Shopping around and looking for contractors is not easy when you have so many out there that promise you the world when it comes to craftsmanship and quality of work. I was in serious need of getting my hardwood floors and stairs re-done as they had taken quite the beating over the past 13 years since they were last refinished. I called a few places and had a few estimates written up then I came across Great Hardwood Flooring and decided to give them a shot. About a week later they started the project and got the sanding done pretty quickly. The next day we met up to discuss stain colors got one picked out after they put down a few variations for me to ensure I had the right color done to my liking. I stayed at a hotel for the remaining 2 days while the rest was being finished when I came back I was absolutely stunned at how beautiful my entire place looked. I honestly dont think I couldve been any happier with the outcome and this company comes highly recommended and Ill certainly be telling my friends and neighbors about your company.

Hired these guys based on reviews & pictures to refinish almost 1200 sq ft of hardwood floors from an natural oak color to medium brown. Job was to be completed within 4 days. Everything seemed to be moving smoothly so we left the house before stain & poly was applied.After we came back home June 3rd to see the completed job. We were astound at how rushed they were to complete the job. Sloppy job.Long story, we eventually had them come back to redo the entire job so another 4 days & an additional day to fix a couple issues. Which was a huge inconvenience as during COVID, we needed to find a place to stay again. This should have not been a rush job and should have been completed the first time around. Im not the one to ever complain about anything but this wasnt anything I expected but a complete nightmare. I feel that I need to let others know what to expect. This was a huge job to complete as its pretty much most of our house.***Important: The owner did however, make it right the second time around..only after I complained to make it right & he laughed at me saying it was suppose to look like this. To complete the job necessary, he stayed onsite the entire second job. He removed all of the trim himself to make it look right, he made sure the threshold at the top of stairs was replaced, he ending up refinishing most of the areas throughout the house, he took all of the vents off & refinished outside, made sure that the staircases were completely finished, corrected all of the issues that I am mentioning below.*1) We paid an extra $200 to have the fridge moved, only to find sawdust and polyurethane puddled under the fridge and chocked around the wheels.2) We were told by Mike that trim didnt need to be removed. That they would get close enough to the trim. We had no problem wanting to remove it to begin with but trusted them. 1st job done- you could see the original oak color along all the edges throughout the house.3) There was multiple pieces stuck in the final coat -blue sandpaper from bit, white specks from the t-shirts used, hair, scratches not buffed, bubbles, corners were completely missed, bull nose on stair threads missed & had original oak color, Corners of the stair threads were missed & gouged (not sanded smoothly), gaps & holes not filled, gaps thats were filled with putty werent sanded. Lots of unfinished looking boards, where you could still see a mix between oak & the new medium brown color. Tons of swirl marks & black lines from the sander. Drips from the stain all over. Stain on carpet upstairs.4) We paid an extra $300 for brand new vents. Only for some of them not to fit correctly but main concern was they stuck the vents back in the floor. Then polyurethane over them with a roller so when we came back for the first job..they were stuck in the floor. When addressing this, the workers mentioned that they usually prop up but this was not the case.5) We had brand new kitchen cabinets installed prior to getting the floors done. (There was some issues with the flooring under the cabinets that was the main reason why we had to install first) However, they got stain on the counter tops & doors (luckily came off), the blue tape that was used, pulled off the finish on the mdf backing for island (owner paid partial to fix this), Chips on the doors of island. Mind you we had just finished getting these cabinets installed a week or two prior to them coming. Owner laughed at me and mentioned that I could of done this & floors should have been done before new cabinets. My question to you is, what if I had cabinets installed that were older. Does that mean you get to damage those too and laugh about it? That still doesnt mean that you get to damage peoples homes.6) After the second job was complete, we had to repaint the entire house almost. Stain was in rooms that didnt have wood floors, along with getting the new trim shoe molding.

Pauls team did an amazing job on our new floors. After ten years, our living room hardwood floors had been worn down and damaged in some areas due to pets, moving, and general wear and tear. Pauls guys managed the process of moving our furniture for an extra but fair fee and repaired/refinished the floors very well. The repairs are remarkable because they blend so well into the existing floor, its like there was never any damage. Paul was very helpful and easy to work with carefully explaining the entire process and finishing the work in a timely manner. I will definitely be calling him the next time I need a floor installed or refinished.

I scheduled an estimate with Mike, he came took measurements and gave me really good price and few ideas what will work better for me. Crew came in a few days and they did wonderful job. They finished job in two days and new flooring totally updated look of my place. They are really great at what the do and Im really pleased with their work.

We received three bids from different contractors to replace a ruined engineered hardwood floor from our lower-level (water heater burst). While Paul was not the lowest bid, he provided the most comprehensive bid and had the best ideas on how to blend the floor with a portion that had survived (and saved us from ripping out cabinetry in this area). After the removal, which went quickly and with little to no damage to the walls (which was amazing since they had to pry-off a large portion of the baseboards), our slab was found to still be holding much moisture. Paul set up dehumidifiers and said it may take several weeks to dry it out properly. He was right. We appreciated that he wasnt trying to push the job through so he could get the remainder of his money. He wanted the best outcome. And the outcome? Simply the best. The floor, blended into the old floor, is flawless! We have already recommended Paul and Great Flooring Services to friends and family. A very trustworthy, professional company to deal with!

My Interaction started with Paul a few weeks ago. We chatted on the phone and setup an appointment and he asked that I text my address and email. I never received any confirmation, so I had to follow-up a few times, to confirm. We were scheduled to meet at 9:30 on a Saturday. At about 9:45 I called to see what was happening, Paul said he was on his way.When he arrived at the condo he did an inspection and gave me a verbal price which I thought was a good price. He was friendly and I felt good about his experience and what he had to offer. He said hed email me the quote on Monday. On Wednesday I followed up via text. He said he was still working on it and Id have it by the end of the day. I followed up on Thursday and Friday through email and text, but hes been silent, Ive followed 4 times now with no response.I really wanted to give this company a try, but I have a bad feeling. Its been several months now since They finished (I just keep forgetting to leave a review) and we are still extremely pleased with the result.We chose to lay engineered hardwood over existing vinyl tile. That Floor still gives the authentic wood appeal. We also had Pauls Team throw in some new baseboard for us.His crew were in and out in 1 1/2 days. Overall very pleased, would use again in the future. Highly recommended.

Great Hardwood Flooring did a great job I had original hardwood floors that had been covered by carpet and other floor treatments plus an addition without hardwood floors. They came in and sanded and repaired all of the original hardwood, installed new hardwood floor the areas in the addition and stained and polyed the entire house. It looks great.

Project consisted of installing new hardwood flooring in our entire 3200 SQFT Lincoln Park home. The install of the new section went smooth but the removal of the old flooring turned out to be herder than it looked ( staples, Tiles and thick concrete ) but Pauls Team took their time and did fantastic job. These guys are great! They worked in my house on 3 days and workedtheir butts off. The greatest thing is that my floors are soabsolutely beautiful Way beyond my expectations. I had a bedroomthat already had hardwood but I didnt like the color so when I hadnew floors put in the living and dining area, I had that floorrefinished and all floors stained dark Walnut mixed with Express .(By the way, they put down three different sample stains so I couldsee what they actually would look like and then pick the one I likedbest.) The wood is beautiful and perfect. Really, they did such agood job matching wood types with the current wood, butting up againsta not exactly round corner of the marble floor in my kitchen, anddoing all the finishing work of putting doors and molding back. I wasflexible in my expectation on how long it would take, but, as I said,they surpassed by expectations. I called for the initial quote,on dustless sanding and refinishing my hardwood Floors .Paul was very responsive and Fair on pricing .He didnt negotiate at all. But attended every pre-job meeting on time, returned my phone calls, and was very professional. On the day of the job, Paul and his crew showed up 15 min late but kept to the promised timeline. The job was kept very clean and the result of transferring my hardwood floors from gold blond to black grayish color its amazing. Its now been 3.5 weeks since completion and the work is holding up very well. So far Im very happy.

They did a great job and Ive been advised it was a good price too. But 4 (more like 4.5) stars instead of 5 because I had made it clear I needed 5 planks of wood removed. When I pointed out only 4 wer removed, I was told theyd come back to remove the 5th but didnt. It was a small task, so not a big deal in the grand scheme, just preferred that detail was taken care of.

I had the pleasure of working with this company for a floor sanding job. I was surprised at how fast the job was completed, and the overall experience was pleasant. I would refer them for another flooring job in my home. I wish I had known about this company before calling other competitors. Best floor sanding job in Chicago!

We have used Paul and his team 3 times in the last year. We probably should have made it one singular project (LOL). Anyways, they have always been prompt, clean and upfront about what to expect. I am very satisfied and will definitely use Pauls services in the future.

Well, I wish I could have utilized their service. Unfortunately, they only service clients on the Northside within the Chicago city limits. Perhaps you should inform about specific areas you service (within the city) on your website. You did a great job of listing every suburb.

I agree they are the best flooring company in Chicago. We hired them to fix the stairs and some other rooms in the house with hardwood floor because it was too old and damaged but they made the floors look like brand new . Excellent job!
