Impossible to get in touch with anyone. Emailed and Called Bill McCabe several times over the course of two weeks. Got nothing. Called the front desk several times today. Nothing. They have the least helpful website on the planet that contains no actual relevant or useful information. They are offering memberships for $4 bucks because no one is coming back. One would think that they would try to have decent customer service for people THAT ARE TRYING TO GIVE THEM MONEY!!!!!!!!
We had twins that were babies and Id been inside for 3 1/2 weeks during a snowy and icy winter in 2013. Our family lived out-of-state. The babies were 10 months old and we joined the Kent County YMCA. After a month or two, I could leave the babies in the Kids Care room for two hours... well... I usually had to go change a diaper, but then I could go back and do yoga. Or swim. Or walk on the treadmill. Or - best of all - sit on the recumbent bike and leisurely read a magazine. I really like the staff in the Kids Care, and the front desk staff were always kind and welcoming.Having family out-of-state, I really needed those smiles. I highly recommend the Kent County YMCA. There is an integrity in the staff that I appreciate. They do the right thing. It is a safe place for the community, and it is easy to sit in the lobby, have a snack with the kids, and then let them have fun in the Kids Care. I would watch the kids through the huge wall-length glass window whenever I felt like it. Or, when they were babies, I would sneak over the side of the babies area and make sure they were okay. They (mostly) always were. Lots of toys, big mats, lots of staff. Kind people. Babies smiling. Mommy happy. If there was a problem, the staff would find me and let me know. It is a very safe place to leave babies and kids. Weve been going since 2013.
They like to fire people without coming up with proper information considering the employee as well. Luckily at the time I didn’t have access to a lawyer back then.
Its great for the kids! They love the playroom with the bouncy castle. Its clean and most of the staff are friendly. The pool is nice. We are glad we joined.
We have been YMCA members for 18 years. We just moved to Providence last month. Since we were late to arrive here for summer camps, we were not able to sign our son up for a lot of camps. Luckily the Kent County YMCA had an opening this week. They are such a friendly and well-organized YMCA. Everything is clearly explained and the website has all the necessary information for membership and special programs like camps. I highly recommend this YMCA both for using a gym and attending classes as well as special programs like camps for kids.
Great family facility. Children center is fantastic, complete with bouncy house. Gym is decent size. Other amenities include a basketball court, pool, and classes. Courteous staff and clean environment. Definitely worth a look to see if it meets your needs.
This is a Y?Youd think it was a private club. Love this place.First off if you have kids they have a big playroom with childcare. They take them very young (not sure how young but babies for sure) up until around 10 it looks like. Kids love going to the playroom while you get a workout in.They have lots of classes, good swim times at the pool, and an impressive amount of stationary bikes, elliptical machines, treadmills, rowing machines, free weights, machines, etc. I really cant say enough about how impressive this Y is.
I joined when I was pregnant and initially loved the kent county location. Everyone was wonderful to me while I went through a difficult pregnancy and took the classes I had the energy for. Instructors were wonderful about accommodating me so that I could participate and get the most out of my workout. I was repeatedly told during my tour about how great the childcare would be once baby came. However I just returned for the first time postpartum and was told that even though I was given a tour of the childcare facilities and they were explained to me during my initial tour, they are not included and are actually an additional $50 a month. Imagine my surprise To have kept my membership active throughout the end of my pregnancy and early postpartum to be told that none of that was accurate. Went in today and Not only could I not use the services I was told were included, I found out I wasted all of that money keep my membership active postpartum.
Great place to go. Good for families with kids. Im a night owl so I would like it if they were open a bit later and the free-weight area gets a bit cramped, but overall they have most things you need for a good work out. Pool is clean and change facilities are clean and bright.
Relatively clean facility with multiple recreational areas however staff can be rather temperamental and classes mediocre. Our interest in swim lessons prompted our visit to this YMCA; however, we were met with a rather rude, unwelcoming aquatics director who either did not answer our questions or brushed them off in a pompous manner. The aquatics classes left much to be desired -- The lessons taught relative to the skills required for progression to subsequent swim levels are out of sync and give an impression of a haphazard teaching schedule; this, combined with discrepant records on any given students enrolled class -- computer records stating one thing, teachers apparently thinking theyre teaching another thing, and enrollment staff trying to decipher the entanglement -- is more than disconcerting, especially given the importance of properly synchronizing teaching skills to the degree of risk associated with interacting amidst a water environment.Suffice to say that since our initial introduction -- and after having subsequently participated in various activities at this YMCA -- deficiencies in the aquatics program and a deceptively subtle yet ever-persistent chip on the shoulder demeanor by the aquatics director has prompted us to look elsewhere for a more suitable, hospitable YMCA (Sad to express that at one time this same fellow went so far as to glare at us and, of all things, twirl around a stick while we respectfully picked up some chips that we accidentally spilled on the lobby floor). What once appeared to be a large, clean, well-equipped facility eventually revealed outweighing character flaws. Well migrate to another facility that exemplifies a welcoming, safe, overall healthy learning and recreational atmosphere for adults as well as our children.
Didn’t realize how much of an amazing YMCA this was till I had to go to others due to moving. Great job guys!
This place has a fantastic and fun kid area where they will watch your kids while you use the facilities. Or you can come and play with your kids in a safe monitored environment. The wellness center (fitness) area could use an update or more equipment. There is only one squat rack and if it is leg day, you may be waiting a while.
This is an awesome place for anyone they have a nice pool, gym, play area for the kids, they have workout programs as well... this YMCA also has a really nice camp behind the building with ponds and a water sprinkler park the people that work here are very nice and professional.
Have been a member for nearly 30 years. Much better equipment and more fitness options/programming than most private health clubs. Great place to go with kids as well!
The staff is great. There’s so many activities to take part in. From the indoor basket ball court and pool and the workout area, to the playground and campground area to the side of the establishment. It’s great for all kinds of families! It creates a very friendly community!
Extremely clean, spacious, attractive and up-to-date facility with kind, welcoming staff. Huge selection of equipment and wide range of classes. You can even trade your keys to borrow a lock for the locker while youre there--not every Y is so thoughtful and considerate, or welcoming.
Go there 3 times a week. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Good equipment for retired folks.
What a great YMCA! I love the variety of gym equipment, the people at the welcome desk and the instructors! I would definitely recommend this branch, and the Y as a whole.
Been very happy with the pool and its instructors.
Fantastic gym with a pool and all the amenities you could need. Great for the family!
Like it a lot. Great classes and instructors. Large choice and take suggestions. Clean and very careful about when goes in and out.
The group classes are great. Fitness professionals there are #1.
One of the best Y branches of the Providence family of branches. Clean, modern, great family/play/child watch section.
The Kent County YMCA offers a host of choices to get or keep you on your path to fitness. A huge room full of work out equipment, a pool, yoga class, Zumba class, basketball court, sauna, clean locker rooms, and an incredibly friendly and helpful staff! A very accepting environment! 5 *s!
Staff is friendly and helpful. Lots of good activities. A really nice YMCA.
This branch has had better days. The staff is not as friendly as it use to be.
Amazing family sport place. Love it and my kids do too

It just keeps getting better year after year.
Nice community, good offerings for workouts.
Love this Y. Friendly staff, great equipment, clean. Wish I lived closer.
The best child care services while you work out by far. Could use a couple more racks.
I love this YMCA, there is always something to do!
Love it here amazing staff and equipment
Very good facilities, the gym is a little warm and lockers are outdated and Rusty but all the machines are newer and the pool is very nice.
Cancel activities left and right, pool was closed several times for maintenance. In the workout area there are usually warning cones and wet spots from where there is leaking making things a bit dangerous. I left voice messages for a staff member to call me back for almost a month and never heard back. Then I was told it was because they had changed systems and had lost all voice messages.
First time visit and a complete tour was offered emedietly. This place has everything. Im sold!
