My car was in two other shops before I brought it to Chip and he was the first person to properly diagnose my problem, and it was covered under warranty. I would not have known that if it werent for his honest service. I will definitely be back to him any time I need work on a vehicle.

I moved to Dallas two years ago, and til this day I am still researching different dentists, doctors, and optometrists to visit, I am proud to say that I have found my mechanic. The first time I went to Chips was about a month after I moved to Dallas. I was shopping around to find the best shop to get my Jeeps windows tinted and fate had landed me at Chips Auto Repair. If you dont know Chip, you must know that he is very passionate about what he does. He explained the importance of tinted windows and how not having them can affect you. He loves what he does, and he is excited to tell you all about it.Honestly, I wish there were more Chips in the world. Going to Chips Auto Repair will be the best decision you make today :)

I dont know of many mechanics, or just plain people, that would take their personal time after work hours to help someone because they looked like they needed help. Thats what Chips Auto Repair did for us.Our car started vibrating and the check engine light started flashing so we couldnt drive any further. It was after business hours and we panicked that no one could help us. We luckily pulled into Chips Auto Shop and someone was there. Now, most people that have dealt with enough businesses might think, Well, Now youre in trouble and he can charge you whatever he wants. and most of the time, they would be right. But he was fast and knowledgeable. He took a quick look, saw a quick fix and did it...for no charge. Please understand that he SHOULD have charged us. He DESERVED payment for his work as anyone would deserve payment for theirs. I would have happily paid him for helping us out in our time of need.Im not here to speak about rates - everyone is entitled to their own opinion on whats a fair price and I do not have the experience to speak on it. The least I can do is to let some people know that Chips has integrity.I work with wide range businesses in my industry, including repair shops, and after dealing with so many businesses, I truly value integrity, since unfortunately, I find so few businesses that have it and that businesses with integrity tend to do higher quality work and save me a lot more money. Highly Recommend.

Ive used Chips Auto Repair for nearly two years, and theyve been the best. It seems that they run their business according to this formulation: Everything that is essential, and nothing that is not. Theyre straight shooters, so if youre looking for someone to continually smile at you, hold your hand, and tell you what you want to hear, dont go there. Theyre not always the cheapest, if you only look at the short-term. But if you look at the long-term, theyll save you the most money because they recommend/do whats necessary for your car to have a long life. Heres a tip from my experience: around the Christmas holidays, make appointments ahead of time.

My heat guard was dragging on the pavement. Went in at 8am and it was fixed by 8:30. He checked to make sure there was no other damage to the undercarriage and did not try to get me to go for an expensive repair. Honest guy. I will be back in the future.

I had the best experience at Chip’s auto repair. They were able to get me in right away for a simple oil change. Then they noticed how bad my air filter was and actually showed it to me and explained why I needed to get it changed. They also went out of their way to check my tire pressure and fill it up for the winter for free. They went through the cost of everything and the pricing was better than any place I’ve ever been, they don’t overcharge for the service like most places. I really appreciate how straightforward they were, and I definitely will be going back for any service I need in the future!

Trustworthy, friendly, knowledgeable mechanics with excellent service. I run a school, and we depend heavily on our van. Yesterday, as it returned from a field trip, we suddenly saw that we had a fluid leak. Chip knew that we needed it for another field trip today. The repair required was not minor, but he managed to repair it the same day! It now runs beautifully again, and the children did not have to miss out on their fun experience.I have used his shop on many occasions now, and at times he has recommended that I skip the maintenance that I thought was needed, when it really was not. What honesty! It is a real relief to know that I have a mechanic I can trust.Most of all, since we transport children, I am happy to know that I have someone competent I can trust to keep the van running safely.

Chip/Junior and their wrench men have always done a nice job repairing my vehicles over the years. I feel his prices are fair and they do a nice job of explaining the cost and process of the work that is being preformed. Highly recommend Chips shop.

Great experience! Carried in my parts for service (wheel studs pressed into hubs), and was charged exactly what was agreed upon. As they were for a 1970 Dodge with a rare brake system, Chip made absolutely sure exactly what was needed before performing the work. I would recommend his shop to anyone due to his integrity and fair pricing. Thanks, Chip!

Fixed a problem they created. Nothing was mechanically wrong with my vehicle, but it was deem illegal to drive by the great ole State of Texas. Anyhow, they owned up to it and fixed the issue without fuss. Cannot say that about a lot companies in this industry. Most are quick to deny everything and point to finger at yourself or someone else regardless of proof. I give it five stars for their honestly and responsibility alone. I will go back if I have any problems with my vehicles in the future (knocks on wood).Keep in mind that my issue was not major. Just a very bad inconvenience that I lucky had time to waste on. If my problem was more mechanical or the cost was more than what you normally keep in your wallet it could have been different. Still again, most companies in this industry would not take responsibility if they gave your keys to someone else. Take a chance with Chips AR. If you need a shop you can trust, give them a try.

Best place to take your vehicle for repairs. Gives it to you straight, and will identify what needs to be done now and what you can hold off on. Taken my vehicles to Chip since Ive been able to drive.

I had to have an emergency repair on my brakes and Chip went above and beyond taking me through the whole process step by step. His level of professionalism is unparalleled. I highly recommend him for any work on your car.

This guy is a prick! I took my car in as it wouldnt start. The battery was ruled out as an issue by Batteries Plus (the battery was under warranty with them). I took it here under a referral. Told the guy my issues and explained the battery wasnt an issue and was under warranty. Left my car with him for check on what needed to be done. He said he would call me to let me know what was going on. Later he calls to say he replaced the battery and everything is fine that I now owed him $210. He never asked if that was okay to replace before doing the work, just did the work. Now I have two batteries with two warranties and Im out $210. I couldnt get my car without paying him. NOT HAPPY - watch out for this guy.

Have took my car TWICE to chip, I am VERY picky about who touches my Lexus and Chip couldn’t have been the better person to go to as my mechanic. I have never had a mechanic physically show me what is going on with the car and what they found. Chip and his team are truly honest and very genuine people!

Never even made into this shop, and I would highly suggest going somewhere else. I only called to see about the possibility of getting a company box truck diagnosed and possibly repaired. Was instantly greeted with I cant look at it right now. Was asked for the information on the vehicle as I was hanging up. Then was told the big bay was full right now, and Chips couldnt help me. Completely unprofessional and rude.

Stuck at Albertsons with a car full of groceries and a car that wouldn’t start I walked over to Chip’s Auto Repair looking for help. Chip immediately had one of his guys drive me back to my car where he got it started and I drove it back to his shop where they diagnosed a dead battery right away. They didn’t have the right battery in stock so Chip asked Napa to expedite delivery and it was there in a matter of minutes. It was installed and the system tested a few minutes later. Great Customer Service, friendly staff and reasonable prices. I will definitely be back.

Ive got a 10 year old Ford Ranger that I wouldnt trust ANYONE else to take care of. I pay for Honesty, Integrity, Quality and Service. Its not supposed to be cheap if you want it done RIGHT! Thanks for keeping my old truck alive and kicking Chip!

Im very disappointed that I must write this review, but with that said I feel I must. We live in this area and have brought our cars to this shop a few times and have had pretty good service, but unfortunately we will never go back to this shop again. We took my car in a week ago because of a loud noise it was making and told the mechanic (JR) that we thought it was the wheel bearing. He kept the car, took it for a drive (so he stated) and came back and said it was the cooling fan not working. So we agreed to what they said, since weve had a good service in the past, and didnt think we needed to question them on this. Ya know - we trusted WHAT THEY WERE TELLING US!! We picked up the car the next day and drove home and could hear the same noise. I called the next morning and got Chip on the phone to explain the situation and HE said. Well I wasnt here yesterday so you need to talk to the mechanic who worked on it (really Chip? You couldnt take it upon yourself to find out yourself - not very good customer service)...so JR gets on the phone and I was being very pleasant with him and began to explain that the noise was still there, etc. He immediately became irritated with me, he came across as though he was thinking how dare I challenge him on what was done. He basically told me that the work he did was needed and that I basically must be hearing a new noise. He said he thought something was wrong with something in my starter - I was like WHAT??? And then he told me that they drove my car after the work they did and didnt hear a noise...again I say WHAT? There is no way they did that - they would have heard the noise FOR SURE!!We spent $400.00 on a repair that truly wasnt necessary. We agreed to have the work done because we trusted them as we have in the past. I had to take my car to another shop where they in turn did find out that it was one of the wheel bearings. We will never go back to Chips again - they have blown the trust we had in them.Just to be fair to Chip, he is truly a very nice man and I believe he has built his business on being honest and thoroughness, but he blew me off and had his mechanic handle this situation and did nothing to follow up with me. With that Im even more disappointed. Ive tried to call the shop a few times to speak to Chip, but every time I call it goes to voice mail. So, this is where I am at - out of pocket for $400.00, Sorry Chip, but you have lost a customer. He probably doesnt even read these reviews. But I definitely go to the internet for reviews for new businesses so I hope this will help the next person. Im not saying to not go there, but I would have them prove to you what work they need to do. BUYER BEWARE

Car owners beware! Normally, I would be hesitant to say this, but Chips Auto Repair was the worst mechanic experience I have ever had.I had just purchased a car, and they were quick to pick up on worries that I had from my last car which broke down. When I first walked in and told them I would like them to have a look at my car because the temperatures were high, the two men at the front desk laughed at me. Their head mechanic then ranted about how much he hates working on Volkswagens like mine. Instead of telling me my radiator had a leak, they told me I had coolant in the oil and vice versa, indicating that I had blown head gaskets, and that I would probably need to replace the engine. Now, it already seems like an overkill, but they pulled up codes from my cars computer and told me I had to replace my timing belt (another 800 dollars), and that I probably wouldnt make it to a dealership. Upon making it to a dealership 30 miles away, they told me the timing belt was fine, and that the code meant nothing more than keep an eye on it. After a quick fix at another mechanic, my car has been running fine for a year. In reality, they took a quick fix and tried to sell me a service that would have been well over 2000 dollars. And sure, many places have a problem with their staff, but the owner himself was there when this happened, so I can assure you I am not the first one. If they tell you that you need an expensive repair, check elsewhere. Like in my case, it just may pay off.

I have been taking my cars to Chips for a couple of years from a referral of a good friend. I have had nothing but great work and even better results. I have read these reviews and am kinda shocked to read some of the negative comments. I had a battery under warranty from Oriellys, they tested it said it was good. Chip said it was the battery, changed and never had another problem. AC problem barely blowing on my van, took it to him, he called me within an hour saying it was the worse clogged filter he had ever seen. Did not even charge me. He offers discounts to vets, this means alot to me. Chip is good people.

Chips been servicing our vehicles since he was working out of some garage space in the back of the old Napa Auto location in Coppell. Always great to have someone you can trust to do the work on your car when its needed 👍

These people hourly charges are the most outrageous charges. The dealership does it for cheaper. I called for a Spark Plug Change sad thing about it I called on a friday but I wasnt able to do it and a gentlemen told me he would charger $150 talk to the owner the following week jumped to $450 sounds dishonest to me. Called and asked about pricing and recycling coolant. Not helpful. Rude and ended up not being able to help despite what I was told on the phone.

Chip said I needed numerous repairs done in order for my car to pass inspection and he failed my car. I was skeptical and took my car to another mechanic and he said I didnt need any repairs done at all. He redid the inspection and passed it. Beware of Chip!
