Needed a wheel bearing on my camper repaired on my way through town and God sent me to Peake and now Im all set. Wonderful experience great people
Very unprofessional and bad service.
Great service! They were timely, honest and fairly priced. They even rushed a part order for me to not affect my timetable for leaving on vacation. Sadly one of the parts they ordered (NOT their fault, part was defective) and they quickly ordered another and did the labor for me free of charge. I will never get auto repairs done anywhere but Peakes in State College.
Peakes did a great job for our older vehicle and was such a great value. They were very honest and responsive. They worked really quickly. I’m a repeat customer now. The location is also super convenient. You can walk straight up Allen St from there to campus.
Paul was fantastic to work with. The others are right, you get what you pay for. The prices are right in line with the service you receive. If you want to go someplace else and save a few bucks youll likely wait a long time and receive sub-par service. Im very satisfied with my experience and will be returning with any future needs.
My mechanic since I started driving 23 years ago. Not the cheapest shop in tow. But you get what you pay for. They have never tried to sell me a service or repair I did not need and there is no one Id trust more to inspect a used car before I signed a contract. Possibly the best European car specialists in the state and they still take excellent care of my Camry
Paul, Denny and the team at Peakes helped and made a bad situation good! Im in NC and my car was stranded broke down on the back of a shippers trailer. They assessed the problem had it towed to their shop and it was promptly fixed and picked up from them. Thank you again and I would highly recommend Peakes auto repair!
Convenient, located on the North Atherton side of town. I recommend for other college students as well. Transparent with great service - accommodating and timely. Competitive prices (and much cheaper than what a dealership would charge). Im very happy with my experience. Excellent first impression. I will be coming to Peakes again (I hope not any time soon though haha!).
Great repair shop, I would definitely recommend!Paul, the owner and lead mechanic, is the one you’ll talk to on the phone. He’s the most honest and straight forward mechanic you could ask for. One of my car’s issues was with its computer, even though part of the repair went beyond this shops capabilities they still stayed in touch, recommending a car dealer and ensuring the proper repair was accomplished. They charge by the hour and do a great job at keeping you updated on the car’s status. I don’t plan on going to any other repair shop after working with these guys.
EXCELLENT! Cant say enough about this place. Paul helped me out. Had electrical issue with drivers side headlight. Turned out to be the bulb assembly and ground wire. With labor and parts, it only cost a little over $100 to fix. I went to another shop, they quoted me over $250. They did a great job for a fair price at Peakes. Im very pleased! This is my new mechanic in town, for sure!UPDATE: Went for inspection on 2/7/2017. Of course, EVERYTHING was wrong (as it always is when I get an inspection ANYWHERE). I was quoted $1200 somewhere else, but Paul got it done for a little over $850 (front brakes/rotors were shot, the inner axle needed replacing, and there was something else). After he finished, my dash no longer resembled Christmas lights! It was all clear! Car rides like a dream now, and its HIGH mileage. I am VERY pleased!
If there is a minus star to rate this place, I would give the bottom lowest to get rid of this false 4 star rating of this place. I lived in state college for more than 10 years and have never dealt with this non sense before.First, they quoted me 140 dollars, just to figure out what was wrong with the car. I dont know much about the car, and as I was listening to what he was saying, it seemed like I have to get this fixed now, so I authorized him to proceed with repairing my car. When I confirmed, it was around 4:30pm, an hour before they close. Then I talked to my family and people at my work, they all thought I was quoted too much for the job that was being done. So my family told me to go back first thing in the morning the next day and just pay for the labor fee and get the car back.So the next morning, I explained the situation and told the owner that I would like to pay for the labor fee and get the car back. He start going emotionally and started cursing and yelling saying that I authorized him to do it and if I want it back, I would have to pay $500 in cash to get my car back, unfixed. Also quoting that his dad is a lawyer and if I wanted to sue him, hes ready for it. after round of yelling, curing and shouting at me saying that he doesnt even want to talk to me, he goes, you have A or B. A. Either you pay $500 in cash to have your car back unfixed, or B. you pay 1074 dollars to get it fixed. You choose. I was with my friend at the time, discussing what I should do (not in English). Then he goes, now theyre speaking tongueless. It just seemed like I had no option to just let him finalize fixing my car, as he was yelling across my face saying that I have to pay $500 dollars to get my car unfixed. Then, he tells me that I have to pay $1074 dollars in cash when its finished. I told him that before all of this, Ive only agreed to fix it because I thought I was using my credit card. Then he said me and my friend caused it and to get a cash advanced on my credit card to get my car back. Its just.. Im not an aggressive person myself, never had this kind of issue in my life. Ive called the police about this entire situation, not to bargain the price, but to persuade him so that I can use my credit card to pay, as paying in cash was never mentioned upon agreement. The police told me that its all civil issue and there wasnt so much that he can do. Just the fact that Im a costumer and Im the person whos paying this guy... and get all these insulting words and experience.. its just outrageous.Peakes auto.. one day, hope you and your children experiences the same. You should be shamed of yourself.
Where do I even begin? Paul runs a fantastic repair shop and he is also just a really kind and enjoyable person. He helped me try to save my 04 Mini Cooper, but alas, I had already done terminal damage to the engine. He talked me through my options and I never felt like he was taking advantage. Even after I had paid him for his work, he continued to help me by letting me keep my car on his property for almost 2 weeks while I tried to sell it (to get more than salvage price) and even further, served as the middle-man in passing along the paperwork to the person I eventually sold my car to. Talk about great service! While he may be pricier than others in the area (not sure), if you are looking for quality, Peakes is the place to go. Denny was also very helpful in the process--this car was my first and I had her for 15 years, so needless to say, this was an emotional process. I am so thankful that I went to Peakes and cant imagine going anywhere else! Thanks again, Paul!
We were traveling through Town for a college tour when the car started to make a horrible noise. Peake’s got us in and promised to look at it by the end of the day. They actually had it ready in just a couple of hours and had us on our way before the tour was even over. We were desperate and would have paid almost any price for a working car...the team at Peake’s charged us less than $100! Great service, great team!
COLLEGE KIDS DO NOT GO HERE!!!! THEY TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU AND DO NOT CARE!!!!! If I could put negative stars I would. I came in with a flat tire and they told me I needed four new tires or I was going to mess up my all wheel drive. Which yes, that is what would happen if I needed a new tire at all (which i didnt and my tread on my tires are fine). I just ran over a nail so I knew it could just be patched. I was not 100% when they told me this information in their little front room so I called my grandfather who builds cars. My grandfather asked to speak to the repair man which is when Paul (the repair man) started sternly arguing with my grandfather on the phone about putting a patch on. After the phone was hung up Paul kept telling me how stupid of a decision I was making and how he knows better than my family. That crossed a line with me and I took my keys and left. Then I went to Firestone on Atherton and they were so nice and patched my tire for $20.
Brought in my 2000 Chevy Blazer LS a few times here and they have always been very upfront and fair with me. They have been able to flush my heater core, replace my catalytic converter that was almost in pieces, and install a new wheel bearing assembly. Everything was very professional and done at a fair price.
They are the best in town! I have tried different places in State College for different reasons, and all of them more or less advise me to pick the most expensive solution. However, people are in Peakes Auto Repair really know what they are doing - real and honest mechanics. You can trust their advise, help and work all the time. This place should be your first choice.
I am not a car guy... First time looking for a mechanic in State College and Peakes seems to be a great go to option. Had some front bumper issues that effected the under carriage and had some damage underneath. They fixed it in a couple hours and didnt charge me an arm and a leg. Will be heading here for any future issues.
Fast work on my 06 Fort Taurus A/C. Dropped off the car at night and it was ready 1pm the next day. Very high price for the repair job. took car back after a year because the a c was not blowing cold air. the owner told me he would not touch my car because i recharged the ac with an over the counter kit. .i will never go back for any repair work there.
I was visiting state college from NYC 5 hours away. I had serious car trouble on the way over and had to have my truck repaired quickly before heading back. Paul got the job done in a day for a fair price and was very helpful and informative. Great experience. He was a life saver.
I went to Peakes after reading few reviews on Yelp and Google. I heard from one of my neighbors after their Honda started having issues that they wish they wouldve gone there sooner. I went to their shop for a new alternator and radiator hose for my 2004 Honda Pilot. The customer service was excellent and the prices were very fair and, they also found a leak in my head gasket and fixed that as well. I came in around 9 and my came back the next morning around 10 to pick up my Pilot. Very fast service and fair prices.
Paul was helpful on the phone and listened to the diagnostics I had already performed on the vehicle. He had an opening and got me in right away. The problem with the vehicle had disappeared by the time they were looking at it, but he spent a bit of time looking for the problem. I appreciate his honesty and the fact that he didnt try to just start changing parts to try and find the problem.
Peakes is absolultey the best auto repair place in town. He is honest, hard-working and takes great care of your vehicle. I was lucky enough to find Peakes when I moved to state college 3 years ago and I wouldnt even consider going anywhere else. They also specialize in classic cars, but can take care of my (newish) Honda and Mazda. I HIGHLY recommend!
Ive taken my cars to Peakes Auto Repair for more than 15 years and, frankly, I have no desire to take my car anywhere else--why should I? Whether my car needs something as simple as a state inspection or something more involved like new brakes, Paul provides the same professional service and meticulous care to my vehicle every single time. The repairs are fixed correctly the first time, every time. When people ask me if I know a good place to get their car repaired, I always give the same answer--Peakes Auto Repair.
Peakes saved my ass (and for less $$$ than expected). I dont know cars. Im new to the area. A couple days before I was meant to drive to Toronto for Christmas, my car suspension gave out. Peakes got the parts ordered, delivered, installed and my holiday was saved. The employees were professional and very personable. Ill use Peakes for all my car repairs and yearly inspections for sure!
Excellent service. Like a dunce, I took my car in to be inspected without a current registration and it was only noticed after I took a taxi home. Instead of making me suck it up and come back to deal with it, he went and got all of the necessary information for me to renew online and gave it to me over the phone! Saved me a great deal of time, money, and frustration.I also had my car in to repair what I thought was a broken window regulator, and was prepared to pay for a new one. Even though thats what I told him I wanted, when he opened it up he discovered that instead of being broken, it was simply that a screw had fallen out and disabled it. Instead of replacing it and charging me for a new one (or just charging me for a new one) he told be about the screw and only charged a pittance for it.Excellent service, great people. Ill be bringing my car back here whenever I need repairs.
The man on the other end of the phone was incredibly terse and rude when I called to schedule an appointment. When asking if I could come in tomorrow, he cut me off, saying no we dont have anything until next Tuesday. I then tried to schedule that appointment, making the mistake of saying tentatively, in case I found one somewhere else sooner (something I figured was courteous so they know I might call and cancel.). This sent him off on a tirade about how he wont accept a maybe over definite business, and he refused to schedule me. Understandable, but good luck getting DEFINITE business with that attitude! DEFINITELY wont get mine.
I would give this no star if I can. The service is not professional. My husband and I had a battery changed for the Mustang 2007 at Peakes and it had leakage problem which they couldnt solve. So we went to Ford service center and replaced the battery again. And this happened in three months. We had the tires all replaced at Peakes like a year ago. However, recently, there was a weird noise when driving fast and when the wheel is rotated to the right. We went to Ford again and found out that the tire was placed backwards. It clearly means that they didnt look carefully when placing tires. I would NOT recommend this place. They just charge you a lot of money. We chose this place based on the reviews but I dont think this is a good auto center.
Trustworthy and great service.
When attempting to seek out a mechanic for my vehicle I called this place to see about getting work done. His exact words were “I’m not interested in doing a job like that” no referral to a shop that would or any other advice.
I can always count on Peake’s to do a great job on my Car. Highly Recommend Paul as the guy to see when you need some repairs to your vehicle
My son who attends Penn State and lives in State College had a minor accident with his car. I live in Mechanicsburg and not able to run up to take care of things. Paul was very helpful over the phone and explained every detail as to what was wrong and exactly what needed to be fixed. I highly recommend using Peakes Auto Repair w/ any issues you may be having w/ your vehicle.
Three very simple reasons to visit Peakes:1.) Paul, the lead mechanic, will remember your name and provides thorough, honest work2.) They back their service up 100% - if your car needs to be towed for service (even from Dubois) for an error created on a operation, they will pay the tow and repair while swiftly correcting the problem3.) Theyre concerned about your time, your car, your life - not the bottom line - they have enough loyal customers to sustain thatI have a 99 Subaru Outback that is terminally ill. Shes had anything and everything replaced. In the past, some auto shops in State College have taken advantage of that because I was a student. Now that Im leaving town for a new job, Im sad to leave a mechanic group that has been so honest, kind, and trustworthy (not to mention the professional, fast work that they offer.
Excellent service. I have 70s British and Japanese sports cars and they know how to sort them out.
Great shop. Took my car in while on vacation at black moshannon. Examined the brakes and said they were in good shape all around and required no action. Few shops will say that whether its the truth or not!
Very straight-forward people, but get the job done well. Theyre also very quick, I left my car there for less than 2 days and it was out working like a charm.
Fantastic service all around! These guys definitely know Vdubs. Paul and his crew gave my 2005 VW Beetle Convertible a thorough once-over and provided me with an accurate and detailed report and estimate of what it needed. They completed the work within his estimated time frame and cost. When my Beetle needed a hose re-repairedr, they did it free of charge--not even a labor fee! My Beetle drives like a whole new car, and I couldnt be happier! From now on, my Beetle will only be going to Peakes!
I had my rotors and brakes changed. The service was excellent but I called up several other places for a second opinion on pricing after the brakes were changed to find out that he charged me about a third more than what others were quoting me. Great service but bad prices. Also, the guy also seems very rude.
If you have any car issue, come to Paul at Peakes. Local German dealer told me I needed $7,000 in repairs, $7,000!!! I had been to Peakes in the past and always had good experiences, so I went to him again to see if maybe he could make the same repairs for a lower price. Paul figured out that the dealership was wrong on both recommendations, and figured out that spending $350, just 5% of what the dealer wanted, would fix my issues. Not only did it fix my issues, but the car now runs better than ever! Peakes is the place to go, especially for higher end European cars!
They got my Mini back on the road quickly!
I was able to bring my car in the next day after calling, they fixed the problem quickly, and charged a reasonable price.
Paid $140 just to have them look at my car to tell me what was wrong with it. Every other auto repair shop Ive been to conducts free diagnostics.. and every individual who Ive talked to who is experienced with cars and repairs agrees I was over priced because I am a girl who has no knowledge on cars.
I first took one of my vehicles to Peakes about 5 months ago. I had just purchased a 2003 VW Jetta that needed some work and I saw that Peakes had good reviews and also that they specialized in foreign vehicles. I called Peakes as well as several other places including the VW dealership, Midas, and Absolute Auto. Peakes was the only place that I got a good response from - the dealers quote was too high and the other places wouldnt even give me an estimate or a call back.I spoke with Paul himself and he gave me a fair estimate for the work I needed done as well as a thorough explanation of what the job would entail. As he worked on my car, he called several times to update me and make sure that I wanted him to continue going through with the job - he didnt try to rip me off like some other places will do.Since then I have taken both my Jetta and my 1999 Jeep Wrangler to Paul several times and Ive never been disappointed. When you call, Paul is always the one who answers. Hes incredibly personable and is willing to help if youre having trouble. Im currently going through some electrical issues with my Jeep that Im trying to fix myself, but Paul has been very helpful when Ive called him or stopped into the shop to update him on my progress and pick his brain for expert advice. I havent paid him for his advice or time, but hes still willing to pause what hes doing to help out. You can tell that he loves what he does and that he genuinely cares about your vehicle.Ive been around State College for about 7 years now and in that time Ive taken my vehicles to a number of shops around town. I can tell you with full confidence that Peakes is by far the best there is in this town. Whether you need repairs, inspection, or routine maintenance, Paul Peakes is your guy.
I took my daughters A4 to Paul with a persistent vibration after a mechanic said he could replace the clutch and failed miserably. I had tried other mechanics and local dealership - they misdiagnosed the problem and could not repair the issue at any cost. Totally positive experience with Paul and Peakes. He took time to research the problem, consult other Audi experts and test things. I will not take this car anywhere else. My daughter is now a believer in Paul and his expert staff.
Went here for an oil change. No complaints.
Inspected and fixed our cars. Great service
Paul charged me $80 for a freaking oil change. I have never paid even close to that in my life. Totally took advantage of me. Who does that to a student?
They know their stuff.
Super friendly, fast, and a great local shop.
Great service but bad price
Good price
Rude people do not go here
