Ive gym hopped for a number of years and honestly this is by far one of the highest levels of personal training in the city. The facility is fantastic. Top notch equipment, and the whole place is sparkling clean.I dont often write reviews, but I suppose its the coaches who inspired me to share. Ive been training at Ethos for some time now, and the quality of coaching is the best Ive ever received. Its the kind of gym that not only celebrates your wins, it plans and tracks your progress as you aim for new goals. Definitely Recommend This Place.
I started personal training with Steve 9 months ago. I was feeling sluggish during the pandemic and burned out from virtual training, and I needed to make a lifestyle change. When I met Steve, I knew he was the perfect coach for me. Steve is professional, kind, patient, and fun! He provides a good balance of push and encouragement. And he’s always ready to make useful suggestions or adjustments to maximize results.I highly recommend Steve and the Ethos team for a personalized, effective approach to building a healthier future!
I worked with Jay Weedall to learn to use kettlebells over the summer.Jay is very knowledgeable trainer, both in terms of exercises and knowing how to teach them. He taught me everything I wanted to learn about kettlebell skills such as swings, Turkish get-ups, and cleans. Jay walked me through kettlebell skills step-by-step. He gave me the right amount of information at the right time instead of dropping everything on me at once and expecting me to figure it out on my own.Jay was also very responsive over email. He promptly and professionally answering any questions I had.Overall I had a great experience training at Ethos.
I have been an active member of Ethos for the last 8 months, working out with Steve 2x / week. I have been a member at several Boston gyms through the years but a comparison wouldnt be fair because Ethos is so unique. Working out in a spotless space with new equipment has been a welcome change. Getting to know the knowledgeable and welcoming staff has made working out fun again and eliminated insecurities that have followed me into gyms in the past. The disciplined approach to personal training has done wonders. Steve has customized my workouts so that they fulfill my personal goals while incorporating the Ethos philosophy, and most importantly, I can SEE/FEEL THE RESULTS!
Being active and trying to stay healthy and fit has always been a huge struggle for me. Almost two years ago I reached out to one of the coaches, Matt, about Ethos. My mental health was at an all time low and I knew I needed to make some type of change. From the minute I stepped into the gym, Ethos was welcoming, organized, and made sure to provide me with exactly what I needed. I have had the opportunity to work with Coach Steve since this past summer of 2020. We originally met online due to Covid-19 and a switch in coaches, and we clicked immediately. Even though its only been a few months, I completely trust Steve with my fitness journey. He knows how to gently nudge me so I push myself and dont give up, creates personalized plans, and makes sure we still have fun during our sessions. Its clear he genuinely wants me to reach my goals and believes in my abilities. Its not always easy to go to a gym as a woman, and at Ethos Ive never felt othered or treated as if I couldnt do something. As someone who always hated going to the gym, I can confidently say this was one of the best decisions Ive ever made, and the most consistent I have ever stayed with working out, all because of Ethos and Steve!
Training at Ethos has been a refreshing change for me. Since joining one year ago, I have committed to 3 weekly personal training sessions. During this time, Jay’s training and nutritional coaching has helped me stay focused and committed. His consistent improvements and redesigning of my sessions keep me progressing consistently resulting in increasing my ability to deadlift to 250 lbs without hip pain. Jay’s nutritional coaching has helped me develop a new understanding around strength training and the importance that nutrition plays in helping me get healthier. I have reduced my bodyweight by 10% in six months all while learning to make the right nutrition choices that support my progress in our strength training sessions. Since training with Jay, I have seen a marked improvement in my conditioning and cardiovascular health, reduction in my overall stress level, and noticeable increase in energy. I highly recommend Ethos if you are looking to establish a training and nutrition program that helps you develop the skills necessary to make life-long changes in your life.
BEST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE! I have been a member of Ethos Fitness + Performance through the pandemic after training at Ethos previously in 2016 (only separated by a move and no COVID induced virtual resources!). Having had a virtual and in person experience, I can say wholeheartedly that my fitness and overall wellness levels are so much higher when I train with them than when I have trained elsewhere. I would recommend Ethos to all of my closest friends and family.I currently train with Jess and do nutrition coaching with Jay - all while living in California. They have adapted so well to virtual training and I know that they have kept me on track to reach my goals during the pandemic. Previously, I was used to in person training and group fitness classes. But, Jess and Jay made sure that my training never skipped a beat. In fact, I feel stronger now than I did before.Jess and Jay work as a team to make sure that my fitness and nutrition programs will help me reach my goals. It’s so amazing to have coaches who get me and know exactly how to help me to reach my goals.
I have been an active member of Ethos Fitness+Performance for about a year, working with their coaching team 2x per week, in the semi-private training program.Prior to joining Ethos, I had attempted to get into a regular work out routine many times over about a 3 year period, trying out all types of different gyms/studios, and continually failed to keep motivated. I am in my early 30s and after 3 years of working out, more off than on, I knew that it was time to find something that I enjoyed and looked forward to in order to stay healthy.I decided to try out Ethos semi-private training and after the first day I knew I had made the right choice. Jay and Jess, and all of the coaches at Ethos are not only knowledgable and build out a program based on your goals and skill level, but they also have a ton of fun with what they are doing, and they make it fun to be there. The team really cares about you not only as a client, but as a person.I am thankful that I made the jump and joined Ethos. I have made a ton of progress over the past year, and even during a pandemic I was able to keep my motivation and train remotely with the Ethos team to keep up with my strength training. I highly recommend Ethos, its been an awesome year training with them.
I have always been apprehensive about working out, but I have never felt so comfortable at a gym than at Ethos. The entire staff is friendly, encouraging, and knowledgeable. The biggest thing that attracted me to Ethos is the constant focus on technique. My form and technique has improved substantially both in person and virtually. I appreciate the fact that I am being pushed to do my best, but in a warm and supportive manner. As a competitive volleyball player, I am finding myself getting stronger and more powerful. I am jumping higher, hitting harder, and having more endurance over the course of tournaments and days. My performance level is rising substantially, due in large part to the conditioning and supportive environment that Ethos provides.Initially, I was skeptical of virtual training, but Ethos does a fantastic job. I know that even virtually, I am being pushed to challenge myself while maintaining fantastic technique. I would recommend Ethos to anyone because they will help you reach your fitness goals, whatever they may be.
Ethos is THE BEST. I actually moved away from Boston a few months ago so sadly can no longer train at Ethos, but man am I missing it bad. I was fortunate to train at Ethos and specifically with Coach Joe for a little over a year and the skills I learned will be with me for a lifetime. I went into training not being athletic at all and over that year+ my skills, strength, and most importantly my confidence improved tremendously. All of the coaches at Ethos are incredibly gifted teachers and I never once felt embarrassed to fail in front of them. They always supported my growth and wherever I was in my own personal journey, and the environment never felt unhealthily competitive which was extremely comforting to me. Ethos is a safe, welcoming space and if you are in Boston, I promise you will not regret giving Ethos a try! I will forever be grateful for the training I received and the sense of community in a gym that I find myself missing today. I also greatly miss the many laughs Ive shared with coach Joe on a daily basis. Love to all of the Ethos fam!!
I love the personalized attention. The coaches are the real deal, always learning more about their profession and integrating new info into their programming. In 30 years of training, this is the best facility and team I’ve seen. Just the best.
Ive been a member for about two years and have loved every minute of it. I joined for their Semi-Private Training (SPT) program. You get a personalized program based on your specific goals that changes every 4 weeks as your strength, mobility, etc. improve. Training sessions are small - 1 coach to 3 trainees - which allows for individualized attention as you work your program. I loved my experience with ethos before the pandemic but have been blown away by their ability to pivot so seamlessly to the virtual world we now live in. They didnt skip a beat and while the experience is certainly different, the team at ethos made sure the programs are just as rigorous. They even outfitted us with borrowed equipment at the start of the shutdown to ensure we didnt lose any strength gains. The community theyve built over the years continues to thrive despite the limitations of social distancing!
I have been online training with Jay for the past few weeks and its been great. He provide tons of support and checks in on my program every week. I feel both mentally and physically stronger then I did before we started working together. Also the classes are really good and compliments the training really well.
I have been an active member of Ethos Fitness+Performance, working with their personal coaching team 2x per week, since they opened two and a half years ago in the South End. I have also taken several of the small group classes during that time. Jay and Jess have created a unique environment that is personally focused, respectful, collaborative, and encouraging.I started working out at Ethos because I was out of shape, constantly getting injured while playing sports I love (tennis and volleyball), and didnt know how to get better. I found that the knowledge and experience in the coaching staff not only got me into shape, but has taught me more about my body, its mechanics, and injury prevention. I not only feel stronger than I ever have before (at the age of 40), but now know how to keep myself healthy, limber and feeling good.Jay and Jess, and all of the coaches, have an amazing ability to inspire through personal connection, respect, and knowledge of their craft. Ethos is a calm, centered, learning and training experience. I train with Jay and love every session, even if its really challenging, because I know that he has tailored my training session and programming for me. To keep me on the volleyball and tennis courts longer, and to keep me strong, fit and injury free as much as possible. And I see each of the trainers addressing their clients needs and concerns in a similar way.I also love that Jay and Jess understand the importance of community and have been involved in local fundraisers and events, and encouraging participation by its members. Ethos has become a critical part of my weekly routine and has broadened my sense of community. Thanks, Jay, Jess, Joe, Matt and G!!!
This gym provides a welcoming environment and community. I like the program and the detail-oriented approach, provided through emails and PDFs, leaving you with much more information regarding your workout program. The process of building up your program bit by bit allows you to feel like you are involved in your growth process. The results you will feel after each weeks are absolutely wonderful. Youll feel it in your body if you skip a workout because the sessions are not easy, especially if you dont do them regularly.
I started training at Ethos almost a year ago and its been fantastic. All of the trainers, including my personal coach Matt, are easy to get along with, motivating and really know their stuff. Matt has been encouraging and enthusiastic and that makes working out fun challenge rather than a dreaded hour at the gym. If you want a positive experience with goals set just for you, this is the place.
Ethos is an amazing training facility. A welcoming environment where the trainers knows your name, always greet you and care about your individual fitness goals. Never before have I been so excited about going to the gym on a daily basis or at 7:00 in the morning! Oh, and they have amazing music!Ive worked out with Alex G. for the past 4 months and lost 15 pounds and gained lean muscle. Alex G. took the time to understand my fitness goals and understand what motivates me. He reviews my food journal and offers suggestions that work! His workouts are fun, but he makes sure my movements are correct to target the right muscle group. He is constantly bringing out gadgets to help me learn technique and movement.I feel amazing and stronger than ever as a result of working out with Alex G!
Going to Ethos is typically the highlight of my day. The coaches are amazing and so are the other members. Ive had personal training and the small group classes. Both are always challenging and fun. Its a well rounded atmosphere where all of your goals can be realized. 100/10 would recommend.
I am so grateful I found Ethos! I have been training with Jess for nearly a year, and I have seen such positive results with my strength and motivation. The team at Ethos has built a wonderful community, a place I am excited to visit each week. Before coming to Ethos, I was never able to keep a steady routine, but now when I travel, I find myself craving activity and I have even been able to recognize which exercises I should do to continue my training while I am away!! Jess is incredibly skilled in keeping my morale up and offering a wide variety of exercises that never leave me bored of the same old routine! Thank you Ethos, you have changed me in the most positive way!!
I have had Jess for a personal trainer for about 6 months now and wouldnt change a thing! I look forward to my session with her every week. Ive become stronger and Im a better athlete! Just completed my first Triathlon and with Jesss help and motivation I completed and felt great! The whole team at Ethos is amazing. Great atmosphere to work out at, be challenged, get stronger and make new friends along the way! Thanks Jess and Ethos!!
Ethos is a unique place because of the outstanding staff. Ive tried them all including the high-end places like Equinox and none of them compare to Ethos. When you are a non-professional athlete incremental success is hugely important and deeply motivating. No matter where you are starting from you are going to see consistent and satisfying improvements. If youre ready to finally make a change and get fit this is the place to make it happen.
Training at Ethos has changed the way I feel everyday. My trainer Jay (James) constantly teaches and motivates me to be better and work outside my comfort zone, by customizing my workouts to meet and exceed my goals. I would highly recommend their entire team and the way they do things.
I’ve only worked with Alex as a personal trainer for a couple of months and in that short amount of time it’s clear to me that he’s an exceptional trainer. Alex pays attention to form, pushes me to keep going when I have a moment of doubt, finds an alternative way to work the same muscle when I have a limitation, and keeps me motivated when I get frustrated with my progress. Alex listens to what my fitness goals are and helps keep me on track to reach my goals, both in the gym when we’re training and outside the gym with his tips about nutrition. And on top of all that he’s funny & personable! If you’re looking to work up a good sweat, build strength & transform yourself, you can’t go wrong training with Alex!
Only two months in and training with Alex G. at Ethos has had a huge impact! I found Ethos because Ive been overweight and felt unhealthy for too long. Thanks to Alexs personalized coaching and the other trainers support, Ive been consistently losing weight, improving my diet, and noticeably getting stronger. All of the Ethos staff and community members work hard to create an atmosphere that is as friendly and collaborative as it is challenging and fulfilling. I have always battled body weight issues, but for the first time I can remember I feel that I have a strong path to getting healthier and actually sustaining the improvements I make.
Ive been working with Jess at Ethos for the past four months and have loved it. For as long as I can remember, Ive struggled to stick with or enjoy a fitness routine but that all changed when I started going to Ethos in the fall. Jess took the time to get to know me and my goals and really learn what I need to be successful. Her training style has motivated me and resulted in me not only staying with it but truly looking forward to every session. She asks questions, understands what challenges me, pays close attention, personalizes my workouts and her approach to set me up for success - and goes above and beyond in helping to keep me accountable to my goals and commitments by checking in via text. She is so knowledgeable about technique, thorough in explaining how to do things correctly, why we do them and what muscle groups they target. Ive been really happy with the results Ive seen so far, feel stronger and more energetic than I ever have before, am committed to this work and look forward to continuing to see results. All of this, plus unlike other gyms Ive gone to in the past where Ive felt intimidated, Ethos has an amazing, inclusive and encouraging community with a friendly team of trainers that always make you feel welcome. I absolutely love it there and would highly recommend Ethos to anyone, at any level of fitness, who is looking for an awesome place to get healthy and fit, surrounded by great people.
Been meaning to leave a review for quite some time! I relocated to Boston about a year ago & was in search of finding a gym with a community. I came across ethos on yelp & it was the best decision I made! Prior to ethos I always found it hard to maintain a routine or find a work out that I really enjoyed. Since I started training at ethos not only do I have a routine that I enjoy but its the best part of my day! Kettlebell training is a great work out & a challenge I have grown to love! I have done both privates, semi privates & classes. They have all kept me challenged & keep me wanting to push myself harder! Lastly, I really love the community at Ethos! Every trainer is awesome & all the others members great! I have really felt like I found a home away from home (something I never thought I say about a gym!) If you are looking for a great work with great people dont wait, go to ethos!
I have been one of Jays clients for a year and a half now and every time Im there, as cliched as this might sound, I am inspired to be the best that I can be. The shear joy Jay experiences during our sessions is contagious. You cant help but have a good time when you train with him, no matter how much you are sweating. The guy clearly loves what he does and is very good at it. By the way, that is what you do at Ethos, you dont work out; you train. The entire staff takes you one step at a time to perfect your technique and make the most of your sessions. The other coaches and clients become your friends. The atmosphere is always professional, but there is a real sense of community with goals to achieve together, and a lot of fun to be had along the way. Its not called Ethos for nothing.
Ethos is more than your neighborhood workout place. They provide a welcoming atmosphere, listen and provide the guidance to help you with your fitness goals. This is the first time in my life that I look forward to working out!!!! Their trainers are super friendly and knowledgeable and they offer workout classes for all skill levels.Ive been working out with Jess at Ethos. She is fantastic at not only explaining the various exercises we do but also in encouraging me to really push myself. Jess has introduced me to Kettlebells and its been exciting to see my progress as we move up in weights and new routines. I always feel that she and the team are glad to see me when I get to the gym. While I am proud of my progress, I am even more excited to have found this place.
Ethos is the most positive, high energy, supportive, and fun fitness studio in the entire world, let alone Boston! The staff is wonderful and are the best at what they do. Ethos has made me enjoy working out, something I once made excuses not to do. 5 stars honesty isnt even a high enough review.Come join the best fitness family ever, youre missing out if you dont!
I have been training at Ethos for about 7 months under Coach Joe Riley. I was drawn to them by the convenience of their location, their unique approach to one-on-one coaching and the depth of knowledge the coaching team has in movement and nutrition. What has kept me showing up 3x a week are the results I have seen in my own fitness and energy levels, and perhaps more importantly the fun, inclusive and positive environment provided by Joe and the broader team.
I grew up surfing and doing extreme sports. When I moved to Boston I was worried I wouldnt be able to find a gym that kept me in shape and motivated. Ethos far exceeded my expectations! They have great kettle bell classes and their trainers help me focus on my goals. I have worked with Jess and Jay and they are amazing but I feel comfortable working with any of the trainers. They make sure my workouts fit me and that I will get the most out of them.
I came to Ethos about 10 months ago on a Gilt City voucher. I had never done personal training before, but I was looking for a solution to help me prep for my upcoming wedding and Ethos was in my neighborhood so I figured it was worth a shot. I was matched with Jess and from the moment I met her, I knew I was going to be hooked.Jess is the ideal coach in every way. She is both incredibly talented and enjoyable to work with (even at 6 am). I can go into a training session with her feeling exhausted and by the time I leave, I am energized and in the best mood. Jess has taken the time to really get to know me and to learn what I need to succeed. She has done an amazing job of creating a program that fits into my busy schedule and that targets the exact results that I want to see without ever feeling boring. Jess is very knowledgeable and has helped me to learn so much about form/technique and nutrition/working with my complicated dietary restrictions. Her workouts are always challenging, but never intimidating or discouraging. I am so thankful I found her and now I never want to leave.I have also been to a few of the classes and can say that they are excellent. Because they are kept fairly small, there is a lot of individual attention to form/technique. Jess and Jay have done such an amazing job of building a wonderful and supportive community at Ethos. I have been to many fitness studios in Boston and nothing compares in this regard.
Fantastic Place and Fantastic Personal Training. I travel often and make it a point to have a trainer in the city or town I visit. I found Alex at EthosFitness and making arrangements for the 3 day appointment was easy. The gym was great - accessible, clean, and the facilities are more than what you need for a workout. Alex was patient and took his time to understand my needs and check on my challenge areas - especially with regards to my mobility and strength. The next day, I had a program all lined-up. It was really enjoyable, challenging, and I didnt even notice the hour pass-by. I recommend this place and for people to set-up a session with Alex when you are in Boston. 5Stars all the way
I love Ethos! My husband has been training here since they opened, I was a little late to the party and a little reluctant initially because Ive never really enjoyed being at the gym - that said I was won over after my first session.Ethos is a very different environment than your typical gym. More than just friendly, its welcoming and warm, and a place people of all ages, shapes and sizes go to get healthier and stronger.Ive worked with Jess for a few months now, and my only regret is that I didnt join sooner. It is truly a personalized experience and even in this short time and with my crazy schedule Ive noticed the difference in how I look and feel. The attention to mobility, stability, and strength is unique and comprehensive. I couldnt be happier I joined.
I was a weak, 42 yo guy with an increasing list of joint and muscle injuries. Just part of getting older, I was telling myself. Wrong! The expert training and physiology know-how at Ethos proved that I need not be resigned to a self-imposed fate. 1 year after joining and doing a mix of private and group training, I am feeling the strongest and healthiest I have ever felt. This place is no joke and no gimmick, and they turned my life around. Shoulder pain: gone. Back pain: gone. Knee pain: much improved. I am back to playing volleyball, tennis, and cycling. I do sleep a lot more, but 3 hard workouts a week will do that to you. Dont be scared, call them, they are super friendly and have created a fun, encouraging atmosphere.
I absolutely love working out at Ethos Fitness! Ive worked with Jay for over a year now and see such a great improvement in my strength and endurance. Being a nurse with a crazy schedule Ive found it hard in the past to find trainers as flexible and reliable as the ones at Ethos!
Ethos in South End is a total gem. Coming to this place, working with a kettebell-focused program, and following through with consistency has yielded the types of outcomes -- in just a period of months -- most humans desire: greater muscle mass, lower body fat, and overall increase in strength. I train with Alex and he offers a wonderful balance of pushing you as hard as possible and listening to your goals.
Ive been coming here for almost two years, twice a week. I primarily work with Jay but have worked with many of the other staff members. All are great, though I assume its the caring, perceptive and masterful standards of Jay&Jess creating that atmosphere. In all my two years, Jay has not once looked away from, phoned in, or lost complete focus on transforming me in a way I didnt think possible. Hes a deeply compassionate person, inspiring me to be as invested in my well-being as much as he is. He fully expects you to take what youve learned and keep at it outside the space (hence the name Ethos, meaning more or less a lifestyle and worldview). I found Ethos through the StrongFirst website as recommended by Joe Rogan. I knew I would be using the most up to date, methodical science for strength and flexibility training. But I was surprised to find that I was rapidly reaching personal goals through a customized take on the way I learn, building on my strengths. That Jay would set standards and expectations and never once flinched, keeping me accountable with an irrefutably charming and determined bedside manner. The gym is the exact opposite of what Ive come to expect in a gym Boston. Make no mistake these are nerds in the best sense of the word. I know how to fix myself, take care of myself, carry myself and generally inhibit my body better both in and outside of the gym and cant thank the Ethos family enough.
Ethos is a tremendous community. The coaches as well as the members are supportive and care about each other doing the best they can do. As a 40 year old (former) athlete who struggles with my schedule and staying on track, the trainer I work with helps keep me accountable whether I am walking through the door one time that week or three times. He has tailored our feedback and tracking to meet my needs in a personal way that I have never experienced with another gym. While I enjoy 1 on 1 training, Ethos’ small group classes are my favorite. The diversity in each class is motivating. The ages, shapes and backgrounds of the members covers the spectrum, yet we are all highly supportive of each other and genuinely enjoy seeing others succeed. I highly recommend Ethos to anyone looking for a supportive yet challenging (scaled to the individual) environment. Wether you work with Jay, Jess, Joe, Gerilyn or Matt, you get the same personal attention and motivation.
I can’t say enough about the training and motivation from Ethos! I was humming along with a great trainer, Jay, and then unexpectedly had to have surgery on my thumb while healing a sprained ankle. Yep, a huge demotivator. Without missing a beat “Coach” Jay designed personalized workouts for me -- at Ethos and at home – for the three months I was out of commission. Now I’m back, fall is back, and I am back, ready to continue work on core strength, confidence, and my new personal goal, to be able to run a mile!
Jay and Brooks class has made working out fun again. After working out with Jay for the past year, I can honestly say his class has been a highlight of each week. Not only has my strength improved, but Ive improved as an athlete as well.
Ethos has built a great community around small group workouts. The coaches are excellent and focus on proper form and strength building. Im so happy I found this gym.
Always a fun and productive workout. I trained with Jay to help rid myself of pain from an old injury, the success that I achieved and the fun along the way was fantastic. At 55 Im in better shape than Ive ever been, and have learned how to train the most effectively. Ive seen the whole team in action, Ethos is the place to be.
I love training at Ethos! Its a supportive and fun environment. The coaches are great. Kettlebell training is awesome and a great way to stay healthy.
Imagine a gym where every time you work out, its like a personal training session, no more than 8-12 people in the class with everyone supporting and pushing each other, all led by exceptionally qualified, results oriented trainers. Jay, Jess, Alex, Matt, and Gerilynn are amazing at how they can motivate and push me just when I think I cant possibly l do one more rep or one more minute. Over the last year, I have gotten in the best shape of my life thanks to them. The classes are designed by the coaches to build and improve my strength and flexibility and each evening I leave the gym feeling stronger and healthier. They break down every training session, its physiology and the joints and muscles they affect. They focus on form and technique and explain and model every movement. They know every members strengths, our fitness goals, and when weve had a bad day and need that extra push. There is no other gym with this kind of commitment from the trainers to ensure the fitness progress and well being of its members.
I have worked with numerous trainers over the years. Finding James is a god-send. I have never experienced anything like this before. But keep this a secret. Hes just that good.
Jay & Brooks have changed my life. Ethos is a fun & challenging environment to stay motivated and reach your fitness goals. So grateful to have found this place!!
Super gym, super people. Ive been working with Jay for over 2 years, hes been amazing--getting healthy, losing weight, nutrition, fitness, all of it. But the whole staff is super friendly, too--really amazing place to rediscover your hidden animal!
Ive got all kinds of physical issues going on (bad knees, a bum wrist, bad ankles...the list goes on). However, the instructors just work with me and go with the flow - they provide a great (& tough!) workout, making sure I work out the same muscle groups as everyone else, just sometimes with a slightly different exercise. The strength Ive gained at the gym has been impressive, and yes, my pants fit better too.I also do Personal Training sessions with Gerilyn. Gerilyns expertise in physiology, coupled with a broad knowledge of different types of exercise (strength training & gymnastics, to name a couple), has made a great difference in my flexibility. She is upbeat, she knows when to modify, when to back off, and when to press forward. I highly recommend her for any personal training need.
Amazing group exercise class! Great studio and on point trainers who have the talent and skill to draw us out. Highly recommend.
Training at Ethos has really paid off, I am feel that I am in the best shape of my life - Ive tried many other gyms and played lots of sports- but nothing has given me the results that I have achieved at Ethos-also great staff and small group training make it even better.
I have been training at Ethos for almost a year with both Jay and Jess. My goal is to gains strength and muscle mass, which they helped me achieve. Both of them are very patient and are very good at what they are doing. The session is tailored based on individuals goal, and they really aim to get the best out of it. Training with them is just fun, and it makes you get stronger and feel stronger everytime.
The best small studio in boston. Family atmosphere. Supportive. Highly recommend.
Ive worked out with Jess several times in both private and group workout formats. I started with an academy class, which is similar to a group circuit training class. After Jess put us through what I considered to be one of the better boot camp classes in Boston, I was addicted. Aside from the workouts programming, I really liked her attention to detail - correcting form and providing us all with consistent cues throughout, which isnt something you find in many boutique fitness studios and gyms in Boston.Following that, I signed up for a few private training sessions with Jess. One area that I looked to improve, and where Jess and the other Ethos trainers excels and other gyms lack, was my kettlebell work. Its nearly impossible to find a good kettlebell gym in Boston, and what bell work other trainers and gyms do is often sporadic and not grounded in proper form. A few sessions with Jess will have you swinging more weight than you though possible - and help give you the body to match! The GymWhile located in a smaller space in the South End, the layout of the gym provides an optimal workout environment for both private, semi-private sessions and group fitness classes. The team does a really nice job managing the numbers in all their classes so you feel like youre getting enough attention and instruction to better your performance.
Ethos is sensational! As someone who is not naturally gifted athletically (to put it kindly), I have been blown away by the transformation in my intuitive understanding of good body movement, both in working out and in daily life. At the gym I finally get the mechanics of deadlifting, for example, or of Turkish getups or pushups or - well, the list goes on. And in daily life I now have an understanding of ergonomically correct movement when picking up large packages or pushing a heavy load on a wheeled cart or....I take the group classes, and the instructors are all superb - each different in style, personality, and methods from each other. This opportunity to be coached in the same fundamental movements by different instructors provides a benefit greater than the sum of their individual parts, for the complementary approaches together help one repeatedly reach that Oh, I get it! moment. Finally, both the members of the gym and the coach-instructors provide a supportive, enthusiastic environment that makes attendance a joy - not an oh, I should do this because I know it will benefit me kind of thing, but an Oh, good, I have class at 6 tonight to look forward to kind of thing. I literally cant count the number of times I have walked out of class with various members after class, each of us saying, Wow! That was great! Im so glad I come here! I would never go anywhere else.
Ethos Fitness has greatly improved my physical health. The gym focuses on a variety of kettlebell movements for weight training and cardio. I think what makes the gym unique is that they can tailor workouts to suit your needs, provide continuous feedback, and teach you the correct form to ensure you wont hurt yourself. I was suffering from neck/back pain with very limited range of motion due to my profession. In fact, my stiffness was so bad that I couldnt get into a squat position without having pain.Jess was able to create a specific workout plan to suit my body but also allow me to push myself. The first couple of weeks were tough and frustrating. I felt as if I couldnt do any of the movements, and wasnt improving. I had to retrain myself to understand what a good workout really entails. Slowly I started to see my range of motion and pain levels drop, and I can now enjoy group classes based on my learned skill set.I think what I enjoy the most is that the gym is relaxed and everyone wants to see you succeed. If you want to be part of a community of people who are just fun to be around and help you reach personal goals, then Ethos is the right gym for you.
I love training at Ethos. Working with kettlebells has increased my strength quickly and I truly enjoy throwing the weight around. My trainer, Jess, is motivating, committed to improving my strength and overall well being, very knowledgable, and has a great sense of humor that makes working out fun.
I am a rock climber who’s struggled for years to find a trainer who is willing to work with me to reach my goals in my sport. Few people understand that rock climbing is a full body workout that requires way more than strong arms including a healthy weight-strength-ratio, strong core, lots of stability, and a solid lower body. Over the years I’ve tried spinning, yoga (& hot yoga), running, and traditional weight lifting and nothing has helped me reach my goals as Ethos has. I’ve been climbing for 6 years and have always had two major barriers to improving my climbing; 1) injuries and 2) finding a healthy way to improve my weight-to-strength ratio. Ethos, and in particular their kettlebell training, has exceeded my expectations in both these areas. Over the last year of kettlebell training with Ethos I have stayed injury free, felt stronger and leaner than ever, and last week I sent my first 11b climb (almost 3 grades hard then I was climbing a year ago). I’m excited to continue to work with Ethos as we move into the outdoor season to protect and improve my body while reaching my climbing goals,
I love the feeling of community at Ethos--people are motivated and really supportive. And the trainers are having fun--that rubs off.
Taping brown paper over your windows to hide the fact that you are still carrying on inside during this crisis is not what I would call “doing your part”.
Ethos has the friendliest and most professional people. I started training with Matt at Ethos half a year ago and I am already so much stronger than ever. I have always been active and outdoors but my upper body was very weak- was never able to do a single pushup despite trying for many years, and it also limited me from progressing on sports I enjoy like swimming and surfing. I started to think that my body is just not built for that, but I am so glad I gave it one more try at Ethos.Matt (and every coach at Ethos really) is very good at tailoring the workout program to individuals need. I have never seen a single athlete at Ethos doing the same program as mine. Matt would also make adjustments to the days workout based on how I am feeling, and with that I hit a lot of milestones without being pushed over the edge. Ethos also takes a holistic approach to health - Matt would ask about my diet, my sleep etc which I really appreciate. I got some very useful advice on diet and it definitely helps with my progression. My first gym goal was to hit 1 pushup and 1 chinup after the first consultation session (it is free btw so everyone should take advantage of it). I thought it was impossible and more like a joke but he proved me wrong. By the third month without even noticing, I am doing my first 5 pushups after some 20 years!! Also weight is never a concern for me, but I start to see my physique changing. I gained more muscles and got rid of my tummy and love handler. Nice side effects to have.I would definitely recommend Ethos to anyone looking for a supportive, fun and resourceful environment to get stronger and healthier. And for those who dont, you should still go because Molly the dog is cute and Matt is known for his great music taste and Halloween outfit in the gym.
Ethos is the best! I love that the trainers push you hard, but they always stop and take the time out to make sure that you have proper form, that youre using the right muscles, and that you arent going to hurt yourself.I basically never worked out in my life until 2.5 years ago. I hate running. I also hate biking and I never thought that I would ever consider myself fit. I used to train at a large chain gym and the quality of the training varied a lot depending on who you got. While the trainers I happened to get there were good, it was nothing like the level of attention and quality of training that I get at Ethos. In a really short amount of time Ive learned how to lift/push/pull crazy heavy weights. I dropped a full pant size without ever focusing on losing weight. The trainers at Ethos push me to get better every week and theyre great at helping me set goals and then crush them. I also love that they offer 1:1 training and group classes because Im definitely competitive and when I see other people around me crushing goals, it makes me want to push myself even harder. In 8 short weeks Gerilyn took me from no pullups to 1-2 pullups. I honestly surprised myself at how strong I had gotten. I really thought it would be one of those goals that was like oh yeah 6 months from now maybe..., but Gerilyn pushed me to make it a very near-term reality. Her careful and nuanced training made all the difference! I would definitely recommend her as a trainer. She has an awesome positive vibe and its great to see that at the end of each workout she checks in with you to see what your takeaway from the days work is. It helps me remember to focus on all the finer things shes pointing out when I keep practicing moves on my own.Basically this gym is awesome, Gerilyn is awesome, and Ethos makes me feel great. I walk away with a whole bunch more confidence every time I go in.
After hearing about Ethos for some time, I finally took the plunge and signed up for some personal training sessions with Gerilyn. I am so happy I did!! Although Ive been a very regular gym goer for many years Ive noticed over the past few years that my motivation has waned and Ive been getting more and more bored. Ive tried to vary my workouts by trying out lots of different classes and fitness studios but nothing has really taken hold. Ive also been plagued by several orthopedic injuries which have left me super cautious about re-injuring myself. Working with Gerilyn has been a real eye opener with regard to both joint stability and injury prevention. Learning to use Kettlebells the right way is an art, and Gerilyn is a master artist! She is a stickler for proper form, making sure that one gets the move down correctly before launching into something that might be too advanced. I cant recommend Ethos Fitness enough! My next step there is to begin small group work. I am excited and eager to use my new found Kettlebell skills!!!
Great staff
