This hidden gem is the best Indian restaurant around Charlotte that we found. Tried many Indian restaurants before but King of Spicy is way more delicious than any other. You may think it’s a bit pricey, but their portions are huge, we always get takeout for dinner and we 100% have leftovers for the bouncy next day. Chicken Tikka Masala is my fav.
The butter chicken was very very good, naan was delicious, rice was meh, dry but not a deal breaker. However, the wait to get food was long, what was the REAL problem I had with the place was the server was gone all the time. People came in waited, then left because the server were gone for so long. Besides the missing sever, the food was good.
My husband and I ordered from here and were so happy with our food! I ordered the Nepalese Curry at a level 10 and it is the spiciest dish I have ever received from a restaurant! (I like that sort of thing). My husband got a level 4 of the Dum Biryani (loved it) and level 4 Thukpa (a little spicy for his taste). So maybe just do 1 or 2 level if you want to be safe. Would recommend!
Another new (for us), Indian restaurant. Heard that Passage to India closed down. Dont know for sure but if they did, it is a bigloss. This place has similar offerings, but despite emphasizing to go light on the spices, it was still on the spicy side. I suppose that is to be expected from a place that has spicy as part of its name. Prices for the lamb korma seem to have gone up across the board. Food only available for take out, no dining in option. Woman that took our order was very friendly and spoke with us for awhile. Seriously, didnt know this place was here. Tucked way down the end of a primarily Hispanic shopping center. But, it gives us another genuine Indian food option, nearby. If you like spicy, Id recommend this place. Well likely be picking up food from here in the future.
Really good food and friendly staff! Definitely a place Ill go to again!
Hands down the tastiest Momo Ive eaten at any Nepalese restaurant in the U.S. Im Nepali so trust me when I say, the rest of their menu is great as well.Went there for lunch buffet. Only $9.99 per person with just the right amount of choices. There was enough vegetarian choices to satisfy all the vegetarians. The spicy chilli paste to boost the flavor and the Nepali milk tea (Chiya/chai) to end the meal was perfect. Will definitely come back and Ill recommend this place to anyone craving Nepalese or Indian food.(Forgot to take pictures of rest of the food cause I was too busy eating them. Lol)
I came from NY only to find out the only negative thing about Charlotte...no good food smh. Thank you King of Spicy for existing! The only thing I order here is the curry, level 5...and masala chai. Each time, its very consistent and good. And thats all that matters.
Great food! I am a regular there now!
Edit: Something has changed in this past year. Their buffet has become worse. I dont know if its the buffet that has become worse or overall. I will probably not try the buffet here again.Awesome food. Portions are amazing. Ambiance is ok. Keema naan is a must try. Its good and not available in all the restaurants. Chicken 65 and chicken chilli both delicious. Their quantity and quality is definitely better than other restaurants. Definitely coming back.
It’s okay. They give good size portions but the food was bland. I got the chicken tikka masala and it wasn’t bad but nothing to write home about.
Highly recommend don’t waste money.Very bad food and poor customer service.
Went there for my birthday and was honestly pretty disappointed in their quality of food. I got different naans and breads, biryani, manchurian meatballs, fried onions, tandoori chicken, and lamb makhani. The bread were all dry and stale. You pay 3 dollars for a bread that has no stretch. Biryiani was decent, got it with the 65 chicken which was spicy. The tandoori chicken was extremely dry and tough to eat. I felt like I went to my brothers place who hasnt touched a pan.
My first time eating there. I liked how they have listed level of spicy on the menu. Food was delicious. Ill go there again
I ordered from this restaurant yesterday. I have to say the food is delicious! I recommend to everyone. If your not into hott spicy food go very low in the spicy scale. I ordered a 2 and it was hott for me. But scrumptious! Try the chicken momos for sure. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants now!!! Thank you King of Spicy!!!!
I often meet people here to talk. I will be back with my relatives. The prices are good for what you get. Feels like a place in Los Angeles I loved.
Best Indian/Nepali spot Ive tried in Charlotte
Wish i could put 0 stars. one day i go there its closed. apparently they open after 2. who the heck eats after 2? might was well open at 5 or just post so. but website says open but it was closed.i parked and waited. owner comes at 1:30. I get out and ask him if its open. he turns away and locks door.... how rude!!! i later come to know they open after 2 but put that on your website. no wonder u shut down from prev place and from the looks of it and your attitude this will close down too... words experience before even eating there...
This place is amazing the food is phenomenal and the girl at the register is so lovely :) i love number 15 level 7 of spicy lol i highly recommend it :) my favorite restaurant so far
Delicious food and great people.
Food is always awesome customer service good as well.
The food is always delicious. My favs are the korma and gobi manchurian dry
Rude staff. Terrible food. No hygiene.Ordered Veg momo, received chicken mono. The manger failed to even apologies for their mistake. Instead she just argued.AVOID THIS PLACE!!!
The food and people go hand in hand absolutely the best! Both are wonderful, food is of upmost importance as well as customers what else do you want out of a restaurant! The Best Ive been to for about 2 years now and still hold it the standard.
What a hidden jem!!!!!!! Stumbled across it on google maps and came in for the lunch buffet. Area seemed a bit sketch (I’m in town for work) but very glad I committed. Small hole in the wall place but food was great! Next time I’m in the area I will definitely be back.
Perfect for Indian and Nepali foods. You can choose your own spicy levels. Decent prices for buffet and also for dining. Love it 😍
The best Indian food in charlotte ths food is majorly delicious
Chicken masala is great amazing food
I loved the taste but even 7 and 8 slice level were too spicy, Even though I like spicy. Be careful what level you order.Took off another star as this placed really messed up my stomach and gave me food poisoning. Like I said I am used to very spicy food but still I couldnt digest the spices they used.
Love this place. The people are always super friendly and the food is great.
They have one of the best dumplings.Their KoC spl biryani is also very good.
My boss at work recommended this place. I am glad I decided to go. The food was great, and the space is generally quiet, which I appreciate.
In my opinion its the best Indian in Charlotte. The food is not complete mush and you know that they use full herbs. The naan is delicious. You can choose how spicy you want your food and get it Indian hot. If you go during the buffet there is a great selection. It feels full service despite being a buffet at lunch as well. The inside is a bit run down but dont let it fool you. Food and service shine through.
Everything is soooooo delicious every time! Weve only ever door dashed it, but the food is to die for. Best manchurian gobi EVER. Get out of your comfort zone and give it a try!
One of the best seafood platters I have experienced. Mr. Walkers signature sauce is the MAIN ingredient that makes me come back every single weekend. Its also very organized and the wait is not long at all and very well worth it. Im very happy to claim bragging rights from the east side of Charlotte! The best damn seafood in the city is 5 min from my home. East Charlotte is winning!
If u wanna try out authentic Nepali/Indian food, this is the place! Small dining area but comfort enough. If u go out with a group, gotta have to wait quite some time. Togo is better
Awesome establishment. Food is fantastic. One of the few places in NC that can do spicy authentically and properly. If spicy isn’t your thing then no worries they allow you the option with a 1-10 level. My new favorite. Food is fresh, prepared from scratch and the manager is very attentive and present. Highly recommend the Chicken Curry and chili garlic naan.
This place is amazing. You can tell they put care into their food, my only issue is deciding on what to get because everything is so good. My wife insists we go every two weeks.
My first time trying Indian/Nepali cuisine. I had the chicken tikka. Pay close attention to the spice meter on the menu. If it is your first visit, tell the staff! The owner came out to meet me and told me he never lets a first timer go above level 4. 3 is considered a baby spice level. I usually avoid spicy foods so it may have felt spicier to me than others, but I ate the entire meal and will go back with my son and daughter who LOVE spicy foods!
Food is excellent!! Great hospitality and customer service. Employees make you feel right at home! Anyone who hasnt tried this place definitely needs to!
Excellent food, great prices,friendly service
Great food at a great price!
Love this place! The interior is nothing special, but the food is some of the tastiest Indian food I’ve ever had, anywhere. I appreciate the 1-10 spicy option, too. The mango lassi is really special.
My husband and I have been to this restaurant quite a few times, and this visit was exceptional! Something has changed here because the food was absolutely delicious and our service was fantastic. We didnt have to wait for drinks and our server went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our meals. The food was excellent, and seasoned appropriately. When they say it is spicy, it is spicy!!
Some of the best Nepali/Indian food I ever had! We had great service for our large party of 20. Even though we came later in the afternoon, they made fresh food for us on the buffet. Excellent food and service!
Best momos in charlotte!!
This buffet looked horrible... Wasent fresh and had barly anything on it. About 5 peices of chicken in the Tikka masala.. and 10 people eating. Boo. Try Royal India in Raleigh NC when you are there for the real deal.
Cant beat a price and value of their lunch buffet. If youre in the mood for Indian, check it out. And if you want a little extra spicy, they have fresh habaneros chopped or baked in the naan bread per request.
My daughters and I favorite place for Indian cuisine and lunch buffet. The staff is so polite. And the fresh naan with my order makes all the other places seem like theirs was preciously frozen. No joke. Try it for yourself.
No longer King of Spicy but now Seafood Connection. Hands down the food is great. Its something in the sauce (BUTTER)! So glad that the service has gotten better but now they just need a new process to seat people and so forth. Also take better care of their facility. There was no soap or paper towels in the bathrooms. With all that butter, I need somewhere to wash my hands afterwards.
Possibly the best service and Indian food I have ever had. Also get the Rasmalai dessert. Its gluten free and so yummy!
Great buffet. The food was tasty and looked very healthy. The choice for the buffet is limited and all the meat is spicy but excellent if you like Asian spices. They also serve an excellent Nepalese tea.
Always our favorite place to eat. Their Korma is the absolute best Ive ever had and the portion sizes are insane!!! (In a good way) Sometimes there is a bit of a wait but its always worth it for the low prices and the amazing food.
Rough neighborhood and parking lot will knock your wheels out of alignment. Staff is friendly but the interior feels dingy. Buffets tend to attract a crowd that isnt exactly picky, caring more about quantity than quality. Im still undecided about this spot.
I used to love this place/order meal all the time until tonight and i dont usually complain or write a review. I always order goat or Lamb curry and it was always good. Tonight i order lamb curry with brown rice and garlic bread for $18 and it was not good so i called them and the manager was supper nice and he apologized and told me to come and get another lamb curry /rice/garlic bread for free with $5 gift card. They really care for their customers and want them to be happy with their food so guys the manager is awesome!
Great food! My new favorite spot for South Asian cuisine!
Great lunch buffet! Can’t beat the price for a tasty lunch. Great service.
We order food here at least twice a month. Take out and delivery services are excellent! We LOVE the food here and have never been disappointed with the service or quality! Would recommend to anyone!
The food is ALWAYS Fresh and Tasty... my husband and I go often, and each and every time- we try something new and are never disappointed!!
Now you may be skeptical about the place but trust me the food is amazing and out of the world. Probably the best Indian food I have had after I have come to Charlotte, it tastes absolutely Amazing. The spices are well blended served exactly how they should be. This was my first visit but I can guarantee that I am stopping by that place really soon.
I have never been a fan of Indian cuisine despite giving it a try on multiple occasions since my girlfriend really loves it. After a visit to King of Spicy a few minutes ago, however, Im a believer. The naan was the best Ive ever had; the goat was tender and free of bones; the chickpeas were impossibly soft and consistent; and everything was zesty and popping with flavor.Being that my girlfriend has a dairy allergy, it was also highly appreciated that the attentive host/server was aware of everything on the lunch buffet that had butter or heavy cream in the ingredients.Youre reading that right, by the way: we went for the lunch buffet. If lunchtime is when such a restaurants offerings are least representative of their best performance, then dinner must be truly exceptional. We will have to come back and try that out.If you love Indian food or really want to like it but havent yet found a place to be converted, give this spot a shot.
The buffet at lunch is great! $9.99 all you can eat. The food is always delicious, more expensive at dinner though. But great selection, very spicy.
Honestly Ive never tried the food that king of spicy sells. I often visit the restaurant inside of King of spicy (held on the bar side of the restaurant) called Seafood Connection Clt. The seafood is amazing. Thats why I have given it the 5 stars.
We have celebrated our kid first birthday party. We really like the service and the cost of the food is affordable. We will definitely suggest this place for any party event. They give separate buffet table for the event hall
Best Indian food in Charlotte! The inside looks OK, but well worth the delicious food and amazing customer service. I choose this Indian restaurant over any other in the city
Ordered delivery a few weeks ago. From the friendly man on the phone to the rather quick delivery to the fresh and delicious food, I am was pleased. Spicy is SPICY so pick carefully. Happy customer
Food is good. Service is quick. It’s a very simple restaurant with not so good ambience. Don’t go by the interior photos posted here.
Great tasting food. Only place in the general area where you can get your Indian food fix. Wanting to try out their lunch buffet when I get the chance.
The food was delicious. We went for the $9.99 lunch buffet. At first we thought there weren’t enough options... about 7-9 items, no salads or appetizers. But after sampling all of the choices we were satisfied. Most everything was fantastic. The butter chicken and chickpea dish were the best. I would never have ordered a chickpea dish if I hadn’t tried it on the buffet first, but when we return I will get it again. The free naan brought to table was great. None of it was overly spicy; maybe they cater to the average Charlotte tastebuds on the buffet. We are adding this place to our monthly rotation. I’m already craving it again one day later.
This place is mostly consistent in quality and taste, which is why it gets 4 stars. Sometimes they are a little off though, and it can put off your appetite. The South Indian Samosa chaat is always amazing, and so are the various North Indian curries.
Go to this place if you want to try real Indian spicy.
I saw this place on the way home from church. I had passed it by, so I had to drive further down the road to turn around. I have never seen an Indian buffet before. It was marvelous. I would highly recommend.
Man I was skeptical when I first came here .. i read the reviews i decided to try the buffet as well ..OMG ..food was so good!! I never expected it to be that good!! One of my favorites in Charlotte now!
Amazing flavors. Do yourself a favor and get the momo. Best dumplings Ive ever had.
Great Indian food. I have been to many Indian spots in America as well as overseas. This place compares to my experiences overseas. A lot of places in the states dont make their own naan, not these guys. The naan is perfect! For the price, you get a lot of food. I couldnt eat half my food. And if you like spicy, as I do, be careful on the level of spicy you choose. I chose six and that was fairly pretty hot for me. I definitely will always choose this spot when I go for indian food. The only downside was they only had soda, tea and tap water to drink when I went. I hope that is not always the only options. Besides that, this place is wow.
Dont go unless you want to develop a new habit-forming craving for savory Indian food.
EDIT: I’m leaving the original review because I want everyone to know about the great customer service. After leaving the original review, the owner requested that I contact them. In the end, the food was replaced and the staff was extremely friendly and understanding. They didn’t have to replace the items and they didn’t have to provide explanation but they did. Great customer service and delicious food. Definitely my go-to!The food is SO GOOD....when the heat is consistent. I’ve ordered 4 times.First order: heat of 4. Perfect.Second order: heat of 3. Just a hair too spicy but still able to eat it because...it’s so good.Third order: still nervous from last order. Heat of 2. Absolutely delicious. Perfect amount of spice. Weirdly like the time I ordered a 4.Fourth order: heat of 2. Like licking the face of the sun. Completely inedible. Tasted nothing and couldnt stomach more than 2 bites.I hate complaining about foods that are stereotypically spicy because spicy is relative to each person. However, how is it possible that I can eat a 4 one time and can’t stomach more than 2 bites of a 2. I love some spicy but this has myself and others with sweat on our brows....at a 2. We haven’t been able to get the same experience twice which is the true issue. The food itself is stellar when you can taste it.
I used door dash to have it delivered. First time trying king of spicy. Highly recommended. Very helpful staff as well. Thank you.
I order from here frequently and it’s hands down the best Indian food in Charlotte
We ordered off the menu vs the buffet. Since the food is fresh and cooked to order, it took a little longer than maybe some other restaurants but it was well worth the wait. Excellent. Our waiter was nice and helpful, we even had a chance to talk to the cook who was very nice. Next time maybe we will try the buffet, but we definitely will return. You can select from different American spice levels and different Indian spice levels, so if you do not want the food too hot or spicy, you have a chose. Also, if you really want it very hot, you also have a choice. Take your time and enjoy the food.
Food is super fresh, made to order!!
Poor Receiving. Delayed supply of items. Food is also not tasty. We requested to cancel the order after tasting appetizers. Finally adjusted with the situation after Supervisors request. Forgot to tell.... they are not accepting Group On coupons. Hope, this information is helpful. Take Care...
Absolutely fantastic. The food was delicious, very nice atmosphere, the servers (Raj and Kenia) were both very friendly and accommodating. If you dont like spicy food, dont be put off by the name, not everything is spicy. My moms dish did have a little bit too much heat for her and they replaced it with something more mild very quickly. This restaurant is much nicer than I was expecting from its location, its in kind of a run down shopping center, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Great menu with lots of stuff to choose from. I would strongly recommend King of Spicy.
Ate here for the first time with my wife for lunch last week, and had to come back again today. This place is so dang good! Flavors are amazing. The lunch buffet is what we ordered both times. Not too expensive either. 9.99. Not too hot either. Its enough to give your mouth a good tingle tho. The tea is very tasty as well. The Naan bread....oh man....the Naan bread is fresh and hot....and the best i ever had. The atmosphere is good too. A small little place, but clean. The staff is super friendly and very generous. This is a new go to spot for me and my wife. Check this place out for some delicious indian food!
Food is banging! I been there 3 times this week .. best Indian food spot
Have been several times with family and friends! Food is excellent! Ordering from the menu might take a little time, but the food is cooked fresh and worth the wait!
Very good food, the place is also very clean. Definitely recommend it.
The food was really good. You can choose your level of spiciness. I would definitely go back again.
Some of the best food Ive ever had.
I will recommend everyone to go this restaurant to taste healthy, delicious and tasty Nepali and Indian foods. Best Indian -Nepali restaurant of a queen city.
They are very good and they have a buffet on weekdays for $9.99
Went there for momo and it was not hot. I had to eat cold momo
Food was very fresh and amazing!! The service was great as well, and Raj is a very hard-working man. Definitely recommend to anyone for authentic Indian, indochinese, and Nepali food !!
Very good
The food is amazing, and the staff is so kind. I just moved away, and I cant wait to come back and eat here again. Highly recommended!
