Cozy place with great food and drinks. The restaurant is large with a very old style but tasteful decor. The outdoor patio looked great and thats where we preferred to dine. The service was great, the food was delicious, including the dessert. The drinks were unique and nice - i like that they left the shaker with the drink - so its like getting two drinks for one.Overall great experience
$30 for 4 bites of low grade beef flat iron steak. 🙄 Also theres nothing worse than ordering medium rare and getting well done. If you cant train your chef how to cook a mid rare steak to-go then you shouldnt be serving steak to go. I got take out, was extremely tired and hungry, got home, sat down and opened the container to find 4 slices of basically beef jerky. So disappointed. I called and spoke to a manager, he said he couldnt refund my money, so I drove all the way back up to the restaurant to get what I ordered. The manager said he hopes that I come again, well see about that. Prove you can cook a good decent steak and I may try again. Or dont charge $30 for a cheap cut of low grade beef if you cant even train your Cooks how to cook it correctly. Flavor was not even average. 👎👎
This is a great place with an attractive outdoor area, lovely decor inside, friendly/efficient service and of course, delicious American food with French & Texan twists. I agree with reviewers noting that its classic Austin. Its a restaurant I have chosen for more than one special occasion over the years, and my birthday late lunch yesterday (a Tuesday) was quite enjoyable.I had aimed for a 2:30 reservation, got 3 as an option instead (selected just a few hours prior), and that ended up suiting our group of four perfectly. It wasnt a busy time. The special cocktails we ordered were refreshing (although stronger would have been nice), especially the couple with cukes & fresh basil. We shared the crab cake appetizer and were very pleased with them, including the sauce & chutney. Everyone got salad -- Caesar w/chicken added (pictured), medium rare Steak (pictured), and the goat cheese one.My mom requested they do something to honor my bday and that worked out well too (I chose a slice of carrot cake). I might not have dined in there for a while -- but probably more recently than 2017, when a group went after my legal wedding. That marriage didnt last but I certainly dont blame the charming restaurant for that! ;-D
A robust and expertly crafted menu with unique cocktails and a patisserie style dessert menu, Im in love ❤️Chez Zee is a restaurant that I had enjoyed 2 years ago and had lingered in my mind (namely for the fresh baked granny smith apple pie dessert with ice cream.)Their dine in options were closed for almost the first year of the cov*d pandemic and Ive been looking forward to some socially distanced dining. All this time later and Chez Zee does not disappoint! The live piano playing, and playful strings of lights sets the mood of an Austin classic mixed with a mid to high class vibe.
Everything about this restaurant is Top Notch. The food was delicious. I enjoyed the smoked pork tenderloin and my girlfriend enjoyed the tuna immensely. We shared the fried pickles and found them to be some of the best fried pickles we have ever had. The Cucumber jalapeno margarita was spicy and delicious. Julio did a fantastic job of taking care of us. I will absolutely be back to enjoy this restaurant again.
Loved the decor. It was eclectic, vibrant and very colorful. There was a nice dessert showcase featuring a nice variety of homemade pies, cakes, mousses, puddings, tarts and cream brulée. Yummy!!! On the weekends the menu offers a variety of brunch fare, while the rest of the week you can order from their regular menu. There is also a full bar and we ordered a cranberry/ blueberry memosa. It was delicious indeed. Their chip and queso and salsa left a lot to be desired as the chips were of the flour variety and were cold and had a greasy taste, not pleasant. Also, the potatoes that comes with the Belgian waffles I ordered and the omelet my daughter ordered, were over cooked and had a somewhat burnt taste to them. Two thumbs down! For their breakfast menu, In a word: disappointed. We did love their desserts as we ordered several, such as the key lime pie, the apple pie, crème brulée, chocolate mousse and the caramel chocolate pudding all tasted great. Two thumbs up! Would I return for another visit? Yes! Our server BJ who was our waiter as well as the bartender was very attentive and friendly.
My favorite restaurant in town, and a fabulous place to celebrate an occasion. The atmosphere is so cute and cozy, the food is delicious, customer service always great, and omg the desserts! Fantastic brunch as well.
Love, Love, Love this place!! The piano playing in the background alone is worth the experience. The environment is warm and it romantic, yet worthy of a family experience. It truly is a lovely place! The food and service are beyond expectations. Not to mention, the dessert display. 😋😍
Great atmosphere and food. Wine Wes not properly chilled and room temp at best.
Chez Zee is my happy place! The food is always great! I can have a super healthy meal with fish and veggies or a juicy burger and sweet potato fries. The staff is friendly and service oriented, the food is made from scratch (and you can taste it!), and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I love coming here! Brunch, lunch, dinner, anytime. And the desserts are sooo good! The cakes are phenomenal, recipes are original, and the location is perfect. I bring all of my out of town guests here for some of the best of Austin!
I am going to start off with saying, I know how to cook. Chez Zee food was off the chain. I ordered the rosemary trout and Cajun pecan crusted bourbon chicken. My entrees were so good, I even ordered dessert, which was made fresh and served beautifully. I would have paid double with todays meal, with no complaints. The food is infused delicious. A must try
I held my retirement dinner at Chez Zee last week for 8 of my closest friends and my wife. The evening could not have gone better. Vicky suggested the set up and coordinated everything expertly. Our server, Jackie, was fantastic; constantly on the ready, anticipating everyones request before they spoke. Each of my friends could not stop talking about how fantastic their individual meal tasted. The custom Italian Cream cake created for me was the best Ive ever tasted. The edible picture of me on the top of the cake was unbelievably clear - in fact, some of my friends didnt believe it was edible at first. Hagan and his staff made this celebration something I will never forget. Thank you!!!
The croissants are perfect. As is the shrimp & lobster omelet. Spot on!
This is the best food I’ve had in a long time. The pork chop and pecan chicken dinners were incredible. Amazing flavors!
Very good food and the service was excellent. I found the atmosphere very welcoming. It was good to see the community service awards from local schools and groups It shows care for their community as well.
Classic Austin Bistro. The plates look amazing. Lots of option. This is the a perfect place to go if you have picky eaters, there really is something for everyone. Also be sure to save room for dessert. They have great desserts and lots of options. The butterscotch pudding is amazing. Also be sure to go for your birthday they decorate the plates to give you something fun.
I’m a fan of Chez Zee’s breakfasts and desserts! I haven’t had lunch or dinner here so can’t speak to those. I love Eggs Benedict and there are so many types here, from the classic to one with steak to the crab cakes Benedict like I got this last time. Also, the desserts are massive slices of cake or delicious poached pears. It’s a fun restaurant with their decor. Gotta go check it out.
Love the ambiance as much as the food! The restaurant is always decorated for the holiday. The food is always on point. Creative drinks. Perfect special date or occasion restaurant. Love the covered breezeway between the restaurant and the dining hall!Mask compliant in theory; I noted several employees with their masks below their nose and had to shoo some customers away from me as I was sitting at the bar. Not socially distant at all. They offer curbside pickup but do not take cash, therefore I had to go inside.
This place is soooo good and very cool! Its an Austin staple. One of the few restaurants in town that still represent Austins unique artistic and weird culture. The food is great! I ordered the Southwestern Chicken Salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Their desserts are famous but Im trying to eat healthier so didnt get a dessert this time. They get pretty crowded for lunch so youll probably need to valet your parking as the parking lot gets filled up quickly.
Great atmosphere. Staff very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. Food was great from appetizers to main course and of course their desserts!Great place to help dear friends celebrate wedding vow renewals!
Chez Zee is an old faithful. Never disappointed. Good food and service . They are also having staffing issues and do a great job with all of that . Food quality has been consistent.
Nice restaurant for boilerplate brunch with a wide variety of options. The service is really accommodating and attentive. The atmosphere is pretty unique but a little dark and becoming a little dated (been here a few times over the last few years). They have a full bar and a pianist playing on weekends (not sure if it is only weekends). Overall a pretty unique spot but somewhat overpriced.
Once again I was at Chez Zee. I had the best dinner EVER tonight. The chicken and Angel hair pasta with a white wine mushroom cream sauce!!!! OMG!!! It was the absolute best meal EVER. Sat at bar and enjoyed. I love this place.
The staff is always the best part of this place. I like their lunch and dinner but I love their brunch! Make sure to rsvp.
Great food and fun local atmosphere. Derek the bar man was friendly and the jazz piano was appreciated.
Meant to post this after the birthday dinner I had there that started off with being made to feel bad. We had a reservation and everything and they were so offended that there was one or two more people who showed up. So because one or two people brought a significant other it was a big deal. The staff just seemed so annoyed. I ordered the pork tenderloin and it tasted like something under $10 not over $20. Then they asked which dessert I wanted and brought out the other, which is pretty rude, and of course it wasnt good. Their creme brulee was also mediocre. Everything here was mediocre from service to entrees to dessert. All I needed was the one experience to know this place is overrated and never go back.
The food here is very good. Maybe not as cutting-edge great as it was a decade ago, but VERY good. The service (on a recent Friday night) was impeccable...but slow. Seems like our guy was serving half the restaurant. There was a pianist performing in-person with the help of a keyboard and an electronic rhythm box. That was pleasant, if perhaps overly amplified. All in all a good experience.
First time with a friend from out of town. Perfect place for great food and atmosphere. I will be back.
Chez Zee American Bistro should be considered a landmark in Austin, TX when it comes to restaurants. Its been around for 34 years. Located on Balcones Dr. And FM 2222 Chez Zee is easily recognized by its eccentric exterior sign with a rabbit with a martini followed by an eccentric interior, complete with ambient lighting, live music and their famous red piano. Theres 2 buildings to Chez Zee. The main restaurant and The Gallery where you can hold most any type of event you can think of. Theres a wide variety of food at Chez Zee from burgers to huevos rancheros. And many different types of pasta dishes. And when it comes to desserts Chez Zee has you covered from the all time favorite Lemon Rosemary cake to their Granny Smith apple pie. On the weekends you better make a reservation cause this is the place to be if you wanna take your family and friends to brunch. But all around from a romantic dinner for 2, for a business meeting with colleagues, or just a meal with your family Chez Zee is the place to go. And if youre visiting Austin Chez Zee should definitely be on your bucket list of places to try. You can never go wrong with Chez Zee American Bistro.
My girlfriend brought me here during the pandemic and the food is just fantastic. You literally cant go wrong with any item. Its all 10/10.
Delicious American cuisine. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and the company. Our waiter was friendly and informative. We had to stay for dessert! Such an Austin classic/staple.
We had a party of 6 for brunch on a Saturday. The service was great and the food was delicious. We called ahead for a reservation and we seated as soon as we got there.
Amazing food and customer service! This is definitely my new favorite brunch spot.
Food came out luke-warm. Like the the bacon and potatoes were pre-made them heat flashed upon order. The eggs were obviously made fresh and even they were cold. The pear mimosa was tasty and thw croissants were delicious and fresh. Thinking maybe they should focus on dessert and leave the food to someone else.
Great selection & delicious unique dishes you wont find at the average restaurant. Quite piano played on a red grand piano, FUN 🎶🎹
Wide variety of well prepared dishes in a nice, comfortable setting...brunch is good too...desserts very yummy and big enough to share...
We have our anniversary meal with friends here every year. Forget New Austin... these are the best desserts old Austinstill has to offer!
When my friend recommended this restaurant for girls night out, I didnt quite imagine it would be this beautiful. The ambience was truly remarkable and the food was great. The wait staff was warm and inviting given great attention to details.. ...But of course above all the decor was the real show stopper, and we took lots of pix....see you again soon!! 😎
Incredible service and attention to detail. The NY Strip Steak is a winner. Pleasent vibe with a live pianist.
Went to Chez Zee, a local restaurant for dinner - we will never go there again! We had supported them throughout Covid via takeout. Really wanted to be there for a neighborhood staple. It dropped to the last place on earth we will ever dine again. Dinner was cold. Looked like they unwrapped a pre made to go order(as I ordered the daily special) and put it on a plate.Very sub-par, and worse- the manager was extremely rude and condescending. Too many great places to eat within a mile. Cold food. Horrible service. Destined to die out. Definitely not worthy of its past reputation and was a betrayal of the support we have showed them.
We brunched on 6/29/19 after some morning hiking. Valet parking was available if one wanted that service. The cute photo op spots on the porch welcomed us and the quirky, yet elegant decor continued inside. We had a cozy table conducive to great conversation. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and helped us customize our order. The pear mimosas were a wonderful compliment to our French toast and omelettes. The women’s bathroom was clean and convenient to the dining room and front entrance. Highly recommend Chez Zee!
Such a perfect example of whats so special about Austin!! Great bistro with an expansive menu. Make sure to have reservations on the weekends - gets really crowded. Nice patio area, and I saw a large gathering room that I would think I used for receptions and large events. Dont miss this special spot.
One of my very favorite restaurants!! The Goat Cheese Salad is the best!!!!! Can’t wait for the beef kabobs to come back!
I am extremely disappointed with the service I received last Sunday at such a high-end restaurant. After making a reservation and driving an hour to the restaurant, we were greeted with the worst customer service Ive received since moving to Austin. First, our waiter messed up our order by bringing the wrong French toast. He then failed to expedite the corrected order so by the time our French toast was brought to the table, the rest of our food was cold. Our waiter was extremely nonresponsive to our table and seemed to go out of his way to avoid us, all the while assisting other tables around us. A couple of his tables came in after and left before us because they were receiving better service and Im not quite sure what to attribute that to.....When our waiter finally brought our check, he overcharged us for the meal and then made us wait a long time to cash us out, all the while paying particular attention to tables all around us. To say that Im disappointed is an understatement. To receive such poor service for such an expensive meal is terrible.
Our server, Luke, was great. No issues with him at all. Chief complaints were the Sharons pasta with shrimp was way over cooked and Christmas music in February. Upon inquiry of Christmas music I was told there are two on a jazz CD they play. We have frequented this restaurant for over 20 years and it seems less than it used to be. Wont give up yet. This is just a heads up.
Good service. Creme brulee and coffee. Soup. All delicious.
The restaurant is very nice, quiet and comfortable inside. Our server was excellent (I am very sorry I did not remember her name or I would post it too). The food was great and there is something for everyone on the menu with perfect portions. I dont usually eat fried pickles but they were the best I had ever had for an appetizer. Do not skip the desert menu even if you take it to go, you wont be sorry. I highly recommend this restaurant. Nice atmosphere, great service, great food and great price for the quality.
Truly outstanding brunch experience. The beef quality of the stake and eggs was top-notch and the french toast deserved to be ordered twice. If youre an Austinite dont wait all these years like I did to visit Chez Zee. If youre just passing by this is one of those restaurants you dont want to miss out on.
Excellent ahi tuna salad with lemon vinaigrette! Light and filling.
We like this restaurant especially when you cant decide on a good if food you want. There is something for everyone on the menu and it is all really good. I like the chicken fettuccine. The desserts are yummy and they always have something on the other side too.
I love this place! Great environment for date night!
The atmosphere is always wonderful at Chez Zee. Definitely go during brunch and split a carafe with friends! My favorite are the Eggs Benedict, but everything is pretty good and the salads are huge!
Unfortunately Chez Zee has gone down hill to a point where they are off our regular restaurant rotation. Their new management is sub-par and is apparently used to providing mediocre takeout service. We will not be back to dine at Chez Zee and we live in the neighborhood. It’s that bad. Too many other options within one mile.
Cool little place...I went there for brunch. I had the bacon, tomato quiche with a side of potatoes and a pear mimosa. It was delicious! The wait staff was friendly. All the other food that was ordered, waffles, shrimp and grits, french toast looked very good as well.
Excellent service. Food was very good.
Lemon rosemary cake. Thats the review. You will not regret getting this - large shareable slide if ordered in and also a wonderful one to order a whole sheet for events.
This restaurant was unexpectedly beautiful. It has great decor and good prices. The food was ok, the lady at the front wasn’t friendly, I guess we went during a busy time, but she looked stressed. I had the chicken with a pecan crust and it was perfectly made but a little bland. We tried the chicken and oysters soup and it was really salty.
Best Pork chop every. Great fathers day, just lovely.
Food was great! Cant wait to go there again!
Ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and added the pecan crusted chicken. What came was linguini with a bland cream sauce and overcooked dry chicken. I added a lot of salt and pepper but the pasta was still bland. The chicken tasted like burnt pecans.Service was good, but there was a wait to seat me in the bar area when most of the restaurant was empty at noon on a Friday.
It was a girlfriends birthday. The waiter was great.
DELICIOUS food. Great service. Yummy coffee.
This place is amazing!!!!! Waiter we had was very friendly and knowledgeable and what he did not know he immediately went to find out. The food was far beyond expectations. Im definitely coming back!
Loved their strawberry cream cheese spread. The croissant could have been heated it was pretty hard.Only order the creme Brule French toast if your wanting dessert. Its Good, but so sweet.Ordered the feta mushroom quiche. It was good mostly loved the crust.Hubby ordered surf and turf benedict looked amazing perfectly poached eggs. For drinks we got the Mexican martini. it had pinneapple vodka, the flavors seemed to evolve from first sip to the next. Also had the jalapeno cucumber margarita was delish would get this on a warm day. Super refreshing.Cute walk up and outdoor seating
This is a great place for date. we went the day before Valentines. they specialize in dessert but everything is very good. An Austin original and well worth a visit. Soups are great and the steal was really good. we love it. i never take pics of food but I did here :)
We went here for Sunday lunch - this puts you in front of their brunch menu. We had reservations over open table - when we got here there were lots of folks waiting so Im glad we had the reservation. As you sit down they bring you a basket of croissants and strawberry butter - they smell and taste awesome! Between the 4 of us we tried 3 types of Benedicts (salmon, sardou - the egg sits on artichoke, crab cake) and huevos rancheros. We also shared the bowl of bacon! Everything was delicious! Service was very friendly and atmosphere was super homey and welcoming. The place is supposed to be famous for their deserts - they have 2 pages of deserts! We would have loved to try some but we were just simply too full! I also tried their cranberry mimosa - interesting but a bit sweet. Lots of parking available and they also have complimentary valet.
Good food, fast service, nice staff. This a great run of the mill restaurant if you want a greasy breakfast. Huge dessert selection. Nothing special with the food but staff are great.
Thus is the first place I always take out of town visitors to begin ATX adventures
Excellent food, service, prices, and atmosphere! Loved it!
Excellent service and the food was great. We split the New Orleans Chicken
Amazing brunch...they were packed but so worth the wait. Yum
Fast, friendly service and excellent food. Came in around 3pm on a Saturday and the place was busy. Had the portobello Benedict which was fantastic! Little on the expensive side but good fresh food with hearty service is worth it.
Great time with son n law and daughter
I have been coming to Chez Zee for several decades now and I love it more than ever! Every year, I celebrate my birthday with a New Years Day brunch with family and they make me feel incredibly special. The food is make to order from fresh ingredients and they have many great gluten free options which, unfortunately, is a requirement for me. The gallery space is wonderful for group luncheons and other gatherings. I love attending the monthly Texas Women in Business luncheon where the food and service is always excellent. I also attending the authors series which is also incredibly well done. Chez Zee is eclectic and whimsical with an Alice in Wonderland feel. If youre looking for baked goods, they have a separate bakery that produces incredible treats, tortes, pies, cakes, etc. I highly recommend trying their take out options or coming in for a lovely meal with friends or family!
I always enjoy my experience at Chez Zee. Ive had romantic dinners, and a celebratory birthday brunch. Ive also taken many meals and desserts to go. Ive never been disappointed in the high quality ingredients used and the attention to detail their chef shows. While dinner is wonderful, I have to encourage you to go to brunch. Try my favorite: Creme Brulee French Toast. You will not be disappointed.
Very good experience with Chez Zee. I ordered food for pickup (its the pandemic), and I brought the food home to realize that there was a mistake. At first was upset, but when I called the restaurant to let them know of the error, the owner drove to my home and dropped off the corrected menu item. I was so pleasantly surprised!! Food is also tasty. :-)
Very good pasta and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about whats on the menu.
Absolutely amazing food and mimosas. The creme brulee French toast is where its at
Lobster Benedict was mediocre... and they dont serve booze before 10 on Sundays! Grrrr...
