I was visiting family in Berkeley when the crown of my dental implant came loose. Dr. Au was able to see me quickly and expertly fixed the problem. She and her staff were kind, knowledgeable, and skilled. If I lived in Berkeley I would certainly be sure to visit Dr. Au’s office whenever I needed dental services.
My 83-year-old mother needed dentures, and as expected, she was very nervous about the whole experience and the results. She wanted her teeth to look youthful and natural. Berkeley Prosthodontics was highly recommended to us by the doctor who had performed a surgical procedure to prepare for the dentures. We followed the recommendation, and it was the right decision. Right from the beginning, it was evident that Dr. Au was the right specialist for the job. She put my mother at ease and gave her the confidence that the results will be good. My mothers use of the English language is about 20%, which adds a layer of difficulty because communication is a critical part of building a denture as it becomes a long-term super essential accessory to someones body. I was impressed by how Dr. Au was able to jump over that hurdle. The whole process went smoothly, considering that there were delays due to the pandemic. When operations resumed, it took two appointments to create the wax model of the denture, and after a few measurements, modifications, and adjustments, my mother had the teeth she was hoping for. The third appointment was the final and the most important one because how the denture feels in the mouth is as critical as how they look. The results were terrific! Her new teeth look great, and she claims that she does not even feel the denture in her mouth. One happy customer!. That was an excellent experience for both my mother and I. I took the time to write this review because everyone who worked at that office and was involved in the process was kind, friendly, and professional. I highly recommend them.
Dr. Au and the hygienist are just fantastic! Dr. Au is the kindest, gentlest, prosthodontist! I love that her specialized training in crowns comes into play figuring out how to quarter back between my implant, crown, and braces. I enjoyed the steps for COVID safety in the office when I got my cleaning. Also adore that Ms. Marilyn has been with the office forever and seems to remember me like I come in every week when I come in! I recommend this office without hesitation.
I ended up at this office a couple of years ago after a literal lifetime of dental phobia and avoiding the dentist. To say I needed a lot of work is an understatement. Dr. Au has rebuilt almost my entire mouth with teeth that not only function well and feel natural, but are also aesthetically pleasing (read: super cute! :). She is really an artist, a perfectionist, and is super sweet and gives good book recommendations! :) Im grateful to this whole office--Sheilia (and Veva before her), Marilyn at the front desk--for their kindness and hard work, especially during these times.
Clean office in a historic building. When I arrived, I was greeted with a smile by Marilyn at the front desk. The assistant brought me back and made sure I was comfortable during the X-ray process. During my exam, Dr. Au was informative and educated me on my dental health and needs. Overall, an excellent experience and I will be going back for my check up and cleanings in the future.
Did a great job for my son
The dentist here was really nice and sweet but she was so rough when cleaning my teeth, my gums were bleeding the whole time, and now I can’t even eat lunch because my teeth hurt so much from her scraping my teeth intensely with her tools. Go somewhere else where they use a waterjet for teeth cleaning.
Over the decades I have been treated by a number of dentists, endodontists and periodontists both here and abroad. Some good others not so. A couple of years ago I needed several implants. Because of the high cost, I explored the international options in Hungary and Thailand and Costa Rica. Local dental implant practices seemed expensive and overbooked until I stumbled upon Dr. Amy Au of Berkeley Prosthodontics through google. With angst and trepidation I went to see her and discovered the absolute best dentist right here in my own backyard in Berkeley. I have had 3 successful implants so far and have found Dr. Amy to be extremely competent, professional and devoted to her patients. She has made room in her schedule to see me immediately when I broke one tooth and another time when I needed an urgent extraction. And she has taken the time to do things right. She has a wonderful bedside manner and a positive outlook which has created a welcoming office atmosphere and responsive staff. She has even phoned me after a few of the more complicated procedures to make sure all is OK.She practices conservative medicine: using pre-surgery antibiotics to prevent infection; and allowing ample time between extraction/bone graft and implant placement and crown to allow for full healing and bone strength. Many implant practitioners advertise single day treatments. Think slow cooking vs. fast food. Her exacting prosthetic skills have led me to comment that she is a miracle worker. Her office even has free and easy parking access. On top of all that, her charges are reasonable and she is meticulous in describing costs and options beforehand. I almost never give reviews, only for the very good and the very bad. This one is very good.In short, I am so pleased to have found Dr. Amy and will continue to use her practice for all of my dental needs, not just implants. So if you are as nervous about implants as I was, give her a try. You will be glad you did.
My family and I have been depended on Dr. Curtis and Barbara for our dentist needs for years and have always had the best experience.
For years I have worked with Dr. Curtis, and have found it at times frustrating. I had profound prosthedontic needs, and he did work w/this.However, I find that any dentist or prosthedontist who cannot call in a prescription to a drugstore to treat a patient with an infection early on a Friday before a weekend starts, is not someone I want to partronize in the future. My son in law, a physician in Virginia, was amazed that this was Dr. Curtiss action (or inaction). Dr. Oldenburg was my original referral, I guess I will call him or the oral surgeons to ask for another prosthedontist. Sandra North
