Great gym with even better staff! I went to this gym weekly for a little over two years and have been really happy with my experience overall. It’s a small but well-appointed gym. Lots of cardio machines, a pool, and plenty of lifting equipment - 1 bench press station, 3 squat racks, and 2 platforms (one that also has a squat rack). I mostly came here to lift in the mornings and it was never too crowded. I didn’t attend many group classes, but the ones I did were small (
Terrible customer service. have reached out multiple times regarding my billing and they only responded when it was convenient for them. Once they took a good chunk of money out of my account, they stopped responding to my emails regarding my membership cancellation. First time I even emailed them, I had to follow up a week later to even get a response. The second time, I had to follow up again, call in several times, and still no response. Although the facility is nice, its really not worth it for its price. $99/month for a tight squeezed gym facility??? Equinox just about a block away offers more for around the same price. Saw a response from Balance Gym to one of the reviews about how hotel guests rave out how spacious it is lol. They are on vacation so for a hotel gym yes the size is adequate. Those people are not working out there daily, for a member who is NOT just a temporary hotel guest the gym is not spacious at all. Also, one of the front desk staff members is super rude. She is very condescending and unhelpful. When I asked her to assist me with an issue, she gave me a rude look and very little information as if Im paying $20/month. I payed even less than that at Planet Fitness and got way better customer service from their staff
Very nice place to work out. It has everything I need. I especially like the pool and spa.
Trashy gym. Not surprised. Fairmont hotel is a luxury hotel and its a shame this gym is inside that hotel. I have reviewed the Thomas circle location so this one is exactly similar to that. Its just nice cause it has a pool and a big dry steam room. But you better off going to equinox. The staff here is rude. The people who come here are also rude. The Gm jocylyn likes to gossip and spread rumors about people in a passive aggressive tone. Me and my twin brother were memebers here and she always confused us and couldn’t tell us apart. Like hello? Talk about someone who is not even invested in its membersBalance was a nice gym like 5 years ago. I think covid has taken a toll on its customer service. I leftThem to be treated like my money matters.equinox at city center is where gym is a gym. Dont spend $ on this high school gym.I ended up saying something to Fairmont hotel cause they are a name people know them for. I basically told them its a shame a gym like that is in your luxurious hotel. They said they are not surprised. Many have said that about that gym. And the hotel and gym are totally separate from each other. Coming from big cities I have high expectations for places and this place just seems like a chill vibe where people dont care about anything. They lost the passion. If you wana be depressed and not motivated then come to fairmont balance gym.
Excellent review for Foundation Fitness. I had been training for a bit over a month and saw significant improvements. Not only will one get excellent personal training
It is a pleasure and a relaxation to keep your body in good shape. Compliment for compliance with covid 19 rules
Absolute nightmare. When I initially requested they freeze my membership (about three months into the pandemic) they ignored my request and continued to charge me. After I persistently called and emailed them, they then agreed to give me a refund for those erroneous charges. But, instead of refunding me they charged me the amount they agreed to refund me. Fed up with their antics, I decided to cancel the membership completely. Six months later they are now charging me again for a monthly membership. This only scratches the surfaces of my endless attempts to contact them during the nearly one year that this has dragged on -- virtually all emails and what phone conversations I could actually get with a manager is handled by a different people, who often understand and commit to different things. Absolute nightmare.
Mask required. Social distance by 6 to 10 feet. Thermometer at entrance but they don’t check for temperature. You have to reserve a time slot and its good for 1:15hr (hour and fifthteen minutes) to allow the workers to come in and sanitize for the next group. They’ll give a 10 minute warning before your time is up
Good customer service but boy what a basic gym this is. I was a member at foggy bottom location and I can say that I have seen hotel gyms bigger than this. This is a very small gym for the membership cost. Machines are always being used and this gym gets crowded. I wouldnt recommend joining this gym during Covid. People are literally on top of each other. Not safe at all.
The.best.gym in West End
They have a swimming pool, sauna and beautiful locker room. It was not easy to locate since it was inside a hotel on their lower level.
I will NEVER recommend Balance Gym to anyone again. I joined with the intention of having a short term gym membership, from February to May. They told me since I would be moving more than three miles from a Balance Gym, my $99 cancellation fee would be waived. Then, Covid-19 happened and they closed the gym. I continued to pay for my membership for the remaining two months I was in DC, without using their gym once out of good faith. What do I get in return? When I try to cancel my membership, balance informs me that there will be a $99 cancellation fee, and that I will have to pay until July 17th! As an unemployed college grad, I can’t afford this and the fact that they told me I could leave in May without fees and then try and charge me a fee and a whole extra month is just wrong. This is the worst gym experience I have ever had in my life. Beware of the predatory business practices Balance Gym uses to get members and keep them.
Really happy that they have a program for children to learn to swim on the weekend (half the pool is still set aside for other members). The staff are always really courteous and have been great. The facilities are always clean.
I love everything except the pool is not deep enough. It only goes to 3ft on both ends instead of to 5ft on the other end.The dressing room and shower areas are so well attended and clean. The sauna and Whirlpool are to die for. They are so relaxing.Every method of workout you could dream of the have including CrossFit.It is a pleasure to go there.
There are so many gyms in DC. I have already been a member of 4 for the last two years of living here. To be fair, the rest weren’t so bad. But the reason why I decided to stay with Balance Gym is the excellent relationship build with they give their customers. There’s nothing like it.
Clean lockers, friendly staff and well maintained equipment!👍
Great gym, very clean, has all the equipment I need, nice salt water pool. Very nice staff. Great location.
UPDATE: The gym did renovate its locker room, but its been shut down since COVID, so I cant really tell if the lockers are fixed. The front desk is rude. The woman who is usually running it acts like its her gym, and not something Im paying a lot for. She doesnt really make me feel welcome there, and is seriously making me reconsider continuing my Balance membership, especially given the amount Im paying and the number of different fitness options out there.*********I have been going to this gym for 2+ years. I have noticed the quality of the gym has been deteriorating a bit. In the ladies locker room, many of the lockers dont work. One night, I had to change lockers five times to find one that would lock. There are also only two traditional elliptical machines now...and a lot of new fancy cardio equipment that I have no idea how to use. The handles on one of the elliptical machines is worn, and feels like it will fall off soon.Otherwise, the front desk is always polite, the locker rooms are nice and clean, and the gym is pretty clean. Just hope they fix the womens locker room situation soon!
Love this Gym! They have all the equipment and the staff are all friendly and supportive. The perfect environment to get the body you aspire to have and the lifestyle you crave!
Hands down the best gym Ive ever used/been a member of. The locker room in the Foggy Bottom location is always pristine and has beautiful showers, clean warm towels, hair dryers, deodorant, hair spray, makeup wipes, cotton balls, q-tips, lotion, straighteners - anything you could need. And theres a sauna in the locker room! The classes were my absolute favorite part, though. After awhile, I almost exclusively was going to their classes, every day, sometimes twice a day! The instructors are so awesome (especially Kathleen, Chris, and Sarah!) and theres such a good variety of classes (lifting, bootcamp, cycling, bodypump, yoga, HIIT, crossfit, barre, pilates, and more). The location was beyond convenient for me, too. I unfortunately had to move out of the area after only 7 months of being a member here, but honestly, this gym is the one thing I miss the most from living in DC. I looked forward to every day because I knew I could start it with a killer workout at this gym.
Awesome gym, complete with modern locker room and showers. Even has shampoo, conditioner, body wash & lotion for you to use!
Gym in the basement of a hotel. The layout is a little labyrinthine, but there are a good selection of free weights, machines, cardio equipment... you name it.Offers classes and crossfit. On the plus side, a membership here is very reasonably priced compared to other gyms in the area. One caveat - both times Ive visited, the weight room was packed. If youre looking to squat, press, or deadlift, you may have to wait a while for one of the 7 bars to free up.UPDATE - I told the GM I was a little disappointed with how busy the gym was. He too was shocked how busy it had been (second week of February). Told me to come back next week as part of a promotion to see if things had calmed down. It was a huge difference. The weight room always had at least one bar/platform available, and I didnt feel like I was getting in peoples way.I signed up for a membership at the end of the week.
Quite honestly, I dont think I can say enough good things about CrossFit Foggy Bottoms programming. Having done it now for just under a year, I can say that I am fitter, healthier, and generally more positive because of the coaches and staff at the gym. Having heard a number of complaints about CrossFit prior to joining, I was skeptical, but they quickly removed that and replaced it with a rekindled passion for working out. The vibe is laid back, friendly, and communal. No doubt about it, the workouts are tough, but thats why you want to go to a gym like this. They push you to reach and extend your limits in a way that does not feel overly forced. The coaches are committed to helping you work on form, to adjust your program as needed for injuries (or sleep deprivation), and its just a great, great place to work out.
I have worked out at a half-dozen boxes across the country with a few different instructors at each, and Jim Bathurst is hands down the best coach Ive come into contact with. Fortunately for CrossFit Foggy Bottom, he is one of several great trainers.
The best fitness center in DC. The balance community is the best.Crossfit foggy bottom is a very welcoming environment with lots of interesting people.
Great gym for those interested in powerlifting or CrossFit. Highly recommended for a variety of fitness needs.
A CrossFit box that programs excellently. The trainers are professional and know what they are talking about.
One stop with everything you need fitness and wellness, very clean.
Best places ever and best coaches, stuffs and friendly people and crossfit members are awesome.
Friendly staff, clean locker room .private type place
I found CrossFit Foggy Bottom through a Yelp review and initially thought it sounded too good to be true. Having visited a few CF boxes (gyms) in the past that were basically garages modified into a gym, I had never heard the types of comments about a facility. All I need to say is that I was blown away by everything. The CrossFit area has everything you could need from full racks, bars, rubber weights, ropes, kettle balls, medicine balls, etc. The coaches (instructors) are very helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. Ive worked closest with Jim and Olga who are both fantastic coaches and athletes who practice themselves and set examples. The motto is Keep it Classy and this describes it perfectly.Additionally, the location inside a Fairmont hotel allows benefit from all facilities including great bathrooms, sauna, pool, lifting/cardio area, free towel service, free lockers, and great Paleo take-out.Without sounding over the top in commendation, this is the best gym Ive ever been to and wish I wasnt leaving DC so I could continue here. Highly recommended for at least a free visit for which they are very accommodating.TL;DR - Fantastic facility that holds up to all the other reviews.
Good but not great. But they have a pool.
I came to this box to try it out after finally succumbing to my Crossfit curiosity after watching the games on ESPN. I took the intro class with Jim and I was immediately certain this was the right spot for me.I worked closest with Jim, Olga and Mary Scott while working out here and I found the coaching to be truly first class. The evening classes can be a little busy (but theyre capped at 16 so its never too overwhelming) and Jim has such a solid background in Crossfit/PT/Gymnastics/Weight Lifting/being a legend that he always makes sure the programming is well thought out, challenging but also fun. Dodgeball to warm up? Definitely a Friday regular at this box.For those frightened to try Crossfit, I would say that there is a really wide spectrum of people in the classes from the fitness machines to the currently overweight & from young to old. This makes for interesting groups and everyone is always super encouraging during workouts - something which all of the coaches actively cultivate. There is also the availability of the gym/swimming pool outside of classes - which is definitely an added bonus that not many crossfit locations have. The facilities are first class since the box is inside the Fairmont hotel. Locker rooms, showers and the swimming pool are all top notch and theres also paleo food delivery if youre struggling to combine your workout with grabbing food for lunch. This is not your average industrial looking box.I would recommend this place to anyone looking to try Crossfit for the first time and for folks who are well experienced in WODs! Great coaches, great equipment and great people!
Love this place
The best coaches ever!
Great facility, friendly staff, and hardly ever over crowded
Nice box
Love
Dont go here.
I am very satisfied with the service provided in it, very grateful 100% recommended
Box well equipped and located. Nice coach and well-balanced training.
