I moved to The Shores Santa Monica in June 2021 and this is far the best apartment Ive stayed in. Victoria, the leasing agent is awesome!l She made sure that the unit was in impeccable condition before the move-in. Maintenance crew and front desk clerk people are very attentive and friendly. Living at the Shores feels like living in a community filled with amazing people. Nothing beats the location! It is right next to the beach and hands down the best pool in Santa Monica.

UPDATE: I hear through the grapevine that the bars on the balconies may be replaced with glass. That would be a stunning improvement.Apartment was very dirty and lacked proper cleaning, I had to pay two people for 9 hours to clean it just to make it liveable, it was that bad. Dilapidated and unsightly finishes need renovation; ie. closet, cupboards and drawers, sliding door and window hardware, etc.Staff is friendly, maintenance or contracted work was sloppy, and upkeep is sparse. New management is promising.Theft occurs regularly from secured parking. 4 SEPARATE THEFTS TO ME ALONE OCCURED JUST IN THE SPAN OF 6 MONTHS! THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FALLS FLAT ON THE SHORES.INSTALLATION OF ADDITIONAL SECURITY CAMERAS PROVIDING FULL COVERAGE, A THOUROUGH PROFESSIONAL INSPECTION EXPOSING AND FIXING THE OBVIOUS SECURITY GAPS, AND AN UPGRADED SECURITY PROTOCOL WILL END THIS INTOLERABLE ACTIVITY. PLEASE TAKE ADDITIONAL MEASURES TO PROTECT RESIDENTS SECURITY!Frustrated, but making due and happy here. Location, proximity to ocean, and views are pretty much incomparable. Please step it up The Shores!

The location is nice, close to a lot of shops and restaurants. Some of the units have ocean view, a few with balconies. After touring this community, l decided to hold an apartment. However, l changed my mind because the property is really old. The leasing agent was nice, but a little pushy.

Not sure what there is to complain about. The building is great, pool, jacuzzi, gym and the grounds are incredible! Its like living in a lux hotel. The staff is super friendly and works hard to keep the building looking great. Very happy to be here!

There is constant secondhand smoke that goes into every apartment, and the building has not done anything to fix this issue, even though its illegal in Santa Monica. Residents can smoke inside all day long with zero repercussions, with it filling up all of the other apartments, and management does nothing about it. If you dont like living in a smoke-filled home, then dont move here.

I must say that after looking everywhere to buy a condo, I find The Shores a very good bet. Victoria, in the leasing department, was the first person I met 5 years ago, and she was extremely helpful. She helped me find my first apartment. Since then, I have moved into a unit with a north-facing view which I prefer. However, I now realize that the advice given to my by Victoria was correct. I have been looking all over for a 2 bedroom condo but not found anything with a better location and well-kept complex that rivals The Shores. This is what Victoria told me 5 years ago and its still true. Forget the condo. Ill stay here. Thanks for your patience in showing me all those units and all your help in making the best decision.

They have their shortcomings but the views are amazing and the location is perfect. You have a bunch of people that live here to complain but they are also the same people that have been living at the shores for 50 years.

Check Yelp Reviews, they are 100% accurate. This building is a joke and no one should ever pay their insane market rents of $4500-$9000++

* Check the YELP Reviews too.I have lived in The Shores for over one year and have decided not to renew my lease. I am a single father with 2 children and I have decided the two towers next to the beach is not a safe place to live. Please consider the following facts before visiting The Shores as a new place of residence.1. Several times a week, there is no elevator in service. There are 3 elevators and they are updating one of the elevators. Sometimes 1 elevator is working but its hard to get on it because people overcrowd the one elevator because they are so tired of waiting. One of my neighbors actually took a nap on the floor next to the elevators because he was so tired of waiting for the elevator. Several times a week, my boys and I will take the stairs to our apartment.2. There is no security at this location. Sometimes there is personnel at a desk by the front door but they do not like working at The Shores. They will not look up at you to make eye contact or say anything to you unless you say something to them first. They do not know the names of the residents. They let everyone in the front door. e v e r y o n e! .Turnover rate for these positions are high and I am guessing they work minimum wage. They are always talking on their own personal cell phones or watching movies on their phones. Again, they do not care about your safety.3. The pool is beautiful but it is a public pool . Since there is no security, often times the homeless people from Oceanview Park jump in the pool to bathe and get cleaned up. They also use the restrooms that are open 24 hours as well. The homeless and other public people walk directly on the property in a number of ways. The garage gates are slow and the garages are directly next to the park. As a car enters the garage, the gate does not close right away as it is delayed. This leaves plenty of time for people to walk right into the garage as a pathway. They follow residents up to their apartments and/or the pool. The public can also get onto the property by the post office - there is a very short wooden gate at this location and many teenagers hop this short wooden gate and they take over the pool and jacuzzi.4. The people that work here just dont care about the residents, including the leasing office and management office. The woman in the leasing office is from New York and she is rude and demonstrates passive aggressive behavior. My first impression was poor as she was complaining about her managers right in front of me. It was awkward. I felt sorry for her. I couldnt believe it.5. No air conditioning6. Apartments are outdated7. Paper thin walls - you can hear your next door neighbors television, toilet flushing, cabinets closing.8. Strong smell of cigarettes from people smoking on their balconies (many of the residents are elderly because of rent control) and a strong smell of weed too.9. The park next door is filled with homeless people and most are mentally ill. You can hear them screaming at each other all night long and all the bottles rattling against each other as they collect these bottles for recycling. This happens all night long. There is a tremendous amount of noise that comes from Main Street as well with all the small bars and restaurants. See the picture I posted. Homeless camped out 1 foot away from the property of The Shores.10. Laundry is downstairs and the washers are filled with hair and other dirty objects that cannot be filtered out of the washer. The optics of this place from a 30,000 view will look impressive. The real down to earth view will actually scare you and make you think about your safety. Folks, there are just too many other places to choose from. Trust me, dont choose to live here.

The building is in a great location and I like my unit ........but they advertise security and have greeters with no security qualifications. The building was supposed to be smoke free and a no pet building. In reality, many people smoke and 80% of the residents have the same filthy rag mop dog. The dogs can bark all night and fight in the common areas and elevators. There have been times when ALL of the elevators were broken. Many times hundreds of residents rely on one elevator. There have been physical fights requiring police reports, regarding elevator crowding. The residents can be nasty, refusing to take two seconds to hold the elevator for each other. Some residents actually feel inconvenienced when the elevator has to stop on a floor they dont live on. The walls are very thin. The previous review sites are fake. WARNING!! The building forces you to have “in-house” INTERNET and CABLE under the Frontier Brand, which is often down for a month, yes a month. No phone signal in the lobby. The phone signal is very unreliable. I had to use AT&T WIFI on my phone to stop dropped calls. Residents rent the units on Airbnb without punishment. A new resident reserved the freight elevator to move furniture in and a fellow resident removed the furniture and took the elevator to his floor then posted about his triumph of stealing the elevator on the residents Facebook page. I found it disappointing that no one on the Facebook page thought stealing the elevator while someone was moving in, was wrong. The mail receiving system is chaotic. When a package is given to the wrong resident the resident rarely returns it. The building is rent controlled and is operated like a low rent building except new residents pay inflated rent to offset the fact that many pay $700.00. Ironically the people paying the least have far more privileges. Zero Security!! The homeless are allowed to camp outside of the building and wait for darkness to fall. They use the pool, restrooms etc. The homeless regularly steal bikes and vandalize cars in the garage. The homeless routinely enter the building and wreak havoc on each floor. Management has obviously trained the desk attendants to release the homeless thieves caught in the act and to NOT report it to police. Recently a homeless man attempted to break into an older residents home. The lady was traumatized and died shortly after. The homeless murderer was never held accountable.

Overall I am not a fan and only wish more honest reviews existed when I signed my lease a few months ago. The only good thing is Victoria, as she is a pleasure to deal with, but once you move in, thats where the fun ends.Yes the location is great being right by the beach. But the laundry list of issues far outweigh everything else, and living here has been a colossal disappointment for me thus far. Reasons detailed below, most with photographic and documented evidence from myself and other residents.1. The elevators are a nightmare. 3 for 17 floors, however one has been out for repair since I moved here, and the other breaks down constantly or is being reserved for move in move outs, leaving one elevator for 250+ people.2. Touching again on the elevators, residents shame you if you have pets or live on low floors, as they feel you shouldnt be allowed to ride and have no problem making snark comments both to your face and behind your back3. The 20-30+ year tenants paying 1/4 of your market rent often times can be overwhelming. In the south tower they loiter in the lobby all day, and use the TV room as their personal living room, bringing in food, etc. They also rarely speak up regarding fixing things wrong with the building as their insanely low rent stifles their voice.4. Homeless issues on the premises. They follow cars into the south tower garage, have been caught doing drugs in the bathroom, and also bathing in the Jacuzzi. Better security is needed for the building as people also hop over the gate on Neilson at night and use our pool as a public amenity.5. I stopped using the Jacuzzi for longer than 10 mins at a time as they over chlorinate it, causing your skin to burn. This was one of the only perks I actually enjoy about The Shores but it literally makes it hard to sleep if you stay in for a good amount of time as it burns you6. Airbnb is rampart in the south tower especially, and due to rent control rules little can be done about it. They clog up our amenities, our elevators and are rude / loud. Complaints fall on deaf ears due to the archaic city process of getting these people out7. Front desk isnt well managed. While I like some of the employees, they often let people by without verifying with the resident that theyre even an approved visitor, and hand out parking passes like candy.8. The south tower parking lot fills up with beach goers and they never tow unauthorized vehicles. They park all the way to the fence in the no parking zone and force residents leaving the a and b garage to risk damage to their cars as they poke out leaving no room to exit or for 2 cars passing by at the same time9. Management cuts corners all over the place, and I have a feeling they will continue to until all the residents paying $1200 a month pass away. I could write a whole review just on that. My neighbors unit flooded and they didnt even put blowers in the hallway. Now outside my unit smells musty and moldy ever since.10. Lots of weed smokers for a non smoking building. A girl on my floor hot boxes the entire hallway every time she lights up, which is quite annoying as I was told no one smoked here.11. They force you to use frontier, and even at the highest speed, its literally like having dialup internet since the building wont allow Frontier to update it to Fiber Optic. I pay $185 a month for TV and dial up Internet... not kidding, and wasnt disclosed to me when signing my lease.
