This apartment was a nice place to live. However, do NOT expect your deposit back. We saw a review before moving in that they wanted the place super clean, but it’s truly ludicrous what they expect. They refused to fully return our deposit mostly because the tub was dirty. I happened to take a video of the apartment when we left, and it should upload with this post so you can make your own decision.

Im going on my sixth year at Shadow Lakes, and Ive lived in both a condo and (currently) a one bedroom apartment. The units are older, but you know that going in because they let you view the units before you commit (the leasing office itself is the model for the condo). Utility bills can run high as the units are all electric, and in summer its hard to keep the upstairs of the condo cool (an likewise, warm in the winter), but in my apartment, my bills are reasonable (always under $100 a month). For those that have issues with the train - I can only wonder if they completely ignored the train tracks when they drove to the complex. Obviously youre going to hear horns and it will be at all hours, but my bedroom is within a stones throw of the tracks and I dont even notice it anymore, nor does it wake me up at night.I dont understand those who are complaining about the age of the units or the train tracks - you view the unit before you commit, and its not like those things are hidden before you sign a lease.Maintenance is always quick, and they have even done extra for me without being asked if they notice it when they go in. They never come unannounced, always give at least 24hrs notice.Never had any problems with the leasing staff. They are always friendly and understanding if I have any issues.Quiet units as well - when I lived in the condo, my neighbors had a piano and I could only hear it if I was downstairs with no TV or radio on, and even then it was just barely.I plan on staying here for as long as theyll have me. Ive lived all over the city, always rented, and this place is by far my favorite.

If I could give zero star, I would. I have never in my life meet such a horrible, rude and arrogant woman like this in my life before, I forgot to ask her name, but she is the apartment manager, some fat woman, she is the only fat person in the office. (No offense to anyone) She is heartless. If u don’t know what to do with your money go and rent from them. If you do run far away from them, fly if you can because if you run they can catch you. They don’t respect different races. Thieves. Daylight robbery’s. Just like the way when you throw a ball to the wall, it bounces back to you, the same is what will happen to this fat woman in the office, call herself the apartment manager. Sad if she doesn’t suffer for it now, but maybe her kids or grandchildren will suffer her evil deeds for being rude and horrible, won’t consider her as a human being.....

This would be perfect if they allowed pets. Lovely well kept grounds and attentive management.

This apartment complex tried to raise my rent on several occasions without notice, and they would perform obnoxious inspections of my home, because they claimed I may have bugs. The last time they tried to raise my rent, I argued with them and was told people like you just dont belong here, and I was told that I should go on welfare like the rest of my brothas to pay my rent. These people are ignorant, and you should definitely look elsewhere for a place to live.

I lived at Shadow Lakes for 1 1/2 years. I had a year lease, then went month-to-month. Moved in early 2010, moved out the middle of 2011. It was great when I moved in, but then the place rapidly went downhill. And Im not the only person who thinks so. I was speaking with a neighbor who had been living there for ten years, and she told me that the complex isnt as great as it was in the past. Trashy people are slowly starting to move in. If you wind up here, make sure you lower your car insurance deductibles. In a short span of time, in just the small corner I lived in, a familys Toyota Matrix was completely destroyed by a fool who thought itd be a great idea to race his Jeep around the complex (luckily, the familys car was parked and nobody was in it when the idiot crashed into it). Someones motorcycle was stolen in the middle of the night. And to top it all off, my brand new car was keyed by the lowlife couple that moved in next to me, resulting in a couple thousand dollars in damages. Theres a train at the corner of Linworth Rd and Godown Rd that blows its horn at all hours. Its so loud that I was unable to use the master bedroom to sleep in. The townhouses seem to have been constructed as fast and as cheaply as possible. For example, the builder clearly skimped on the electrical wiring. As a result, there is no overhead lighting whatsover, so the townhouse is always dark, no matter how many lamps you turn on. The lighting issue may sound minor, but its difficult to live with. In addition, the units are all electric. The heat pumps used to warm the units dont seem to have been meant for a square footage that size. The entire townhouse, but most especially the upstairs, is extremely cold in the winter. You can turn up the heat really high, but it makes no difference. I often found myself having to put on a coat in order to go upstairs. The staff also rips you off on your security desposit. No matter how well you clean your unit, theyll come up with a bunch of bogus cleaning charges. The only good things going for this place is the large size of the townhouses, the ample parking, and the fact that theres good insulation in between the walls, so you dont hear your neighbors. Repair staff is also prompt and extremely competent, and the grounds are nicely maintained. But none of those things are enough to make up for all the bad stuff, which is why I didnt renew my lease.
