Horizontal Motorsports has become my go to shop for my 2013 Subaru WRX. They have preformed exceptional work in a timely manner. They have provided good advice and great service on my mission for more power. They have delivered a fun reliable 650Whp+ car that I daily drive. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for any work from a full built to a oil change.

Dropped my motor off in Nov 2018 to get rebuilt after splitting a cylinder wall (GTX35R 450whp on pump 92 build), paid for all the parts at this time. Waited patiently to get rebuilt being told 2 more weeks repeatedly, waiting for new block at machine shop thats backed up (understandable). Get word that it was back from the machine shop end of February and would be a couple weeks.Mid 2019 (Jul/Aug) the engine builder left to work elsewhere and my motor hadnt even been started. The communication was lackluster at best up to this point, but then it stopped completely. Attempted to visit the shop multiple times during business hours but doors were locked up, nobody answering phones.September comes around and finally I stop by and find someone is there. After a few weeks, finally got to meet Robbie the owner. I told him the issue and he said he would get it done in 2 weeks, told him I had heard that many times and he said not from me. Getting to the end of October, we discussed that it hadnt been started yet, (at this point really starting to lose my patience), but the plan was to have it completed by end of November. First week of November my broken block got pulled apart and needed new pistons as well (already forged, but damaged from incident), paid for that day to continue work. Sometime around this Steve came back and finished up my block assembly.January 3rd came around, still not completed but was told end of next week. 2 more weeks go by, still not completed. On Jan 21, 2020 I went to pick up my motor completed or not, heads partially completed. Took all of my parts to another local reputable shop. They looked at my heads (pic) and showed me the issues, metal embedded in the head. They needed to go to a machine shop post assembly from HMS. And that leads me to today (Jan 30, 2020), finding out my valves are leaking from the machine shop and need to machine and redo all of the head work performed by HMS.List of head issues from machine shop:-Valves were cupped and required grinding-Valve seats were not sealing and needed to be grounded-Warped mating surfaces-Visible spot(s) the pistons had made contact in the pastI would strongly avoid this shop. There are plenty of other reputable shops in the local area to get performance/motor work done. Hope my story helps someone. The picture is post assembly, nearly ready for install per HMS.edit: photo didnt load

The guys over at Horizontal are fantastic. I’ve been working directly with Spencer and he has been nothing but helpful and knowledgeable about my car. I originally went in to help diagnose a few concerns I had with some hesitation issues, and the guys instantly knew what I was talking about and had a solution for me. They never tried to upsell me on things I didn’t need or want. They even came back after I had dropped off the car and told me that one of the items I asked for wasn’t necessary for my goals, which saved me a few hundred dollars and cost them profits. You never see that. I eventually decided on going to stage 2 with my car, but first they did a compression test and found out that the compression was low. After this, the guys gave me their recommendations and even went to the extent of calling Subaru to find out that my warranty is still active for a few more months. Now I’m working through getting the whole situation sorted out. Through my whole experience with Horizontal I feel like the guys have been bending over backwards to help me out and have treated me with respect. The guys at Horizontal will treat your car like it’s theirs and treat you like a friend. I would highly recommend them for all your Subaru needs. I will be bringing my car to them for as long as I own a Subaru.

I felt I got in at a good time because the block was finished and installed within two weeks. Great. No complaints there BUT getting ahold of them was difficult. Phones were down, doors are shut and no signs of life around shop. Reason I bring this up is because I reached my 2K mile mark and needed to get off break in tune. Very little contact/effort was made back for my ProTune. After several tries I finally gave up and called PREracing. Im finally off the tune and making power again. Ill be spending my time and money there from now on since HMS seems to want nothing to do with me

These guys... Very impressed with the overall culture of this business. They go above and beyond not for the extra buck, but because its the right thing to do. Chuck, Bryan,Spencer, jaime and their team is knowledgeable and down to earth. This isnt your average performance shop. Just recently had a new clutch put in and despite a little issue they ran into, they were literally HAPPY to stay a little late to ensure my project got completed on MY time. Hard to find a biz that legitimately is all about keeping their word and handling your needs first. Motor rebuild to oil change. Highly recommended! Thanks guys!

I had the oil changed in my 2005 Legacy GT here. Speaking on the phone it sounded like these guys knew their stuff and I felt comfortable bringing my car to have the oil changed and vehicle looked over. I get the car back and everything was clean inside, however on my way home I noticed a horrible burnt oil smell. I figured that was typical as oil changes will usually get oil everywhere and then it burns off. Well later on I notice a little puddle of oil underneath the car and my concern grows as this has not happened to me before. I still offer benefit of the doubt assuming a lot of oil was spilled in the course of the change. About 24 hours later the oil puddle has grown and after looking under the car the oil pan and filter are dripping oil. I get underneath to tighten the pan bolt assuming it was loose and notice the crush washer had not been replaced. HUGE red flag for me. I tighten the pan bolt and it is barely finger tight! Another red flag. Oil continued to leak from the filter after another 2 miles of driving, so I opted to change the oil again myself so I know it had been performed correctly. Not a drop of oil has leaked since.Spencer called me within hours of posting this review and was very apologetic and sincere. He offered to make things right.

Worst group of young guys you will ever hand your money over to. Dont do it. Steve is very stubborn and very ignorant. He thinks he is actually smarter than Robert Young of Forced Performance. When my friend who is a shop owner put Robert Youngs Oil Recommendations Usage Chart in his hands (his company version reflecting only company data-with permission personally from Robert) into Steves hands he flat refused to believe what was written. He basically said he was smarter than Robert who holds a PHD in Physics. Check for yourself- he does. When a man with a PHD walks into the room to speak on a topic I personally do not have training as high as his? Guess what? I listen. Not Steve. He not only refused to listen, he refused to give nearly 25 warranty guidelines out to his customers while doing business with my friend. Steve refused to regard Robert Youngs advice stating oh that will void the warranty? Steve is a real bright individual you know: rewriting software for known licensed street cars that automatically does it all by itself. He deletes catalytic converters on a weekly basis, he tunes these cars to well beyond their factory power outputs. Him and his partner break every known law on the books environmentally that can even be dreamed of. Now if you care about clean air? if you care about law abiding? Find somewhere else to go because when you go here you are truly aiding and abetting law breaking on many levels.

Was told I needed a new motor by some other shops and wanted to get an experts opinion. Steve and the techs at HMS checked it out and found a better solution. Ended up doing a full reseal of the motor, head gaskets, timing belt and a turbo rebuild(which they actually do in-house). Car has been running like new ever since and they gave me a great price! I’m a repeat customer who has spent thousands of dollars at this shop over the past couple years. The most recent time I went in to fix the shift linkage on my wrx and they jacked my aftermarket short shifter and replaced it with an oem one. Luckily I noticed before I left! When I went back inside to have them put it back in, Steve was short with me and said that they don’t install shifters. Kind of odd considering they were repairing my shift linkage, and removed my short shifter and installed an oem one. Anyways I ended up having to go home and do it myself. Really sad that a shop would give the shaft to one of its previously happy customers. Go to PRE they’re significantly more professional. Plus they actually answer their phones.Edit (response to hms):I waited nearly a year because my shifter joint recently broke again, reminding me of the horrible experience I had last time. Luckily for me, I still have receipts to prove my case. I did not come to your shop with a broken short shifter, nor did I ask for it to be replaced. I came in because my shifter joint broke, and the receipt YOU PRINTED ME confirms that. I will be posting a picture of it on this review, you may look at it if youd like. My short shifter was not broken, and still is not broken, nor did the receipt mention anything of that nature. You didn’t charge me for the oem one because you were hoping I’d leave without noticing. You didn’t want to put it back in my car because you’re lazy and unfortunately for me I had already paid, not because it was broken. I did not leave “fine with it” I was dissatisfied because I went home with $350 less in my wallet and still had to waste my time installing it myself. Isn’t that the point of taking your car to the shop? So you don’t have to do those things? To think I used to trust you guys. You’re lying through your teeth to protect your “name”, if you haven’t already slandered it enough in your previous responses to negative reviews. “I am only one person I can’t answer every call” give me a break man that’s the most unprofessional way to run a business. Plus, if you’re so busy all the time how can you possibly make time to respond to all your negative reviews? Please everyone learn from my mistakes, don’t ever consider giving your business to Steve or HMS. If you have an issue with them they’ll lie lie lie and try to pick fights with you on google reviews.

Had a hms stage 2 motor put in, took 6 months too finish granted some parts were on back order but that was never communicated to me I always had to call and check on the status, and that’s when I get hit with oh yeah the block is back ordered. Then call when the next timeline comes up and then oh yeah the pistons are on back order. 6 months ahead now I’m picking up the car they tell me my rack and pinion is leaking, great but I didn’t get a call asking hey would you like to fix that since we have the motor out. Now fast forward one month after having the car tried to make an appointment for Thursday the 27th and Patrick says we are booked until Tuesday the 2nd, so I asked what about the 5th, day after 4th of July, he says there will be a few staff here let me see what I can do and call you back. 1 day later I call because why would I get a call back and Steve picks up, I say I was talking with Patrick about getting an appointment for next Friday haven’t heard anything back is it possible? And Steve says yeah Friday at 10 a.m, perfect I’ll be there 5th rolls around no one showed up I did stuff around Wilsonville for a couple hours and checked again no one showed up and I live about 70 miles away one way that’s not an easy oh well I’ll try again, it’s at least 3 hours out of my day just to drive there and back with traffic. I Came back now Saturday 6th 10 a.m, Steve says I set your appointment up at 10 a.m 28th Friday you missed it, okay I was told the 5th, he says they are closed the 5th and guess what they’re full the 6th. I hope there work is better than the communication I am very upset will never go back too them!!

As a mechanic myself, my friend took his car to Horizontal to get a simple water pump, timing belt, clutch and were suppose check the cam seals. When we picked up the car, there were multiple people just hanging out in the office and the office guy was more focused on talking to his friends than helping a customer. He had it for a week or two and problems started, oil was leaking from mid engine area down all over the pan, and the power steering pump started to go out.. I tore the car apart and the cam seals were leaking into the timing bet ruining it, due to improper seating of the gaskets and seals. Then the power steering pump and hose started leaking due to a crack and stripped bolt in the aluminum housing, the clutch was the only thing that actually worked correctly, these guys are unprofessional and dont care unless your spending a ton on your car or they get to do something cool

Told me motor was seized even tho it was able to start, was just lacking oil pressure, I took it home replaced the pick up tube and it runs great. The shop never gets anything done on time or right cuz it’s runs by a very unorganized group of “suzi guys” and they just work on there own cars and friends cars before customers. I’ve had problems before with this shop and I decided to give them a second chance but obviously people and bad habits never change. Also I think it’s funny that there employees be giving 5 star reviews below acting like they customers. Anyone who goes to HMS you probably wanna get that diagnosis double checked so there not telling you that you need a new motor when it might be simple as a 30 dollar pick up tube Or somtin. Anyway I’d dodge this place if possible and hit up a realShop. I’m not saying they can’t get A job done, they just don’t know how to run a shop(This is a reply to you HMS)First off y’all never told me it was my pick up tube, y’all never even mentioned any suggestions besides replacing the motor, yiu guys told me motor is seized and that. A customer had stage 2 motor that you guys could drop in from his car to mine because he wanted to go bigger and when I asked if there any guarantees or warranty, you guys said no because it’s between me and the customer but what you guys didn’t share is that he is not a customer, he is a HMS tech gettin rid of his motor. Stop trying to sound all professional just because I proved you wrong and now your but hurt and don’t want HMS to look bad. I did not come speeding in, I have a little bit more respect then that and I also didn’t rip out of your guys lot either, I made sure I was on the road safely before putting my foot down. I have the whole thing on video from when I left newberg all the way to the point when I reached Home Depot on my way back home which I would gladly post to prove you wrong. You did no internet research, my car sat in your lot for 2 weeks after countless phone calls of trying to get a hold you guys it you guys never answer and when you did your excuse was, sorry man other projects are going on well get to it the next day which was just an excuse to get me to hang up., after multiple phone calls you guys finally decided to “check it out”, it’s funny I confronted HMS about not answering the phone and Steve goes,” we get a 150 phone calls a days, I don’t have time to answer all of them, yeah that sounds real proffesional saying you don’t have time for your customers, the one making your business go round, but I forgot y’all are sponsored by some rich kids dad so that’s probably why you don’t care. You did not go out of you way or anything, if you did it wouldnt take you guys 2 weeks after the day I was scheduled to have my car checked out to find out that it doesn’t start. It was funny HMS FINALLY ANSWERD, I got what’s going on with the car and he’s like, it won’t start, the battery is dead, WOW I didn’t know that 😂. That’s why I brought it there to see why it won’t start. Also real professional to try to blast me on the business page, it’s not about the car running for 3months or 3 years, if the motor is good and it runs, why would I get another one? Yeah obviously when it takes a dump I’ll throw another one in but until then I’m happy with the 30 dollars I spent with some auto zone tools and some beer and the way it runs and hasn’t shown and signs of it breaking down with me pushing its limits every time I drive it. So thank you for replying, I’ll keep in mind to never visit you guys again. Have a good day 👍🏽((Reply#2 to reply below))LIES LIES, never did I message you over Facebook, I never sent you a video either. I told you I tried to jumpstart it in my garage And I also made sure the car was aired up more then needed so you guys don’t have trouble, and you don’t need a battery to roll the car into the shop, it has wheels and had 3 inch wheel gap so you can roll it push it, these cars aren’t that heavy. I even parked it backwards so it would be easy for y’all to roll it to the shop. Excuse after excuse...

The whole crew is very generous & labor cost is surprisingly cheaper then most other shops. (Thumbs UP!) I had Exhaust work+Tune done recently @ HMS & my car has came out feeling/sounding so impressive, thanks for bringing her back to life guys! Only go to HMS! Other shops are a plain waste of time if you are a WRX owner.

Was referred by a good friend of mine to take my 2011 STI in for a tune, and found out that the previous owner did allot but didnt finish the biuld. Steve, Chuck, Spencer and mechanics managed to make my dreams come true with providing exelent customer service, knowing how to fix the issues and of course an exelent tune by Steve! I am very thankful to have met the staff as they provided a superb finished product! Thank you guys sooo much, my hat is hung at HMS!

I have decided its time I tell my side of the story.1. I built several free turbos for Steve and Robbie. (Steves wife personally-which rave feedback was given at the time. Funny how the tide changes when its free to when its paid for?)2. I put warranty guide lines into their hands to give to each customer.3. I drove 2 hours round trip nearly 30 times for free delivery.4. I was asked repeatedly asked to get into my possession all the custom turbo models i built for their customer base.5. I found out that they did not give one single set of warranty instructions out to so much as even one customer.6. I finally realized Steve knew absolutely nothing about G4 Emissions Classification of motor oil. (if you dont know and you run above 20 psi on a journal bearing turbo: your going to wish you did)7. I also realized that he wasnt open minded to learning from an older more experienced individual either. (Robert Young of Forced Performance or myself.)8. I had two of their turbos in my possession that were nor paid for yet when business transactions went south between us. They decided to flat out not pay for one of them because it was Robbies turbo. They did pay for the customer turbo. Not a whole lot of choice there. At least they were prudent on that front.9. They told me to just keep that one as a gift due to financial constraints on their end.10. Then as young undisciplined men tend to do they went on a smear campaign and made up some real nice lies. Everything from Im a scammer to a thief. Well in my generation when you solicit a companys services and then refuse to pay utilizing every social networking system that exists to spread complete lies? Well its called slander, defamation, and probably a few other choice things.11. Robbie repeatedly asked me to get an entire product line of my turbos put together for him and Steve. Once this was completed? Guess what? I show up with the product and submit the bill: you know what happened? They never made it clear to me they expected me to do it without them buying them? Wow, here we had sold them 20-25 turbos getting paid upon delivery and then this! They secretly planned this figuring I would just hand them $10,000.00 of my product in good faith. So now I sit here with this money tied up and no money. Shame on me for trusting young men. Fool me once? Well shame on you? Fool me twice? Shame on me. Well that worked out well. Business was just moving right along and it never occurred to me they intended to pull this kind of thing on me. I asked them: did you even remotely hint at this as your real intention?Did you see a US Bank or Chase Bank symbol written somewhere on my forehead? NO: I am not a lending institution, I am not a bank, and you never filled out a credit application either for that matter! So the answer is no, I am not leaving $10,000.00 of my product in your storefront for free! Who exactly do you think you are? A special interest group? A minority? A charity?12. Last remark: These local tuner shops do not have the money necessary to do a company buy in and then turn to one of two of the only custom turbo builders on the west coast and treat him like a second class citizen and a lapdog for whom is twice their age? Well I guess Mom and Dad should have been a little better at training these boys during their formative years, teaching what respect and honesty entail when your in a tough situation? Maybe they would not be so out of touch with reality and not nearly as self entitled as these two.13. I have decided to tell my side of the story years later after discovering how their little network of people has slandered my company for years and I have only come to see this as of recent.14. Im a grown up who takes his lickings as they come without running around the globe telling lies to everyone who will listen publicly and privately unlike the younger generation. Its a pretty sad state of affair how the youth of today operate...we are in serious trouble if this is the best we have to offer in the character department.

I have previously had Steve from Horizontal Motorsports (HMS) tune my 15 STI with a FP Green on it. As someone thats previously had 2 shortblocks blow within 16k miles on this car, Im highly impressed with the power and reliability of my car after 15k miles on pump and E85 tunes. Recently went through Chuck to purchase a FMIC setup, he beat any price I could find for the kit I wanted. Also purchased the HMS rotated kit and will have them install and tune my car next weekend. Will try to keep posted, so far Im a highly pleased customer.

So first off.....as for the other negative reviews, they have always asked me what kind of tune I prefer. Whether aggresive or conservative . Saying they have no problem adding boost but dont adjust the maps properly is false. Very false. In fact Steve is known for giving the best quality tunes drivability wise. Ive been bring my subie to these guys for nearly 6 years now. They have moved locations twice now to accomodate the increase in buisness. Unfortunately when my motor blew, it was right as they were moving locations . I had already assumed it would take awhile yo get my car back. And when situations arose where I had no options for getting to and from work. I called Spencer at hms. Explained my situation . Coordinating with Steve AND Jaime . There techs stayed late each night that week to finish my car. These guys do the impossible. They may do things a little unorthodox, but Ive never once been dissapointed in the quality of work done. All the bad reviews on Google have more back story to them them what they are stating. No one is perfect. But Horizontal motorsports is as close to perfect as it gets. Thank you Steve, Chuck, Bryan, Spencer, and Jaime! I feel like the customers are the lucky ones for having a local shop like this at our dispense
