I took my dog there, and at the place they were fine. But weeks later, though I know the lab tests they took have been delivered, theres no way to get in touch with the vet to see what the lab results mean or what I should do with my dog. Unresponsive when you call (youre just put on hold and you dont get to talk to a vet). I wouldnt go there again.
Incredible experience with the internists and criticalists here who really took time to evaluate and care for our Luna who had kidney failure and pancreatitis. She’s doing so much better now!
I didnt have a good experience with this practice. The doctors are knowledgeable and absolutely capable of performing certain procedures and giving you the right diagnosis, but they were always too busy (or arrogant?) to explain the treatment plan, side effects of the medications prescribed, etc., and that lack of information influenced my decisions. For the money spent here, one would expect to get more than two minutes of attention per exam. Unfortunately, these expectations were unrealistic in my case.I simply didnt understand why certain procedures were recommended, or why my prescription was not filled on time... This facility was horrible at communicating with me and my pets treatment team, which to me seems completely disrespectful and unprofessional. In the midst of fighting the disease my pet struggled with, I had to go through this facilitys ignorance and lack of professionalism or basic empathy. In the end, this whole experience made it difficult to trust AVIM and often left me feeling frustrated, hopeless, and puzzled. Dont expect your calls or emails to be returned and prepare to beg for their attention if your pet is seriously ill and you need information on your pets treatment plan, medication, or updates.Oh, and so you know, there will be no words of support or a sympathy call or card from your primary vet if your pet ends up dying. Why would they waste their valuable time on a dead animal and its grieving family when they dont even care to talk to you while your little friend is still alive?!If you can choose whom to talk to, Alexandra, the receptionist, is great at her job.
The place that is attached to this place vet surgical center is top notch. They did a great job on my dogs surgery couldn’t Recommend them any more. This 24 hour place on the other hand apparently they only work when they want. Drove over an hour to bring my dog here because the leg she had surgery on wasn’t working and she was whimpering not able to use it. This place is attached to the surgery center. I figured it would be great all the sam. That’s a big NO. They told me they couldn’t see my dog because they were done for the night only if it was life or death. So I guess if they think your dog is worth it they’ll take a look at them. Good luck I wouldn’t recommend them if you’re in a pinch. I’m also writing this at midnight which is the advised time on their website to bring non life threatening cases (12am-4am).
I finally know why the score of this hospital is so poor. Today my dog fell from the stairs and his legs couldn’t fall on the ground. We came to this hospital and the dog was carried in by them at five o’clock. We were waiting in the hospital parking lot. We waited until 9 o’clock in the evening, and there was no news. No, I called and asked about the progress. They said it hasnt started yet, which means that we waited for four hours for nothing and they did nothing.....If your hospital is busy, you can tell the guests that you don’t need to be here. Keep waiting, but they don’t say anything, their service can be said to be really non-existent
Just brought my dog to this place they turned my dog away as his leg is bleeding. Don’t come here it’s a joke
WOW! I just called to make an appointment and was trying to explain by reading the report from the radiologist what was needed and the receptionist interrupted me to say, Are you trying to make an appointment and what is it for? I stated, Yes, and I was reading what the radiologist report stated so that you would understand for what specifically, Have a good day, good bye.I was going to give them a try although there are multiple bad reviews, I was proceeding with caution. I immediately decided upon this interaction that there will be better places to take my pet.Update in response to the Owners reply: Thank you for replying.IF in fact the reception had asked if my pet was referred for an ultrasound (as you have written in the reply) I would NOT have written the review, that would have been reasonable to discuss the procedure that my pet was referred for.She was rude and interrupted me when I was explaining that there were several referral requests that I was reading from the referring veterinarian to inquire which to schedule first or if they could be combined. I had already stated that I needed to make an appointment when she answered, that fact was established from the inception of the call.
Its never easy when you have to leave your pet in someone elses care when they are sick or not feeling well. My family and I were so grateful for the care that we received from AVIM. Our dog Lilo was diagnosed with Cushings Disease and received the best care and treatment from Dr Vorathavorn and her staff. We always felt confident that Lilo was going to be safe and well taken care of every time we dropped her off. Dr Vorathavorn, Rianna and the rest of the staff always took time to address all my questions, concerns and walked us thru the process each and every time.My family and I greatly appreciate AVIM.
A review in Haiku...River Sends Her ThanksFor Taking Good Care Of HerWe Are So Grateful!
They will use fear and create a sense of urgency to over-charge for treatments, tests, procedures, and surgery. I was concerned for my dogs life, they were concerned about charging my credit card. Sadly, I went through this twice with them. The first time I Spent $7,000.The second time I should of known better but fell for it again. The well being of my dog didn’t improve until my new vet ordered medication and now he is fine!
Will never recommend this Vet to anyone. After spending thousands of dollars there and when my dog was in distress and I called them I never got a response. My sweet dog died that night! They gave him a clean bill of health the day before with Xray etc and the next day he was gone.
Thank you, Dr Peter Sebestyen, and staff for taking good care of my cat Ace back in December 2019 with his fibrosarcoma, Im so thankful for you guys. You guys added more months of life to him and Im sad to say he passed this Thursday 3/26/2020. I want to again thank you guys for giving me more time with him. I appreciate all you taking care of my Ace.
Be careful to know what youre being charged for at Advanced Veterinary Internal Medicine! We took our cat in on a Sunday because he hadnt eaten or drank for 3 days and we didnt want to take a chance and wait until Monday. They did all sorts of tests and told us that the cost wouldnt exceed $4600. I was led to believe that that included surgery if necessary, but then they wanted to charge us another $6000 for surgery the next day! We retrieved our cat and brought him to our regular vet, and the surgery was 1/3 of the cost. Thankfully the cat is recovering.AVIM is a SPECIALTY clinic, so beware.
I have read some of the reviews that have 1 or 2 stars and I get it. This vet and any other vet can be expensive! What I dont get is why you would rate them so low since they offer the best specialty medicine around. I have a senior dog with a heart issue. I found the staff very friendly and compassionate. There were tests they wanted to run that I could simply not afford. They drastically reduced the costs so that they could better evaluate my dog. That was two years ago and Lady is still with us today because of this group. The are special, they are advanced but they do not do tests that are not necessary. The only reason that it is not a 5 is because it is expensive.
This place went above and beyond to help me and my Goldie. I came here to write a review which I rarely do because the service I received from a wonderful nurse named was just excellent. She calmed me down and was really great with my dog. Answered and explained every question I had and just made an unfortunate event as easy as it could every be. Thank you for the great service Tammy! You can tell when one is going the extra mile and are are doing it because they get joy out of helping people. Thats Tammy. I hope I never have to go to a vet hospital again, but if I have to, definitely this place.
GREAT GREAT GREAT, Dr. Chung and her team took great care of our dog Benji. They communicated with us on every level letting us know what was going on with treatment, surgery and follow up.It has been a year since Benjis emergency surgery and he is back 110% we love Benji, and are grateful to still have him in our life!!Thanks for the great care!Mark & Mona
I found the staff here to be so compassionate. I took my French bulldog here on a Saturday after a referral from his vet. It turned out he had internal cancer that had quickly spread to most of his internal organs and a mass that exploded in his stomach. The vet was so understanding and upset for us and explained all of our options. She was gave us her opinion which I very much appreciated. Unfortunately he had to be euthanized that day. She called on Monday and checked up on us and called our regular vet to give her the news as well. They made my furbaby comfortable in his last moments and when I asked for a nose and paw print, they did everything they could to get it. I will be forever grateful that we were with him in his last moments and they did not rush us to say goodbye.
The staff just stuck us in a room and couldnt fallow up or check on us for almost an hour. The vet her self rather than treat our dog thought it better to pawn it off on the nurse and told us to just go to our regular vet. All in all we waited 3 hours for the astonishing advise of put a cone on ur dog and call your regular vet.
Dr. Vorathavorn is so caring and sweet. My experience the AVIM is top of the line! From the time I first went in to meet the Doctor, all the front desk staff was professional and kind. The back office assistants to the Doctor are so caring and detailed and concerned for your pet and you. I had to bring my pup in after hours too and the Doctor and Stephanie were lovely. I had the very best care and great experience.Thank you for all you do to keep our pets healthy!
I gave up !Smart decision I found a PHD Vet inside the University ( teacher) 100 times more efficient, conscious and knowledgeable. Also less busy and lovely human being.Good news! I did not pay more for excellence. My dog deserves it !Professors!Ps It is same rule for us ( human) It is safer a doctors with PHD( Professors ) in remarkable University Hospital.Ps1 The records are under my husband name.
Mr. Rocky has been coming here forever; which is a good thing. I only wish people could be cared for as well as the doctors and staff demonstrate here over and over again. Rocky has had numerous life threatening situations, and each time, he is given the best care, and miraculously pulls through due to their veterinary expertise, and state of the art facility, and equipment. Rocky is now going through aging challenges and diseases, and again we feel comfortable with his care, and decisions made for his overall health. You discuss your pets health, understand, and realize your choices. Wow, I wish Medical Doctors would provide the same exceptional care for a patient/pet. They know Rocky. Thank you Dr. Duesberg, Dr. Chung, Nancy, Tina, Angeline and the entire staff for your dedication in exceptional personalized pet healthcare.
Wow. This place is a con.We took our Irish wolfhound here when her face swelled up. They did an ultra sound and didnt find anything but said it could be a foreign object or an infection. They sent blood work out and found no infection. They wanted to monitor her for a few days so we agreed wanting our pup to feel better. They charged us over $8k to monitor her, blood work and meds for 3 days. They called us saying that they recommend surgery to see if there is a foreign object and poke around and that would be another $10k. After discussing with my husband, we really couldnt afford over the $8k to begin with so said to make her comfortable and we would take it day by day. We requested to take her home and let her be with us if these were her final days. Once getting to the hospital, as I am crying on the floor that my dog is probably going to die, the nurse told me that I should use more credit cards to fund the surgery. I couldnt believe it. She continued to tell me that if I really cared, I would take more credit out or ask family for money. WTF! I told her to bring me my dog so we could leave immediately. We got my baby home and comfortable. Elevated her head to reduce swelling (which I dont think they even remotely considered doing as she was on a flat bed the entire 3 days) and continued to hot pack her every 2 hours and put her on a CBD oil to boost her appetite and help with inflammation. That evening, her swelling went down 50%, we could see both her eyes and her entire mood lifted. My husband and I started asking other vets about possible bee sting, wasp sting or spider bite and all of them agreed this was the issue, an allergic reaction to a sting. The fact that this vet didnt even consider or discuss this is redic. We called to let them know we felt this was a wasp sting and they have continued to call us to bring her in for more blood work (+$200) and more meds for (+$1200) and as they didnt have any appointments available it would be considered an emergency visit and charge another $200. This place is a total con. I will never go back to this place and will advise EVERYONE TO STAY AWAY!
PLEASE READ! LENGTHY REVIEW BUT VERY IMPORTANT!This was a bad experience we encountered at the below listed office.“Advanced Veterinary Internal Medicine” 2965 Edinger Ave, Tustin. To begin with, let us make a statement to prevent the above listed officesfrom running to their legal department for advice on how to counter this. The below information and opinions are solely those of the writer/s andreflect the experiences of the office visited on the below listed date.On 02/09/2019 We took our Italian Greyhound there to have her checkedout as she was very lethargic. After checking in and handing over our littlegirl to a Vet’s assistant, we were escorted to the front counter where wechunked down almost $1000 and then began the waiting game.About an hour later, a lady appeared and escorted us to an exam room, sans our little girl. The veterinarian, Dr. Cindy Duesberg, gave a short and vague explanation of the ultrasound results, all the while avoiding eye contact with either of us! That, in itself, caused us to question her honesty! She didn’t seem to want to dwell on the ultra-sound results, which apparently didn’t reflect any problems. Instead, she went into this “sales pitch” promoting further tests ranging from $1500.00 to $3000.00, stating that doing so is “just to be sure and one step at a time.” At this point we began to get a bit skeptical of all this rhetoric; thanked her but opted out and asked that she return our pet to us. Her facial expression and body language reflected her “fail to sell” disappointment as she reluctantly agreed and told us our pet would be returned shortly and walked out of the room. We walked back to the lobby and waited & waited. Getting irritated, I asked another worker to please get our dog. She walked through the double doors of the “exam” room and returned empty handed, stating that the assistant is doing some paperwork and would soon be with us. I demanded she go back and get our doggie now!immediately! She again proceeded through the doors and quickly withour Grey. I felt that our little Girl was violated. I stammered out of the office with pooch in hand while my wife was approached by the Vet assistant who was advising that we should purchase a packet of pills which was another $60.00. My wife told her no thanks, whereupon, the assistant noting how upset my wife was, handed her the pills and stated “take them, no charge.” Side note: The “pills” are not prescription and we looked them up on the internet and the actual cost was $8.The actions of the Vet and associates at this office appear to indicate a very structured procedure they are required to follow to procure the most money possible out of each customer regardless of the known outcome. They know how much we love our pets and that’s their golden opportunity to take advantage of the situation and cash in on it big time. They are indeed an organized group that prey on people’s heartfelt feelings at their most vulnerable times. We realize that many others have spent much more at this office with tragic results and our hearts go out to all of you. There are, in fact, good, kind and reputable Veterinarians out there whoare above the despicable practices of this office in Tustin. Please be careful and choose your Vets wisely. Bigger offices doesn’t necessarily equate to better health care and truthful Veterinarians.Don’t be afraid to ask questions and demand answers for what’s in the best interests for your loved ones. Sometimes it’s better to let our loved ones depart peacefully and unscathed rather than have them endure weeks or months of painful procedures, only to succumb to the inevitable. For those who have lost their loving pets, no worries, their in a better place for sure. God Bless our Pets!
They saved my dogs life multiple times. These people are my heroes.
PLEASE READ: VETERINARY MALPRACTICE. After suffering +1mth in their care, my dog died in terrible pain.I loved my dog like a child and took her here being told they were veterinary “specialists”. I had full ultrasounds and x-rays of her body at another animal hospital prior to coming in. When I first came in, I was referred to the emergency vet (after calling internal medicine for a non-ER appointment). I took her in and was told she needed to redo all the ultrasounds and scans so this hospital would have their own records (even though my prior vet had sent over his records). I agreed. I paid $1,295 + $250= $1,545 ($250 for medication which I was told to discontinue a few days later). The veterinarian (like in all the prior scans) saw nothing awry to explain her discomfort. I was told to bring her back to the internal medicine doctor.I brought her back to the internal medicine doctor, who immediately took her off most of the medications prescribed, because they were not necessary and causing bad side effects. She said it would be necessary for her to do all her own ultrasounds and x-rays AGAIN. I was required to pay $1,456.20 for x-rays and ultrasounds of her entire body (for the third time in two weeks). This doctor identified something near the bottom of her esophagus. She said it was either a tumor or a foreign object, but she strongly believed it was most likely a tumor. She said I should wait two weeks for their mobile cardiologist to be in office so they could confirm her heart was ok, put her under anesthesia and either scope her esophagus or do a CT Scan. After waiting several days with my dog in pain, and being relatively certain her heart was fine since she had very recently had a long dental under general anesthesia, I requested to have something done. I came in and saw a third doctor. She recommended an endoscopy since she said it was most likely a foreign object inside her because it looked very different in the two sets of X-rays and scans this hospital did. (Please note BOTH other doctors who charged me for the second and third set of x-rays and ultrasounds didn’t even look for or notice this. I dont believe they even compared the X-rays.). I signed an estimate for a $11,000 endoscopy + surgery to remove a foreign object. The ultimate price was less as the endoscopy showed no tumor or foreign object but what the doctor said was a hiatel hernia. She was treated for the hiatel hernia. She continued to get worse and I continued to return and pay more and more money to these “specialists”. I had to request pain meds because they didn’t even offer them to make her comfortable. I came in Friday 4/13, paid for a full physical exam, full blood work and medications, and was sent home hopeful that she would now improve. Finally, I brought her back to the ER vet in the middle of the night Monday 4/16 for a pain med injection because she was in terrible pain. They suggested x-rays. After my last experience of paying twice with ER and internal medicine, I said I would bring her back in the morning to internal medicine. That morning she died in my arms at home. I was absolutely never given a correct diagnosis here in the over one month I kept coming back and spending money. (Please note, if they had told me what was wrong and made my dog comfortable, I would have welcomed spending any amount of money for her.) I don’t believe my dog died of a hiatel hernia. I think she was actually very sick, and these scam artists kept convincing me she wasn’t and would be ok. As a result, my dog spent the last month of her life in excruciating pain because these “specialists” couldn’t make an accurate diagnosis or tell me what was really wrong, rather they just kept requesting I spend tens of thousands of dollars on more and more tests. And to top it off they marked her medicines wrong. The red line they put on the stopper where I was to give her medication was in the wrong place. Please DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. I am so sorry and so regretful that I did this to mine in her final months. She did nothing but suffer.
All I can say is that social media is a great place to air your gripes, many of which I have about this place. Be prepared to deal with some very rude and insolent front desk help at AVIM, once in the door, be prepared to have your pet undergo many diagnostics, before you get a usable treatment for his ailment, otherwise the good docs over here, Chung, Duesenberg and the others are top notch.
Dr. Duesberg has treated my cat Sweetie for 12 years. At age 2 Sweetie was diagnosed with an acute liver disease and has since developed kidney, heart, digestive, and bowel diseases. In addition, she had cancerous tumor removed 5 years ago.Dr. Duesbergs thorough and quick diagnosis in every occasion has lead to a good and comfortable life for Sweetie. Dr. Duesberg is compassionate, understanding and extremely good at what she does.I have had excellent service and attention through this clinic and would highly recommend it.
After a incorrect diagnosis at the OC Emergency Hospital, Advanced Veterinary Medicine saved my dogs life.Front Staff: Caring and HelpfulDoctors: Brilliant, Caring and Wonderful!!!!
