Brought my boy, Jack (13yr old cat:) in today and the staff was very kind, informative and cost conscious. They fixed him up wonderfully! Unfortunately, I was there when a family needed to put down their older pup that was straining to breathe when he came in. ... It was awful to know what was happening, but I listened to the team. They were extremely kind, patient and gave the family time to work through whatever emotions they needed to. (I could hear from another room. This was not in front of everyone.) No one ever wants to endure losing a pet, but inevitably, thats reality. Its heart warming to know when that happens, there is an empathetic team there at VCA to help you through it. You guys were great and wanted you and others to know:) Jack says, Thank You for making me feel better!
Brought my dog in because she couldn’t breath. She went into an oxygen tent for 48 hrs. It didn’t look good. Somehow my dog pulled through. I’m so grateful for the care and attention my dog got. They listened to me and answered all my questions. I highly recommend them. The staff and doctors are the best 🙏🏻🙏🏻😊
Complete rip off. Whats the point of being am emergency vet if you expect people to pay ridiculous prices all up front?? People in an emergency situation cant just drop $1000 for stitches. Its 1am and we begged the vet to treat our dog and assured him wed have the funds to pay by 6am the next morning, even said wed pay extra for them holding our dog for a few hours but the vet refused and offered to charge us $250 to send our dog home with $50 pain meds and we could bring him back at 6am. This vet clearly doesnt care for animals and I will absolutely never return. Huge waste of time and no compassion was shown toward my dog who was in pain.
The staff here is friendly, down-to-earth, upfront, and reasonable. Weve received excellent care here whether routine visit, or dental cleaning, or emergency. Great value for high-quality care.
Horrible experience all the way around, absolutely DO NOT recommend. Please stay away! They will run up your wallet and come back with NO diagnosis!!
Rip off they charged me emergency fewes when I was walk in they had no patients at time and vet was free cost me $75 more for emergency diagnostic vs regular would not recommend them to anyone
I have been taking my dogs to this vet for many years. My latest 2 dogs have been seeing Dr. Burke since I brought them home as puppies. I have easily spent close to ten grand or more on medical tests, procedures and medications over the years. Good quality but super expensive. This brings me to my point. I have 1 dog who has a serious kidney issue. My other dog is in good health. We get a lot of information on our annual check up and ever since covid they have limited who can go inside. When spending over a grand on one visit I would expect that my wife and I could both be present for my dogs check ups. She might here things I did not. They refuse to let us both come in at the same time even though we have two dogs with two appts back to back. They expect one of us to sit in the car and waitwith 1 of the dogs (for a minimum of 30 minutes on a 100 degree plus day, in their parking lot) while the other dog goes in to a private room to be examined with the other dog owner! Not only are our dogs litter mates and more comfortable together they are still using covid as a reason to not let us hear both of our dogs diagnosis and care in one visit in a private room. I explained we are both vaccinated. It did not matter. After all the money and time I have invested in this vet, I am appalled that they are overlooking the common sense and compassion of allowing both of us to come in with both dogs to have their check ups. Using covid as an excuse to keep both owners from hearing their pets diagnosis is rediculous. Animals can not advocate for themselves. We should both have the right to hear the full scope of their health and diagnosis first hand at this time. Using the covid excuse is just that a non issue. Everybody who wants or needs a shot can have one at this point in AZ. Stop using this as a reason to withhold the best service for a pet. We are paying to get the proper care and should be allowed to participate in treatment options. All owners.
When we needed an emergency bet …. VCA was there for us ! Our regular vet was not ! So we switched! Super happy!
We took our young male pitty to emergency care on a Sunday after he wouldnt eat or make a bowel movement for a couple days. They brought him in under the assumption he ate something that he could not pass but waited two days before they referred us out to get xrays at another company. The xrays came back inconclusive but our pup was clearly fading. Initially VCA McCormick confirmed anything our dog needed up to including intestinal surgery, they could handle at their location. This was not true and we were referred out to VCA Mesa for emergency surgery. When we went to the other VCA Mesa, we were treated like a completely new visit. Unaffiliated and all new charges. I found two decisions by VCA McCormick unacceptable. 1) They waited and risked our dogs life while leading us on that they could manage all care for him. 2) They charged us $2500 dollars for triage and xrays when they knew they couldnt manage the surgery. We needed that money to save our dogs life! The lady vet was un-apologetic. I am local to McCormick ranch and its really a shame we have Vets in this community that are more concerned about lining their pockets with $$ then saving peoples pets.
They dont care about animals at all. Useless vet.
UPDATE: I called and talked with the doctor that saw my cat. She had a fever of 103.7 when they saw her. I was not informed of this because it COULD have been due to the fact it was hot. (Or possibly it was because she was sick). They argued with me and tried to tell me it was my fault for not getting blood work or demanding the doctors notes. I was told the lab work was not needed and was never offered the doctors notes. Even though that should be standard practice.Lesson learned: ALWAYS ask for the notes, because apparently some doctors change them to cover themselves. When the only thing this is about is the health of an animal. Be safe and smart - take your animals elsewhere. This place is EXPENSIVE and does not communicate with owners. I will NEVER be returning.I brought my cat here because she was sick - she wasn’t eating or drinking and refused to play or even get out of bed. After a visit I was told she had anxiety and to get a pharamone wall plug in. I already had one but they said I needed another. After $75 later and a quack response I took her home. That night things only got worse. The following day I took her to a different vet. Come to find out she had a temperature and was diagnosed with a viral infection!!I am so upset that they missed her temp and on top of that dismissed me telling them she was ill. She will NEVER be returning to VCA hospitals again!
Words cannot describe our appreciation for the staff at VCA McCormick Ranch Animal Emergency Center. Our (almost) 8-year old German Shepherd suddenly became ill on Friday afternoon. We thought to keep an eye on him over the weekend and take him to the vet for the first available appt on Monday. However, by 9 pm it became clear that he was deteriorating, so we decided to take him to VCA.The techs immediately brought us to an exam room and then whisked him back to the treatment area, recognizing the severity of his condition. Everyone was kind and compassionate as it was clear we were distraught.Dr. Baker was able to diagnose his catastrophic and terminal condition in a remarkably short period of time. He explained the findings, laid out the options (which were few) and we elected to end our poor boys suffering that evening. We were given as much time as we needed with our beloved Ranger and the staff couldnt have been kinder. As a former ER physician myself, I know how difficult these situations are and I cant say enough about the professionalism and kindness of all the staff (especially, Dr. Baker).I highly recommend VCA McCormick Ranch Animal Hospital and Emergency Center.
My husband and I took our 3 year old Cavapoo here last night around 10PM as Roxie had been vomiting all evening. The staff took wonderful care of her and kept us apprised of what was going on. We are extremely pleased and today Roxie seems back to her old self. Thank you McCormick Ranch VCA!
Absoultely appauled and feeling extremely taken advantage of. Coming from a military household, we are used to free vet exams and low cost vaccines. First, VCA charges $80 for an exam fee which I feel is way too high, even compared to local competitors. With COVID going on, I already have anxiety not being able to go in with my fur baby. The women on the phone are very kind, however, I feel like this place has done malpractice during our appointment. The doctor called and informed me of all the things he recommended, and then the front desk was supposed to give me a pricing plan based off of that and what we wanted to do today. When reading off all the charges, I was stunned by the fact annual shots are about $60 a piece!!!! What? Other places charge $15. Little did I know, this place had already given my dog these shots WITHOUT MY APPROVAL!!!!! I said I am not paying $60 dollars per shot when I can wait a month and pay $15 at our military vet. The woman on the phone said they would price match those costs. The only reason this place price matched is BECAUSE THEY HAD ALREADY GIVEN MY DOG THESE SHOTS!!!! Had I known this when the lady was asking what I would like done, I would have paid this place $0!!!!! I was not told about this until after they ran my card!!!! I’m so disgusted that a vet would do something like that without even telling the owner. I will not be returning as my dog is more safe waiting a month then getting shots without my consent. Horrible experience and astronomically high prices compared to others. Save your time.
I had to unfortunately put my dog down after he mauled my boyfriend. It was the toughest decision but in the best interest of everyone around me I knew I had to make the call. I called the first 24 hr vet I saw on google and McCormick Ranch set me up with an appointment the very next day. The professionalism from this staff was off the charts. The vet took her time with me, made sure to get explain what was going to happen and I never felt pressured in my decision. We will definitely be back for checkups in the future with our other dogs thanks to the compassion this staff showed me during a rough time
My medical doctor will refill a prescription during the COVID crisis without requiring a visit, yet my vet insists that the dog be seen. My dog is healthy and doing fine and it is absurd to require that we be exposed to the risk of COVID is this situation. This is certainly in line with their continuous efforts to upsell more services every time we have a visit. We will be taking our business elsewhere and will not recommend this vet to anyone.
I can not express deeply enough the compassion shown to us by Dr. Burke and staff. Our dogs were not patients at this practice, but one of our dogs literally went from 12 year old energetic and playful to 100 years old over night. Our regular vet could not get us in until late afternoon, but a search led us to this VCA practice. We went in at about 10:30am and were literally ushered directly into an exam room. It turns out our sweet Sydney suffered a ruptured tumor and we were left with few options but to part with her. Dr. Burke was so kind and so gentle and so caring. He made a horrific situation the best it could possibly be. This man is a true saint. Thank you Dr. Burke and VCA. We will be seeing you again...next time under better circumstances.
We assume the vets and staff are good but for emergency services, but they completely take advantage of the emotions of the owners. The prices they propose prior to even looking at the animal are beyond insane. Im sure this is not the fault of the local staff but probably driven by district and regional managers. If you have an emergency and have another option, check it out. If not, ask for an exam prior to agreeing to their insane price quotes.
Just amazing, i read the custom service review below and it has nothing to do with the people at this hospital as everyone there is either a vet tech/nurse or a vet doctor, no customer service center/people. One Friday afternoon my newly adopted kitten would not move, could barely walk and was just in very bad condition, they got her into a room right away and started to see what was going on without any wait and each of the staff did what they were trained to do and no just sitting there with your poor loved one in pain or sick. They were super gentle with her and did not move her unless needed to and got her a blanket and make her as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately the prognosis was bad and I ended up loosing my little one that night and I could have not asked for the doctor to be better or either of the girls that checked her out and sat with her. One thing that amazed me is i did just 2 pieces of paperwork. When i had to put my 19 year old dog to sleep(very old) at Horizon, it was like i was choosing from a menu of what I wanted, it was the opposite at this VCA and i just made one choice and when i went back to pick her(ashes) up I was truly amazed of what was inside. Her ashes were in a beautiful wooden box with a gold lock and keys of course, a kind note, and a great paw print. I had no idea i would get all of this. It all came in a nice bag, not some plastic bag, and all the items mentioned in a nice box with packing so it does not all move around. To get all this i literally had to check one box unlike Horizon where they asked many questions and basically gave me a menu of options with prices next to each option. One of the things I learned about this place and will be the reason i will bring all my animals here and recommend to all is that they are a general clinic during the day, and emergency 24 hours so that means no matter what comes of my little critters i will have a place to take them day or night. This to me is a huge plus and now I never have to worry or even think about where to take them.
Ive been taking Sammy to VCA McCormick Ranch for many years no and they never disappoint. Special Thank You to Dr. ONeal for taking such good care of Sammy last week. Hes doing very well now because of you!!! We are grateful.
I would not typically write a negative review, but our experience was so terrifying I had to. This veterinarians operations manager gave us the most horrific talking to on the phone. She was rude and incredibly cruel. She had Zero compassion for our dog. The staff didn’t listen to anything we said before we checked in our dog. Best of luck taking your dog to them.
Horrible service. My dog was attacked and bit in the face on Sunday night. I sped over in my car within 15 minutes and called beforehand. When I arrived, nobody was waiting, and when someone finally did come out, they told me to wait and went to write up prescriptions for another car. Meanwhile my dog is BLEEDING on their doorstep from his mouth/face and nobody showed any concern. When I finally spoke to someone they said it would be a 1 hour wait. I went ahead and let them take my dog. In 30 MINUTES they texted me saying they cleaned the wounds and ready to pick up.My dog now has inflammation/infection in his lips and a fever after seeing another vet. McCormick never gave me antibiotics or anything else or showed any genuine concern.Horrrrrrible services. I will NEVER come back here. I cant get over the image of my dog bleeding outside their door and nobody helping.
Our first visit with our rescued addition! They did an awesome awesome job! Thank you guys we will come back !!Full service groom and nail trim for our little ragdoll cat!
We have been taking our cats to all of the doctors at VCA McCormick Ranch for the past 8 years. We just had to put our 17-year-old cat, Homer, down today. It is the most challenging thing Ive experienced as a pet owner as Ive never had to go through this before. The techs and doctors were so wonderful and professional and compassionate. I thank them for making something so difficult somewhat easier to deal with, and for allowing my son and me some private time to say goodbye. I recommend them to all pet owners.
Nine years ago my ShihTzu Blossom was mauled by. a German Shepard. Her injuries were severe and yet the doctor operated on her and saved her life. Ironically 9 years later it was to this hospital that I brought my 16 year old Blossom to be put down. The doctor and staff were so kind and caring and the wonderful doctor remembered saving my little girl so long ago. That kind of care is rare.
Excellent staff! My kitten was taken very good care of. The prices are presented up front. They offer great online scheduling and text reminders. Very pleased.
Always a great experience. The vets are knowledgeable and friendly, and appointments are generally easy to come by. Highly recommend for situations where you need trusted professionals (always!).Dr. Ashenfelter rocks!
I moved to Scottsdale 20 years ago this July and immediately started going to McCormick Ranch Veterinary Hospital. My dogs and I have received nothing but absolutely the best care from everyone. It really does my heart good to see some of the same employees as when I first started going there. They are really terrific people!
The Vets are needing more practice if they are practicing medicine as one of them told me.
Excellent staff and professional Doctors.Dr. Ashenfelter has been caring for our dogs for overfour years..All the doctors have seen all of our dogsand trust me we KNOW dogs...Dawn and staff makeus feel safe..We are grateful we found VCA McCormickas our trusted place for our babies
Worst customer service ever! If you love your animal do not bring him/her to this office! Adora in the Front desk has the absolute worst tone of voice and is very condescending. They were denying my dog his prescription dry dog food because they haven’t seen him in a year. Big whoop. A perfectly healthy little Yorky that has IBS, so it is a very important that he has his dog food or will have diarrhea. Instead of just asking me to make an appointment and inform me they would approve the dog food in the meantime they had to be condescending and tell me they would not approve it until I asked them to get approval from their medical management and then she proceeded to tell me i need to have an appt on the books(which was fine) and if I do not show they will never be able to let me ever buy any food from them again or provide service blah blah blah. The fact that she couldn’t just be courteous and ask me to make an appointment and she would provide me with food is beyond me. When I told her she was being rude and asked her if she talk to everybody like this she said no, just me. Blows my mind people like this have a job let alone a customer service job. DO NOT GO HERE THEY ARE HORRIBLE AND IF THEY TREAT US LIKE THIS IMAGINE HOW THEY TREAT OUT ANIMALS!!!
Cares more about money than caring about your animals! Run!My dog was diagnosed with Valley Fever in late 2017. I came here after going to another emergency clinic and continued treatment with VCA. After about 6 months of being on fluconazole, my dogs titer level came back negative. In the last year, I have brought him in for multiple blood tests to make sure it is still in remission. During this time, I have seen his lymph nodes swell, his fever come and go, and his cough come and go.Most recently, he has started limping, his cloudy eyes and eye boogers have come back, he still coughs, and is not as active as he was. These are all the original signs he had when he was diagnosed, EXCEPT for the limping. With our history and his treatment at this clinic, I figured it would be no problem putting him back on the meds for a short time to see if his symptoms go away. I was told, his limping could be from arthritis, or it could be something else. If his titer blood test comes back negative, I will not prescribe meds. I will not prescribe meds without doing any sort of testing/radiology. I have never seen a dogs titer level come back negative if the valley fever has spread to the bones in my 20 years of practicing. (It makes me wonder how many cases youve actually seen and how many you have dismissed based on blood work and how many dogs have suffered!) His clinical signs are not enough to prescribe the medication. (Really? Interesting!)Always follow your gut, in my experience, most doctors are really just practicing and dont keep up on research.Did you know, there is no cure for valley fever? Did you also know that 50% come out of remission and the fungus starts spreading again? That means 1 in 2 dogs! Did you know that most dogs dont always show a titer positive when having valley fever?Sure, I was offered a referral to a specialist. But was that really the right answer or doing the right thing? Maybe look at how much money I have already spent there and give a patient a break. Why even go to a general vet if they never actually listen to what you are saying. So closed minded and educated in a box! I have had a better experience with my other dog in going to an integrative vet!Obviously, they lost my business forever. P.S. You might want to clean up the dried blood on the doctors stool in room 3. Sanitary, I think not.
Dr Sundi Ashenfelter is amazing with our senior dog and our newly rescued pup, who was sick when we got him. I was there all the time and the whole staff was great. Now theyre both happy and healthy thanks to VCA. Ill never take them anywhere else.
The staff is so friendly and helpful. Dr. Sundi Ashenfelter is a skilled vet and very personable. She has given me what I believe is the best advice for both my dogs and my cat. I will stay at VCA for all my pet health needs.
Great veterinary clinic! Caring staff clean facility and they were great with our cat. Highly recommended.
Beautiful hospital with lots of charter. Staff is very friendly and organized!
Ive taken my first dog Zoee and now my current dog Ellie . Very nice compassionate nurses and doctors.
This is by far the best vet Ive ever gone to and Ive been to vets all over they valley from New River to Tempe and Mesa. The staff is super sweet and caring, they went above and beyond to make more my little kitty was well taken care of. He needed a bit of emergency surgery for a blocked ui track and they were more than happy to accommodate. They presented us with a break down of the costs and the ability to apply for a credit option if we didnt have the funds right away. (Didnt pass - I have terrible credit from student loans) so they let us know which things on the list we didnt have to get. Once I left my kitty in their good care I received a call that they were able to remove the obstruction without surgery! This was great news! They asked if I would like to continue with the blood and urine tests before they started them and charged me for it, I thought this was a great way to handle the situation in case we didnt have the necessary funds! Since I did I decided it would be good idea anyway to make sure my fur baby is healthy! They ran some fluids through him at no extra cost and even clipped his nails!! They rommended some diet changes to help prevent this from happening in the future. I wish I could give this place ten stars! Dr. Sundi Ashenfelter and the tech that also helped us ( wish I could remember her name!) were truly amazing and I highly recommend her and all other vets at this office!
They were just great. Our kitty cut her foot on some broken glass and they got us in right away with 5 minutes notice. The front desk girl was so sweet and so was the vet tech. No wait at all and they got our kitty taken care of quickly and didnt charge for the exam because it was our first time in. Just a great expierence from the first call to checking out! Will definitley be coming here from now on!!
Great people. Took excellent care of my new adopted dog.
The front desk staff was really nice and friendly. Good atmosphere. Fun collection of pet-related Star Wars stuff for sale (to benefit charity). We brought in our 4-month old puppy for his first visit to the vet. The vet herself was okay. Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience with the techs. The first one tried to upsell us on everything, but thats pretty normal. However, when she tried to help give him his first dose of antibiotics, she approached him with the syringe-looking thing and tried to just shove it in his mouth. He growled at her. (Not to make an excuse, but hed recently gotten a shot.) Maybe she was having a bad day, idk, but she was a bit aggressive and got angry, even though his growl was not threatening (well, I didnt think so, but maybe she did). She took off her stethoscope and tossed it onto the counter. She said that we cant let him do that. She picked him up and tried to push the syringe in his mouth again. When he growled again, she called to another tech and said, I need you to deal with this and walked out of the room. The second tech was much more patient with him. She talked soothingly, wasnt aggressive, and it went just fine. No growling. However, perhaps due to the other techs obvious frustration, she then proceeded to lecture us that we need to take him more places and expose him to more people. She said it wont be cute if he growls when he gets older.Im not under any illusions. I agree he shouldnt growl at anyone (were working on it), but hes a young puppy, and he was scared. Im pretty sure thats a normal response. The way we were talked to was pretty condescending, which was completely unnecessary. They made assumptions and judgments about us without even bothering to ask us any questions. (We take him EVERYWHERE, and he loves the attention from everyone. He also lives with three cats and has had several play dates with other dogs.)I dont care how cute their office decor is or how nice their front staff is. If your job is to deal with animals, you should be patient, especially if the animal is young and most especially if its their first time to the vet, so they arent terrified of the place. And hey, this is just a suggestion, but you probably shouldnt insult your guests. The experience left us with a pretty negative first impression of the place. Not sure well be going back.
Ask for Dawn she was amazing and helped us So much for our puppy who was diagnosed with parvo.
Very thorough. Even my dog was relaxed and comfortable.
They take excellent care of your pets and the staff is very friendly, caring and helpful !
Very welcoming and professional staff. Will be visiting again with my Annabelle and Betsy.
Have been coming here for 19 years and have trusted the health of three generations of our dogs to VCA McCormick Ranch. The staff is always caring and professional. We have also boarded our dogs here when necessary and they have always been treated very well.
Just recently picked up our dog from boarding. After getting our dog home, had open wound on his leg and leg was swollen. We had additional $400.00 in vet bill. Mccormick should have noticed at bath, also made it right. No follow up, no care, no more of my families business. Go somewhere else.
I just moved to AZ with my two miniature Yorkies. My Enzo, became very ill with bright green diarrhea, It was very scary and I had not yet found employment so my funds were tight. They gave me lots of options on treatment, not to mention, a new patient complimentary check up for both of them. The place was very clean, staff was patient with me, (using several credit cards for payment) prices were in sync with I was accustomed to paying. Bernadette, who was the Doctors assistant, even helped me carry both babies back to my hot car and helped me strap them into their car seats. But the kicker was Dr Ashefelder, she called me first thing in the morning on the following day to give me the good news on my Enzo. I was so pleased with all the attention. I will continue to go to them. Thank you staff!!!
They gave Snoop an amazing haircut and were really friendly!
Great animal care for dogs and cats.
