Great no frills atmosphere, everyone is welcome and there are plenty of ways to scale the workouts to fit your body!
Love this place
As with many things in my life, I did not want to come here but was encouraged to by my wife and let me say, I am so glad she did! This place is phenomenal. It is a discreet store, located off of Roswell Road, near an old strip mall. You walk in and are a bit confused on what to do next. And from there it all changes. We met and had our class led by Daniel and honestly enjoyed ourselves (in a sweaty, exhausted after a workout sense) so much. The class lasts about an hour, with a group no larger than 12 people. The classes are more intimate, in the sense that you receive the 1x1 feedback while not being isolated or alone. The workouts are pretty intense and youll definitely feel the burn after.Honestly, I was hesitant and was also hesitant to join, but will definitely make the jump after such a great experience. Daniel was amazing and everyone in the class was encouraging and helpful as well.
I joined in April. I had been working out in a traditional gym and I was not pushing myself. At Crossfit Grinder everyone has different abilities but everyone pushes themselves hard, which I like a lot. This place has great people and trainers. I am glad I joined and I am getting results.
Joined here 2 months ago, and I have to say this place is quite addicting! The program was tough for me in the beginning (and still is some days!), but Coaches Daniel, Brandon, and E have been really knowledgeable and helped in scaling the WODs to meet my ability. And I have seen myself improving since the last 2 months - I definitely feel stronger overall and can do more in my daily life without feeling exhausted. I recommend Crossfit Grinder to everybody in the area!
Challenging programming and a good coach made for a great drop in experience while I was in town for work.
Initially I signed up for what I thought was a “free” 6 week challenge, but it ended up costing me more than two months of standard gym access if paying month to month. Along with the cost came the promise of extra trainer time, technique development, and a pair of Crossfit shoes (which I never received.) After the initial 6 week challenge, I decided to sign up for an additional 6 month period, but was ultimately unable to discern the difference between the challenge trial and every other class I attended. After a change in my circumstances, I was unable to utilize the facility for approximately the last 2 months of the agreed upon 6 months. When my membership ended, the manager of the gym, Daniel Bland, had no problem charging me for an additional 6 months. Figuring that it must be a mistake I reached out to him to try and resolve the situation and found him to be quite unreasonable and unwilling to refund my money.Daniel was the only reason I agreed to another 6 months beyond my initial 6 week challenge, because he always seemed genuine and friendly. He negotiated the pricing and even offered exclusive deals to individuals for “lifetime” membership. This is why I never made a big deal about never getting my shoes or the absurd 6 week challenge pricing. Now having 20/20 hindsight I believe he is not interested in the success of his athletes, but very keen on making as much money as possible regardless if his gym is used. After browsing a few reviews I came to find out that I am not the only person who’s had billing troubles or similar situations. It would seem that Daniel Bland has a history of scamming people of their money under the guise of automatic renewable memberships.I strongly advise using caution when entering any kind of dealings with Daniel Bland or Crossfit Grinder. There is no shortage of Crossfit gyms in the greater Atlanta area and I would suggest due diligence and resort to Crossfit Grinder as a very last resort. After this billing headache, I can safely say that I will personally never do business with them ever again.
While crossfit high intensity workouts worried me at first, Grinder was great because they have great coaches and members on all levels of skill and development. Great coaches, great teams of athletes, and a family atmosphere.
This was my first experience at a CrossFit gym ever, indeed it could seem a bit intimidating at first! However, the group was knowledgeable and supportive; they motivated me and facilitated the most kick butt workout! I highly recommend Crossfit Ginder!! They certainly acquired a new regular out of me!!!
Great atmosphere, great athletes, great trainers. Been doing Crossfit 3+ years & love working out here! Gyms been growing steadily but still feels very personal. Programming rocks, too - good balance of traditional Crossfit & heavy lifting.
I joined Crossfit Grinder about a year ago. It is a small gym and I liked the small classes and found coaches who classes I really enjoyed. Back in April, Daniel changed up the coaching schedule and started teaching most if not all of the classes himself, I was not a big fan of his coaching style and stopped attending the gym. I had paid for a 6 month unlimited membership, this was about a month into it. Since not attending for 5 months, I had moved out of GA to NY and with the move forgot to officially cancel the membership and with my lack of attendance did not think it would renew. I got charged for another 6-month membership ($595). I emailed Daniel (the owner) explaining to him not only had I stopped attending but I moved over 1000 miles away and it was an oversight and could he offer me a refund. I was told that they gym pays a transaction fee (which from my experience is typically 5% or $30) and due to that and the fact that the gym apparently does not have any money in the savings account he refused any short of refund and took me $600 knowing full well I am unable to use to membership. This to me is unethical and in very poor taste, I understand if there was a transaction fee that I needed to pay or if I needed to pay a cancellation fee, but keeping the full 6 month membership on a technicality feels to be like stealing someones hard earned money for a service you know you cannot provide of live up to. This is the second crossfit gym I joined, the one I had attended before moving to GA felt like a family and that was what I was hoping for in the gym, I did not expect an owner who runs his business so poorly he will fight to keep this $600 and makes it seem like it will make or break him. I picked Crossfit Grinder because it was the least expensive gym in the area, and I have learned you get what you pay for and it is inexpensive for a reason and Daniel does not have a compassionate or human side and is just concerned about your money and not your fitness journey, and will keep every dime he can get his hands on.When I had emailed Daniel after he refused my refund (and offered me a free 6-months if I ever came back - which in my experience if I pay for something it is not free) I communicated to him that I would be leaving a review and fighting the charge. He responded saying that if I wanted to smear his name online karma would take care of the rest. First of all writing the truth online to warn other customers is not a smear campaign and second, in my opinion karma will get a business owner like Daniel who does something like this and takes someones money on a technicality and provide no service. There is no customer service here do not waste your hard earned money on this gym as the owner is not a good person and does not deserve it, if he can morally be okay with taking peoples money because his gym and business is not doing well (which is his problem not mine) and has no concern if the service he is providing is up to par - it is not someone you want to take a personal fitness journey.Pay the extra money and go to one of the other crossfit gyms in the area, you wont regret it. I wish I had. I am paying for it now by choosing this gym.
If you are in the Atlanta area and love Crossfit, then I would highly recommend Crossfit Grinder. The atmosphere there is fun and friendly. The coaches I had when I was there was Daniel and Etsehiwot (I had Estehiwot on a previous trip). They both gave advice when needed and also complimented on your form. This gym is a little smaller than other gyms which in my opinion is great. That means a more personalized one on one experience. At one of the WODs I was at, there was another coach (Brandon) helping out as well. He was going around making sure the other athletes were performing the moves correctly and giving advice. It doesnt matter what your skill level is, you will have a fun experience here and maybe even learn something new. I will definitely go back if I am in the Atlanta area to get my WODs in.
