We all read stories and watch videos about finding your purpose, your calling, your journey etc trying to find a life we actually want to live. Its an unfortunate fact that not many are able to reach that point where they dont need a holiday because they just love what they do. If you want to see the lucky people who found their purpose, which is to bring change in other peoples lives through martial arts then you need to come see this place and meet with the instructors.

Great place to learn martial arts especially if you’re a beginner . They don’t treat you less than because you are new, rather they encourage to not be afraid to jump right in with the group and learn as much as you can while being taught with great attention to detail . Just come ready to learn and most importantly put in the work . You only get out what you put into it .

Amazing place with amazing people!!! Came here from Houston looking to do something healthy after quarantine and these guys definitely made the wait worth while. Boxing Class was informative and also a great working. IT WAS REAL BOXING!!!! Not that bull they teach at Title Boxing or 9 Round where you just hit a bag for an hour and the instructors look for cardio bunnies to date (big deal to me since I’m a woman). Coach Joe and the other instructors have an amazing amount of experience both in professional and amateur levels. There’s also a really popular Kickboxing Class that I’m gonna try in a few weeks. Great place! Also, they have a cute dog that is basically the team mascot and make the place very welcoming as if it wasn’t already. Family run, fun, and fitness!

Ive been at TX 3rd Coast MMAthe past three months. The professors and coaches here are excellent at what they do. I started with the Womens only group which made me feel very comfortable getting familiar with the general class flow and other women in the classes. When I decided to join the coed BJJ classes I was a little hesitant because of my perception of others in MMA through the UFC was a bunch of tough and mean guys. However Prof. Joe, Jason, Eric, Don, and Sarah as well as visiting professors always make a point to ensure I have a safe training partner for my size and skill level. When there isnt an appropriate partner, they will train with me instead. I look forward to my children starting when theyre old enough. I cant recommend enough for any female considering training BJJ. If you arent, you should and these people will make you feel at home.

My home away from home! Been here for a month now and I’m loving every minute of it! I started training Kickboxing just after quarantine to get off the “Quarantine 15” and these guys made it easy. They not only teach good but genuinely love what they do which is not something I’ve experienced in my fitness pursuit. I felt like other places were being fake with enthusiasm or they were lacking in experience until I came here. These guys have the pedigree and mindset to fit anyone wanting to better themselves. Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, and the Bruce Lee Art (Jeet Kune Do I think is the name) are just some of the things you’ll encounter in the classes. Everyone is extremely helpful from the staff to the students and they just want to have fun with intense workouts. Great place for anyone and all ages.

Most experienced place I’ve found in Houston with a background that proves it. Joe has had over 40 years in multiple martial arts and his son is still actively competing pro in many of them! They can teach even just as good as they actually are!!!! Very few people can say that in the world when it comes to martial arts or combat sports. I’ve been with these guys for only 2 years, but I’ve heard of them for decades throughout Texas having been a lifelong martial arts enthusiast starting in Arlington. Their reputation for being standup people goes hand in hand with their skills and you couldn’t choose better instructors for your kids, family, or yourself. Great place! Amazing classes! Genuinely good and honest people! Everyone I met here have been very nice to since I arrived and extremely helpful. Every class I’ve tried from Boxing, Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do, Karate, Judo, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was a great workout and extremely fun for not just me but everyone in the room. I was surprised since the other places I visited for trial classes were taught by guys with mean looks on their faces and students who I felt didn’t want me there. I felt no one wanted me to learn anything or like it was a hassle for them to have me in the class. Almost gave up trying until I talked to Prof. Joe Soliz on the phone and his upbeat personality right away caught me off guard and had me interested. Then tried Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wow! I like working out and consider myself in decent shape after being a power lifter for several years, but I was sore in places I didn’t know could get sore. There’s so much involved in the workout that I didn’t expect and everyone is so willing and wanting to help you learn it’s motivating. Definitely worth the effort to make your way out to try a few classes for yourself. Been here myself for almost a month and I love every minute. My only regret is not starting sooner.

Not only was it a workout to rival any boot camp, CrossFit workout, or personal training session, but Professor Joe, Coach Jason, and Coach Eric all help you learn practical self-defense very quickly. Everyone, including the students when you sit to talk with them are all very knowledgeable and inviting for anyone wanting to learn. What really caught my attention was the amount of women who train here as well as the many mother daughter or family combinations. It’s cool to watch the little girls and younger daughters training on the floor then watch as their mothers and sisters go from their work and business attire to uniforms and boxing gloves. Best instruction and training in the game! I came to this place after first seeing an Invicta FC Women’s MMA event and thought to myself “this is amazing! I have to do this!” So I started looking at places through out the city. I was almost about to give up after a few ill fated ventures into a gym that I got concussed in their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Class on the first night by a big guy who picked me up and slammed me on my head! So I figured maybe BJJ wasn’t for me and tried out another schools Kickboxing & Muay Thai program. They left me walking with giant bruises on my legs as well just throwing me to the wolves to get beat up on my first night! I’m a 125 lbs. woman who is not extremely athletic, but seeing and hearing some of these professional female fighters backgrounds I believed I could do this, but by the end of my first 2 weeks my enthusiasm and want to do any of it was diminishing fast! Until I found the ladies group and head coach Joe Soliz at TX3CMMA! Not only was it welcoming and a huge amount of instruction, the most I’ve ever encountered after visiting many Houston MMA Schools, but the way they train was vastly different. It’s hard to explain without being on the floor to be apart of it, but these guys put everything they have into each student as well as developing an atmosphere that makes you wanna train! They don’t have this weird meathead I’m a badass feeling I got walking into these other places and for those reasons and many more I choose these guys over anyone in the city, state, and country. It is always a bit intimidating to come into an activity as a complete novice and my only knowledge or experience was seeing stuff on TV. The team at TX 3rd Coast MMA, and the other students, have been completely awesome with me! It is wonderfully humbling and interesting to be taught by skilled BJJ practitioners who are on the floor every night. I’m typically not the one for lengthy posts, but I figured I needed to recognize just how special this gym is.After a little morning training with Coach Jason Soliz we sat on the mats and talked for a bit. About various things. Jiu jitsu, gym culture, life, etc. one of the things that I stated that stood out to me about this gym was exactly how family oriented it is. I’ve trained at other places, as I’m sure plenty of you have as well, but the culture and the attitudes at other jiu jitsu gyms, or mma gyms or whatever kind of combat related gym, just isn’t the same as what we have going on here.Everyone has various trials and tribulations they go through in life. Everyone has hardships. But what gets us through said hardships is jiu jitsu and friends/family. If I’m having a rough time in life, the last thing I wanna do is feel like a POS walking in to a gym to train jiu jitsu. I want to feel welcomed. From day 1 that’s exactly how I’ve felt: welcomed. The training partners here are something else. From everyone I’ve trained with, I trust each of you, I’m comfortable with each of you, and everyone is so easy to talk to on and off the mat that it’s just a good feeling. I know whoever Anyone rolls with everyone is going to take care of everyone. It’s not a dominance thing. It’s not a rank thing. Everyone respects the well being of everyone, and to me that’s amazing.I’m getting a little long winded here, but I wanted to thank everyone for being the people that they are, and the training partners that they are. I’m lucky to be apart of a gym with such great people in it. Have a great weekend everyone. Osss!

I have been there and watched the kid classes. Some of the kids can some times be bad. But some of the teachers, would misinterpret the kids. I saw a kid who looked a little bit sad. Although, all the other days he went there, he looked the same and he was perfectly fine. When Coach Jason asked him if he was okay he continuesly said that he was fine. Still, coach Jason thought that he was bored and sad. He asked him if he wanted to be there. He accidentally said no. I know that it was an accident because he was scared. Also I saw another kid, during the warm-ups, he said that his toe hurt. Then near the end of the class, he was able to participate in an activity. Then Coach Jason thought that he was trying to sympathetic and trying to not do the rolls. That is just uncalled for because, his toe could have stopped hurting during class. If the coaches misinterpret people do much, I won’t recommend to go.

The last couple of weeks I’ve been asking myself since I got to TX 3rd Coast MMA why they are so different than other places I’ve been too here in Houston, and California (San Diego). I have trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for a VERY VERY LONG TIME! and dabbled in Boxing a bit recently at the recommendation of Head Coach Joe Soliz. First off, I’ve never been someone who’s liked punches and kicks nor having them done to me, but somehow the coaches persuaded me to start getting my feet wet and I honestly enjoy it! So what’s the difference between them and other BJJ Styles/Gyms or Teams?Well, here you actually train under the direct supervision of the instructor and not an affiliate, assistant, or someone deemed certified to teach their style/styles. With this team/academy your instructor actively is involved in your day to day training. Not just watching, but trains with you more often than I’ve ever seen head coaches do or heard of at the majority big name schools. They try the most I’ve ever had an instructor do to make sure you retain the info given and personally see to it that you progress in the art and styles they specialize in. They teach an effective Jiu-Jitsu and MMA, not just what’s popular in the sport setting, in a very streamline approach that’s easy for all to understand and perform as well as catering to individual needs to adapt for styles. Add to that the direct supervision and input from your coaches daily and it’s a winning combination. They aren’t a chain, so there’s no focus taken away from the students to just run a business as I’ve seen elsewhere in the city. They are locals, they’re students are all homegrown and reflect the instructors teachings both inside and outside the academy setting. These guys live, eat, and sleep what they do and that is no over exaggeration! They study boxing, kickboxing, MMA, wrestling, judo, Jeet Kune do, karate, you name it and they are always studying it! That, and they study you! How you think and what best ways they can better teach and progress you. I can call any of my coaches any time, day or night, with a question or needing help and they are there! They are coaches in every sense of the word and I’m truly grateful to have found this place.

This is by far the best, most knowledgeable, and most inviting school I and my family have been too in the Houston area! I tried several of the martial arts schools on the area from Cypress, Sugar Land, Stafford, The Heights, Midtown, Katy, and Fulshear. No one compares in the amount of experience, knowledge, and just all around welcoming atmosphere of every at Third Coast MMA! They provide an actual curriculum that you can see in every class, adult through kids. They actually teach and are concerned in the well being and development of each person as well as being super proud of all their students which is evident from the moment you walk in and see the walls lined with photos of the students. They are good at all of the curriculums they teach from their Kickboxing Class, Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kids MMA, and Kids Brazilian Joy-Jitsu compared to anyone else I’ve tried (which has been a lot!). The coaches (Coach Jason, Coach Eric, Coach Lance, Coach Joe) are presents every class and actually interact and train with every student on the floor which is not something I’ve experienced at the other schools! Your lucky if those other instructors even are off their phones long enough or give attention from their little clicks to you. Not here! A martial artist for most of my life, Ive been training at TX 3rd Coast MMA for about a year now. Professors Joe and Jason Soliz are an excellent balance of quality of physical ability and character. The atmosphere is friendly, welcoming and encourages students to achieve their goals. One thing I want to state specifically. Professors Joe and Jason do an excellent job of what I call progressive acceleration of the application of technique. What I mean is, when you learn specific techniques, very often the jump between positional training and actual rolling/sparring can be quite large. This is where students can become discouraged and quit. Not so at 3rd Coast. They have a legitimate white-belt class designed to teach the fundamentals and their application in positional sparring. As the students abilities grow, they are gradually moved forward and the roll is accelerated to the degree that it challenges without overwhelming. I found this to be key in my development in jujitsu and JKD, which are new to me as well as a great way for me to kick off the rust in my my stand up game.I would encourage anyone to train here or enroll their children. Great school. Great staff. Great experience.

Walked into this place and people are laughing, they’re joking, everyone knows everyone, and they all wanna help you. Also helps that this is the only place I’ve been to out of 5 others that had the biggest female student training group and families on the floor that I’ve encountered anywhere in the Houston area. Highly suggest trying these guys out and I’ll be here myself continuing training. They make it fun, safe, and just all around good experience!

Awesome experience!!! One of the most friendly atmospheres I’ve experienced in Houston with some of the most qualified staff in the state of Texas. They have an amazing kids program that actually teaches Mixed Martial Arts in a safe way without the machismo meathead mentality you get from seeing the sport on TV. Adult programs are great especially with the amount of experience provided on the floor in every class! Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Fitness, Personal Training, Karate, these guys have it all under one roof! Definitely worth the time to come check them out and talk to the head instructor Joe Soliz, who will put you on the right path to pursuing your goals whatever they may be. Not to mention they are a family gym run by a father, wife, and son who are very involved with their students to the point of even helping them like family outside of the gym. Really a unique and one of a kind experience here.

This place is awesome. It is local for me here in Sugarland, TX and they have a variety of training courses from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (my favorite) as well as Boxing, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, etc. The trainers are very knowledgeable and I like that it is family owned and not a chain gym.

I had just started to take an interest in MMA, and it was hard to find a gym that I liked. When I went to Texas 3rd Coast MMA, I instantly took a liking towards the gym and the people. Texas 3rd Coast MMA was the perfect gym to help me build a foundation in MMA. The instructors were amazing. Every time I did something wrong, they would teach me the correct and technical way to do it. They have excellent classes and great workouts. The gym is well equipped with the right instructors and equipment. The environment at Texas 3rd Coast MMA is great; everybody is nice and friendly to each other. Texas 3rd Coast MMA is a perfect place to train MMA, boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kick-boxing, and other martial arts.

I moved to Houston pretty recently from another State and I went around trying a list of gyms. The reason I ended up at TX 3rd Coast MMA is because they care. Many of the other gyms just wanted my money and didnt care about us personally. This gym has a list of different styles of martial arts you can try and it is not an intimidating atmosphere. The gym is family owned by Joe, Jason and Pat Soliz. They are super helpful with any needs or questions you may have. The gym is always clean and everyone is respectful towards the equipment and each other.Being a small female, it can be hard finding a gym where the men and instructors wont neglect you. So that is why Im so happy to have found this gym. The instructors and fellow classmates are very respectful training partners. The owners personally teach some of the classes along with a few other instructors and its amazing, they are all incredibly knowledgeable.I also want to mention the youth program at TX 3rd Coast Mma. I have seen many gyms where the youth program is just bad. This gym probably has one of the best youth programs I have ever seen. The children learn discipline and respect and most importantly, they learn how to control their body, which is so amazing at such a young age. This is really important when a child is learning martial arts. Not to mention it is one of the only gyms where the youth program is taught to really grapple and fight (in a safe environment) and not just hit pads all day. I wish I had this place as a kid!

The best jiujitsu and MMA gym I’ve been to so far.I move around a lot and I’ve been to four gyms at different locations on the east coast. Each gym I’ve stayed for at least 2 years. I haven’t been too long in Texas but TX 3rd coast coaches are great at what they do. It is very community friendly and they have a good variety of martial arts. The instructors are also very helpful and fair. I appreciate that they are careful with handling the children during class because safety is always first. They know what is most important in a situation and that also applies to the techniques they teach in mma.I learned so much about transitioning and conceptualizing movements in jiujitsu that was never taught to me in the other gyms. I definitely recommend trying TX 3rd coast mma out whether you are a beginner or have been doing it for a while ^^

TX 3rd Coast MMA is my home away from home! The gym has a friendly environment. The instructors and assistant instructors are phenomenal. The best gym I’ve been to in the Houston area. I signed up my daughter for Jiu Jitsu because she was benig picked on at school. Since she started training she has gone from being shy and quiet to confident and outgoing! The instructors are great with the children and run great programs. As a single parent it is important for me to be able to defend myself and my daughter. I’ve been training Jiu Jitsu for 3 years now. I’ve learned the self defense and competition side of Jiu Jitsu. I’m confident in my training as a competitor but most importantly because I know I’ll be able to protect myself and my daughter. My daughter and I have learned lessons that can be applied not only in training but to our everyday life as well. The instructors are dedicated to help each individual learn wether it be Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Kickboxing, JKD, Self Defense you name it. Stepping into TX 3rd Coast MMA will be a great experience for you and your family. You will not regret it!#mma #jiujitsu #selfdefense #kidsjiujitsu #boxing #kickboxing #jkd

The building for its own is insane, the structure with the windows is giving you an incredible view on the near river. I’m trying to attend every class I can and because of the good schedule it is possible to be there everyday. Joe and Jason invest their time and truly care about these kids, setting them up to succeed on the mat...and off. They love what they do and you can tell by how they coach and how the kids respond. This is where you can find Brazilian jiu jitsu, Jeet Kun Do, Boxing, Kick boxing, weapons instruction and more all in one spot without sacrificing the quality of instruction of each individual art. Some martial arts dojos/gyms become hyper focused on local competitions and neglect the practical application of the arts, but this place does a great job of balancing it all without the ego that some gyms have. Im glad I found this place and encouraged a few of my colleagues to join me in trying out this MMA gym. We are all non-locals only in SugarLand for a 5 week training course and wanted to find a gym to workout after office hours. TX 3rd Coast MMA offered us something very different to the norm, and offered us the first week to test it out for free. I knew from day one I was going to join for the remainder of my time in Houston. Being beginners at MMA, I thought it would be intimidating initially, however that was far from the case. Joe and Jason work at a good pace and push you to improve with steady progress in fitness and technique. There is a good mix of people in the gym ranging from beginners to very competent individuals and everyone is treated with respect. I recommend any beginners to purchase a pair of sparring gloves if you intend to take the cardio-kickboxing, MMA fitness and boxing class and dont want to borrow someone elses sweaty gloves. All in all, I highly recommend this MMA gym!

This is BY FAR the nicest MMA gym that I have ever stepped into. The venue is amazing, and the people are so nice and generous.I have only been there twice, but the first time I was taught by Jason Soliz. The second time, it was taught by Joe Soliz. Having never really done BJJ, they were completely willing to spend some individual time with me and challenge me at the appropriate level. The guys there participating in the class were a really fun bunch, all of them very encouraging. The instructors are definitely very qualified, but I really think what made me like it so much was how kind and patient they were. The gym itself has windows on almost all sides, so it is very open and lit up. Right behind the gym you can see a small river flowing. There is a section where you can do weights or punch bags, and then of course a section for BJJ.I would sincerely train here every day if I could (unfortunately, I dont live in the area).

There are a variety of arts taught: Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Grappling, Jeet Kune Do (JKD), MMA, Cardio Kickboxing, MMA Fitness, and even some junior courses for the young students.Even with no experience and knowing no one at the gym, I was immediately welcomed into this amazing gym-family. Coach Joe and Jason, two great instructors who are the backbone of this gym, showed me the ropes and taught me the basics with all the arts that are taught, while showing me how to expand on those skills.I highly recommend this gym to anyone interested in learning any of the martial arts. I have known Professor Joe Soliz of Texas 3rd Coast MMA for over 20 yrs. I have seen his success and accomplishments grow through the years in Mixed Martial Arts. Joe is definetly a dedicated Professor and true to the Mixed Martial Arts world. I remember getting to TX3CMMA gym and I was introduced to Joes son Jason, i knew of Jason but that was the first time I had met him. My first impression was his attitude and professionalism towards a new member was great, that was just traits passed down from his father.I signed up for cardio kickboxing and MMA Fitness, both of those class sessions are great for losing weight and getting fit. After 3 mths of the combination of cardio kickboxing and MMA Fitness I had lost15 lbs. now weighing 212 lbs. Since then I have also been taking the BBJ class and has also been a great experience. I am now down to 194 lbs. losing a total of 33lbs and dropped 3 pant sizes.Over all Texas 3rd Coast MMA has been a great place to train with top notched instructors Professor Joe and Jason Soliz.
