The worst possible service one could expect. My flight arrived at 2:16PM SFO and I was at Avis by 2:30PM on a Sunday afternoon. I got to speak with the lady at the front desk only 3:30PM. As a justification behind waiting for 45 mins, she said that it is the best they can do.My car was booked by my corporate travel team. I am new to the city and repeatedly requested for a car with navigation system or map services or at least a phone holder. Instead they gave me an ancient car which shows USB unsupported (Photo attached).I kept the car for about 10 days. The whole time, the car was constantly beeping and flashing Immediate maintenance required.As a newcomer to the Bay Area who is not used to driving at a perpetual speed of 80mph, not having access to map and the condition of the car made me feel completely unsafe.

Service folks attitudes were gruff at 11 pm, which was 1 hour until they closed. But I just got off a 1.5 hour delayed flight so I’d think if anyone has the right to be grumpy it should be me, not them. They had one guy working the counter on the 4th floor (ground floor counters closed). Nobody was waiting in line either. There were plenty of cars though, which I had been worried about because I had heard there was a shortage in USA and sometimes if you’re late they’ll give your car away. The app lets you bypass the checkin counter and go straight to your car. You can also change cars if you don’t like what they gave you, but since my car was new I kept it. The app had a feature to allow me to exit by scanning a QR code. There is also an attendant at the exit if you don’t have internet or want him to note any damages on the car before exiting. Another concern I had was that they only open at 6 am. But fortunately they do have a key drop box (there seems to be conflicting information out there about early returns and this feature, but I can confirm I saw it and asked the attendant who said it is useable). I am old school however and I waited for an attendant to arrive when returning the car on the 4th floor. I arrived at 5:45 am and by 5:55 am someone was there with a handheld to check-in cars. nobody was returning cars but me. It was really peaceful there. Bathrooms are on the first floor if you need it while waiting. They still had plenty of cars for rent in their parking lot too. The check-in attendant said I already showed on his handheld as having returned the car. There is a feature to do that on their app, but I didn’t use it. Weird. So he told me to go to the front desk to get the receipt. A lady was still setting up the desk and by 6:10 am she was up and running. Got my receipt and was out of there by 6:15 am. Crossed the street to Terminal B and went through security even though my flight was from Terminal A. Good option if you don’t have luggage to check. Easy and quick walk as the terminals are linked so you don’t have to go through security again and can grab Pete’s or Starbucks which are just inside Terminal B on the way to Terminal A (chick filet there too). Overall great experience despite all the unknowns before renting which I have hopefully documented for ya’ll in this review.

I have rented a vehicle from Avis after a long and I was pleasantly surprised. Nice and clean van with hybrid fuel option, great pickup and drop off service and good price. This van made our road trip so enjoyable that we have decided we will be giving Avis our first preference when renting a vehicle. Great job Avis!!

Update: email to the costumer service, not a smooth process.After carefully reviewed my recent 3 trips. I realized that they overcharged me~20 mileage fee~150 gas service fee~100 gas service fee~90 gas service feeThe first round, the CS refund me the mileage fee and ask for a copy of the gas receipt from the actual gas station that includes the name of the station, the address, the dollar amount and the number of gallons purchased, showing purchased fuel just prior to return.This is rediculous, what if I refill with cash? and not asked for the receipt.I used credit card so I replied the email with the transaction screenshot.Then they replied me saying that they need the image in attach files.OK I replied and attach the transaction pdf.Than they replied me they refund me 90 for the first rental. And obviously they ignored the other two.I replied again clarified that I have 3 rentals with same issue.Finally today they fixed all.Each round of the reply takes 2~3 days.------------- The following are original 1-star reviewThey charge gas service fee for a full return. I have three trips with AVIS recently, when I returned the car, I filled up the gas and confirmed with the staff that they would refund me the deducted gasoline money. But two weeks have passed and I have not received any notice. So I went to check the receipts, and found that all three of my car rental journeys were charged for gas (82+127+75). This is ridiculous. If I didnt check my credit card bill, I would never find them cheating.

Rented a car for a one-way rental from San Jose airport to LAX and was happy with the experience. Unlike the competition, Avis didnt charge extra for a one-way rental. Pick up was smooth and the agent was friendly despite taking a little longer than expected. The drop-off was easy and quick. My only complaint isnt Avis fault. The Camaro I drove is just a poorly designed vehicle. Low roof line, a useless center console, small trunk with a high lift-over, tight interior space. It was good on gas though. Anyway, I would definitely recommend Avis.

I returned the car full. The attendant checked the car and said thank you. I get home and check my email receipt and I am charged $18.99 for a full tank of gas. Tried calling customer service. They answered but said I would have to call back tomorrow. I cannot recommend a company that does these types of things and then make it difficult to contact.

I want to thank Avis customer service representative Shah T. for taking a good care of me on 05/17/2021.The other Avis customer service representative( unfortunately I didn’t catch her name) messed up with my reservation and didn’t explain anything at all. Thank God I went to the 4th floor and met Shah T who helped me a lot!!! He took a good care of me, fixed all mistakes. Avis management you should have more customer service representatives like Shah T. I was really impressed with the service he provided to me. Thank you!!!

I booked directly through your website that was offering 30% off. When I went to pickup the car it said the discount code that I used, which was automatically applied when I booked, said I needed to show proof that I worked for Google because it was a Google employee code. I went to show the the person at SFO desk that the code AUTOMATICALLY inserts itself on your website, he would not give me the car and I had re-book the same car at a more expensive price. It was a complete bait and switch. When I told him I wanted to speak to someone, he said no. I will NEVER use Avis again. Total joke.

This Avis center is just your normal airport Avis. The attendees handled everything professionally and were able to handle multiple customers. There was all 2 agents on duty, average time was about 1hr. For the line wait. The agents handled every customer with the attention expected. The vehicle i recieved was clean, smelled good, and had a sanitized certification slip in it. No issues with the vehicle. The return, was a bit confusing-there was not return agent or attendant. I did everything you do when returning a rental. I then had to go to the main booth, turn in my contract, verify the vehicles fuel, and then was given my reciept. I would plan and extra 20 min onto of normal return time In your return travels for this airport. I would use this Avis again.

You didnt have the car I booked to rent.. They upgrade me to a bigger car and charged me $15.00 extra a day than what I booked. Then the car you gave me the key fog battery was dead and the car wouldnt start. I went back to the agent and she couldnt find a battery or another key fog for that car. So she gave me another car which was dirty. It had mud inside all the doors and footprints and dirt all over the dashboard and inside the doors. I feel the car was not disinfected or clean since I had to clean it when I got home. Not very happy with the process or condition of the cars.

Do yourself a favor and rent somewhere else. This is the worst rental company I’m telling you base on experience. I gave this company multiple times of chance but their service is the worst. All they care about is money. They over charged me $1300 because “I didn’t return the car on time”, when in fact I returned it before the due time. And many more bad experiences. Go somewhere else.

First time renting from Avis and the experience is the absolute worst. Never thought car rental could ruin your entire holiday, but here it is.Incident 1: We rented a pick-up truck from SJC airport. The lady who helped us at the counter was friendly and nice, we asked if the vehicle is diesel or gas and she told us that it is diesel (there were 5 of us there and we couldnt hear it wrong). And after driving to Tahoe, we added 8 gallons of diesel before someone nearby told us it is a gas car. We immediately stopped and looked it up, realized it is actually a gas car. Soon later we saw ignition error sign on the dashboard and to play safe, we did not touch the car again.Incident 2: I waited for an hour before I could talk to a representative from roadside assistance on the phone. The lady contacted towing company and arranged for the vehicle to be towed to a maintenance location. She assured me that she reserved a replacement vehicle at our closest Avis location, Reno-Tahoe International Airport, and that I could go pick it up any time. We went there after roughly 2 hours and the counter told us there is no such thing, they would not give us the vehicle until they received the first car from the towing company. Sure, I understand it might be your company policy but why give false information that the car is ready? To make things worse, we were stuck at the airport with no way to get home, they wouldnt give me a car and Uber back home costs $300+. It was another 3 hours of phone call (customer service and roadside assistance went back and forth saying they cant do anything and referred me to the other department. There was a supervisor lady from customer service that transferred me to roadside assistance when I was still explaining to her I tried roadside assistance and it didnt help.) before we got a Uber to go home.At this moment, I am still not sure how these two incidents will be resolved. I am still waiting for the replacement vehicle, and not sure if Avis will charge me for the diesel gas mix-up that was honestly not our fault. In summary, one false information after another, rude customer service, unprofessional staff. Please save yourself some trouble and not rent from Avis, otherwise it might completely ruin your trip just like it did to mine.

I have had THE worst experience in the thirty years of being an exclusive Avis customer with many many rentals. Customer Service has not responded to phone calls or emails on a recent rental issue. It has been so frustrating. The last car had a maintenance issue and was undriveable. Three calls to Roadside assistance. One jump, then a second day where the car wouldnt start. I arranged for roadside assistance to pick up only to find out ten days later the car was never picked up and I was still being charged. Getting thru to Customer Service was like if I imagine trying to break the firewall at the Pentagon....impossible. Many hours on hold. Voicemails that hung up on me. Automations hanging up on me. Email promises that a rep was on it, but after about ten emails I have yet to have anyone say it is resolved. Oh yea...kicker is that I have been charged part of the rental and took Avis 30 days to find the car while I was on the hook for it, even though Roadside assistance had arranged pick up. So so frustrating especially, to still as of this hour, for no one to respond. Disappointed is an understatement as I asked several customer service reps that I did get a hold of and asked to please advocate for me only for them to push me off in to the nebulous of on hold land. As someone who helps to lead a larger team and organization I would never except this type of performance, response and care from my team to its customers.

I reserved a luxory auto and when i went to the desk was told that you had no more left, so i settled for the jeep which they did discount. When i went up to pick the car the first thing i saw was many at least 15 luxory cars there. I may not be a Avis prefered customer, but i still do not want to be lied to. My car was half wet and the gps system kept changiing languages and we could not ubnderstand it. Otherwise the car was fine, but surley not as comfortable as a luxory car would have been.on this short trip i took. i was truly disapointed. I have a car reserved this coming Friday through Monday and the only reason I didnt use another carrier is it has been pre-paid. I will see how it goes this time if I will ontinue to use Avis.

Omg I cant tell you how bad this place is!So I rented a car for a week. Completely unprofessional guy was on lunch or something when I got there nobody at the counterfor 30 minutes. I rented an luxury full sized suv. They game me a Honda CRX but charged me the same car was dirty with in and out. Weed pipe in center consol but Im like what ever no biggie.. then 3 weeks after rental they sent me a bill for $500 saying that there was animal hair in the car. Its such a shame they lost my business I use rentals for work at less 2 time a month and never really had a bad experience until now. I made sure my work dose not use them anymore. I hope you find a better rental place like Hurtz 👍

Oakland Airport return was abysmal! Agent in the field put in the wrong mileage so return failed. Limited staff lead to 1 hour wait in line for check-in. Need better training and more staff ASAP

I called avis to extend my rental agreement for one day and I couldnt get through to them and dont let me extend for one more day. Its like I cannot pay it. It just that it doesnt allow me to extend it and I cannot get through and and talk to the agent in San Jose Airport... I have no idea what is the issue to this problem... I tell you what. I will never rent at Avis Again.. I do not recommend it

The woman who helped me was very knowledgeable and was able to help me to the fullest.Despite the Covid-19 virus, things still were running smoothly. The cars are dirty at the time of pick up, and and you have to wait for staff to come is staff to come when you pick up at 6 AMA MI did not get out of there Until 6:45 a.m. and I was Supposed to be on the road at 6 Ami had to wait for a staff member at the gate for 30 minutes and when he got to the gate I had to wait until he moved the cars that were blocking the gate. I called Avis to let them know about my experience and and the gentleman just hung up on me. Me. I am waiting for them to come back I am waiting for them to come back. All also when they say that when they say that the gas tank is full, comma make sure that you are looking directly is that you are looking directly at the gas before you take off before you take off because my gasting was not full . And the staff is rude and not customer friendly.

When we arrived at SJC, the SUV that we booked was not ready/available. When I told the staff that I was headed to my sons college graduation and needed the SUV to help him move and I was under time constraints, they were awesome. They found me a SUV and the woman at the 4th floor booth straightened out our paperwork. We were so stressed that I dont think that I truly expressed how grateful we were to her and the check in staff. I was and am truly appreciative and thankful for their efforts. We made it to Santa Cruz with plenty of time and watched our son graduate in a COVID adapted ceremony that was just as special as a traditional ceremony. Thank you SJC for your assistance.

I was having a bad day trying to rent my car for the price I was told by a different company. I was overwhelmed and looked over and saw Edwin at Avis. I walked over he looked at rates for me and was able to find me a car I wanted for the price I was happy with. He even went out of his way to run upstairs to personally verify the car would be there and ready for pick up. His customer service was great! He did everything he could to make me a happy customer. Please go see him if your looking into renting a car he is great!! Avis Good Hire! I will defiantly be a returning customer. THANK YOU EDWIN.

Im a loyal Avis user. I love being able to land, bypass the desk, and go straight to my vehicle. Today, my reserved vehicle wasnt in the space I was directed to via the Avis app, but the agent at the Avis Preferred desk quickly switched me to a different similar vehicle and I was on my way in 2 minutes as if there were no hiccup at all. Thanks for making car rentals easy and headache free!!

As this was my first car rental experience (I used Priceline, with Avis/Budget), I tried to be prepared for any up coming issues of charges, card use, or vehicle conditions. First, the location was a bit questionable, which gave cause to be cautious. Now, the man inside got things started, told me in order to use my credit/ debit card, they needed to do a credit check with my SS#. I allowed. No, not able to use a combo card (I new this could be a possibility). Luckily, my family member had a Credit Card (DONT LET YOUR RIDE LEAVE TILL YOUR ALL DONE). All original paperwork was changed to her name, I got added as second driver. There was a $200 hold on the card, which was expected (it pays to read all of terms & conditions), the car was clean and ready to go. I did a walk around with him to check for any previous damages and there was one, so he marked it on the paper copy and handed one to me. I loaded the car with my things, gave hugs, got in, sanitized a few surfaces and off I went in a new Kia K5 LXE (my first driving one) that was kind of sporty. Great gas mileage. $50 from San Diego to the San Jose area. My total rental was $146 + $13 added insurance coverage. Id do it again. 🙂

Do NOT use Avis at SJO. I rented a car beginning two months ago. Twice I contacted the agency requesting to extend my rental period on the same terms as original rental. Both times they assured me they would do. When I was charged, they actually raised the rate dramatically. When I reminded them that they had AGREED to this, they’ve ignored that fact. The overcharge is enormous. I would recommend using any other rental agency. There are plenty to choose from who will not cheat you.

Dont rent from AVIS, I very disappointed on this rental. First, I picked up my rental at San Jose airport, on my way to the hotel I heard a weird noise, I didn’t notice anything wrong, then the next at night I needed to go grab dinner and just as exit the hotel parking lot, the noise was even louder, I got off and the back passenger tire was completely flat. It took me like an hour to get roadside help, when finally, was helped, I had to wait almost an hour for someone to come and replace the tire with the spare tire in the vehicle. I couldn’t go to dinner just yet, AVIS does not deliver a replacement vehicle to the customer, the customer needs to go to the nearest location which at that time the closest location was San Francisco airport. I drove to the airport, then bumped in to that preferred members desk is close so I had to go to regular line, waited for almost 35 minutes to be help, finally got a new vehicle, went to the vehicle drove off the spot but as soon as I drove off, the change oil sign turn on, I checked and there was only 1% left, reversed and parked back on the spot and went back to the counter. The line was even longer it took me almost 45 minutes to get another vehicle. This is the second time I go through something similar on my last vacation trip as you can see on my records if they keep records of incidents, for this incident I was reached out by an AVIS representative that offer me a $50 which I never got. To be honest I will most likely be moved to another car rental if that is the way a preferred member is treated.

I prepaid for the car months prior. Car was not ready. My name and car stall was not on the marquis. Waiting a long line with about 12 rentals in front of me for about 40 minutes. Only ONE person at the desk. Then my car had trash in the back seat. Windows was not cleaned.Upon the return, the gentleman told me to take a picture of the odometer & gas and wait in another long line of returns.YOU ARE RUNNING A BROKEN BUSINESS HERE.Absolutely a failure in everything.Can believe your still in business.We try harder... is 100% a bogus slogan.And BTW, this experience is not unique.It is common-tale with Avis.

The agent who was working the preferred counter was very rude to say the least. I couldnt find my preferred number because I didnt have a credit card associated with my account and the lady didnt believe me that I was a preferred member and told me that we had to go to the counter on the 3rd floor. As we get to the 3rd floor and get in line, the lady came chasing us saying that she had found our reservation. The problem we had was that there was no line or anyone waiting in the preferred line and we were not lying about being preferred as she had assumed. Enterprise will now be getting our business!

And I accidentally selected the wrong residence, when I asked to change it to USA the price got quadrupled!But I like that they hire some people with minor disability; its good for the employees and society. Great car quality and upgraded with no charge. But when you return car, be sure to check to bill. The attendant must be sleeping and charged me for a full tank of prepaid gas when I declined it at check out. i was only there for 16 hours for a quick visit, wnt 70 miles. Why would I want to prepay for a tank! Had to take much time waiting on its 800 line to get it credited.

We were given a Hyundai that was not clean at all!! It had splotches of sticky stuff on the dash and the skirt around the shift column had what appeared to be caked on food. There was NO way I was going to take the car. My husband went back to the counter and we were given a different car that SO much cleaner! I really appreciated that they were open to solving the problem, thank you!

The tire had a leak the low tire light was on the minute I got in the car the wiper fluid was empty had to buy a bottle and fill my tire every day the oil light came on low on oil had to buy some how did this car leave all the dummy light wear on

Car selection is poor. It seems I never get my one car class upgrade even though I rent often. Never used to have this problem. I had to wait 20 minutes to get a car even though Im a preferred member and had a reservation.

I was overcharged for fuel (it was full) and for being an hour late. $116 for 1 hour. When i called, i was told lets move on and see what we can do. How do you say that to a customer? No responsibility but rather attitude. I was told that Im being helped rather than being wuestioned whether i actually even filled the tank. I need a call from someone who has some sense of customer service and empathy.

One of your renters crashed into my parked vehicle while I was staying at a hotel. This caused over 6 thousand dollars as well as severe damage to the hotel building. The issue I’m having is that your company is refusing to pay for my deductible as well as my rental. You obviously rent to people without verifying who they are and with zero accountability. I would stay far away from this company as they do not guarantee the public’s safety.

We booked a car online with debit card. At pickup, they told us we cant get a car because we didnt have a credit card. This was not advised anywhere in the booking process and put us into an awkward position as we really needed a car that day.

We had the best experience today at the Avis/Budget counter with agent Shah T. I rented a minivan for a trip to Florida and when speaking with customer support online they suggested I visit the location for the rental pick up (San Jose Airport) to view the vehicles and ensure we would be happy with the vehicle. We did this a day ahead of our reservation pickup. Shah T was incredible. He mentioned that it was the perfect suggestion by the agent I spoke with on the phone. Shah went above and beyond what was expected. He allowed me to view the vehicle and suggested we take the car that day to avoid any issues when picking up the next day. My husband and I went back mid afternoon to pick up the vehicle. Shah remembered me and it was an easy transaction of 5 minutes to process. He even went to the vehicle with us on the 4th Floor and walked through the vehicle and how to operate the Stow and Go seating. Thank you Shah for making us so happy to be Fastbreak members with Budget.

National Car rental is easily twice as good as Avis.Avis will charge more, give you a crappy car, and typically screw up the return process where you have to spend lots of time fixing.$380 for 5 days of car rental for a dirty filthy Hyundai Accent.Shame!
