Conner is a rock star, super intelligent and amazing !!!! The best Leasing consultant in the world. I have the best living experience right here in Birmingham. I never thought I could work in the city and come home to absolute freedom and peace, especially in the downtown area, until I found Ascend Five Points. It’s the only student living apartment home that has state of the art fitness, lounge areas, 2 rooftops, a grill area, 2 complimentary massage chairs as well as a huge game room. I can have my cake and eat it too living here and and it is proven. Thanks so much for making my lifestyle one to remember for years to come, and a special thank you to Conner Dalton for your understanding during the pandemic and especially a warm and generous congratulations in advance to Shari for being asset corporate employee of the year( if there is a such thing lol )Shari is an absolute sweetheart. - Ezekial
I will say my experience with Ascend this time around has been much better to say the least, I love my parking space, Connor was very sweet and helpful with my room key situation, and the new office manager literally helped me find my AirPods in the trash chute! She definitely didn’t have to do that but it was so sweet 🖤 the price is right for what you get and the complex matched me with a really sweet roommate that I adore already. 5 stars all around!
This review is about only the leasing process, not the livability. If you decide to lease, be sure to sign only a paper lease, not an online lease. The company has the ability to change the terms of the lease online in real time after you have electronically signed the lease, making it appear as if you agreed to the change in terms when you did not. This happened to my daughter. I ended up having to cancel the lease because the promised rate was not honored, due to their tiered pricing system, which pressures students to sign as early as possible in order to avoid being charged a higher rent in another pricing tier (even months in advance). With five months to go before my daughter was to move in, I was told they had run out of the number of beds they were willing to offer at the stated price and thats why they raised the price after she signed. Her roommates lease, signed moments earlier, was not affected. When I told them we would cancel and they would likely lose my daughters roommates lease as well, (surprisingly) they did not back down and told me if we changed our minds and wanted to reinstate the lease, my daughters rent could rise even higher. Within the hour, the online leases monthly rent rose again, and my daughters electronic signature still appeared on the lease, now with the second price increase. That said, since we were within the legal 72-hour cancellation period, the company did cancel both my daughters lease and her roommates lease the day after we signed and while I had to follow up a couple times to get it in writing, the customer service reps were gracious.Curiously, someone later called my daughter two days after we cancelled to let her know upper management had approved an exception for the original quote to be reinstated. Since we had no indication this approval was being sought, and instead had the rent increased twice within a two-hour period, we signed a lease with another competitor complex we found that was able to offer both a competitive package and secure, less expensive on-premise parking (Ascend had already run out of parking spaces).Bottom line: paper lease only!
I do genuinely love living here especially after my past experiences at my old apartment complex. The rate is high but for the location, ALL the amenities, all the utilities included except power and how it also comes fully furnished it is definitively worth all the money. The staff at the front desk also makes moving in and living here super easy and enjoyable.
I have genuinely enjoyed living here the past year and it’s a perfect place for students. Dalton has went above and beyond to help me work out a way of leasing with Ascend. Management and staff have made many changes to make this a safe and enjoyable place to live. Highly recommend it.
I love my brand new apartment. The application process was super easy and the stuff was super helpful, couldnt have asked for a smoother transition into living on my own. There are so many awesome amenities. 10/10 would recommend!
Extra charge after move out? Just ridiculous. Inspection per month which is good but when there were things that broken and wanted maintenance request (requested at the inspection) nothing happened until days/weeks after. Rent insurance & maintenance service not really useful/maximum.
I am enjoying my time at ASCEND! Extremely nice staff that is easy to reach and talk to. I would recommend this place, especially to students. Also, based on the apartment-tour you will know what you will get for your money.Sincerely,Krenar K.
After living at this apartment for 9 months there are MANY things I am unsatisfied with. First is there is no parking, I pay 65 dollars a month to park in a community parking and at night the spots are filled with people coming to five points to bar hop etc. so I cannot find parking in a place that I pay for. Also, there are no spaces to park for our friends who want to visit. The businesses around tow and street parking is 2 hours max with payment, so none of our friends can come visit without having to pay. Recently they have added rules that were not apart of the lease. Amenities that we pay too much money for all close at 10 and we have to check in our guests. If I wanted to be treated like a child I would have lived in the the dorms. We get 2 guests per person and we have to check them in, which was not apart of the lease! Also work orders take so long to be completed. I put a work order in on the light in my shower in January and it is still not fixed and it’s now May. There is mold growing and it is leaking. Overall not worth the money to have the managers change the lease and not satisfy the residents. I would have lived in the dorm if I had known.
I love it!! I have my own room and I have floor to ceiling windows! The gym is super nice, great equipment for your needs, and I loove using the sauna after a great workout. Highly recommend!!
Living here has been great, havent had any of the issues that I have seen other residents have since new management took over.
I really enjoy living at Ascend! My favorite amenities include the rooftop pool, tanning beds, and fitness center! They also have gorgeous views of the city and it is a super close walk to UAB and the local restaurants and shops!
Its taking two months to fix a fan in my bathroom (still awaiting parts). I mentioned this to an employee at the front desk and they took my name and phone number down and said that they would call me for an update. Unfortunately, its been a week since that happened and nothing has come from it and im just now getting to the point of getting tired of having MOLD in my mfking bathroom. I understand you have many units to take care of but two months of nothing is just baffling.-608 A

It was really great to sign a lease there. Connor was really great and friendly. He is the best :)
Okay living here has its problems, but the leasing agents and manager makes it a lot better. Connor Ames and Dalton are amazing! They are always willing to help me trouble shoot any problems I have. Connor is always greeting me with a smile at the front desk and others and that always brightens my day!!
LOVE my apartment! The views are gorgeous and it’s so nice having a brand new apartment! I also really like that there are always fun give-always and events at the community. The majority of my classes have been online this year, but Ascend has made it a lot better with all the perks customer service and amenities! Deff recommend to any college student!
I wouldn’t recommend for anyone to live here. Unfortunately I fell victim to the nice pictures and the idea of living somewhere new. Because of this I was unable to read reviews because no one had ever lived here before. The staff is extremely unfriendly and rude, all except the maintenance staff. The managers are NEVER in the office, and even when they are it’s so hard to get in touch with them. The people that work at the desk act as if any question is an inconvenience to them, and at one point I was even too uncomfortable to ask for my own packages. They also do not always wear masks even though there are posters all over the lobby saying masks are required. Besides that, the apartment itself was much too small for 4 people. The rooms are tiny, and the space just isn’t enough. The smoke detectors are extremely sensitive and will go off for just opening the oven door without having the windows open. You think you’re getting a good deal for $745, but it’s really not considering you have to live with 3 other adults just for that price, and that doesn’t even include the $30 electricity and $65 parking for a parking deck that is old and not even connected to the building. Not to mention people that visit the restaurants and bars can park there too. It all feels very unsafe and I definitely did not enjoy these past few months here at all. In November I asked a staff member if there was a list for people that wanted to relet their room for a willing person to take over the lease, and they rudely told me there wasn’t one and that i should “try facebook groups bc that’s what other people are doing”. And only recently did I find out that there is actually a list for reletting. Overall, I have had a terrible experience living here. I would be shocked if they had even half of their previous tenants from last year resign a lease. So many people have already moved out, and thank God I was able to finally move out last month. 0/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND especially to young, naive college students. I genuinely believe any review with 3+ stars are fake and either the people that work there wrote them or their friends did. They are also now trying to charge me for an electric bill that costs twice as much as I used to pay from when I didn’t even live there anymore. I had the worst experience living there, and I regret the day I signed the lease.
Ascend is inconvenient to say the absolute LEAST. Rent is at the cheapest 720 a month per person and hopefully you do not have a car because if you do you WILL pay at least another $50 per month to park your car at ascend. To add on to parking there is NO parking for any guests that you may invite over which has made many of my friends not want to come visit me since they will have to pay for parking which again is inconvenient. Ascend will give you gift cards to sign a least but what they won’t tell you is that they WILL charge you an convenience fee to use said “gift card”. I would only advise living here if you do not have: Pets, Friends, or a car seeing as there is no accommodation for each of these. If I wanted to live in a dorm I would’ve stayed in Blazer hall this is NOT what I signed up for. PS READ THE LEASE. There are hidden clauses that give ascend extrinsic authority to always change the rules which will effect you and your guests. As long as you only have 2 friends whom do not have cars and you do not mind picking them up from their apartments should you live here seeing as we are only allowed to have two friends over at a time which have to be check in through security.
Would not recommend living here. Rooms are tiny for how much money we are paying. Security never answers their phone, would be really bad if it was an emergency. Parking is awful and a pain. Trying to get packages is also a pain. Dish washer barely washes dishes and the washing machine is awful. Staff is friendly, and the amenities are nice. However, the bad completely outweighs the good. They also hardly ever answer their phone.
At the beginning of the school year this apartment complex was not bad and I would have given it a decent review. However, as of recent months this apartment complex has become an unhealthy environment. I currently live on the 16th floor and even being that high up I’m still woken up at 2 AM every single weekend night from the loud sports bars below. The staff are not enforcing covid policies and as someone with asthma it does concern me. I recently scheduled a meeting with a manager, when I went to my appointment no manager met with me only an employee which is very unprofessional since I called and scheduled a meeting with a manager. I would recommend finding somewhere else to lease into especially if you need proper sleep.
The focus of the staff and management is too much on social media and bringing in new residents rather than caring for those that actually live in the apartments already. Took 4 months to get a window in our unit fixed (that was broken before we even moved in). Getting mail is a pain and they have a tendency to misplace packages and be rude when handing them out. The rent is high for how small the units are. Yes the views are pretty and the amenities are nice (though way over hyped), but it’s not worth it for how much you pay and how little the staff cares. If they want to go be tik too famous, they should leave realty to the adults. They way they continue, they will have lots of empty units to fill.
If you are looking for student housing for students that are truly at UAB to earn their degree, you probably want to look elsewhere. Ascend has a lot to learn about catering to these type students. While the amenities are nice and a nice break from study, a nice quiet place to study is a must. The study room is located next to the gym and arcade games and is not sound proof. Therefore, studying will need to be done in their room. The reasoning behind not having a desk to study in every room is baffling. We were assured before signing our lease that there would be no issue in getting a desk. Now we are given the excuse that it can not be supplied bc of fair housing laws. All other layout besides the efficiency have not only a desk, but also an island and dresser. (And no the shelving on the Murphy bed is no where near a dresser!) This is a lame excuse and in my opinion we are not being given fair housing due to the lacking of these amenities. If an employee (rather a student or manager) tells you that it can be given, you need to stand by your word. Therefore, before signing a lease make sure you have it in writing and is approved by a leasing manager. If this is how things remain going forward, there will be a vacancy available next year!! I am one unhappy parent! I will not go any further listing the other issues we have encountered. Just a warning to be careful that things are told and look better than they really are! And just an FYI - the majority of 5 star reviews are given by employees. Beware!
Worst place to live in Birmingham. The area is unsafe due to the crackheads walking around, my car got vandalized in the parking deck (along with many other residents who’s cars got vandalized over the past couple of months) that we are required to park in due to the building not having any parking space And did I mention that you also have to pay an additional $70 for parking a month. The clubs next to it are always loud on weekends and Tuesdays. The building was shot at, someone recently died behind it. They place students(freshmen in college) with adults who’s already in their career. The rooms are supper small they allow animals and people do not clean up enough g them in the building.I wish I can post pictures! But DO Not move here I repeat DO NOT move her very unsafe.
The building is beautiful and the amenities are great, but the communication between management and residents is almost nonexistent. Connor Ames and Kolbi Biggers are the only staff members that have gone out of their way to help me on a regular basis and are always fantastic. Would be 5 stars if management cared about current residents as much as they care about signing new leases.
We could not be happier about our experience! The leasing consultants were phenomenal! We are so happy that our daughter will be living there this year! Thanks so much for making us feel welcome!
Its an awesome place to live!!:)
The staff was very knowledgeable about the property and explained the minute details that most complexes do not go into at all! The experience was first-rate as well as friendly. I was greeted and welcomed as if I have been living there already which was a pleasant surprise since most places do not go that far to provide that type of experience. I am looking forward to seeing the growth of this staff as well as the finished development and will most definitely be here for move-in day!!!
Be careful when signing a lease with this complex. We signed a lease before the complex was built but son needed to move home for medical reasons. Was told to find a relet and we did but still was charged a huge amount even though was verbally told there would not be any fees for not moving in. Get it in writing!
I signed a lease with them in December. I incurred financial difficulty due to COVID and reached out stating that I would be unable to fulfill the lease. Keep in mind lease would not begin for a few months and place hasnt even been built. They told me that if I found someone to take over mine, then all would be fine. I bring in someone to take over my lease and they just funnel them into other available units. These people are not willing to help out students. They raise their prices and offer discounts to make things more appealing.
Great communication and very helpful with the overall process. As a college student, It can be hard doing this for the first time alone. My leasing agent, Zarien Morris, made it very simple and gave me all of the information I needed. 10/10 experience and I am looking forward to living in Ascend BHAM!!!
Staff was so nice! They truly cared for me and the needs I was looking for in an apartment. They answered every question and concern I had. I’ve never had a more personable experience.
The staff was really welcoming and genuinely excited to have me tour. They explained everything about the building and apartments and answered all my questions. The rooftop pool and views are gonna be amazing! I can’t wait to live here!
Trent Martin has been so incredibly personable and helpful throughout my entire experience with Ascend! Everyone is very kind and eager to assist!
Terrible customer service!!! Staff is made up of kids that are rude, mean and not helpful. They also charge for small things and have not given the gift cards they have promised to give out months before we moved in. Do not trust these people or sign a lease here. TERRIBLE APARTMENT COMPLEX AND VERY RUDE PEOPLE I am glad to graduate so I dont have to stay here next year.
Dont do it
Property management isn’t willing to help out. Rooms are extremely tiny
Always feel welcomed there, and they have the best service!
