I called Starks for help on tax situation I was not familiar with. Susan seemed to know exactly what to do. I asked about cost after we discussed what I needed done and Susan quoted $200.I scheduled the appointment and brought my documents to her and was surprised to have her do my taxes while I waited. She said it would take about 20 minutes. It took about one hour to complete because she had software issues and I was then handed a bill for $325. I questioned the billing as I was quoted $200. Her explanation was a Schedule C was necessary to file and no other explanation as to why she didnt include the additional fee in the quote she gave me over the phone. As my taxes were complete I did not argue and paid the $325 for the one hour worth of work. $325 per hour seems quite high for simple taxes consisting of social security income and part time work for Instacart especially after being quoted much less. If you choose this company and are quoted over the phone I would recommend requesting an email before you go to your appointment to avoid an overcharge. Or just choose another company. It isnt worth it. And they dont seem to care or value integrity .

We met with Susan and honestly walking in and just seeing her 100$ bill carpet just showed us that we were in good hands. Susan was super friendly and made this whole scary situation seem fun and light and we walked out of the office with all our questions answered, our taxes filed, and a new place that we will come back to next year. I am the executor of an estate for my family. New to this, I needed forms for my siblings and myself, to file with our individual taxes. A north Colorado Springs tax service said that they could help me right away, so I brought them the requested paperwork. After 2 weeks, they said that they needed the original IRS form granting the estate tax ID. This seemed odd, as they had the estate tax ID on the 1099s Id provided them, and they took my word at my siblings and my SS account numbers. Well, the estate tax ID number form had been shredded / was unavailable. After quite a runaround, I drove in and picked up all my tax info from this tax service. I called BBB recommended Stark Tax Service. Chris Stark reviewed my tax papers and got to work immediately! No, I did not need the original estate tax ID form, as the correct ID number was present on 1099s, etc. Chris had this problem solved in 5 days. He took my urgency (due to dithering, time wasting previous tax service) seriously. Stark Tax Service was: Knowledgeable, fast, in constant contact, courteous and EMPATHETIC! Such genuine customer service is rare in this day and age. Yes, I would recommend Stark Tax Service to anyone.

Chris was integral in my nephew being able to be completely enrolled in the university he had already started attending. My nephew was told he needed tax documents concerning his parents by a certain day or he would be dis-enrolled. My nephew was extremely upset as he had already placed all the scholarships and grants he had received from different places as well as the financial help the school was giving him “dependent “ on his parents’ tax history. Chris is very knowledgeable about laws governing taxes. He called the school and explained the reason my nephew couldn’t supply the documents they were adamant about getting. My nephew’s parents were exempt from filing taxes due to laws governing income/type of income. Chris made the phone call to the school immediately after I called him and explained my nephew’s situation and explained the reasons why the requested documents were unavailable and the tax laws covering those reasons. The school immediately called my nephew to the office and withdrew their demand for the documents and gave my nephew everything he needed to be FULLY REGISTERED and a FULL TIME STUDENT! My nephew and I are very grateful to Chris for his efforts on my nephew’s behalf. Chris is not only extremely knowledgeable in tax law; he is also a very personable man and works for his client’s best interest. Mr. Stark is what all businesses should be like. I had a mess of taxes from another tax service and was stress and frustrated. With his wonderful sense of humor and extreme knowledge, I felt so much more relax. He took his time explaining everything to me in a way I could understand, without charging me! Chris was more worried about talking about his glory days and getting referral fees for his payroll company (that he admittedly doesn’t even use himself) than he was about helping us. While trying to pay our taxes, we had one simple question about which button to press that he definitely should have easily known the answer to. He told me that I should pay $200 a month to his partnered payroll company to get that answer. We weren’t in a position to do that so we tried to figure it out ourselves. Now we are facing issues with the IRS because we paid our taxes incorrectly.

The tax firm I had been using for several years went through some personnel changes and I found myself looking for a new company. I use a gentleman to prepare my taxes named Jeff Fry. He works for Chris, the owner, who was very knowledgeable and accurate about his services and how my taxes work. Suffice to say, his fees are pretty reasonable. The fees he charges to do your taxes is all based on the amount of work he needs to do, but I can tell you that he is cheaper than the big boys like H&R Block, T Rowe Price, or Charles Schwab.Something also worth noting is that Chris also went above & beyond to try to get the maximum refund back for me by asking for any educational, child, and/or home improvement credits I had in the year. I find that very refreshing, as there are many tax preparers out there who will forget or simply not care about those items - they just work with what you bring them only. Wonderful customer service!!!My husband and I procrastinated getting our taxes done. So the end of May we made a appointment and was asked to leave all my tax records. Although hesitant, we left them. We were told maybe we would get our taxes done by the due date, but if not Mr Stark would file an extension. That made me worry because every year we have had to pay taxes in CA for a rental and have not gotten a refund in over 5 years.Well I got a call a couple of days before TAX DAY and my taxes were done. The better news no taxes had to be paid in CA and I got a good chunk of change from the IRS. So look on other review boards This guy is HONEST and knows the business very well. Mr. Stark has been the most unprofessional tax preparer I’ve dealt with. He didn’t even complete my work correctly. When I showed up to his office it looked like a tornado went through it. There were papers everywhere and it was completely disorganized. I personally think hes living in his office. I’d stay far away from this office and go find a reputable CPA to work with. I honestly think he believes he’s better than all the people he encounters. I’ve honestly never met a more condescending and pompous person in my life. I think hes making up for his extremely “small” hands. As far as I’m concerned I’m surprised he’s even still in business last I saw his trailer was in foreclosure...I would never trust someone that can’t even manage their own finances. I’m sure Mr. Stark will claim he’s never done business with me and he has no idea who I am and has never heard of me that’s currently his MO.

I am HIGHLY impressed with the professionalism and integrity of Mr. Chris Stark. I went into his office on Saturday due to a complicated tax situation I had that stemmed from two years ago. The reason why I went in on Saturday, was because he has made provision for me to see him during the weekend so that I could get my issues addressed and resolved as soon as possible. Mr. Stark was very attentive and considerate of my needs from the very start. Although I had not given him much time to correct the amendments, he worked through the entire weekend to get my amendments corrected, sent to the IRS via priority mails and receive acknowledgement reciept from the IRS. I even learned that I will receive a substantial refund, due to the amendment. I will definitely return for my future tax requirements, as he has inherited my business from this point out. What a great experience from start to finish. Showed up for my scheduled appointment time. No lights were on in the hallway. They had a sign on the door saying they would be back at my appointment time. I waited a few minutes, then knocked on the door. I could hear people talking inside the whole time, but they all hushed when I knocked. No one answered. They may be good with taxes, but I didnt stick around to find out. Very unprofessional.

Incompetent and Unethical. I hesitate to write a review after seeing how Chris Stark trashed one of his other customers below who dared to be critical but feel that I have no choice. I had a very poor experience. He entered my social security number incorrectly on the return, missed a deadline to submit paperwork to the IRS and blamed me when I asked him to correct his mistakes. I ultimately gave up and the whole thing ended up costing me several hundred dollars more than what Chris calculated when the return was submitted the first time.I dont enjoy writing a negative review but Chris doesnt mind writing one even when hes not a customer just to damage the reputation of a competitor. He gave a one star review to my now CPA, Tax Preparation Service and Bookkeeper Sikora CPA who has, unlike Chris done an absolutely wonderful job for me and at a very reasonable price. In Chriss review of Sikora CPA, he didnt identify himself as a competitor. He purposely attempted to damage Sikoras reputation in order to make himself look better. You cant get much lower than that in business.I didnt write a review after my poor experience with Chris. Life is too short and he isnt worth my time. However, I wont stand by and watch him purposely hurt someone else.My recommendation is to stay away from Stark Tax Services. If you do consider using Stark, take a look at his office and at him. What you see is a reflection of the quality of tax preparation work you can expect.Update:Chris denies I was his customer. I wish that were true but unfortunately I was his customer. More importantly, he doesnt deny his completely unethical behavior toward his competitor. He admits giving Sikora CPA a negative1 star Google review purposely attempting to damage their reputation. Sikora CPA has been in business for many years in Old Colorado City.
