Used to be a member of the foggy bottom location and liked it. Not so much this one.-The equipment is probably from the 1980s. Some of the plates are so old they’ve turned red. Yet I’ve been charged multiple enhancement fees.-A lot of the machines are breaking down and don’t get regularly fixed.-The staff is nice but not that helpful. Other locations will actually help you and they have designated staff to hell tidy the weights-Most of the good equipment is in the CrossFit area. If you just want to lift weights you’re second class in this gym.I’ll probably leave soon. I wanted to end my “annual” membership but I learned in the fine text of my contract that it’s actually 13 months. Another scummy move.

Was a long time member. Went to both Thomas Circle and Foggy Bottom locations frequently. Great gym in the DC area, and live the CrossFit programming. Tons of options for fitness there. Go if you can.

I am the kind of person who wants to be more fit and healthy. So, the gym was the best place for me to get fit. I went to this gym for the first time since I just transferred to this place. I was fascinated by the place because it was very wide and has all the equipment. The cost of their service was pocket friendly.

Balance repeatedly failed to cancel my membership. When I initially requested they freeze my membership (about three months into the pandemic) they ignored my request and continued to charge me. After I persistently called and emailed them, they then agreed to give me a refund for those erroneous charges. But, instead of refunding me they charged me the amount they agreed to refund me. Fed up with their antics, I decided to cancel the membership completely. Six months later they are now charging me again for a monthly membership. This only scratches the surfaces of my endless attempts to contact them during the nearly one year that this has dragged on -- virtually all emails and what phone conversations I could actually get with a manager is handled by a different people, who often understand and commit to different things. Absolute nightmare.

Love the location but it can get a bit tight in here. Decent choices for equipment and staff is nice.

I never write reviews, however, given my horrible experience I decided to share. Belonged to this gym for a few months. Everything smells, needs to be cleaned / updated. You can see the machine rust / falling apart. You get what you pay for. Customer service is horrible. There is one woman who has a horrible attitude and closes the gym 15 minutes early than the actual listed closing time and rudely rushed me and other people working out at the gym on multiple occasions. I tried cancelling my membership and they made it extremely difficult and ended up charging me for 2 extra months, despite me moving more than 10 miles away. Overall, bad experience wouldn’t recommend.

I joined this gym with my wife about a year ago after seeing how well kept the place is, and how professional the staff and trainers conducted themselves. We’ve been doing our evening work outs ever since, and I must say, the ties we’ve made with the people here are just beyond words. One of the best gyms in DC, without a doubt.

If you are looking for a gym to really train, that has an environment that motivates you this is the right place for you. They have several floors and rooms with different equipment, each dedicated to its own area. There is a lot of rogue squat racks, which is super cool because you never have to wait if you want to do your main lifts or do compounds and functional stuff at the same time.

Good mix of functional fitness with traditional gym equipment. Lots of space for Olympic lifting too. Unless youre here in the early morning or the evening, there are never too many people which is nice. There are classes offered in the morning, at noon and in the evening - good, varied range of different options.

Fantastic gym. Have been a member since 2012 (Thomas Circle location) and been happy the whole time. Plenty of squat racks and places to perform olympic lifts. GREAT membership options especially compared to the bloodsucking national chain gyms.

Really awesome gym! Lots of squat racks and bars on the second floor. First floor is just for cross fit but the rest of the building is for regular gym members. They also have personal training in a separate studio right on 14th Street.

Best powerlifting gym in DC city limits.I love training here: never have to wait on a squat rack or deadlift platform, great Rouge equipment, including Ohio Power Bars, great music. The community is top notch and staff is great too. This is marketed as a crossfit gym, but it is perfect for powerlifters too. You dont get yelled at for bringing your equipment in with you and in addition to olympic bars they have really nice power bars (OHP). I meet a lot of other powerlifters here too, which is great.

Ive been a member since Jan 2018. I mostly utilize the classes and cardio. There is a good variety of classes throughout the day tailored to the work day schedule. The highlights are Body Pump, spin and yoga classes. There are plenty of cardio machines even at peak times. The employees are friendly enough and helfpul if you ask questions. Its a reasonable price for a gym in downtown DC.

This location used to be unique with a full size turf field space to spread out and workout alone or in a group. They took it out, though to put in more what? Treadmills. Now its cramped just like every other gym in the city.

Easily the best gym in the city, reasonably priced and a great workout atmosphere - nice but not fancy, lots of people serious about fitness. Ive gotten some of my best training advice from staff there, Michael, Stacy, Aesha and others.

Balance is a hidden gem in downtown Washington. Im taking one star off because the spin studio at this location is not great (some broken bikes, not a great Soundsystem, instructor not micd) but everything else about it is great.

Ive been lifting here for about 3 weeks, and so far my experience has been great. Ive spent most of my time in the strength training room, so that is what Im reviewing. The equipment is great. 8 Rogue squat stands, deadlifting platform, no shortage of Standard steel plates and various bumper plates, plenty of barbells, dumbells I think up to 150, and the usual machines. The atmosphere in this room is whats most valuable - there are several competing powerlifters here, and there is serious lifting going on. Positive attitudes, encouragement, respect. This is one of 4 floors, including an entire floor dedicated exclusively for their crossfit program.

One of the worst gyms in DC. Machines are all old- overcrowded to the max! Literally no parking at all, all parking garages close during rush times and street parking is not allowed during rush hour or in morning. Front desk staff unhelpful and gives wrong information. There is a sauna, but no steam room even if management says there is. Coming from equinox I may be biased but I have checked out other gyms including other locations (all have been okay other than this one). I won this membership in a charity and even though Ive been several times to different locations no one can ever help with setting up the package or personal training. I hate to complain as I have never yelped negative thoughts- but I hope this helps in gym shopping and helps management pull together.
