There arent enough places that really know how to make short hair look great. Its not about an even cut. Its about paying attention to the head youre working with. That said, this place will give you an amazing cut in a relaxed, friendly, classic barber shop atmosphere. I totally suggest Gerric as your barber but regardless, you wont be disappointed. Oh, and be nice to Ms June at the front door and shell give you an unforgettable smile!

I just had my 3rd cut at Signature, all from different stylists, all excellent cuts. I started going there after being a customer of the Connecticut Ave. Hair Cuttery for over 20 years before they closed down. Im glad to count myself as a Signature customer now. Good service, good people and a really nice neighborhood vibe.

I have given this place two attempts and both were absolutely horrendous. First you’ll make an appointment with a specific barber and you’ll walk in and get told they aren’t there, it’s always the same 1-2 barbers that you have left. Why even give the option to choose ?? AC is always broken, feels like a sauna in there. Both times I asked for a fade hard part neck clean up (literally the regular cut $50 that includes all of that plus towel) barbers do not know how to use the straight razor so they don’t do it and take about 10 minutes instead of 40 and rush you out. You still get charged the $50 even though they did none of the services. Avoid this place at all costs.

Avoid Chanelle who is at the first chair on the left unless you are bald. She cut my hair on 6/14/21 and pandered about how covid was tough, she’s broke and her birthday is coming up but she doesn’t want to do anything for it because it’s so much effort and money because her male twin counterpart doesn’t contribute. As a new transplant to the city who is couch surfing and working odd jobs until I get settled in I was able to sympathize with her. We talked about me getting the haircut so I could go apply for jobs and look professional. The basic men’s haircut of a #2 on the sides and faded up to a bit longer on top was my request. No fade up was done, maybe she didn’t hear me. $50 haircut that took her 15 minutes, dang this city is expensive. I still tried to do the right thing in these times and added a $15 tip. The following morning I noticed a spot on the left side that didn’t get trimmed even with the rest. No big deal, I’m staying 2 blocks away, I’ll just walk over and request it be touched up. She’s there, I wait, explain why I’m back, remind her we did a #2 on the sides, she agrees to fix it, does the buzzer trim then proceeds to trim with scissors to make sure it is short enough. She asks me if it’s ok and I respond by saying I don’t have my glasses but as long as it’s even with the other side we are all good. She tells me it is and I head back to where I’m staying. Once I can get a good look I see that she didn’t bother to actually even things out and just cut it shorter to the point where it’s just as noticeable as the first issue she created by being lazy. To me this is unacceptable and especially at the price paid. I go back and sternly demand a refund, it’s only myself the woman working the register and the woman who cut my hair. She proceeded to give me attitude, called me disrespectful for calling her out and tried to push the blame onto me for not checking before I left both times. What’s disrespectful in my eyes is pandering, doing a bad job, not caring to actually make it right when confronted and blaming the customer for not making sure she did her job correctly. The woman on the register was very kind and handled the refund professionally, the man who answered the phone and was on the register the first day was also very professional.

I went to Signature Cuts on March 18th, 2021 and they did me very well. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by a very nice lady with a smile that you can see through her mask to the end of your cut. This LGBT friendly black owned barbershop is one that I definately recommend! Although it is a bit on the pricey side for non-city folks it is well worth every penny and keeps the old school barbershop feel before Sports Clips and Great Clips became major chains. This barbershop really reminded me of getting my haircut back home and where the most inspiration in my life started. I 15/10 recommend this barbershop especially for their 15% Military discount. The nice lady at the register is fairly enthusiastic when it comes to giving military personnel their 15% off. Are you LGBT? Are you military? Stop by Signature Cuts and get your haircut today!

Went in for the Executive Cut and Baby Face Shave which both include hot towel and straight razor. The barber lined me up with a buzzer and was like okay you’re good to go and when I pointed out I paid for a straight razor shave he caught an attitude. On top of that I asked for a straight line up on my beard and he screwed up both sides made them uneven and at the beard line at the bottom of my neck looks like a Congressional district. The worst part is it cost $100. Avoid this place, there are better and cheaper places in DC.

I think this place has some of the most talented barbers and grooming experts in the city. Whether youre looking for a fresh shape up or a close shave, these guys (and gals) know how to keep you looking your best. They even sell a small selection of grooming products, especially for the aspiring or expert level beardsmiths (get the Lure Zone Beard Oil). Theyre not your typical stuffy grooming lounge, where you can only get in by appointment. You can schedule a time or just drop in and someone will take care of you.

I’ve been coming to Signature Cuts and Shaves for almost 2 years now. I show up today at 12pm for my appointment and had to wait outside because the shop wasn’t open yet (not the first time this has happened).I waited for 20 minutes for my barber to show up after the shop opened late. Once someone finally got a hold of him, he claimed the appointment never showed on his calendar and wouldn’t be to the shop for a while. I booked this appointment several days in advance and got multiple notifications reminding me of my appointment. I find it unlikely he didn’t get the reminder of the appointment.Thankfully someone else was there to cut my hair but I was still very frustrated that it wasn’t being done by the person who has been cutting it for almost a year. For the prices this barber shop is charging, the service should be much better. My barber should show up and be on time for his appointment. I shouldn’t have to wait outside because people working there can’t show up to open the shop on time. My barber who I’ve been giving generous tips for for over a year now should have called and apologized. After being loyal to this place for 2 years, I’ll be moving my business elsewhere after today’s experience.

Made an appointment with Julian, got 2 texts and an email confirming my appointment so I figured everything was set up. I got to the barber and all the barbers stared at me and asked if I had an appointment. When I said yes and with Julian they said he wasn’t there and wouldn’t be there so one of the barbers pointed to the lady who was behind the cash register. I didn’t see her barber certificate so I was already concerned. She asked me “how short?” Which made me want to get up and run. Big red flag. I showed her pictures of what I wanted and gave her special instructions, she immediately put the clippers on my head and cut it too short on the sides. The shop as a whole was a mess, the sinks were filled with towels and other things you might find in a barber shop while most of the drawers were broken or filled at each station.Upon getting home and running my hands through my hair I found she cut it unevenly all the way around. For $50 I felt completely ripped off— I’ve heard of better experiences from super cuts for half the price. I was asked to pay in cash as well, even though they have a card reader and square cash iPad set up.I never review places but I feel like I need to warn everyone I know to stay away from this place. There are much better barbers/sanitary shops in DC.

This was my first trip to Signature Cuts and Shaves. I scheduled an appointment with Julian, and showed up 10 minutes before my appointment was set to begin. When I walked up, I told two barbers outside that I had an appointment with Julian, with they responded to with confusion, saying that I should talk to the woman at the front desk. This woman gestured to a man (who I learned to be Khoi after my appointment by visiting the website) and said “he can help you.” No one explained who Julian was or why he wasn’t cutting my hair. When I was seated, Khoi asked how I wanted my hair cut. I haven’t had it cut in a few months, so I asked him for his input on what would look good. He just said “okay” and began getting his tools out, which made me fear that he was just going to give me a random haircut without consulting me. To guide him, I said I wanted a fade on the sides and to leave it nice and long on top so I could style it. He responded with “regular haircut, got it” and began cutting.Khoi did not give me what I wanted, it’s much shorter on top than what I asked for. He was extremely cavalier when cutting and did not once ask for my input, which I’ve never had a barber do before. I could get this haircut at any other barbershop for $15, but I went to this barbershop and inexplicably paid $50.

If you’re looking for a top-notch cut or shave, I wouldn’t hesitate to send anyone to Julian and his team at Signature Cuts & Shaves. As a customer of two years, I always leave the shop feeling fresh and confident. Julian, the shop’s frontman, is a very talented barber in his own right and despite the fact that the shop is almost always busy, he is very thorough, giving each and every one of his customers the star treatment. I highly recommend Julian as well as Andy, who also gives a great cut. I can’t say enough about the openness and inclusiveness of the shop and the barbers who cater to a highly diverse clientele that is truly representative of the entire DC community.

Barbers are great. Sad however to see this response I got to some feedback I gave them after my last appointment, (especially when I was going out of my way for about a year to get my haircut at this barber shop to begin with):“Really bummed to see the price increase. I only kept coming back for the quality of service even though the price was a bit high. 50 dollars is too much for a simple haircut, and I refuse to tip anything less than 20%. Really sad to say, but I wont be able to afford coming back twice a month.”“Sorry to hear this, but we are still relatively low on price for a professional hair cut in DC. Hopefully you will realize that after trying other places and see that it’s worth the price. Thanks”Plenty other locations in NW DC provide the same quality haircut for $20.

The barber shop is nice and has a lot of potential. The problem is I dont think you get what you pay for. I paid 40$ for a cut my regular barber does for 20 and the service wasnt any better. The barbers dont seem confident in thier work. It feels like a high end salon for men. The establishment is great but the Barbers need to step up the game. Be more engaging or at least perfect your craft. Your work is all about energy and the energy there was dull. I hope they brighten up and tighten up the flow in that place. Its in a great spot I know rent is high but the money was not worth the cut I got.

Came from out of town for my engagement and needed a shape up and beard line up badly. Googled babrbers in DC and this place was the first one and looked reputable. So I decided to give it a try. My babrber was very nice but did not give me a straight razor line up for beard and sides of the forehead. No hot towel treatment, no shampoo and no razor neck edge up, no face massage with the hot face towel. His clippers were not the precision clippers Im used to so I went with it. My neck line was uneven and the haircut was decent. At the time of payment, im thinking ok $40 maybe $50 tops, the lady says $75 bucks. Shockingly I paid without questioning her. Im from NY where barbers give way more sharper cuts and you leave the establishment feeling smooth and clean and crisp. In my case I felt like a pig with lipstick. I wouldnt recommend this place unless you want to waste your money. For $75 bucks I should have gotten a massage and maybe a manicure along with my haircut. Freindly staff but not worth it. Save your money and go to the barber next door.

See, before I showed up at the Signature shop I felt uneasy about what I couldnt see had just happened to my head at the other salon. I had thought, maybe it was just my head or just my hair, insecurities a plenty. Alas, it was neither. Clearly I was in need of some life saving class to avoid any further ridicule. I went to Julian one night for a haircut and he was very cordial. He asked me questions about where I was from and my profession. Yes it seemed very innocent on the surfaces at first. However, there was a slight inclination that I was being judged based on these answers. I felt as if I was being interviewed to be a customer there. There is no secret his clientele is mostly caucasion so I know he is more comfortable with that demographic. Being an African American I felt unwelcomled in his shop. Sad to see a black owned business being coductes in such a manner. Moreover, the prices are exstortionately high for quality that is not above average. I never write reviews because it not my thing but felt very strongly about this experience. Ultimately, I said maybe it was just a bad first impression so I called back for an appointment. Julian picked up and was very reluctant to cut my hair and referred me to someone else. Though this may be coincidence there is a lot of correlation.

TLDR - stay away from Gerric - for just a clean up I walked away with an entirely different hair cut, sloppy cut, razor burn marks on my face. The most expensive and worst hair cut Ive ever had.Im picky about my hair, but never picky enough to leave bad reviews on first time visits to a new barber, I understand it takes a few visits to get it right. But when youre paying $75+ after tip, I think you should at least come close, or walk away feeling like the next visit will be the one. This guy fell completely short of any standard this place would hope to have.Today I had a clean up and beard trim with Gerric. I received the most expensive, worst cut Ive ever. Gerric used a straight razor to edge around my face, he missed all kinds of hairs, worst edging job, but worse than that, I have razor burn marks where he went too deep around my face. It looks like Ive been in a fight almost. Im glad I dont have any professional meetings lined up for a few days...Gerric was very difficult to communicate with, he was chewing on what looked like a bully stick, dog chew, the entire time. He seemed confused when I told him I wanted to keep the top long but just clean up the tips, and take the back around the crown slightly shorter. He became really frustrated when I didnt want him to wet my hair down with a spray bottle - He ultimately gave me a high fade that went beyond the sides of my head, all the way up past my crown.I cant speak for the other barbers, but Gerric does not provide the level of service to justify the price points at this barbershop. Save your wallet and your face, find someone else or somewhere else.
