Sensei Mo is simply the best karate instructor in the RDU area. If you want a McDojo, go somewhere else. If you want quality instruction given with patience, kindness, and compassion, this is the place to find it.
Sensei Mo is AWESOME with kids and a fantastic teacher. Having trained in Traditional Shotokan, I was looking for a good Dojo for myself and my 4 year old that wasnt a cookie cutter McDojo. Check it out for yourself and see why everyone here is family.
Absolutely terrible. James Paredes is a fake and a thief. To take these good peoples money from them and prey on their trust is messed up. I wouldnt let him pay me to attend this school.
Sensei Mo is the genuine article in Japanese Shotokan Karate. He is a world class competitor, with numerous gold medals in national and international tournaments. His expertise in Shotokan Karate shows in the achievements of his students. His dojo has produced national AAU and NKF champions for several years in a row. My son rose from white to black belt under Mos guidance. For anyone who is serious about karate, I recommend you start with Mos Shotokan Karate.
My original training was in American Karate...which was a mixture of several styles...but mostly based on traditional Okinawan and Japanese styles. I earned the rank of second degree Black Belt in that style. I moved from my hometown in Granite Falls, NC to the Raleigh area in 1990 to attend NC State. I helped to pay for may way through college teaching karate to kids and teens through a local organization that coordinates classes through various Parks & Recreation Depts,, Ys, and other similar places all over NC, SC, and VA. After obtaining my Engineering Degree from State...I decided to continue teaching and working as a manager for the same karate organization. Other than teaching, my primary role was to interview prospective instructors and make sure they were qualified from a martial arts standpoint...but more importantly that they understand how to properly teach and communicate with kids and teens...and interact with the parents and others involved with the classes. This afforded me the opportunity to meet, train with, exchange ideas with, and interact with individuals from all sorts of martial arts backgrounds, styles, and abilities.I eventually stopped working with the karate organization to pursue a career that would better utilize my Engineering Degree from State. But over the years, I have trained with numerous local martial arts schools....and most recently with Sensei Mo at Mos Shotokan Karate. The reason I spent so many words talking about my background is not to try and give you my resume...it is to convey the fact that I have been around the block numerous times as it relates to martial arts styles and more importantly instructors. It is very easy for me to know a good martial arts instructor and school from one that is not necessarily so good...or maybe even just a storefront looking to separate your money from your wallet. And I can say without any hesitation that Mos Shotokan Karate is an outstanding place for anyone...no matter your age or ability...to learn authentic traditional karate. Also...there are very few martial artists that I have had an opportunity to train with that are on the level of Sensei Mo as far as their proficiency and ability. Sensei Mo would be the last to brag about his abilities and accomplishments...but he has competed at the highest levels himself...and still to the day wins Grand Championships left and right at competitions. And unlike some elite champions....he has an amazing ability to convey his expertise and attention to detail to his students..no matter what the age and ability. It is amazing to see how he has transformed so many beginning students into high level martial artists. And he does all of this while treating his students with respect and dignity. But I will warn you that Mos Shotokan Karate is not a McDojo....which is a fast food type of facility. Another term is belt factory...meaning that if you just show up...and pay enough money...you will be rewarded with the next colored belt. And if you keep doing it long enough...you will earn a black belt by just showing up and paying your dues each month. Sensei Mo will train you and give you the proper tools to be very successful. But you will have to put in the effort and practice sufficiently in order to move up the ranks. This is how quality martial arts schools work. So if you just want to show up for 3 years and get a free ride to black belt...then look elsewhere. You wont be happy at Mos Shotokan Karate. If you are still unsure as to whether or not to give Sensie Mo a try...then go to watch a beginner class to see how well he works with new students. But as with any martial arts school...you should also stick around to watch some more advanced classes. I would recommend checking out a black belt class...and you will see some teenage kids that will stun you with their abilities. And then realize that most of those teenage black belts started out in the same beginner class you watched earlier in the day. That transformation should sell you on Mos Shotokan Karate!
My two sons have been training with Sensei Mo for eight and a half years. They are both accomplished black belts and have held many State, Regional and National titles. Mos Shotokan Karate has produced USA Karate Team members two years in a row. My youngest son currently holds a place on the Jr. USA NKF National Karate Team as well as on the Jr. USA AAU National Karate Team. Sensei Mo has a perfectly balanced style of teaching that incorporates trust, discipline and respect. The knowledge and skills that he has passed on to my kids have led them to be very successful martial artists. Sensei Mo values family, both his own as well as our karate family. He is a very supportive, respectful, encouraging and positive role model for the students. My kids love and highly respect Sensei Mo and there is no other place they would rather be. They deserve the best...and Sensei Mo IS THE BEST! Check out Mos Shotokan Karate and see for yourself - your kids will LOVE IT!
My two grandsons have been going to Mos Shotokan Karate and are doing very well. The oldest grandson 8 yrs old and 3rd degree brown belt just won the 2015 NKF National Kata Championship in Fort Lauderdale Fla. The youngest grandson 6yr old orange belt just won the 2015 AAU National Championship in weapons and kumite. Sensei Mo teaches every class with a hands on approach and does not settle for anything less than the best. Sensei Mo is a world class instructor who cares for his students as family. World Class Family and World Class Dojo !!!!!
My son has been with Sensei Mo of Mos Shotokan Karate for almost 8yrs. I could not have asked for a better achieved teacher. Sensei Mo has been a great influence and an outstanding karate teacher from the day I brought my 3yr old son into his dojo. My son is now a black belt and has accomplished alot (including a win at NKF championship) in his young years while training under Sensei Mo. Sensei Mo maintains a good balance of tough training and pampering with his students. I cherish my karate family and would not trade it for anything else. I highly recommend this dojo for anyone who is looking into a competitive karate school for their children.
Jiu Jitsu instructor has had no formal training whatsoever, yet has the audacity to pass himself off as an authority. Anyone who viewed his instructionals can see that he doesnt know what hes doing. He can not give a straight answer whenever questioned about who he learned from. Its obvious he awarded himself his sham black belt...theres absolutely no way any respectable martial artists would endorse the nonsense he demonstrates.
Respect. Students becomes winners here
