All they do is trying to rip you off. I sent my car to do the state inspection. They failed it and said my parking brake was not working and passenger side muffler is cracked. They quoted around $1500 to repair these problems. It is ridiculous because I kind of know car mechanic and I am pretty sure the parking brake is working and there is no problem for the muffler. They are definately unprofessional. Then I took my car to a auto shop in Christiansburg and it passed the state inspection with repairing nothing. You cannot fool me because I am a student. Do yourself a favor to shut down your shop and leave Blacksburg without scams.
Ive taken my cars to these guys for over a decade now. I trust them completely, they always go above and beyond, are willing to work within my budget, and are great for suggesting when something ought to be done soon vs when something needs to be done immediately. The customer service is superb. My dad (who worked as a mechanic for a while) approves, and is very happy that I was able to find such a reputable and honest shop while I was a student here.
Needed my AC fixed before a road trip. A friend recommended South Main Auto Service. They were fast, friendly and reasonably priced. Ive since used them for oil changes, tire rotations and tpms issues with the same results.
Went to them to have them adjust the position of my exhaust and they exceeded my expectations. I didn’t need to wait several days for an appointment, they positioned it exactly how i asked, and the pricing was extremely reasonable compared to other places I talked to. And on top of that, they went above and beyond and messaged me a few days later to confirm that everything was OK with my car. Amazing customer service.
Checked the engine oil level through the car computer, then charged me $50???Response to the seller: I have already been charged for the state inspection fee, it was $20. The $47.5 is additional. You need one hour to check the tire pressure and oil level through my car computer?? Sorry, I can do that for 1 minute.
Poor tire balancing job. My car has several big pieces of weight on different locations on each wheel. The worker did not remove the old weight on each wheel.**follow up:I send an email to the email from the owners reply, they never respond to me. if you do not care about customer, do not try to fake you care about us.I will never come to here again!
Best service I found in the area. They dont charge you when they dont have to & when they do you might pay a few bucks more but its quality work every time.
The staff is really friendly and I had no delays in getting my tires done from this place. Its a little pricey though. David definitely knows his Mustangs so if you drive one and have car issues, definitely ask for his help!
Knowledgeable mechanics and very friendly. They treat you with respect and go the extra mile to make sure youre taken care of.
They charged me triple what a car battery costs to replace mine (not including additional labor cost). If u have social anxiety and have a hard time standing up for yourself like me then bring a friend who can channel their inner Karen.
I recently was very fortunate to find South Main Auto.Having need of their services more than once for two vehicles.Every time the entire team was most professional, courteous and competent. They were always upfront with any issues, willing to answer questions and more than fair with cost.If you have a need for any of their services, I highly recommend you give them the opportunity to serve you as well!Thank you South Main Auto.
Excellent service at a great price! Ive been a client of theirs for years!
Terrible place to take your vehicle for inspection or anything else ! They only worried about making that $$$$ WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN! I Suggest no one Else do either! They are a RIP OFF!
South Main Auto has the best service! Ive been going there for over 4 years, because their service is awesome. If there is an issue with your vehicle they fix it. If you buy tires from them (at a great price) you get a free rotation with every oil change. Theyre oil changes are Very reasonable. Customer care is unsurpassed. Great and caring people.
I have a2019 Mercedes-Benz and they do the same maintenence list that the Dealer does at 40 percent less.I been dealing with South Main for 10 years and never had a complaintI highly recommend them and my wife has a 2017 Lexus 450H and do all the service work on it to unless its warranty related
Very professional and polite! Had my run flat tires changed and an alignment. The guys did a excellent job. I’m a very pleased costumer. I’ll be back. Thanks for great service.
Took great care of me, didnt push services, and the final price was $130 LESS than the initial quote. Most places would just pocket the extra.
The service is terrible. I made a reservation for an inspection one week ago. I got up early and when I arrived, they told me that they don’t have any reservation for me with no reason explained. I am 100% sure I have called and made the appointment and they even asked me which day I would like to pick. I don’t know why they didn’t book up my reservation and made me come uselessly. They were so unconcerned about their customer and never helped to solve the issue. Never go back and there were plenty of other options in blacksburg!
Staff and work quality is top notch. You wont find a better shop anywhere. From a tire to an engine that is the garage to go to.
I went there to change oil of my car. They charged me around 80$ for full synthetic oil and put a warranty sticker of 5000 miles on my car windshield. After 3000 miles drive, my car indicator was showing low level. I went there again to refill it, there was not any leakage from my car, oil burnt due to heat only. The old man at the reception charged me 20$ to refill it. All other auto shops in Blacksburg refill it in case car if it comes under warranty.1) The old guy at reception was very rude and mean person. He does not know how to talk with customer.2) He did not call me before charging for oil refill.3) Dont expect your car will ready be in less than two hours, does not matter at what time you go there. Always prepare to drop your car there. Not going there again. Not only they charged me extra money to refill the oil but also rude behavior of an old guy at the reception.
I was visiting my son at Va Tech and I accidentally hit a curb that left a plastic piece hanging from my car. I was leaving to return home and stopped into South Main Auto Service and they squeezed me into their schedule. I was so grateful they were kind enough to help me out. Great service and great customer service. I highly recommend them.
They are always so nice. So far I havent had any issues and Ive been taking my car there for years. And I love the bird!
Been going here for years now and my car is always well taken care of
First time here. Needed my state inspection and they got me all taken care of in less than an hour. Everyone here is super courteous and friendly... welcoming and helpful. No upselling or pressure. Just great service. I will definitely be back!
I was in Blacksburg on work when my car started making noises like it was going to explode. I didnt think I would make it the hour long drive back home, so I called the first mechanic to pop up on google. They got me in immediately, were extremely quick in telling me what was wrong, helped me work out the previous warranty I had on the parts (I hadnt even considered having a warranty until they discussed it with me, it saved me a couple of hundred dollars), and had the part delivered to the shop and the repairs done all within 2 hours. I miraculously was out and made it back home before dinner. I couldnt be more pleased with how friendly, quick, and fair they were.
Very nice guys. Worked my truck in on a SAT then used some automotive ingenuity for a temporary fix since parts stores were closed.
I dropped in to South Main Auto on 01/22/20 to enquire about getting an oil change. The guy that I spoke to said they could get it done that evening before close and if I couldn’t make it back in time then they would leave the key in the vehicle and charge a credit card on file. He said they would call me when the work was done. Sounded too good to be true and it was. I didn’t receive a call and so when I went to pick up my car I made sure to take the spare . When I got to the shop there was no key and no oil change. When I returned to the shop the next day I asked for the key and didn’t receive an explanation, an apology or an offer to complete the work at a later date. An all round terrible experience with poor customer service. I can’t comment on the quality of work performed because they didn’t bother doing anything. I won’t be going back.
My daughter is a student at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. It is nerve wracking to have car problems when Dad is so far away. When my daughters car wouldnt start, we asked for recommendations for a reliable shop. South Main Auto was at the top of the list. I called and talked to David. He listened carefully to my concerns and gave me an estimated cost of repairs. When it was done, they came in under the estimate. The owner texted a couple of days later to check on the car. That is above and beyond for service! Thank you David and Scott for being my daughters surrogate dads!
Came in for an oil change and tire rotation. Was told it would be about an hour. Two hours later, the man at the front desk publicly criticizes me in front of his associate and customers for not allowing them to install an air filter. Just because Im a student doesnt mean you can try to take advantage of me. Tires were not even rotated. Thats all I need to never come back.EDIT: I followed up with sending them an email as they requested below. After 7 days, there is no reply. If a business puts in the effort to address a customers concerns, I will respond, if only to prove my review isnt biased and give them a chance to resolve a bad experience with courtesy. It seems that they would like to be *perceived* as addressing customer concerns instead of actually doing so. If customer service is of no importance to you, do not make it seem so.
Super happy w/ these guys. I know my way around cars and have found them to be honest and proactive suggesting items they find, but not being pushy. Fast service and quality work. Pricing is normal, standard for a shop. ( and I am kind of cheap ) David, Allen and Scott have taken great care of our aging vehicles w/o breaking the bank. We also bought a full set of tires and were pleased w/ the result.
Great service. Awesome people. Fair pricing. They really work with you to keep you safely on the road.
Professional and courteous, costs are usually better then other places.Honest and stand by their work, had ball joints replaced there and later in the year took my car there for an inspection, they noticed a joint was loose and fixed everything under warranty, even though they could have just ignored it and I would have been none the wiser. Went out of their way to correct a bad part they received, which wasnt their fault.Would also like to say that when I had my ball joints replaced there, they were the cheapest place by far, and actually used name brand parts. In summary, the best place in Blacksburg to take your car, just know that they are thorough and have high standards for vehicles and parts, so they will tell you whats wrong with your car, but thats actually a good thing.
I just had my air conditioner repaired. They did the work quickly and for a fair price. The guys were a pleasure to speak with. Will go back if the need arises.
Positive experience here. Got the work done in the amount of time they said they would. Answered questions and communicated throughout the process. Prices seemed reasonable although I did not check prices anywhere else.
Ive been taking my vehicles here for over 20 years. Very good professional service. Repairs are done right at a reasonable cost.
Thorough and quality work but for a price. Friendly staff who were patient and willing to explain the work they were doing. Great hours and convenient courtesy shuttle. Would recommend to those who are gainfully employed.
Made an appointment for a state inspection. Waited an hour after showing up when I was supposed to. Failed inspection because an exhaust gasket went bad. Okay, thats fair, I drive an 87.. things are bound to break. They told me the gasket isnt sold anywhere and theyd have to make a custom one and install it for less than $100. That is the most incorrect statement of the year. Exhaust gaskets are a pretty universal part regardless of the car in question. Exhaust pipes only come in a few different diameters. I drove a 1/4 mile down the road, bought the parts myself for $10. Ran into a nice fellow from Moores Body and Mechanical Shop while in the store. I was unaware they did state inspections. After talking with him I will happily pay full price to get re-inspected at a legitimate shop where they actually care about the cars they are servicing. I do not recommend the inexperienced South Main Auto Service for anyone who needs work done.
Excellent service! Brought my daughters car in for a same day state inspection. It could not have been a better experience.
Great service, great staff very friendly, my first visit with Josh and Allen impressed me a lot. I would definitely recommend South Main Auto Service. These bad reviews Ive been reading dont make any sense to me these guys know what they are doing. South main auto service is definitely a five star
Great service. Fixed my vehicle for free. Had gotten a oil change from Jiffy Lube and the undercarraige plate was not attached. I was from out of town and they helped me out by fixing it for free. I am blown away at their kindness. I would highly recommend this garage.
Go here for an oil change but nothing that involves them doing intensive work on your car. I got an outrageous quote for getting upper and lower ball joins replaced for both front tires. Ended up going to Snappy Lube for a much more reasonable price and they seemed a lot more honest there.
Would never return here or recommend it to anyone. My car wouldnt start and I had it towed to them, they told me it was a problem with my starter which is about a $450 fix. I had them do it, just for my car to die again the next day. Clearly the starter was not the issue. Took it to another shop who told me my battery was fried. Easy $100 fix. Who screws over a young girl in college in Blacksburg of all places? Dont come here unless you want to get screwed.
Great place to deal with, very nice and professional. Have experience getting two alignment services done here and have zero complaints. One of them was for my senior design project at VT, and David worked with us and helped us set the car up to our desired specs!
This is the best place to get your car worked on! It is a friendly environment thats family owned and operated. My family and I always use the SOUTH MAIN AUTO crew for our auto services. great quality work, always great experience and the more you go the more you become part of the extended family. so if your having car problems go see the guys at SOUTH MAIN AUTO SERVICE and tell them Glen sent ya. They will always take great care of you and your vehicle no matter what.
The staff are friendly, the service is fast, and the prices are very reasonable! I have used South Main Auto for car maintenance needs for years, and have never been disappointed. If I need maintenance on my vehicle and must be on the other side of town within 15 minutes, the crew will gladly shuttle me to my destination for free, and get me back to the shop at my convenience to pick up my vehicle! Hands down I recommend South Main Auto!
After more than 13 years of taking vehicles to South Main Auto, I am way past due for posting a review. David and crew have always taken excellent care of our cars and truck, not once tried to up-sell or suggest services that were unnecessary. This week was a perfect example! The old truck had a squirrelly problem with the electronics, or the battery, or something both hard to describe and unseen before by the tow service that came to fetch it and haul it in to South Main. They could have told me almost anything, and I would have believed them. But, in just a few hours, they called to tell me it was ready to pick up — repaired, serviced and inspected. When I came to pick it up today, the entire charge was well under $100. A bargain for the piece of mind. Everyone has always been friendly, respectful, informative and qualified. Just exactly what you want from your automotive service provider.
So, they charged me $900 dollars to fix an overheating problem with my 2005 Honda CR-V. They told me they had to replace my solenoid. The 2005 CR-V does not have a solenoid, I just had a leaky hose to my radiator. These people are criminals preying on college students. They are scamming you right now.
South Main Auto consistently provides outstanding service to my wife and I. Their shuttle service is such a unique feature and helps us out a lot when we need to drop our car off during a work day. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone in the New River Valley looking for high quality service and an excellent customer experience.
One star for dishonesty. I asked them to complete a mechanical check on my car and was told my control arms with ball joint have to be replaced before I go to highway. $450 is charged for fixing the problem as well as $300 for changing two front tires (I dont see the necessity at all). I felt the price is too high so I went to another mechanical shop. They check the problem for me again for free and told me my control arm and ball joints are totally fine. My later drive for five hours on I81 proves my car is just fine.---------------- The following is added after reading owners reply -----------First of all, I just want to repeat the fact that the owner strongly suggest immediate repair of the ball joint problem, for $450. They didnt show any desire to show me the problem. Whether it is a problem is still questionable, not only because another store told me I dont need to worry, but also because my car runs well in the recent two months, going through five long distance trips.Second, the owner mistakenly assumes I try to cover the problem and sell my car. The question is how I can cover the tail light or the tire problem to anyone if the problem is really serious.
Check engine light came on and brakes were squealing. Dropped my car off on Friday evening on my way home from work, it was ready by mid-morning Saturday. They took the time to take the wheels off to check my drum brakes in back (just a rough spot, they were fine), cleared the code, and drove it around to see if the light came back on (it didnt). Very thorough but charged me almost nothing to get it checked out. Did a great job with my new set of tires too, price was right in the range I expected.
I always get my car serviced at South Main Auto Service! They go out of their way to make it a pleasant experience to get your car repairs done. They also go out of their way to help you when you are away from home. I had an alternator fail near Indianapolis during the spring, and they helped me to find a repair center to get it replaced under warranty at no charge. I appreciate all they do for me and I will always use them for service. Their shuttle service is a big help, as they will drive you where you need to go while repairs are being done. I always get great mileage on my tires, as their alignment service is the best!
I really wanted to like south main auto... They are right by my work and have a shuttle service that can take me there when I drop off my car in the morning.I took my car in to South Main Auto Service for an oil change and a VA inspection, dropped off my car and got a ride to work... this was the end of my good experience at South Main Auto...I had a co-worker who told me they would take me to south main auto if they were done by 2:00, so around 1:30 I called just to inquire about the progress of my car. They told me it had finished (I dont know why they didnt call me? Lets assume they would have eventually). They proceeded to list of many problems with my car (My car is older, this was expected but I knew that I didnt need to be concerned with most of the problems they were listing). I asked if my car passed inspection and they told me that I never asked for an inspection... Maybe I spoke too softly at the desk and they didnt hear me ask for it... whatever... I ask on the phone if they can go ahead and do the inspection, he tells me it will fail because my third break light is out... I dont want to deal with another inspection so I just tell him to go ahead and fix it and he says he will.About 2 hours later I come back and find they havent taken my car back yet, when I ask at the front desk about it they tell me that I never requested an inspection... I guess my phone call never made it to anyone... I request the inspection be done and they tell me they can fit me in, great.About an hour later they call me to the front desk and tell me I failed inspection because of the third break light, I ask them to put a bulb in and he says he cant because Its an LED strip, we need to order a new one and tells me that it will cost over $100. I take the rejection and go home to order the part and put it in myself (knowing I can do it much cheaper). When i get home I cant find the part online... the reason being... it doesnt exist... my car doesnt have any LED lights on it and I feel stupid for not realizing how strange it would be to have a single LED break light on my 2007 Honda Civic when I know the rest are incandescent...I pop a spare bulb I had on hand into the break light in 30 seconds and it works perfectly fine... they were going to charge me over $100 for thisI spent the next 9 days trying to get my car in for a re-inspection and being turned away each time (even though Virginia Law 19VAC30-70-60. states that they are required to fit in a re-inspection without delay or within the reasonable completion of the current job...) I heard so many times that they were full and couldnt do the re-inspection because the paper work takes too long... I actually called them later after they told me they were full and asked if I could get my car in for an oil change and they told me they could fit me in... Today I got here right when they opened and they told me there are 15 cars in front of me (Even though yesterday they told me they are first come first serve so I dont know how people got pre-scheduled when they told me I couldnt?) but I heard them tell another customer that came in after me that there were 4 cars in front of him...Im under the impression they dont want to do my re-inspection because Virginia state law says they can only charge me $1 for it and thus will not make profit for the time doing my re-inspection... thats not really my problem, thats a cost of doing inspections.. but they have been making it my problem for almost 10 days now. Ive been tempted to print out 19VAC30-70-60. with the passage Furthermore, if a vehicle returns for reinspection within the 15-day period, the rejecting station will reinspect the vehicle without delay or at the reasonable conclusion of the current inspection being performed. highlighted in bright yellow... But I dont like the idea of making a scene. They are also now refusing to allow me to use the shuttle anymore because they dont allow it for re-inspections apparently...I really wish I could have liked this place... it could have been so great...
Very competitive prices and the staff is friendly and helpful. They also provide a shuttle if your car needs to stay for a while. I moved to Blacksburg 2 years ago and have been taking my wifes car and mine to south main exclusively. They dont try to charge you for any unnecessary work or parts like some places do. Ive never been unsatisfied with their work, easily the best automotive repair shop in town.
Called them regarding engine overheating. They asked me to come over only to refuse service after arriving. Even that is admissible considering they didnt have a call back number to call and inform. However the manager was extremely rude and asked me to leave the car and take the bus and go home. Not even a courtesy drop ( given that they know my engine is running hot). I would not recommend them because of their poor customer service
I have been getting our vehicles serviced at South Main Auto Service for over 25 years and have always received timely, accommodating, and knowledgeable service. I really appreciate the detailed explanations regarding service needed for our automobiles. Also when we are traveling and have a vehicle problem we can always call in and get advice which is invaluable away from home!
Excellent communication; helpful over the phone when choosing the best tires for my car, selecting services, and getting price estimates. Seemed honest and upfront. Convenient shuttle service for drop off and pick up. Id go back again if I needed more work done.
South Main Auto Service has always done well by me. They tell you the truth when inspecting your car. They tell you whats recommended and whats needed. After having my car serviced and checked out by South Main, I know more about cars because theyll explain any problem they come across. I just wish I had found these guys sooner in my undergraduate career at Tech, because knowing about a reliable auto repair place in town helps out immensely.
Very professional and friendly service. Quick turnaround and fair pricing.
My car broke down a few days before thanksgiving break. My car was smoking and the battery light came on. I assumed it was the serpentine belt, so I got it towed overnight and left a voicemail with my theory of what happened. They called back at 8am the next morning, explained exactly what was wrong, breaking down each price point. They agreed to talk to my parents as well, and explained it to them. They got all of the repairs done within the day, and suggested additional repairs to be done after the initial need was met. They didnt push anything on me, and agreed to do the most minimal repairs. Overall, I had a great experience without feeling cheated. They are quick, friendly, and offer a free shuttle service! Also they really know their stuff.
South Main Auto was wonderful! I was way overdue for an oil change, but nowhere in town could fit me in. It was 3:30 PM and I had to drive to Norfolk that night. I was nervous to drive so far at night with such little oil left in my car. Even though they were too busy to give me a full oil change, Josh looked at my oil gauge and added enough so that I could make it there and back. All of this was completely free of charge. I returned for the full oil change when I got back into town, and they were still very friendly and accommodating. Thank you all for giving me peace of mind during my trip! My boyfriend was deploying, and you gave me one more weekend with him before he had to leave!
I only had our Tesla Model 3s tires rotated, but the services was excellent and the price reasonable. Its reassuring to know that this shop is familiar with Teslas vehicles and that they dont overcharge the customer.
I have used South Main Auto the entire time I have lived in Blacksburg. I have always felt that they gave me honest evaluations of any issues that needed to be resolved and gave me multiple ways to address them. I always have my oil changed there, my tires rotated there, and my inspections done there. When I went car shopping I stopped in to ask them their advice, which they gladly gave me. The guys that work there are consistent through the years, and that gives me a solid feeling about the business as well.
These are my go to auto guys here in Blacksburg! Most shops either run away from my Porsche, or charge me double because of the badge! Not here! The staff is super friendly, one gentleman up front even brings in his Parrot! Prices are competitive and super fair, Ive had an alignment done for $70 and just had my suspension looked over for a vibration for only $20. Definitely reccomend!
I had a good experience getting my classic car inspected. They found an issue, but had me come out to take a look and even allowed me to suggest a fix. They involved me in the process and I left feeling I could trust them. The folks at the counter also give good and knowledgeable advice.
My low tire light came on unexpectedly today so I visited South Main Auto for assistance during lunch without an appointment. Josh checked the pressure in all the tires, added nitrogen and even suggested that we check my spare tire in the trunk (which he discovered was greatly in need of air). He saw that my front bumper was loose and fixed it for me while I waited. David, Allen and the SMA team are always helpful and have quickly resolved any issues and concerns that I bring to their attention related to my vehicle. I really appreciate the shuttle that they provide which makes maintenance visits much more helpful and convenient.
Excellent and honest service, they resolved my issue very quickly and finished before the estimated time. The staff was very friendly and very welcoming. Any future vehicle work I need will be done here.
I recently took my car to South Main Auto due to my driver side door not closing. The guy at the front desk was extremely friendly and very helpful! Always welcoming and nice when I go in for car maintenance!
Friendly place. Good service. Can depend on good workmanship on my car. Never a doubt about my car when it leaves there.
Great service, courteous folks from start to finish. Prices were at expected level. Incredible customer focus.
South Main Auto is very friendly and honest. The technicians are very straightforward about anything your car needs, and are not trying force unneccessary repairs just to make money off of you. I had to get my car inspected, and was provided with a shuttle from campus to pick up my car after the inspection. This was so convenient, and allowed me to carry on with my day, rather than having to sit in the shop all day waiting for my car.
Great staff fair prices and quick service. Also offered to shuttle my wife to work and back when work was done. A+
We have been exclusively going to South Main Auto for all of our vehicles for 25 years. Needless to say we have been very satisfied with the attention and care that the staff and technicians bring to our car care.We recently had our Subaru outback in for new tires and because of the 30 point checkup that is routinely done at no charge, we were notified that the oil level was 2 quarts down in spite of an oil change just 1,000 miles earlier. The vehicle had been out of state and had an oil change without the High Mileage Pennzoil that had been used for all the changes at South Main Auto since it started using oil after it passed the 100,000 mile mark. Our son drives the subaru long distances so discovering this problem before it became an emergency on a dark, cold, snowy night five states away is an example of the thoroughness that we can count on at South Main Auto
The service was excellent! These guys are professionals and super hospitable while you wait. I usually shop around to make sure Im paying the right price for my car services, and no one beats South Main Auto.
I check my car there and the people is so nice. They not only recommended the parts I need to change, but also show to how to find problems like when to change engine oil, how to check all the staff in my car. Josh also help us fix the wipers without any charge. I have a nice experience there.
Went to have break pads replaced; ended up needing new rotors too. At first I was unsure that it was a necessary replacement but they took me back in the shop, showed me what they were looking at and answered all my questions. Very friendly staff and they even offer a military discount.
I went to the service today, coffee was very good and they help me a lot with the inspection. They really care about their customers. Josh was very friendly and helpful.
If you dont know much about cars then dont take your car here, this shop is dishonest and tries to prey on peoples ignorance. (I would give a 0-star rating if possible)--- --- --- ---They failed my safety inspection for a bad serpentine belt & tensioner puller. They said Im surprised you havent heard it making such a loud noise. I was suspicious because I had not heard anything before. I went to check it out & the belt was in good condition (no cracks or wear) and the pulley was in a good condition (no sideways movement), & there wasnt even any sound. I asked the mechanic to show me the issue, and they were unable to identify the faulty belt, pulley, or noise. I went to Christiansburg to get the car inspected, and they laughed when I told them my car failed due to the belt/pulley. The Christiansburg mechanic said South Main Auto Service was fishing for work, and I agree.--- --- --- ---If I were South Main Auto Service and I sincerely believed that the condition of the belt/pulley was suspect, I would simply advise the customer to keep an eye on it. In my case, it simply did not need to be replaced and was not in a condition of imminent failure.--- --- --- ---Ive had poor experiences with Blacksburg mechanics trying to prey on college students who may not know a lot about car repair. I do not recommend taking your car to a shop in Blacksburg. Ive had the best experiences with Christiansburg mechanics because they are much more transparent and show me the faulty parts, and give there honest opinion about whether or not something needs to be repaired now, or can be repaired later.
My husband and I have been taking vehicles of varying makes and ages to South Main Auto for over 20 years. We have always been impressed by how thorough the are and how willing they have been to discuss problems and show us what they are looking at, as well as to advise us as to whether the problem needs to be fixed ASAP or not. Their prices have been fair, and on the few occasions that there have been continued problems (as certainly can happen with old cars; my Subaru currently has over 300,000 miles), they have been more than willing to fix the problem. Thanks guys and we hope youre there for a long time!
I will give a 0 star if I can. What a nonsense place! They even try to cheat you every penny in your wallet. For example, they will charge you a lot of money to fix all the unreasonable staffs. Services is good but it wont help if they are cheaters. I will never recommend anyone to go there anymore...
I have been going to South Main Auto for seven years now. Im also fairly comfortable working on my own vehicles when it comes to regular maintenance. The thing that keeps bringing me back to this shop is their thoroughness and professional approach. The experience that convinced me of this is when my then girlfriend (now my wife) brought her 1997 Chrysler LeBaron in for a tune up. This shop called us back and informed us that her fuel tank had a rusted out hole on the top of her fuel tank. She had just been passed for an inspection by another shop... I didnt believe it at first, but the mechanic let us look at the fuel tank. Seeing was believing. If you need a professional mechanic crew to work on your vehicle and want the job done right the first time come to South Main Auto. The four star rating instead of five is because its usually a bit pricey here, but you definitely get what you pay for.
I had an appointment scheduled at 12:00, but my car didnt even get into the garage until after 1:00. I went for a simple inspection and they quoted me over 1,000 dollars for repairs and it took them two hours to figure that out. Turns out the only necessary repair was a 40 dollar third brake light which I installed myself.
I started going to South Main Auto Service when I was in School, now that I live in the area I have kept taking my car here and even convinced my fiance that this was the place to take his truck. Over the past couple years South Main has been very good to us! They are honest and straight forward with what needs to be done to your car. I never worry about feeling pressured or ripped off if I bring my car in by myself. Just this morning I took my car in for an inspection with the intent of dropping it off before work. When I missed their shuttle service they hustled and were able to get my inspection done while I was waiting so I wouldnt be late to work. I was very impressed!
I have been going to South Main Auto for years. Every time I go I get great service. Not only are they friendly actually treating you like a person and not a customer but they can work on your time. This family run business has even taken their time to come to my rescue when Ive locked my keys in my car. One of the mechanics named Josh spent almost an hour fishing out my keys freeing me and helping me get home.Over the time of my service with them I needed to get a new set of tires but they said that only 3 of my tires needed to replaced saving me the money I would have spent on a 4th tire.I am definitely going to keep coming here as long as I live in Blacksburg.
BEST MECHANIC IN BLACKSBURG. South Main is the best auto shop in Blacksburg. I took my car to South Main and it was incredible how soon they were working on my car, and calling me to give me the details. I cant say that the other auto shops in town will work on your car very promptly, which is kind of disappointing. They called me to tell me what needed to be done, gave me an EXTREMELY THOROUGH explanation of what needed to be done, and what they planned to do, and waited for my approval on these services. I will keep bringing my car back here because based on our conversations, I knew they knew what they were talking about and had a lot of experience, were very professional in their diagnosis, and had thoroughly tested my car. They also worked very quickly to get the job done, which was great. Overall, they were just very thorough and professional. The pricing of their service was also appropriate.Ill be taking my car back here, and Ill fully recommend them to anyone that I know.
They have been servicing our autos for years.I could not still be driving my 1990 Olds Cutlass SWwithout there servicing it. Great people to deal with.
Best auto repair in Blacksburg. Awesome service from Josh. Super friendly and took care of my car quickly! 100% would recommend to a friend.
Rip off, first of all, I dropped a set of rims and tires off to have some things done early that day, these idiots call me one minute before they close and tell me its ready after it sat there all day, second they charged me 40 bucks just to remove 2 tires from rims and install one tire to a rim, no balance no nothing. Ive been a regular customer for years but this one really ticked me off. I called around and other places quoted me 20, 25 bucks to do the same exact work. Its really my fault for not price checking first but Im a long term customer and a local not one off your little rich college kids you greatly take advantage of. Next time dont charge your loyal customers an outrageous shop labor rate over a stinking spare tire swap for a beat up work truck...seriously, Ill do business with the rednecks down the road and get way better deals and honesty....
In brief, I may suggest not to go there! I used to be their customer, probably not anymore!I took my car there for inspection yesterday! They came up with $1110.93! Let me talk about the problems they have told me about my car. Exhaust manifold should be changed (part cost $891.60 + $79.80 labor), and tint from window should be removed ($39.90)! You add these costs to 16 dollar inspection cost and tax, etc, youll get the $1110.93.I took my car to three other auto repair shops, and they could not find any problem with my exhaust! Can you believe this?! I was simply shocked....Claim of South Main Auto Service was that there is a crack in the exhaust manifold, which can later become a problem, or making some noise. Even if I would accept the claim and wanted to change the part, no other shops gave me expenses above $550 including part cost and labor. I couldnt believe it!! They wanted to charge me almost two times of the actual cost for repair!! This is simply not fair. One of the auto repair shops saw the South Main Auto Service quote, and told me I dont know how they can sleep at night!FYI, my car passed inspection in another shop with no concern or even warning from inspector, because they believed that nothing was wrong with the car. I really dont feel good about their service at #South Main Auto Service#.
I bought my first new car in 2012. Its a 2013 Subaru Outback and I have had all of my servicing done at South Main Auto. They have accommodated me every time I need oil change/tire rotation services with great service. I also bought my tires there. I wouldnt go anywhere else!!
Great service, friendly, they really try to help you even if you dont have an appointment.
Service wasnt great. Shop was clean, employees seemed nice enough.
Good Honest Auto repair
DO NOT take your car there. They quoted me one price at the beginning of the week and increased the cost by $150 because of an additional part they needed. I was told I would get calls back numerous times and never did. I got my car back 3 days after I was supposed to. Completely ridiculous and LOVE taking advantage of students.
Too expensive. Most places charge $10-$20 for a flat tire repair. Here its about $40. But they eventually told me they couldnt fix it (which I understand). They still charged me $20 just for taking my tire off and putting it back on.They instead tried scaring me into buying 4 new tires from them right away saying its lifetime is up and I could get a flat from any tire any second now (even though my car just recently passed inspection). And to top it off, when I got back in my car, it reeked of cigarettes the next couple of days.
They told me that they would give me a shuttle for a safety inspection when I called on the phone, but when I went in person they said they could not give me a shuttle ride for an inspection. These two interactions happened within 10 minutes of each other.
They said one thing, did another, took no responsibility, made excuses and lied to my face. Rather than telling me the truth they told me what they thought I wanted to hear and, without diagnosing the problem, started talking about $700 to repair it.I believe they tried to take advantage of me because I am a student. I will not be returning and would not recommend this business to anyone who expects honesty and integrity from their auto-shop.
Ive read mixed reviews, but I can only comment for myself. Ive been taking my truck and my wifes car over for years now, and theyve never done us wrong. Things are done on time and they have never found extra stuff to fix. Recently I asked questions about should i get a high mileage service now and my brakes are squeaking, should we replace them. I was told no on both accounts. They could have easily sold me new brake pads and some extra services, but didnt. Kudos to South Main Auto.
Good service, a little pricey but its not like thats something you cant find out before going.
Quick, prompt, good people and service
