth with a 2002 Mazda Protege that had every problem possible and Gary would always get my car in for repairs and was honest and thoughtful in his diagnostics. He backed up all his service. He goes above and beyond and one time a part was installed that turned out to be faulty, and I had already moved out of state but Gary honored the warranty and worked with another service station to replace the part. I had my Jeep towed to 4th St. Auto to get it looked at. This was an intermittent issue and hard to evaluate. Gary and his crew worked hard resolving the issue instead of just quickly installing a not needed part. They are a quality shop and I will bring my vehicles their without question.

Fantastic service. I dropped my car off right away in the morning and It was done by the time I was out of work. Seemed fair priced, although I didnt have time to shop around but will definitely use them the next time my car has issues (which wont be long)

I had a flat tire one evening and needed to have it fixed next morning. This shop was the closest from home. I was impressed by their fast and inexpensive service and how they treat customers. I will definetely use this shop again.

Wonderful experience. Our car was leaking coolant and so they did a pressure test on the system, called us immediately afterword. Found out there was a problem with the coolant holding tank. They fixed it for us right away. We had them watch it overnight and everything was fine. If I have car problems again I will definitely be going back there.Their waiting room was also very comfortable and clean compared to some auto shops Ive been in.

You will not find a better person than Gary L. Hes extremely knowledgable, fair and honest. We have been taking our vehicles to his shop for the past couple of years and I cant see going anywhere else as long as 4th Street Auto is open for business. If its routine maintenance, engine failure or a mystery problem, Gary and his team will get to the bottom of it without reaching for the bottom of your pocketbook. Just be sure to call and schedule your appointment a couple weeks in advance - when youre that good, the calendar is packed.

Expensive but they do good work

As a poor college student, these guys really took care of me and saved me money when I needed it. They truly care and were honest about when it wasnt worth it to fix my car and it was better off being salvaged.

Amazingly friendly people work here and kept my tight schedule. Still, an $80 oil change is kind of a big ouch.
