Been here since January and I have loved it! The apartments are clean, furniture is in good shape, and the gym downstairs is super handy. The staff have been friendly and its a great place to live. The only downside is that it is overpriced for the area. The views from the top floors are lovely.

100% would not recommend, you paying all that money for a box and they make up fees when you move out. The person who you supposed to contact does not get back to you. The elevator always broke, so you have to take the stairs all the way up. They never know nothing in the office and the head people you can’t even contact. You better off staying on regent.

Completely horrible customer service and assistance. Prior to ending my time living with them I inquired about whether I would be charged a re-letting fee due to the fact that I would be ending my lease before my renewal started. I spoke with the manager and two other workers at the location who confirmed that since I was ending my lease before my renewal began, so long as I secured another renter they would waive the reletting fee. This was confirmed by multiple people at multiple points.Following my move out, a month later I was sent a bill for reletting. I contacted and was told it was an error and it would be fixed soon. I was then emailed again and told Id be sent to collections if the fee wasnt paid. I reached out again and they responded, we made a mistake, you are going to be charged it. So their admitted mistake on the corporate side not communicating that we had discussed and I agreed to move out a month early so that they could rent to a new tenant earlier meant nothing. I spoke with management again and they stated I could either pay or theyll send it to collections.Absolutely abhorrent behavior from management to make agreements and then not uphold them once corporate gets wind that they could make extra money by just saying, oh sorry they made a mistake.Avoid University Plaza in DeKalb, IL at all costs. Capstone acquired while I was a resident and while initially, when Christina was managing it, it was fantastic and would have gotten a 5 star review. It has since become a terrible experience while living there (closing amenities constantly, elevators never working) and now the final straw is them charging a reletting fee which their own managers stated I wouldnt be charged so long as I moved out early. The other reviews are right, they find ways to makeup fees.

Had my roommate switched a week before move in and he was bringing cats EVEN THOUGH I had under preferences that I did not want to live with cats due to being allergic to them. I called the front desk and they told me I would need a doctors note to get out of the room even though it was their mess up. Picked a B4 apartment because I wanted more space however the apartment looks identical to a B1. There is no extra space at all and when I confronted management about it they said there was nothing they could do and that I shouldnt have gone off of the picture they had on their website. And when I moved in the shower had mold in it. Overall the apartment is nice because it is close to NIU however the management here is terrible.

I have toured UP many times and I love it here! My only concern is the price honestly, but for a fully furnished apartment I understand the prices. I love all of the events they do for all, even non residents. They are absolutely wonderful and if you rent here I am sure it will be a great experience!

I have been here since the end of January and I have enjoyed my time so far. The apartment is nice but the walls are thin so you can hear other people at some times. There are nice of amenities that are great too.

The staff in the Leasing Office are very nice and helpful. The amenities like the business center are always kept clean. The price is a little steep but furniture is included so it’s worth it in my opinion.

Apartments are a SCAM it’s expensive for a literal box you better off staying in the apartments near by because you will spend a lot of money with them and they make up petty fees when you move out and the person you have to email will never get back to you the coward only takes emails no phone calls and the staff in the office is always clueless 1/10 will not recommend.

I lived at UP for 2 years and I love it. I love the studies room for late night studying and business room for printing especially since my major requires me to print a load of notes. My favorite part is the community I’ve meet here. Always friendly. When covid hit, they have created a safe environment with the residents which I think is what makes them stand out from other complexes I heard from my friends. UP is a really a place to live at and happy I renewed my lease this year!

UP bribes their residents with gift cards to fill out good reviews, so time to be honest. There are many other apartments that are not only closer to campus, but way better than UP. People tend to think this place is the safest place to live, but thats not true. Truth: the pool is cold and has floating insects. They will find a way to charge you with some sort of fee. A few of my friends had mold in their apartment. You will pay for a parking pass, yet still have no where to park. 1 star for the occasional free food and the awesome security man. UP is so disorganized idk how Christina still works there.

This is the only place that I would live at in Dekalb. The buildings are very secure and I love that they cover utilities! Lots of my friends live here and its super close to campus.

Lived here for four years. Location is great for those who dont own a vehicle. Maintenance team is superb and very much friendly. Amenities are great, but those are just extras.Wish UP didnt raise their rent every year. Seems like theyll offer a better price for newcomers rather than those whove been renewing for so long. Also wish the staff was better at handling certain situations, especially when it didnt involve giving special privileges for their friends.

This is my first year living at UP and I love it here! The office staff are so kind and always ready to help you with any questions you have and will always have an answer. They have so many amenities such as a gym, tanning bed, computer lab, study rooms, game room, pool, all available to the residents! Also they always do fun things for us like grocery bingo, waffle Wednesday or coffee on Tuesdays. It’s so cool to live in a place and actually really enjoy living there. Something I really like about University Plaza is the type of security they use. You have to have a key to get into specific parts of the building and only students can live there!

The Leasing Office is very helpful and responsive. Work requests are always done in a timely manner.

I love living here! Its SAFE. In dekalb that was #1 for me! I also love how the apartments come furnished so move in was super easy! All I had to bring was a TV and clothes and sheets for my bed! I also love all the events that they have here. Its a great way to meet the other residents and other students without having to go anywhere.

I have lived at University Plaza for over two years now and I have had nothing but a positive experience. The staff is extremely welcoming and always hosts events for the residents to participate in. With COVID happening they have also been taking plenty of precautions and keeping the place clean and safe as well!

This is my first experience living on my own and it has been nothing but a great experience! I have lived here for a year and a half now and have had no problems. The staff are really friendly and helpful and if you do have an issue maintenance comes and fixes it almost immediately. It is also amazing having a gym and FREE printing center in the same building as you. I highly recommend living here to anyone who wants a cheap but efficient place to stay.

Second year living at UP and already renewed my lease for next year. The staff have always been kind and quick to resolve any issue. The prices may be a bit on the higher side, but the utilities, pool, 24/7 gym, study area, small distance away from campus, and more... make it worth it! With the apartment being already furnished, it’s fairly easy to move in and out. Highly recommend to students

The price is little steep but it’s worth it for what you get, since it comes furnished, which was my biggest choice in moving there. They have cool amenities like a swimming pool and game room also. My only complaint is that my unit looks different than those shown online and in person. It’s also good to live here if you need a roommate but don’t have one in mind, since they can partner you. A great first place to live after living in the dorms. They also have fun giveaways and free food.

University Plaza is a really nice place to live with a modern atmosphere. All of the workers are incredibly nice and helpful, and they always host community events where they give away free food and other things. My only complaint is washing machines are out of order a lot and the a/c and heat in the apartments are difficult to keep at a normal temperature.

Ive been here for three years now and I feel as if I can safely review based on my personal experience of being here. Lets start with the pros of U.P.* Excellent Maintenance: The maintenance team here is incredible, if you ever have any issues whatsoever, youll usually get a same-day response and theyll resolve the issue same-day, or take care of setting up external appointments to get your problems solved.* Community Events: Prior to COVID, there were always community events ongoing here to get to meet the others in the building, and weekly occurrences for breakfast or pizza nights. I would assume this will resume once COVID is a thing of the past.* Friendly Staff: The office staff and management are incredibly helpful and friendly when it comes to taking care of any of your concerns.* Safety: The building is locked with access to the complex and individual apartments keyed with electronic locks.* Proximity: U.P. is about a 5-15 minute walk from NIU buildings, so you have really easy access to campus from your apartment. The Husky Bus line also serves a few stops fairly close by if you dont bring a car which can get you to most of DeKalbs shopping facilities.* All Included Expense: Everything is included in your monthly rent, so no need to juggle around multiple payments for electric, utilities, etc.So, why the three star rating? Well, there are some cons to living here as well, and while some are only minor nuisances at best, they get to be more of an issue when you remember youre living here while pursing a degree, which means 2-6 years depending on your degree path.* Rent Raises: Every year around October, the building will be filled with Renewal Season notices explaining how you can claim a better rate compared to your current rate. This is a complete fabrication. Every year my rent has gone up an additional $20 - $40 per month (Along with the slowly increasing costs of parking at U.P. each year, which is a once-a-year $150+ fee), which especially in the time of COVID, is a great concern, and why I chose to cut my tenure here although I still have another 1-2 years on my Ph.D.* Noise Issues: I dont know if its just my bad luck or what, but you would think after submitting multiple (And I mean multiple) noise complaints on a neighbor last year they wouldnt move in worse people this year, nope. To make it worse, noise complaints are nothing more than a door knock from one of the staff, nothing is done to keep it from happening again.* Student Housing: Directly off of the last point, U.P. is specifically supposed to be for NIU / Kishwaukee College students only (So I was told when I was initially considering my option here three years ago), but the current noisy neighbors are not students and have a loud child that screams during most hours of the day (I teach a class at NIU and had one of my students comment on the noise, just so you are aware of how easily noise can travel in this building).* Fire Alarms: Get ready to be woken up at least 4 times a semester by someone setting off the buildings fire alarm at 2am, and because of how the building is structured, any alarm in any of the buildings three sections will trigger the alarm in all three buildings.As a short term living option if youre pursing your last two years on a Bachelors, Id give a favorable recommendation. But for someone like me who went the M.S. -> Ph.D route, Id say go over all of your options first.

This is a great apartment complex with a lot to offer. It is a good size space and the environment of the complex always makes me feel safe. It is close to the classes and stores I need to go throughout the semester. I would not live anywhere else on campus besides university plaza.

I moved in this fall, and I absolutely love it! I feel very safe in this apartment complex. The amenities are really great and I love not having to pay extra for them. I also really love being so close to campus, where I can just walk to my classes and not waste gas!

This is a good apartment building to live at. Everything is modern and well-maintained. Many amenities. I live in an A4 unit and it is comfortable. Staff is always very friendly. Only downside is the price, but it is one of the nicer apartments in DeKalb.

I have been a resident at University Plaza for almost two years now, and my experience has been great. The facilities are second to none as far as student housing is concerned, and the staff members are extremely helpful, professional, and personable. With study rooms and a computer lab that is open 24/7, there is always a quiet, comfortable space available for studying. Also, UP is only a short walk from campus, which makes getting to class easy. Moreover, the staff at UP are helpful and friendly. UP is extremely well-run, and you can tell that the staff members work hard to foster a sense of community for their residents. As far as student housing is concerned here in DeKalb, UP is by-far the best option.

I chose to stay at UP because it not only looked nice but all utilities are included in rent and apartments came furnished, not to mention all the amenities offered, and in my 3rd and final year here I’m still not disappointed! I don’t understand the people complaining about costs, I’m paying one of the higher apartment rates here and it’s actually still cheaper than any of the dorms at NIU. I appreciate that UP is almost like a hotel in that access to your apartment requires you to go inside the building to get to your apartment and to get in the building and your apartment you have to use an electronic key fob, so no one can pick locks and break in. Staff is very friendly and maintenance takes care of issues promptly. There’s also social events offered every now and then and free waffles/coffee weekly. Highly recommend staying here!

Really enjoy living here. The staff are friendly, and helpful. They regularly schedule events to get the residents together. I live in a 1 bedroom and it is a good sized area for what you pay for. All the benefits of living at UP make the experience well worth it.

As a college student I can say living here has made my college experience even better. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I specifically want to thank Rachelle for helping with my room switch situation first semester. She made sure I was comfortable and settled in after the situation was resolved. Rooms are very spacious, the gym is never packed. Staff is very nice and work orders are completed usually nice day. World recommend if you are looking for a place to live while attending NIU.

The staff at University plaza are so unprofessional. They don’t have enough parking sticker for the actual residents. If you want a parking pass you have to go to the office everyday or park across the street.It unlawful to house more residents then actual park. Certain people in the office favor different kinds of Culture more then other. They are not responsive to your complaint. They treat the parents better the residents. They have a lot of small hidden fees. The office is very unwelcoming. I would not recommend anyone stay here. While it is a very nice building next to campus you are giving you are giving up your happiness and money to stay here

I moved in fall 2019 and honestly a huge step up from where I lived before! Everything is in great condition plus they have a lot to offer. From a pool to free waffle wednesdays, they give back to the residents. The staff is also really helpful with any questions you have.

University Plaza offers many different luxuries as well as necessities to be successful and enjoy your college experience. I love living at UP. It is a perfect college living experience.I did a random roommate match, and I love my roommate. UP provides many actives for students to meet others and just have a fun time. I highly recommend UP to everyone.

Living at University Plaza this year has made my experience as an NIU student a lot better this year. I have not had any problems this year so far within my apartment, everything has been smooth. The staff are friendly and if there is a problem they are happy to help you at any time. Events and contests are held weekly and monthIy, like waffle Wednesdays or to go coffee Tuesdays. Occasionally food is catered in for purchase, or there are raffles / contests. These activities really add to the experience of living here, and give the apartment complex a positive and happy vibe. I enjoy having the luxury of using a workout room in the lobby, being able to bring friends to hang out in the game room or pool downstairs. Overall, I am happy with my choice to live here this year and highly recommend living here.

Moved in back in June of 2018, and it’s been just an amazing and easy place to live. With online bill paying, the 24 hour fitness center, and Free waffles on Wednesday, it’s been a great place to stay in my last years of college. Having all utilities and internet included make it that much better. One downside is that the washers and dryers are a bit of a crapshoot on what washes and dries clothes, sometimes they work, other times they don’t.

University Plaza is a very clean and safe place to live! They offer many perks like a pool, a gym, an arcade, etc. I really enjoy living here and the customer service is spot on. I’ve had a couple issues and the worker Austin always helps resolve my problems. 10 out of 10, would live here again.

Excellent place to live, the staff are very friendly and helpful, in particular are the maintenance staff, Mike and Mary, both are very kind and hardworking staff who have helped me out with any sort of questions i had about cleaning my apartment or arrived within the hour when i had a maintenance request. Truly dedicated staff this place is lucky to have them.

My experience at University Plaza so far has been absolutely wonderful. I have no complaints. The staff offers some pretty cool events, the pool is always the perfect temperature, and there is always a quiet place to study in the Plaza’s many lounges. The best place to live for any student.

Compared to other off campus apartments University Plaza is in my opinion the best place to live here in DeKalb. It is safe, clean, and very close to campus. For the price, the living space is smaller than where you would get at other apartments in the area. Though, this is made up by the down stairs which includes a gym, many study rooms, a game room, and a swimming pool. Wifi, cable, and utilities are also factored into the cost. I believe that University Plaza is the only one that offers all of these amenities. Things to consider is that the parking pass is a yearly cost of about $150 and that the wall are very thin. Overall, probably the best place for an NIU student to live. 5/5

I’m a frequent guest at University Plaza, my sister lives there and I love to visit her! I like that I feel comfortable when I come to visit and the office staff is extremely welcoming and nice. My sister really enjoys it there and I would 100% recommend this complex.

I unfortunately regret moving here. I chose this place for the pros being close to campus, modern apartments, and building security. However, being that this is college housing, the prices are unbelievable. Working 2 jobs with any free time outside of attending school makes this place too much. If I would have done better research, I would’ve found apartments around the area just as suitable for half the price. There are many ridiculous fees here as well. Not renewing my lease.

My experience at UP has been phenomenal. Having lived for free as an RA for two years i was hesitant to make the change to an apartment. The staff is very friendly and even took the time to learn my name. The location is right off campus and the facilities are modern. I havent had any issues during my time at UP and would definitely recommend considering UP. All things considered the price is fairly reasonable considering everything is included and the building is secure. I look forward to finishing out my last semester in UP.

Christina is the most racist person I’ ever met in my life. She does not care for people of color at all. Capstone need to take a real look into her as a person. She is Ignorant on how to treat people of color. I will not be staying at university plaza anymore it is not a very in pleasant place to live.The bright side is the rest of the office crew they are amazing. My daughter goes to NIU and lives at University Plaza. She loves living there with all of the amenities that come with the apartment. She has repeatedly said that it is the best value around and also very close to the school.

The employees are so helpful and nice to me! I can always count on them to help me find an apartment that fits my needs! All my roommates have been great thanks to the managers matching with what I put on my application!

I have been a resident at University Plaza for two years now. I love to take advantage of the study rooms in the lobby when I have a lot of homework to do. I also have taken advantage of the pool many times. I would recommend University Plaza to any NIU student who is seeking off campus living and also looking for a community environment.

Finishing up my 3rd year living here and for the most part its been a great and positive experience. Christina (manager) and her staff are very polite and are always willing to help you out with any questions. Their maintenance staff is also great and very friendly. I typically just submit a request online and it gets taken care of by the next day.Be respectful and courteous of the staff, especially the lady who cleans, shes great!!Dont let the slightly higher rent scare you away. The amenities offered are very convenient and will make up for it. Its also cheaper than dorms. The location of UP is great, and probably the best distance to most of NIUs building. Overall, a great place to live.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The people in the leasing office have NO idea what they are doing. I was trying to get out of my lease for the summer, the leasing people told me they would try to fine someone and then said they could not find anyone; I started looking and found someone in 2 days. I was charged for the wrong amount of the reletting fee twice. After a couple days they fixed it. I look at my account because I got a notification that I owed almost $600 for another reletting fee. Obviously, adults should be working at the office, not college students. The price to live here is outrageous, plus with all the hidden fees that they do not tell you up front. I will not be returning to live at University Plaza and will recommend people not to live here. The people that work in the leasing office act like the lobby is their personal playground. Countless times have they been downstairs drinking, and running around while people are trying to do their homework, hang out, etc. The laundry facilities are always broken and the pool is NEVER cleaned.

There are cool activities like BINGO, waffle wednesdays and take-away tuesdays that making living at University Plaza an unique and fun experience.

My son has lived in University Plaza for about 2 years now. The amenities University Plaza are wonderful and makes a lot of thing accessible for him from free printing, computer lab to the fitness center and pool. The rates are very affordable for a college student and includes everything from Internet, cable to electric so he doesnt incur any surprise costs. His apartment is well maintained and comes fully furnished with quality furniture. The staff in the office have always been great to deal with with and has a true sense of caring about their residents. The buildings are well-maintained and a safe environment. My son loves living there and I would recommend University Plaza to any parent who is looking to move their college student out on their own into a safe, well-maintained, caring place.
