Louies Hair Cuts is a small business located in the heart of BUs campus. After moving to Boston in 2015, I was on the lookout for a trustworthy barber. I stumbled into Louies in 2018 - Ive been a regular customer of Louies every since.From the get-go, it was clear that Lou, Tyler (my barber), and the rest of the team cared. Tyler is always punctual and dedicates himself 100% to my cut when Im in the chair. Hes easy-going and the conversation we have is always an added bonus.The fact that Lou and the team care could not be more evident than in the past few months. The precautions that the shop takes exceed state recommendations. Customers wait outside before their cut. Upon entering, customers sanitize their hands, have their temperature taken, and answer a couple of questions ensuing its safe to enter. Once inside, everyone is required to maintain social distance. Hair is swept and tools are sanitized after every customer is finished, ensuring the shop is clean for the next customer.I have had my hair cut three times since the shop was allowed to reopen, and I am headed back this week. I can say with confidence that I feel safe when entering. I come here to get my side cut freshly shaven/lined up and a tattoo cut. Melissa does an excellent job. Compared to other barber places Ive been to, its a bit pricey but my regular stylist def couldnt do a cut and fade this precisely. Small shop, very few people in at the same time, felt safe with the COVID-19 precautions.

I rarely write reviews, but after going to Louie’s for 15+ years, it’s time to give Louie and his team the 5 stars they deserve. My two most recent visits have been since the shop reopened and they have done an amazing job of taking all necessary precautions to keep clients and staff safe while still providing the same ease of booking an appointment and the experience I have come to expect and look forward to every few weeks. As a freshman at BU I was nervous about finding a good barber shop near campus, then I found Louies.... Havent gone anywhere else since in my 4 years at BU and plan to come back any time Im in the city. Ive never seen anyone walk out of there without a great cut. Personally Ive had Tyler as my barber from the start. Tyler is skilled, confident, consistent, diligent, and a great person to just chat with - everything you could ask for in a barber. The owner, Louie, is a great guy who runs a clean shop and treats all of his customers like family. Anyone in the area should absolutely try out Louies for their next haircut.

This was from a few years back. I am still mad about my experience. I came without an appointment and they still cut my hair. The lady cut my hair and when I went back to my dorm, there were many strands of UNCUT, long hair. Was she blind? I had to redo my haircut with my own scissors. How can you guys charge $20+ for a terrible haircut??

I’ve been seeing Lou for a haircut since late 2019 and he really does a great job. Since they were allowed by the city to reopen after COVID, I’ve been pleased with their safety measures (full sanitization of equipment between customers, fresh gloves, fresh cape, masks on at all times.)Lou and his team are taking safety really seriously and it gives me more confidence that getting a simple haircut isn’t going to get me sick.

Ive been pretty reluctant to go out to stores, restaurants, etc during quarantine, but I feel completely comfortable with how Louies has handled this. In addition, the online booking system makes it super easy to book a timeslot and arrive right on time.

Didnt seem to care about what the customer thinks especially when asking the barber/owner to switch things up a bit

I cannot stress how much I enjoy a trip to Louies. Lou is a really friendly guy who knows his way around a head of hair and only picks the finest when hiring. Your head will be in good care and youll walk out looking great. A basic mens hair cut is $25 which is well worth it. If your in the area, definitely give him a try.

Among the lousy barbers in Boston, many of whom are not to be messed with, Louie is not one of them! He’s a good man and a family man and is not a schemer, unlike their neighboring barber shop which takes pride in extorting foreign students. Louie has a lot of skills with scissors. He’s given tremendous amounts of varying people different haircuts, he also has been very accommodating to people like me who are of the transgender community and wish for our hairstyles to look neither male nor female. I’m one of those people who gets nervous about finding the right place and the right barber to cut my hair. That said, I’ve gone to Lou for years because I trust him to give me a quality haircut each and every time. In fact, in my picture, I’d just gone to Lou to make sure that I looked the way I wanted to. This review is not just about the quality of the cut.The meticulous care that Lou and his team put into their haircuts has also gone toward their safety measures. Before I came in, Lou allowed the other customer to exit the shop, before sanitizing the chair and any surfaces that the previous customer had touched. All hair was of course, swept up and disposed of, and the cape used by the previous customer was taken away.When I got the signal to enter, I was greeted by Lou wearing a mask, with an offer of a squirt of hand sanitizer. Once in the chair, a fresh cape was used and Lou put on fresh gloves. Throughout, great care was taken to ensure not only a great haircut, but to work around the restrictions of keeping my mask on.A new card reader has been installed so customers never have to hand their card over and on the way out, I was offered another squirt of hand sanitizer.I’m writing all of this out because 1) I can’t imagine any more precautions being taken without impeding the feasibility of getting a haircut and 2) I really want Louie’s to survive.I get that people are still worried about the virus and I am too. But I’m also worried about the small businesses such as Louie’s where I’ve formed real relationships, not only with the businesses, but with the people who are those businesses, which is why I choose to continue to do what I can to support them.Even if you’re doing well right now, it’s hard to ignore a simple and central fact of where we are; we all need support of some kind. Lou and the team have done a great job of providing as safe an environment for their customers. My sense is that this is not a purely transactional move; the people that go to Louie’s are often people like myself, who have been going for years.I’ll share something that other people couldn’t possibly know. The day that the stay at home order went into effect, I was supposed to have had a haircut. Lou could have kept the appointment, but instead, I was emailed and texted an apology and sincere expression of concern for my safety. I really appreciated that. I hope that others who are weighing the risks of getting a haircut can appreciate all the effort of the Louie’s team that is going into keeping their customers safe.For some people, a haircut is just a haircut, but for me at this time, it’s one of the things that keeps me feeling grounded when everything else seems so uncertain. Lous shop is professionally and efficiently run. Even with that, it has a great classic barbershop atmosphere and high quality service. Haircuts are top notch. Lou takes the time to listen to what you want. You wont be allowed out of the chair until you are, and he is, happy with the work he has done.Time and time again in his shop, people can be seen coming in late, or trying to walk in on very busy days (which is every day there). I have NEVER witnessed rudeness in my 20 years going there, even in response to some flippant, ignorance on the customer side.This is a great small business, geared toward people that are looking for reliable, timely service. Ive been going to Lous team for about three years and have had several different barbers there. Everyone did a great job. I have medium-length hair for a guy and theyve always styled it well, incorporating elements of what Ive requested into a nice haircut each time.

Louies Hair Cuts is great! I scheduled my appointment online and received an email confirmation. The barbershop itself is peaceful -- music plays in the background, but theres not a lot of pressure for small talk. Sharline washed and cut my hair ($40 for a womans wash and cut). She was excellent. My hair is thick, curly, and long. She knew just what to do, and told me what she planned to do at every step in the process. She also answered my questions about different shears and styling ideas (note: Louies is a barbershop, and they dont offer hair styling services). Price is reasonable, the barbers know what they’re doing, and are attentive to your requests and preferences. This is and will continue to be my go-to barber shop!

This place is the best cut, people, and barbershop in New York! Been coming here for for about a year now! Can not say enough great things about this spot... I come about every 2 weeks and have yet to have a bad cut or something I didnt ask for! Mark and the team are extremely knowledgeable about what they do. Frankly I feel confident I could go to any of the guys and they would do amazing! However, I am a huge fan of Manny for his outstanding attention to detail, listening to what I ask( even if its crazy or in a photo or magazine) and always being awesome! Unfortunately, I am very disappointed with my most recent haircut which I got last week. This was not my first cut with Lou and he did a good job the first few times so I had trust in his abilities. My most recent cut, however, was clearly rushed and of very poor quality.1) long strands of uncut hair amongst areas which were cut much shorter2) one of my side burns was for some reason cut so its smaller than the other one (I dont think any of my barbers in the past cut my sideburns that way but I would expect it to be even on both sides regardless)Perhaps it would be better to take a few extra minutes to make sure the cuts are clean. The cut was no longer than 17 minutes total.Very disappointed because this is a convenient location but I will be trying a new place in the area next time around.

I dont understand what the people posting 1 star reviews are talking about. I seriously think theyre fake reviews. Ive been coming here for over 2 years and have had great experiences every time. Ive gone to Lou, Tyler, Christina, and Mike when he used to work there. All 4 of them have been fantastic; my favorite is Lou. You can tell he really wants to make sure you leave with a haircut you like and is very precise and careful.The cut I get is blended up the sides and faded in the back with the top long enough for regular scissors. Looks perfect every time.Thanks to Lou and the team!

At first thought it was good but as people were telling me about my hair honestly ruined my hair. As an experienced stylist I expected more. First experience of going to a barber at Boston never going here for sure again.

I came here about a month ago and got a good cut. Today i came back but it was quite a different experience. After my cut i noticed that my backside was not neatly done whatsoever, hairs were sticking up off of the top of my head and my sides where unevenly cut. Not gonna even start on the razor burn the hair dresser gave me on my neck. Very dissapointed and had to get my hair fixed at another shop. Thanks guys

Just had my first haircut with Mellissa, and I was beyond impressed. My hair is very difficult to cut well (very curly/frizzy/dry), and in turn, many barbers fail to shape the cut in a way that matches the structure of my head. Not Mellissa though; she was super receptive to my input upfront (ex. using scissors over razors), and did a fantastic job. Will definitely be back.

Ive been going to Lou for over ten years. I started when I was a Freshman at BU. This is by far the best place to go in the city. Ive gone to a few places if Lou is booked, or on vacation, and Im in a pinch. Not a place in the area compares to the service and price. This is def not the place for over privileged pre Madonnas (you know the type.. see recent review.) That being said- you cant ask for a nicer person... Hes a true Greek American; Hard working and appreciative of all his respectful customers.
