I first went to Lohrs after getting approved for a VERY small loan for my first big girl car. I had a hard time finding something nice in my price range. Thankfully I stumbled upon Lohrs garage! This particular vehicle was out of my price range, but they were willing to work with me. Whats even better than this? This sweet sweet ride lasted for 5 years and I drove it hard and didnt do any maintenance. If not looking for a car on their lot, I have also used their services for Pre-Inspection exams when shopping around at other dealerships. I was looking at a car at a dealership down the street and really wanted to confirm that the car was solid. I called and got an appointment the very next day. They found two things wrong with the car and I took their estimate back to the dealership that I was looking to purchase from and was able to negotiate on repair cost because I was an educated consumer. This is the place to buy a nice, affordable car.
I am very satisfied with Lohrs honest and timely service. My car wouldnt start the other day, and trying to jump start it did not help. I called Lohrs yesterday afternoon, and was told that they were busy and may not be able to fix my car until next week. I got my car towed there anyway. Early this morning, they called me saying my car is ready to go. They checked the electric system and replaced the battery. Super timely service! One thing worth noting is that they do have an extra 4% charge for credit card payment, as mentioned in another review (thank you!), so bring a checkbook if youd like to avoid the surcharge.
I’m disappointed that my husband picked this location. We needed our vehicles retitled and inspected after moving to the area and figured we might as well just get it done in the same place. They rescheduled my husbands inspection TWICE and then failed his vehicle for having a dime sized rust hole in the bumper. Told us it was “structural” and needed to be fixed. $800 later we have a new bumper but we had to get the work done elsewhere since the owner said he would call around to get us price quotes on the part and we never even heard back. We’re waiting on the follow up inspection but I really would like my husband to go elsewhere as well. Let’s flash forward to today when I showed up for my inspection and was told that I wasn’t scheduled, forget I had a card with the date and time on it. I was irate to say the least, since I had to rearrange my schedule and take time off of work for this, and he’s lucky I didn’t scream louder than I did. Suffice to say I told him to take a hike and I will be going elsewhere. Do not go here, incompetent crooks.
They were very friendly like I was family, and were so on hands to tell me everything I needed to know about my nice new wheels.. I love my new Ford Escape Titanium... a lot to learn on this beauty.... Thank you guys!!
Great service. They take the stress out of taking your car to a repair shop.
I had vehicle trouble on a Saturday when most other shops were closed and very few were doing any work on vehicles. Since I was in town only for the day, I needed help and Lohrs stood up and took care of it for me even though it was outside their normal practices. The operation was well run, friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend this garage to anyone that needs work on their vehicle. Its always nice to see a local small business that values people.
I felt they gave good advice about the work that was needed. I was verbally told to bring the vehicle in by 9 a.m. so the work could be completed by mid-afternoon. I called to check on status around 4 p.m. and was told the repair might go over into the next day because it was 9 a.m. before I got there, while they had written down an 8 a.m. appointment time in their records. I planned to pay for the repair via card and only learned at pick-up time that there was a 4 percent surcharge unless paying in cash or by check. Also, they kept my vehicle registration until the bill was paid. If I have any future encounters here, I will ask for a written appointment card and clarify the payment arrangements up front, at the very least.
Family owned. Good people
Great service! I’ve been taking my cars there for over 15 years. The quality of work is outstanding. Flexible scheduling and very detailed invoicing.
Great people doing honest auto repair. I have been in multiple times with two different cars. One repair job was one that had to be researched and well thought out. A few different shops had seen it for the problem but no one could seem to fix it. Lohrs had it for one afternoon and now it is fixed.
Our car got a flat tire on our vacation. Lohrs was the only place in town that was able to get the specific tire we needed and put it on the car within a day. We were so impressed with their professionalism, price and handy work. I would 100% recommend them to anyone. Fabulous service.
They do good work, will take care of towing, and are upfront about how long things take. All around great experience.
I’ve been there several times and they do good work and are honest. Their estimates are usually right on and will reuse parts to reduce cost if possible. They always show me the parts they replaced to show that it was necessary. I’d have no problems recommending them.
I love the family atmosphere and the can do attitude of the Lohr team. We get our state paperwork done there too! Always helpful and patient.
One of the only places in town to get rid of stale gas.
Easy. Friendly. Great place.
Family owned. Trustworthy mechanics. Fair price for good quality work
I have been going there for about a year. For a woman dealing with garages, Ive had many come and go! These guys are great. My car is 11 years old, so they do in fact work on older cars. From tire repair to towing Jim and Jim Jr. Have been A++++++++. Always friendly and explain things to me so I understand. Always in a timely manner. I ve never been to a shop when its taking a long amount of time and these guys let you know why and what is going on . I would recommend them to. Everyone anytime
The service and staff at Lohrs is top notch. They provide the most excellent, quality service with no detail left untouched. I highly recommend Lohrs to everyone. Can’t match the superior service we received. Jimmy goes above and beyond for his customers.
REASONABLE prices and helpful
Ive been a customer for about four years now, wouldnt go anywhere else in State College! I really appreciate their helpful suggestions and attention to detail. Thanks for your work, guys!
Easy transfer friendly and informative service.
We brought our car to Lohrs to get it titled and registered in PA after moving to State College from MA. We had to make multiple trips there because they told us incorrect information about what paperwork was required. After many trips to Lohrs we finally got the car registered. We scheduled an inspection for a week later. Our car failed the safety inspection and they reported that we needed $1700 of work to get the car to pass the inspection (the car is only 5 years old and has 40k miles on it) and we were shocked. Some of the things that they said needed fixing (break pads, rotors, etc.) were obviously not faulty or we would have noticed. We promptly called around to a few other places. We ended up taking to car to Monro Muffler and Breaks down the street. They did an inspection on the car and gave us a quote of $400 to get the car to pass inspection. They also noted that not as many things were wrong with the car as Lohrs claimed. We had the car serviced at Monro and re-inspected. The car is now fully inspected and we paid $1300 less that what Lohrs was attempting to charge. We will be reporting Lohrs to PennDOT for running this type of scam. I suspect that since we are women they think that we do not know enough about cars to know better, and consequently they were free to claim things that werent true and try to charge us $1700 for repairs that were not needed. They were wrong. This sort of dishonesty is incredibly disheartening. I would not recommend Lohrs for any sort of repairs or inspections. I sincerely believe that they are dishonest, and when it comes to inspections will fail people in an attempt to get more money out of them. If you want honest, good quality service I would highly suggest you go elsewhere.
I bought a Honda Accord with 166,000 miles on March 1st. They charged 1000 over blue book value. They charged me one hundred dollars to replace the dead battery as well. I should have known then, but I drove it home. It died March 30th. The third piston went. They refused to do anything about it.
Always count on them for my motorcycle inspections. Great place.
Had a complicated titleing situation for my bus rv conversion and they patiently figured everything out and really went out of their way to help me get everything done the right way. Very pleased.
Garage treated me fairly.
They are always knowledgeable and fair. I highly recommend them. My whole family goes there.
I am a car buff and have several cars from antiques to classics to now and a truck and motorcycle, been going to Lohrs for quite a while and with the knowledge between Jim sr & Jim jr theres has never been something they couldnt handle in a timely manor and finish the job prompt, professional & polite and never had to question what they did or the work order, I have the utmost respect for them and continue to go there and always recommend them to all I know,
The most unprofessional rude people you will ever have the displeasure to meet, wasted 9 days for a useless appointment for an enhanced inspection. Do yourself a favor and drive to Bellefonte or altoona
They will try and tell you something is wrong with your car when there isnt. DO NOT GO HERE!
Kind and easy to work with
Friendly and helpful
