Fair prices, excellent customer service, courteous staff... What else can you ask for? I was traveling for business and was having a hard time finding a vehicle to rent. Gillianie was amazing from the moment I made my reservation; answered all my questions with the most upbeat attitude you could imagine. And was just as courteous in person. Shuttle service at the airport was very easy, and the driver professional and friendly. Everyone there was friendly! I am just booking my next trip, and guess where Ill be renting my car from? Yup. Overall decent experience. We needed a vehicle to seat 6, popular was one of the few to have one and at a moderately decent price. Pick up was really slow we called from baggage claim while waiting for our bags, still waited around 30 min outside. Once we arrived we waited outside for another 30 min to get our vehicle. There was only one family in front of us. 1 car returned while we waited. Lots of staff around. Returning the vehicle and our return to the airport was much faster. We would consider popular again in the future for a good deal but will check some of the onsite airport rental places first.

Very nice experience. The vehicle was in excellent condition, the lady in charge of my reservation was very kind, took her time to explain everything to me, and was available every time I reached her. Also, it was a very fair price. Recommended.

… we had 10 people headed to Puerto Rico, rented this 15-passenger van for a week and had nothing but great times traveling around the island including San Juan. Canovanas. Luquillo Beach. Fajardo. Ceiba. El Junque. Guavate. Cayey. And more!!! … we also opted for the $4 per day Toll Road pass for worry-free driving on the AutoPizta!!! … easy & quick pick-up & drop-off to the SUJ San Juan airport.

I found Popular Auto rental agency by accident when Allied across the street didn’t open on time and no one was there. Luckily Ronaldo at Popular was able to get us a car at a way better rate than Allied. The rental process was easy and the car was brand new and had no problems. Return was easy. Note that they take a $500 deposit which seems high but it’s refunded without a hassle when you return the car undamaged. Overall a good rental experience and I will definitely rent from here again during my next visit to PR.

I had a very pleasant rental experience here. I did not use their shuttle, I had ubered from my hotel to their location. I booked on their website. The only additional option that I gladly added was the toll pass which was only $4.95 a day for unlimited tolls. I will definitely come back to rent from them again.

Just got back Vacation in Puerto Rico. From the time I booked with Popular auto I received text messages updating me on my rental. When I arrived at SanJuan PR the Shuttle Van was outside waiting. The driver very friendly. Ronaldo at the counter was very knowledgeable, friendly & got us to our auto quickly. I will definitely rent Popular Auto again. These people are completely lazy inefficient . They work on two speed slow and stop and trust me they are stop most of the times. Run away from this place. I waited for one hour before they told me I needed a number. Theres NO sign that said you need to get a number. I just made the line like everyone else. Worse car rental place

Awesome fast service! Giliannie, was the attendant that took care of our rental was great. She was very knowledgeable, friendly, and thorough. Our car rental was ready at the time of arrival and she assisted us with all of the paperwork, the vehicle inspection and explained everything in detail. The car we rented was clean, reliable and had no issues. She also made some suggestions that we took advantage of such as the unlimited daily toll. The return went just as well, we were in and out in less than 10 minutes and my deposit was refunded in full the next business day. Giliannie was a pleasure to work with and it also helped that she speaks both Spanish and English fluently. I will rent from here again in the future.

As many others have mentioned verify information before booking it may seem like the more affordable option but with all the optional extra fees it almost comes out to the same as other rental companies. Do your research dont just choose for the price. Even though the experience was not the best we did have a more pleasant experience with one of the employees who was really sweet about explaining protocol and apologizing for our experience.

Although I have never rented a car here, I know people who have and they have told me that they would never want to repeat the dreadful experiences that they have had here.Any company that offers prices that seem to be too good to be true, usually quickly shows you why.In this case they apparently attract one with extremely low prices which are then inflated by numerous fees.They are slow, rude and uncaring according to one friend of mine.Again, I have never rented a car here, but when I saw their $6 per day advertisements, I knew something was wrong.

It took over 3 hrs to get my car. Not a good way to start a vacation. The process is very disorganized. Next time I’ll spend a little more and get my car at the airport and avoid a headache. The shuttle drivers were very friendly however.

Lo barato sale caro!!!!!!!!! U pay for what u get, except this is less than what you paid for.We rented a car a few weeks ago and even though we had to wait like 1.5h to get our car, apparently we were lucky because some other ppl had waited 2 hours and plus.Definitely not what we were looking for after a long flight, plus that we had to wait 1 hour for the shuttle bus, after calling three times. We had no problems with the car; however, we got a parking ticket on the last day of our trip, so we took it to the Popular auto rental place and the salesperson mentioned they would pay the ticket soon so we would not be charged 100% of the parking ticket, only 70% if paid before 15 days. The ticket was for $200 for parking for 2 seconds in Condado area on a Sunday. Almost the same amount of the rental fee!Anyways I guess because they were not affected, they DO NOT CARE if their customers lose money, especially when the salesperson tells you they would pay early and once you call them, they say something else aka: we will pay the ticket when the registration of the car expires who knows when!?!? So lesson learned: I wont be renting another car from this company because as long as you do not have any problem, everything is acceptable, but as soon as we had one, well you are on your own.

Rental van was infested with roaches. When we complain about it they said that other people return it with garbage and or food and that is why it is the way it is. Ridiculous!!!

When we went to return the jeep, we waited outside, while the attendant was on his cell phone on a personal call holding the cell with his shoulder to his right ear, and did not hang up the call to check vehicle. We felt really IGNORE.Poor customer service.

We waited at the airport for 30 minutes for their shuttle and then were told they closed 4 hours prior 🤦‍♀️So we had to take a taxi to our place; which defeated the purpose of renting a car in the first place.We walked to the location the next morning and had to wait outside with no water or seating for 45 minutes in the hot sun before they tended to us to get us our car.The people were rude and not friendly.DO NOT BOOK THIS COMPANY!!Save yourself the hassle, enjoy your vacation, and rent something from the airport. Lesson learned!!

The $16 a day rental fee was definitely a scam.They give you a number to call once you land at the airport and then notify you about a shuttle service they provide. We waited for about an hour for one and when it came there was about 25 people also waiting for the same van. We ended up needing a taxi that costs $17.Once you arrive you collect a ticket as if youre at the deli at the super market and I kid you not we arrived at 2PM and it was 4PM by the time it was our turn. They do not have a waiting area indoors.I had purchased collision protection insurance through expedia for $55 and they did not honor it. They make you purchase theirs (which was actually cheaper in the end - $45ish) and then you must have liability insurance as well. You MUST bring your declarations page (printed or a PDF to send to them) when you arrive. If you dont have liability on your insurance policy then you also have to buy it there.Now for the hidden fees....They tacked on so many fees that it filled a full column on a sheet of paper. They charged you a fee for tolls, convenience, cleaning fee, literally anything you could make up to add value they added it. The total price went from the original $78 (on expedia) to a whopping $189. Its still cheaper than most but that was a blindside. They also dont tell you that they take a deposit of $500. Then refund you 3 -5 days AFTER the end of the rental.The good...? Yes there was some good that came out of itThe car was clean and full of gas. The representatives were friendly, they were not sarcastic or rude. Dropping the car off at the end of the trip was very easy. Once you get past the initial picking the car up and getting over the initial shock of the hidden fees its easy breezy. Just make sure to keep the receipt they give you that has the review of the condition of the car so they dont charge you for a scratch or bump that was already on the vehicle.Overall I would not recommend. I would stick to the traditional companies like Enterprise because what you see is what you pay for youre not caught off guard.I hope this review helps anyone considering this place for a car rental.

Was a little concerned at my prepaid rental, since there were one or two less than positive reviews. However, I had one of the best rental experiences ever, the car I rented was ready for me ( a Jeep, which was in high demand) and it was brand new. The bus was waiting for us at the airport, the office was quick and efficient, and on return Angela was super quick and efficient. I honestly can’t think of anything they could have done better - maybe they saw their previous bad reviews and worked on it or maybe they weren’t justified in the first place, either way, they were great and I’d definitely use them again.

Unbelievable... they tell you a price online and when you get to the place they basically make you pay A WHOLE lot more.

Worst place to rent a car. With full coverage insurance i still had to call my insurance agent to talk directly with them because they want to sell me theirs bringing the total way up. They show low prices but when you go to pick up the car !WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! NEVER AGAIN! Another thing prepare to be there for over an hour. Dont let them fool you!

The staff was so friendly and helpful and the prices were some of the best we found. We reserved a car somewhere else for $6/day +tax and fees so around $125 total. We went to pick it up and surprise more fees and toll passes and the total ended up being over $450!! We found popular Auto and all their prices are transparent. Toll fees were half as much as the other guys. We ended up renting a nice car for $145 for our whole trip! And they even told us if we brought the car back by a certain time they would charge us 1 day less! If youre thinking about renting here do it! They are the best.

Excellent we got a car after having no luck at Charlies car rental. Just remember, if you are coming from the US your car insurance covers you in Puerto Rico or better yet, call your insurance company to find out. This will shed some of your cost. If you use your car insurance policy and something happens, they will charge your credit card and then give you the invoice for you to make a claim to your insurance once home.

This is my first time with them. They professional, and have nice prices. Recommend to buy their tolls pass $4.95 (Excelent value). You need proof of insurance. This time they upgraded me from economy to full size.

I had read horror reviews form this place and I was extremely scared when we landed in San Juan. I had a lovely experience! I had everything ready for them with my insurance and I was in and out within 15 minutes. The shuttle took a while Both times but not more than any other rental place I’ve used. I would definitely recommend if you’re traveling on a budget. Also I am not 25 so it was great having a place that would rent to me ($5 extra a day but not bad honestly ) because some friends we met spent over $300 on Uber around the island and we didn’t even get close to that amount renting!10/10

I booked through CheapTickets. The facility was very kind, fast & reliable with an easy process. We appreciate the kindness and patience the workers had with us explaining fees, tolls and travels on the island. Price for a week was the best in the island.

Cheap rental car prices (via Priceline). You MUST bring proof of insurance with you or they make you pay for their car insurance. The shuttle bus picks you up from the airport (SJU) but it is fairly unreliable. Call them when you get there to ensure that it is coming soon.

Terrible service. Waited at the airport 45 minutes before the shuttle picked us up. Called the office 5 times and no one picked up. Finally, after the 5th time someone picked up and advises it was going to be another 15 minutes. We arrived at Popular Auto and the place was PACKED. Only 2 reps were working at the time. We waited another 45 minutes to get out vehicle. I am never renting a car here again.

The guys at Popular Auto did a great job helping me resolve a rental issue with minimal hassle. They were busy at the time, so I appreciated the help. While I was there, they were getting a whole bunch of cars delivered getting ready for the busy season, so they should have a nice fleet put together soon.

The shuttle never show up in the airport, we have to take a taxi to the location. After we got there there was only 3 people working there. It took about two hours to pick up our rental car.

We travel all over the world, and always rent cars as we travel and love to explore where we are vacationing at.This was by far THE WORST experience we have ever had at a rental place.We went in the office after being on a flight for over 7 hours.We walked in the office and there was a gentleman in there sitting down who didnt even greet us for the first 10 minutes.Be aware this place requires you to have your insurance declaration page. They will not take your regular proof of insurance cards like ALL other places. They do not tell you this when you first rent on the fox page. We complained about this particular location with Fox as we always rent with Fox but after this awful experience we more than likely will not.We waited about 1 1/2 hrs for the entire process as the individual who wasnt in a good mood was adamant about insurance declaration page. He was not helpful at all.Most rental car places will have your car ready with a full gas tank, this place barely had half a gas tank.When we were there he kept wanting to upsell us to their insurance even though we had full coverage through our own insurance and being American Express holder it also comes with protection. Keep in mind weve done over 100+ rentals this was not our first nor last.Anyways after it was all said and done, we realized this individual was the manager his name is Carlos Guzman and he had the WORST customer service we have ever encountered. Keep in mind most of the people who rent cars ARE tourist and in great spirits. Getting someone who seems like they do not like their job, in a bad mood, unfriendly and no customer service is not what people on vacations are trying to encounter.Like I mentioned next time we are in Puerto Rico we will make sure to avoid this place.

Excellent and fast service. Check out take less than 2 minutes. A variety of cars, vans,trucks, jeep. one of the most economical car rental. They should expand the service hour to 8pm. when enter to the office inmediately they asked me first if they had to take me to the airport. You can also separate the car online but if the car you are interested is not available on the internet it is better to call them and they surely have it.👌

Spend the extra money on a real rental car company. They are 30 minutes away from the airport, so forget early morning flights... unless of course you leave your car at the airport and pay $40 for them to pick it up. DO NOT USE... GO REPUTABLE!

Took an hr for the shuttle to pick us up. Called repeatedly to find out status and they (a female) wasnt helpful at all and even hung up on me. With my luck I think she was the same person who tended to me when I finally got to the office. She(I think her name might be Ana del Valle) did not offer good customer service which I think is highly important in business dealing with people. Seemed to be selling more bs than auto rentals. Gave it 2 stars because the guy who tended to me when I returned the car was polite. I dont recommend especially when theres soooo many other rental places. I hear Charlies car rental is good. I shouldve used them and they open 24 hrs.

Dont waste your time. Not worth it. The car was alright but everything relating to customer experience and financial additions that randomly show up are not worth it. Use your money somewhere else.

Be prepared to wait 2-2.5 hours for your car reservation.

Sooooo slow. Shuttle service came every half hour and couldn’t fit all the people waiting so it took over an hour just to get to the place (and we visited during the off peak season on a weekday). Looooong lines at the counter and the people working here were in zero hurry and really disorganized. Absolutely not worth it to save a few bucks.

Overall experiene was okay. Car was clean and as expected. A few things to consider when renting here. They are rather slow so if you are in a hurry picking up or dropping off be prepared to wait. Upon picking up a car, you must present a full auto insurance policy including your coverage and deductibles, not just your insurance card. Originally rented through Expedia and purchased the additional coverage so note, that coverage the rental agent claimed does not matter so just something to keep in mind. Upon payment, they charge your card $500 as they call a deposit, when you return the vehicle they refund you the $500 less the cost of the rental and any damages. Something to be aware of if you are traveling on a budget, as it will take about 10 days to refund. Lastly, ensure you check your vehicle for damage before leaving the lot and returning!

After waiting over an hour at the airport for the shuttle, we got a cab. We then waited over 2 hours for our van. The agents were pulling double duty prepping cars and servicing customers. Also note, you will need your insurance policy coverage, your coverage card wont do
