Daves Auto Repair, specifically Jessica, went above and beyond by locating wheel hub covers on EBay for me. Existing ones were brittle and cracked on 2007 Toyota 4Runner. Their service is always prompt and efficient. Communication about automotive issues also very good. Service is honest and friendly. I dropped in to Dave’s without an appointment based on their stellar reviews for an ac repair. Jessica was immediately friendly, professional and attentive. Based on the diagnosis, they definitely could have overcharged me and taken advantage, but Eric went the extra mile and was able to get my ac working and blowing cold again without even having to replace any parts. In a business where honesty and integrity may not always be the priority, I found that to be the priority at Dave’s. Highly recommended.

I went to Daves after seeing their reviews on Google as there are many choices in Sarasota. My 2002 Toyota Tacoma has 275,000 miles and a bad oil leak so I asked for a diagnostic check ($22.50). I was at a stage of do I put money into this vehicle or try and sell to buy another truck. They knew for sure that the valve covers were leaking so they suggested to start their as it is very hard to tell if other areas were leaking with alll of the oil on my engine. In an effort to save me from spending a lot of money, it was a great suggestion. When I checked under my car the next day there was NO OIL WHATSOEVER! What I didnt tell them was I spent $140.00 at the Toyota dealership the day before and they told me the engine needed to pulled and it was going to cost around $4100.00. They also gave me no written document out of what they found and when I talked to a mechanic at the dealership, he admitted that he didnt really know where the leak was coming from. I spent a total of $655.00 at Daves to fix the problem. I received a detailed list of what shape my truck was in. (and all the things that didnt need repair as well!) Jessica was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable . Their (Daves crew) level of professionalism made the Toyota dealership look like a bunch of amateurs. I highly recommend Daves Auto Repair in the midst of a lot of auto repair shops that I could have ended up with. Reviews are important as they really dont lie after you get past 50 or 60 reviews. Most shops were rated 5 Star with only having 3 or 4 reviews. I will go back to Daves for all of my future repairs as they are truly an example of how to run an exceptional business. Hats off to Jessica and Gary (the mechanic) as they really made my day and inevitably saved me a ton of money. Thank you!!!!

I had been having long term intermittent issues with my Dodge Ram 1500. The battery would randomly discharge entirely. The problem was occurring more and more frequently and the Dodge dealer was stymied. After seeing reviews for Daves Auto Repair, I called for an appointment and took my truck to them.Everyone else mansplained to me what was going on, Jessica listened and believed me. Within a few days the problem was diagnosed and the most cost effective repair was done. And for the couple days it took to figure out, Jessica kept the lines of communication open, which I really appreciated. It is now over two months from date of service and the truck is starting reliably again and maintaining its charge.

What I like most about Daves Auto is they take the time to explain why you need a certain car part. This is without a doubt the best auto repair shop I have visited in Sarasota and for that matter probably ever. As an unknown customer I walked in and after hello everything good started to happen. (I was touted [honest/nice] on the place by a local parts supplier so that was in my favor). I had a part in my hand to put in and they said they would do it. People usually wont if they dont know the part and plus they get no mark up. This is a buried under the dash vent part on a Deville Cadillac. They looked in their book which said 5.5 hours. They then said thats too much, we will just charge 125 dollars guaranteed. Wrong part, more pieces needed, time on phone locating and finding right parts [even the dealer couldnt tell them the right part to put in], finally found parts, wrong delivery place, go get parts, 6 or more working hours upside down under dash, next day ready, time for bill. $125 plus parts. I tried to pay at least another hundred and they refused by saying we said guaranteed and we mean it. Now you understand the 5 star review. I mean it too. This is OLD SCHOOL AMERICA with out front values. If anything is not working on your car go to Daves.

Wish I could make it 10 stars!I took in my 1987 Camino to have the AC repaired. Dave was spot on and fixed it to where my AC is ice cold. He was very honest and the charges were extremely reasonable for the work he did. Plus, I have a 90 day warranty which was a pleasant surprise! The next time I took my car in I asked him to check out the wiring to my horn. He had a look and didnt charge me. I am very skeptical of car mechanics as I have had bad experiences in the past. Not so with Dave. He and his staff are wonderful people. I will be a loyal customer from here on out. Highly recommended!

Daves Auto Repair Saved our Car !!My daughters 2001 Nissan Maxima broke down in Brandon and it was towed to the nearest Nissan Dealer for repair. They replaced the alternator and 3-month old sears Diehard battery, (They insisted the 3-month old battery was bad but we did not argue) then told her it was fixed and she picked it up. Yep, it was running alright but now the A/C was not working. So she took it back and they said the A/C compressor was bad, another $1000-plus, please... She told them it was working perfectly before they replaced the alternator, what happened? (They had already advised they had to disconnect the A/C compressor to replace the alternator) The response was the usual, wasnt our fault Yeah right!!After getting ripped off for over $1000 for an alternator job and a broken A/C system bonus I told my daughter enough is enough!I switched cars with her as she lives in Brandon and took her car to Daves for a second opinion as I live in Sarasota. Weve been loyal customers at Daves Auto Repair for over 10-years and knew we could trust their recommendations.Dave personally inspected the A/C system and determined the problem was a blockage created by the filter dryer. He also found that the A/C system was apparently never recharged with Freon after the compressor was disconnected and reinstalled by the dealership. The cost was so much less than the dealership that now my daughter can keep the car a little bit longer and that was our goal.Bottom line...a local, family owned, neighborhood business is always the best and Dave, Karen, Jan and staff at Daves Auto Repair can always be trusted to provide honest, quality service at affordable prices!

The best! My usual trusted mechanics said I needed an $800 AC evaporator. I took it to Daves to have them check it. It needed only a couple valves and a recharge and they saved me over $500! These guys are the best! They run a very tight ship, fast and efficient. They get it done right the first time. They have the best diagnostic tools matched with the knowledge needed to determine what is wrong with there car. Never had a problem with their service. I was in Sarasota for the day (on Friday) to have surgery. We live over an hour drive on the Interstate from Sarasota. On the way in, my truck began shaking badly like the front end was coming apart. We limped into the Surgery Center hoping we could get home later. After I was done at the surgery center, my wife and I used Google Maps local search to find someone to look at the truck. Daves Auto Repair was highly ranked and close by, so we called. It was 4 oclock Friday afternoon and the lady said well take a look and do what we can to get you home.When we arrived, the mechanic took a look and determined it was just a tire with tread separation. They do not sell tires, but gave us their recommendation of a nearby tire dealer they trusted.Our experience with the nice people at Daves Auto Repair was great. I cannot thank them enough for their help and kindness.

My car was having problems with the A / C, so I took my carto Daves workshop after reading the excellent comments, there they told me it was a leak on the side of the passenger and I suggested to fix it after a few days my car had problems again, and as the work is guaranteed for 3 months i took my car again, Now they found out that it was the compressor that was not working well and that it had to be changed together with other parts, the total work would cost $1658.07, they would deduct what I had previously paid that was $224.73. then the total work with the parts would be $1433.34. so Looked for a second option and with the new compressor from the Ford agency $ 684.98 and labor $ 280.00 a total of 964.98 a difference of 693.09 they fixed me that same day. very careful with workshops like this (Daves Auto repair) where I lost $224.73 because if they wouldve done the work they would discount the money. It was a waste of money🤨

Every time theyve worked on my car, theyve done a great job. They always charge what they tell you they will in their estimate, so you know ahead of time exactly what the price is going to be. A good mechanic is so tough to find, count yourself lucky if you live near them.

Got my AC Fixed, and after a month and a half my AC stopped working completely I then had no AC for 3 weeks one because the air kept going in and out and I didnt want to have to go back to get it fixed again, but then I remembered I had a warranty on the services provided, so I called to get in to get an appointment scheduled and asked if I could the issue fixed on labor day I was told that was no issue. When I called in on Friday to check if my appointment still stood due to hurricane Dorian and was told this time that was never an option due to the fact that it was labor day. I then spent another week without AC so that I could get it fixed since my work schedule is the same as this shops business hours. When I finally got a call back about what I thought was the timeframe of my warranty repair, I was quoted $350+ to fix the issue after already paying $349 the first time I was there(but dont worry they told me I wouldnt pay for labor which makes it better.) The blower motor was replaced and now the resistor went bad which tells me one of two things either they broke the part to the point that it would go out a bit later and Id come back to them since it worked the first time OR they have no clue what they are doing and didnt see the resistor was an issue in the first place which it definitely was at the time since it went out a month later. HERES THE KICKER they told me it would only be part cost cause of the inconvenience but I looked up the part and its only $50 which means they were still trying to scam me. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE place to get your car fixed they are the stereotypical bad mechanics. DO NOT GET YOUR CAR FIXED HERE.

Went there 6-18-19 with a brake caliper, since I broke the bleeding nut.I asked if they could remove the broken part, I was told it would be $65.00 I said ok just did it done, since I didnt t have an easy out and a vise to do it myself. I sat in the waiting room I could see Brad the main tech who had several certificate of training in auto repair on the wall.I hear drill being used several time he changed the size several time, after about 40 min, He took a torch to the caliper, I heard a small explosion and flame, another 15 min. of drilling He came back to the waiting room and said I couldnt get it out I saw that the caliper was mangled, He said ull have to replace it, I replied I see that, And left, The good news I was not changed for his wasted hour of labour, but It would cost me more now to replace it

First time customer at Daves but thought Id give the local guy a try. I wish I could give a negative 5 Star rating! I brought my college student daughters car (Honda Fit) in for repair because the A/C was not blowing cold. After what seemed liked a very fast diagnosis, I was told that the evaporator core, expansion valve, AC Temp Sensor/Probe and Receiver Drier needed to be replaced to the tune of $1,787.34. I said that Id think about it since it is an older car, paid $34.67 for the diagnosis and left. Since I have always used the dealer for service, I took the car to Wilde Honda that same day. They checked the car and found a Schrader valve was leaking, replaced valve, recharged the system, checked again and all was ok. Total of $215.64! I have been driving the car for a week now and the air still blows nice and cold (thanks Nita at Wilde). When I stopped in today to discuss this at Daves, I was told oh well sorry and would you like us to check it again? Really? I dont want you anywhere near my car. What if this had been my daughter going instead of me? She probably would have had the work done when it wasnt needed. I will never return to Daves and I will let everyone know about my experience with this shop. Buyer beware!As for the responses from the owner, a faulty reading from a leak detector shouldnt cost the consumer $1787 in missed diagnosed repairs. I believe its a shops responsibility to keep their equipment in proper working condition (and checking again with the same faulty detector would still give the same faulty reading). Also, a slow leak should still show up when an air conditioning system is vacuumed down and held. If there is a leak, the system wont hold the vacuum (isnt this another way of seeing if the system HAS a leak)? Plus, the system was recharged, dye added and checked again for a leak. I am not saying that this was intentional but, it was very unprofessional. Either way is not acceptable plus the fact that no apology was given (except we can check it again) until I responded here nor was there an offer of a refund of the bad diagnostic charge.
