Very helpful and friendly, from the mechanics to the office. They are flexible with times and price. My car was having some issues but I could not afford the work on it till the next week. So they allowed me to park my car there until then with no problems. Comfortable feeling environment for sure.

All in all, I waited several weeks for an appointment, went in with minor engine performance issues, and left with no work done and a $350 ESTIMATE that google could have likely answered. Good customer service and thorough, but I still feel like I totally wasted my money. If you decide to get any work done, just hand your next two paychecks across.

We have used this facility several times since our move to Seattle and have been pleased each time. On this visit, we had some minor pre-trip items for them to address, which they did promptly and at no charge. They advised me on some other issues, and we really trust their judgment. Our family has been a client of Toms since 2005 and we have never been disappointed. My husband does most of the work on our cars and we only bring them to the shop when he is stuck with something he cant do. At Toms, not only do they always offer a menu of solutions to fit different budgets, but they have also provided advice regarding what my husband could do on his own, and we appreciate that very much.

Toms automotive has very experienced, professional and friendly staff. As a female, I dont feel I can trust certain mechanics. The owner is female and I completely trust her advise. They gave me a list of what maintenance items needed to be completed but did not pressure to complete them at that time.

Im convinced a lot of the five star reviews are from people who are really impressed by a clean customer are and a service manager who smiles a lot.Toms is great for accurate diagnosis of issues, and you know they will correctly service your car. But, I really cant give four or five stars because of two things- 1) they arent that quick, mostly because theyre really popular and therefore really busy, so turn around time wasnt what I had hoped both times I brought my car in. 2) They are so incredibly expensive. My jaw dropped both times I got my bills. My family owns auto shops, I often perform my own maintenance, and Ive owned a few Volvos in my day the required specialized service, so its not as though I dont know the ins and outs of what is reasonable pricing. Its just so way too expensive for basic maintenance like brakes and pulling codes here.

Oh man where to start - I am not sure why this garage is rated so well, I suppose most in West Seattle have more money than sense.First, the good - no problem with Toms in terms of alleged quality or service. Very nice people, and the garage is nice/well kept. They do offer a nice warrantee with their repairs, one of the better ones I have seen.Now for the not so good - I get the feeling this shop gets a lot of customers who dont know any better, who dont question anything and end up taking it up the tail pipe. This shop is the MOST expensive BY FAR that I have come across in Seattle, and that is saying a lot because shops in Seattle run about 40% over average. Their estimation model is a little shady, they dont bill by the hour for labor, they just come up with a number. Well, Ill tell you that number works out to be $132/hour based on the water pump/timing service I had quoted (Dealer is $150/hour). Expensive labor is one thing, what irked me more than that was the premium on parts. Thermostat, direct form Toyota is $25-$30. Toms quoted $75. Oil Cooler hose, $25 from dealer, Toms quoted $70. The list goes on, it was a large quote that came out to over $2k for a timing belt/water pump job...yes, $2k! On a 2001 4runner, this should be a $1200 job MAX. They claim they build the cost of their consumables into their prices. Im sorry but thats a 10-15% mark up at most, not 2-300%. You would actually SAVE money going to the dealer, Ive never seen anything like it. Do yourself a favor and get quotes from other shops before going here. Highly recommend Taskar Garage in Ballard.

I just love this place! They go above and beyond and never try to upsell. When I had a flat tire the night before my appointment, they dropped the tire off at Les Schwab (where I had bought it), picked it up, and put it on my car after servicing it. No extra charge. So important to have a place you trust, especially as a single woman. Thanks, Toms!

I have taken my vehicles to Toms Automotive for over 20 years. I appreciate their honesty and integrity along with the quality of their work. They dont upsell or recommend unneeded service. I keep my vehicles for a very long time. Their honest assessment of my trucks and cars has been very helpful for me in making the decision as to repair or replace.

TOMS SAVED ME THOUSANDS! MOST HONEST IN WEST SEATTLE! After getting totally bamboozled by a place in West Seattle that has hundreds of good reviews, I was at a loss of what to do. Finally I took my little Hyundai to Toms. First of all, its literally the cleanest shop Ive ever seen in my life. Like Truman Show movie clean. Then the guys are so sweet and patient. They did what any of the actually 3 mechanics that had looked at my car could have done, a simple cheap dye test to see exactly where the oil leak was going. One place that had worked on my car on Roxbury had told me it was fixed. I left with plans to go on a little road trip and went to get some supplies and saw the car was smoking and leaking oil. Took it back they said oh I see there is another leak, for $1200 well fix it for good this time yeah right, I said no thanks, so Toms knew this and all along any of the places ( The place on Roxbury was the 3rd ) could have done this simple dye test for $30.00 with tax. Toms told me after the dye test what I had a feeling about-the car was not worth putting any more money into. THey could have poo pooed me and let me waste more money but they were honest. Take your car to Toms, you might think that these other little Ma and Pa shops are good because they are full ad busy but why take a chance that youll just get lied to? Toms hasnt been here 40 plus years for no reason!

I have been going to Tom’s for a while now to have my 2006 Scion worked on. They do quality work and at a good price. Very professional and honest, great staff to work with. I am saddened that I am moving down to Arizona at the end of the month and will no longer be able to have my car serviced at Tom’s. I hope I can find a new one like them down there. Great service. Everyone is so professional - I know exactly what they are going to do and how much it costs. It is so helpful that they call and remind me when my car needs service, and then they send me a thank you note after the service. They also offer a shuttle that will take you home.

I have nothing but good things to say about Toms Auto! I had stopped by before and they helped with my windshield wipers, free of charge and without having been a paying customer before. Thats just one example of many--they are incredibly professional, friendly and trustworthy, and theyve 100% earned my business for life. The A/C on my CR-V stopped working. I was able to take my car in the same day I called and they diagnosed the problem within about 10 minutes. Called me later the same day to give me the cost estimate. Very helpful and understanding that the repair was expensive and that I was considering whether or not to have the work done.

I went to Toms yesterday to get my car diagnosed and it was a great experience. First, they were all booked with appointments but they still said to come by and they would try and get me in. Within 10 minutes, they informed me what the issue could be, looked up the warranty on my car and instructed me on how to talk to the dealership to get the issue fixed. I was impressed by the genuine care and empathy I received and I will definitely go back if I have another issue.

My car is older, a 2005 PT Cruiser and from what I was told by a previous mechanic not the easiest to work on. Toms has kept it running very good since I started taking it there, much better than before. The professionalism and customer service are top notch as well. Never had one interaction that I could say was off or bad. And I love the lockbox option for your key if you have to pick up your vehicle after hours. Ive lost my back up key so the lockbox was a lifesaver. Call or email them when you need something done. Youll be happy you did.

My bosses were the ones that recommended me to see Toms when I had my check engine light on some time last year. They were very helpful, and kindly, turned the light off as there wasnt anything particularly wrong with my car. However, recently, my car was being looked at by them (as Ive had other things happen to my car), and the staff helped me walk through the process of either furthering the fix or getting rid of my car. As someone who doesnt know anything about cars (oh boy), they really did a great job of explaining things to me. Thanks!

I got a flat tire across the street from Toms Automotive. Although they dont repair tires, they immediately sent over a technician to change my tire. I tried Toms after years with another shop. The other shops service had deteriorated over time and I could no longer trust them to do the right thing for my car and for me. The Toms Automotive Service team is warm, friendly and most importantly, competent and honest. They first did an assessment of the car. Then, I got a call with each needed improvement estimated and prioritized. Now, that the car is fixed, it drives SO much better. Its a 2006 Honda CRV with lots of pep and strength. I will go to Toms again. Its great to find such high quality car services in West Seattle (my own neighborhood). Thank you!

I most certainly do not wish to speak to you on the phone about anything ever again, but thanks for the public offer that makes you come off as reasonable and thoughtful and makes me look like a crazy customer demanding her cash money. Next time maybe try leading with “we don’t offer refunds for bad parts. We only offer replacement.” Maybe it would have made more sense to say that to me on the phone (which you never once did) instead of in a public google review. It is with pleasure that I share my experience with Tom’s Automotive in West Seattle. In expedited response to the service engine light indicator I drove to their reliable and expert shop. They were kind enough to take the time to read the codes and source the issue to low radiator fluid. I had just had BMW Seattle perform an oil service and complete top off of fluids a few days ago, which they obviously failed to do! Obviously I was unable to schedule the oil service with Tom’s due to my schedule. Tom’s Automotive service to the rescue! They are simply the BEST at what they do!

Hands down the best auto shop Ive ever been to. Toms is always friendly, accommodating and takes time to explain the issue. Recently they went the extra mile on an issue with our car and spent time (that the dealer wouldnt) diagnosing, finding and fixing the issue. All for a fair price and with an incredibly helpful attitude. Dont hesitate for a minute to go to this locally owned small business who consistently knocks it out of the park. I take my car to Toms because they are friendly and reliable. I appreciate they are able to triage and explain the maintenance needed to keep my car up and running. Its great they offer a shuttle in the morning and late afternoon to help the locals get back to work!I once had to pull off the freeway due to my car acting oddly. I have a 2001 Yukon XL which is a 3/4 ton towing vehicle and has been serviced at Toms for 14 years. Simply the best auto-service experience I have ever had.Driving down the street one day, I heard a thud and felt something hit my foot. Lo and behold a bolt had fallen out of the gear-like (technical term) parts in the dash below the steering wheel. The gear-shifter didnt work after that. Reading park on the dash my engine was in reverse or neutral, in drive was neutral, everything was all messed up.I took my car to Toms the next day and was helped immediately by a mechanic named John. He was very helpful and inspected my car right then and there. After showing him the bolt and pointing to my brake pedal, he got out his flashlight and a screwdriver, reached up into the gear-like parts and screwed that puppy back in. Boom, my car worked again.Less than 7 minutes later my car was working again. Since it was such a trivial fix they decided not to even charge me!The people at Toms are sincere, hardworking, and honest. John deserves a raise!Next time my car is having issues I know where I will look.

Took in my Mazda for a 20k mile tune-up and had the most transparent experience with a mechanic Ive ever had. Easy to work with, friendly staff, all that good stuff. I have a car that has relatively uncommon oil (0W-20) and within an hour of me dropping it off for service they called me up and told me theyd have to go and get some and how it would affect the cost of repair. This wasnt a surprise to me, but theyre the first place thats actually given me a heads up. In any case, good and timely service at a reasonable cost. Definitely give them a try if you need service in West Seattle.

I started going to Toms Automotive Service on the recommendation of a friend and I am so glad that I did! I found the staff to be professional, knowledgeable, friendly, courteous and accommodating. I stopped by to make an appointment, but needed to have oil added immediately which was done. I also had another problem which they handled promptly. Now they are helping me set up a schedule for servicing my car that should keep things running smoothly. I feel that my car is in good hands and I am very pleased.

I had an incredible experience with Toms Automotive, my window was not working properly, after getting it replaced at a different auto body shop I decided to go to one I knew I could trust and took it in to Toms. I first described the situation on the phone, brought it in for them to see, and their team spent time researching what could be wrong. This business has us as a customer for life! We brought in our car after the Check Engine light came on. The techs determined we need a new water pump, an estimated $1,100 job. But they went one big step further! They discovered the manufacturer is offering a FREE repair of the job under a special coverage warranty. How many businesses would genuinely pass on a job like this, more concerned with saving a customer money. I have heard great things about Toms Automotive. Had a clunk from the front suspension. I jacked up the car, pulled the wheels, inspected, and found a bad bushing. Took it to Toms and asked them to replace the lower control arm. They later called and said i needed additional suspension work (the opposite control arm also) to the tune of over $1200 (+$100 for a front end inspection which a competent mechanic can do in 10 min and i had already performed). I didnt believe it and asked them to just replace the part i asked for. They refused which bothered me since i thought it was a safety issue. I told them to do no work and i would take car back. To their credit they did not charge me which is why this isnt 1 star review. Took the car to a second shop who confirmed i only needed the part i identified and the front suspension is back to normal for less than $500. So be careful, get a second opinion if something doesnt seem right with these guys.

They do pretty good work, but when we brought our daughters car there for service, the price was outrageous. $900 for an hour of work and $20 in parts. We agreed and paid because she needed her car back asap, but it was a deal where we all knew that they had us bent over a barrel. Its not what we used to expect in West Seattle, but times have changed.

I wanted to bring my car here for an oil change and service after reading so many great reviews but upon dropping off my car (a 2002 CRV) I was quoted $101 for just an oil change!! Are you kidding me?! I recently moved to the Seattle area so at first I thought maybe this is just Seattle but I asked a number of my coworkers how much they usually pay and they said between $30 and $50 which is what I would expect. When I asked why it was so expensive I was met with a smart A response of well thats how much I normally charge for an oil change and its pretty standard sooo I dont know what else it would be.... I also told this shop that my rear brakes were at 4mm and I was wanting to get the replaced since they were almost to three and again I was treated as though I didnt know what I was talking about and told that they probably still had more life left in them even though I explicitly told them I know the condition of my brake pads. I didnt have the work done on my car. Im very frustrated with this place because I had high hopes after reading great reviews but I would recommend looking elsewhere unless you want to be overcharged for an oil change and be spoken to condescendingly.

Im just so frustrated with this place. I was so desperate to have my issue looked at.. I took time off work to come here. I spent the whole time trying to explain what is a really simple and common problem in modern cars which somehow they werent aware of. Mechanic came to look at the car with me but made minimal effort to understand the problem.. when I brought up a separate issue with my car stalling after starting, he barely even acknowledged me and offered no feedback on it. They quoted $80 for something that literally takes less than a minute to check and/or fix. Their reasoning was that it takes some time to get a car onto the lift and back off it. Seriously? My notoriously overpriced dealer would charge less than that. How is the price more than double the cost of an oil change when its way more simple, takes less time, and requires no special tools or products or disposal. Clearly they dont know what theyre doing if they would charge that much for a 30 second job, or are just really that dishonest and greedy. Why would I or anyone take their car for a more serious job if they cant trust them to handle this one? On the positive side, the receptionist made an effort to be friendly.

Terrible experience. Dont ever come here! I came to this shop early in the morning at 9AM for an appointment to see if they could figure out the problem for my windshield wipers not turning off due to a broken switch; I leave my car with them for an entire day and it was already 5oclock pm. Finally when I received their call to come pick it up, I was immediately charged $184 dollars plus taxes for just a simple person to look at my car. Then they had the nerve to try to hustle me into getting repairs over $700 for just new wipers?? On top of all that, they also forget to put my wipers and everything back on my car.

I always take both my company vehicle and personal vehicles directly over to Toms whenever I need issues taken care of...except for that one time I had to change a headlight in my Yukon. After struggling with trying to figure out how to take it out, I watched a YouTube video and followed all the steps. It turns out that you cannot simply take the headlight casing out, but you need to take the grill off first, then take the wheel well liner off (which I successfully completed) and then there is a hidden screw that needs to be removed. You cannot see this screw because it is tucked away behind the frame, and a standard socket wrench head is too large and will not work to remove. Feeling defeated, I called Tracy. He said to come on by and they took the screws out for me and helped replacing the headlight. I told him I wanted to at least pay something for the service but he refused to accept anything. These guys have always been good to me, and I appreciate their hard work and honesty.

Had my first experience with Toms yesterday when I took my ladys car in for service. I dealt with a few people between the appointment scheduling and the pick-up when my car was ready. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and seemed genuine. I also got a very honest impression from them, like they werent trying to push parts & service I didnt need. I called in to get oil change for my 2018 car and the guy who took my call told me about the importance of going back to the dealer for the first oil change so that we wouldn’t have any warranty issue in the future. He told me that he would be happy to work on our car next time. I’m definitely taking our car back there! Hard to find a place like this nowadays :)

Got a coupon in the mail for a $45 oil change and ended up paying $70 total with taxes and fees plus additional oil because it only covers 5 quarts. (UPDATE: Thanks for the response, Toms, but to be clear, if youre advertising an oil change for $45 that actually costs upwards of $60 in fine-print fees not even counting the extra oil charge, youre not really selling a $45 oil change. I dont ever mind paying full-price for something, Im just not a fan of being jerked around by gimmicky marketing ploys.)

I have a trust in Toms Automotive Service that Ive never had with another auto repair shop. I dont feel I will get taken advantage of at Toms. They are always straight up about what maintenance needs to be done now and what can wait. I have more confidence in my car now too, since Ive finally taken their advice and go in for regular service, where they do a full inspection, so there are no surprises.

Tom’s Automotive Service is the BEST! I contacted Tom’s Automotive Service via email for an appointment when my car started leaking oil after an oil change performed at a different place. They called me back within the hour and took a look at my car shortly after. Turned out a screw hadn’t been tightened when the oil change was performed and they fixed it at no cost although I had never been their customer. I’ll get my oil changes at Tom’s from now on. They were professional, friendly, and totally made my day. I’ll be back!

Toms staff are reliable, honest and highly competent. Ive been taking my cars there since the early 1970s. They kept my 1964 Plymouth Valiant running for 17 years. They now keep my Acura TSX running fast and smooth. Im in for life!
