Charlotte Strength is the gym to go to if you are interested in Olympic lifting. The coaches are very knowledgeable and great at explaining the movements needed to improve your technique. Even with 10+ lifters on the floor, the coach takes the time to give each person feedback. I really appreciate that as a new lifter. I also follow the Oly programming through the gym. The structure has a good flow and I can feel myself getting stronger and more confident in my lifts. I highly recommend checking them out!’
Charlotte Strength has it all: a wonderful facility, knowledgeable coaches, and a supportive community of members. I regularly attend their NoDa Fit classes and while each class is challenging, every movement is scalable to meet each and every student at their individual level.I recently completed the Barbell Basics course offered at the gym and encourage anyone who is interested in learning how to lift safely and effectively to take this course. Class size is small so that each student receives individual attention and feedback on their form. Over the course of six weeks, we worked on learning how to complete a wide variety of lifts while increasing our strength and knowledge.Of note: Charlotte Strength has done an excellent job of keeping their environment safe for members by requiring the use of masks and cleaning equipment well. It also helps that their space is huge and features open air during good weather. I highly recommend Charlotte Strength!
Coaching, equipment, atmosphere, people; all top notch.
I have been a remote client of Chris Yandles for 13 months and was an in-person client for 3.5 years prior. I have been very happy with the quality of coaching and results that I have received. Chriss methodology is conducive to real life application and is upbeat/positive. If you are looking for an effective motivator and equal level accountability then look no further! He is incredibly knowledgeable and will help you reach your goals both nutritionally and fitness related!
Such an incredible and supportive lifting community - world class coaches and an amazing facility; I feel really lucky to have a place like this to train at.
In Charlotte for the weekend and decided to drop in to Charlotte Strength for a workout. This place was great and if I lived local it would be my home gym. They were maxing our Olympic lifts, but there was plenty of room to still have an open gym as well. Anything and everything needed for a solid strength and conditioning workout is here. Highly recommend and will come back next time I’m in town!
Going to do a Powerlifting Competition at Charlotte Strength!
CLT strength has recently become my main gym, and I’m happy to call it my new home. The place is immaculate, has all the oly lifting and strength equipment you need, the coaches are knowledgeable and patient, and the members are super nice. Excited to see the progress that I hope to make here.
Heavy Metal Barbell is the singular choice for those looking to improve their weightlifting ability. Sean is an incredible coach in both personality and experience, and has built a very welcoming atmosphere for both practiced athletes and those newer to the sport. Finding a gym to train at while in Charlotte for work was a big source of anxiety, but I could not have landed in a better place! Sign up, its the right decision.
Awesome community and coaching-- I saw a tremendous amount of improvement in a 6 week period. Sean really takes his time making sure it clicks for you and you leave each session more confident in your lifts. I still have a long way to go, but I always want to come back which makes the world of a difference! Even if youre brand new, dont shy away. Really lucky we have world-class coaches in Charlotte.
Heavy Metal Barbell is the best place in Charlotte to progress towards your strength and fitness goals. The gym is a training place for clients with wide ranges of goals, from competing in Olympic-style weightlifting to improving general fitness and completing physical therapy. Sean Rigsby has the experience and proven record to help clients set goals and coach them as they develop towards those goals. Heavy Metal is home to top notch people in a supportive, team environment with top equipment and resources.
I cannot say enough good thing about Sean and Heavy Metal Barbell. He is both knowledgeable and patient and works with people of all skill levels with no hesitation. His is constantly pushing his athletes to go beyond their comfort zone and be their best day in and day out. Coaching is personalized to the needs of the athlete and he by your side the entire time making sure you are safe and pushing yourself. 10/10
Finished up the 6 week Barbell Basic course. Thoroughly impressed with Sean and the culture of his gym. Everyone there greets you with a smile and Sean is very responsive to your needs and goals. The class its self is very organized and each class builds upon the previous class. At the end of 6 weeks you will have a solid foundation on how to do the Olympic Lifts.
Heavy Metal Barbell is first class. Sean and Taylor are not only elite level lifters, they are even better people. Their knowledge and level of instruction/coaching is unmatched anywhere around. As a health care professional, I feel comfortable knowing that they have their members best interest at heart and provide the highest level training available.
I really could not ask for anything more when I work with coach Sean and coach Taylor! Excellent teachers and class dynamic each and every day. Coach Sean and coach Taylors greatest qualities outside of their experience and knowledge is their willingness to work with everyone as an individual in a class setting. They are both so easily approachable and will work to help each individual improve at their own weaknesses.
Describing an experience with working with Sean is almost impossible to put into words. From Day 1 Sean is there for you. He will ask you the set of goals that you want to achieve and work with you to get them. No matter how many hours he spends analyzing your strengths and weaknesses to figure out the best training program developed specifically for you, he will do it. Seans knowledge and not to mention his experience is the greatest assets that you can utilize. Week in and week out he is constantly going to improve on your programming as his attention to detail is astonishing. Even the smallest weakness in your form, he will turn into a strength and trust me when I say if you think you have worked out all your weakness, he still manages to find them, he is that good! In working with Sean, I can honestly say that there wasnt a lift that I did not set a personal record on. On my snatch in one month of working with him I hit a 20 pound PR compared to following a generic programming before hand and I hadnt hit a Pr in 6 months. If it is not just lifting that you are looking to develop, trust me when I say Sean is more than happy to develop your conditioning. This guy knows how to properly develop your metabolic conditioning without just throwing a bunch of random workouts your way like most places will. Whether it be lifting, conditioning, or both Sean will work on anything and everything that you want to develop as an athlete. He is more than a coach, he is a friend. He is a friend that is constantly going to be emailing you every week on things that he felt you killed during the week and those details that you never would have saw on your own that could use improvement. His programming is worth every penny and I am thankful everyday that I chose to contact him! I recommend this to anyone from the serious athlete to the ones looking to develop themselves! You will not be disappointed!
Just finished the 6 week barbell basics program with Sean. Ive done some Olympic lifting in the past but my form was trash. In a very short time Ive made drastic improvements. Beginner or advanced, I would highly recommend Heavy Metal Barbell!
I began my fitness journey a few years back with the goal of weight loss. I signed up for your typical metcon focused group fitness class. It worked, briefly. However, I never felt like I belonged there. I was never going to be fast enough or thin enough. These classes didn’t help me obtain my goal. They did however, bring me an amazing discover, Coach Tayler Harris. She introduced me to Olympic weightlifting. Through her guidance and coaching I found myself. Being strong doesn’t require a specific body type. Coach Taylor has taught me not only how to hit big lifts but also how to be comfortable in my own body and that is priceless.
Sean & Tayler are a team without equal. Since starting on their program my performance in the gym has gotten exponentially better. Ive already hit at least 4 PRs and dropped 10lbs since starting on their program in January. They are honest, attentive, personable and patient which in turn makes me confident and motivated to work hard and trust them. Thank you so much guys! You are the best!
Very happy to move across the country and find a very awesome place to weightlift! Sean and Tayler are both very knowledgeable, and the gym is filled with people who care about each other.
Some of the most knowledgeable and friendly people created this place. Highly recommended.
Cant say enough good things about this gym. I recently made the move to weightlifting as my full time training regimen and Sean and Taylor at HMBC have been a huge reason for that change. With a focus on technique, strength and safety, this is a great gym for the experienced and novice lifter alike. Each class begins with a dynamic warmup which is something I have neglected in the past. The workouts themselves are programmed well and can be tailored based on an individual lifters fitness levels. I have seen immense strength gains in a short time.Sean and Taylor bring a host of knowledge from their time as team members of MuscleDriver and it shows at all levels of training from mobility, to technique to diet.
Great programming, responsive coaches. Its been a blast working with them!
