I had a fabulous stay at the Chateau Tivoli in the Lola Montez Suite. The home is beautiful, well decorated, and very comfortable. The hostess couldn’t have been more accommodating and breakfast she made each morning was delicious! The Lola Montez Suite was fantastic with 2 bedrooms, a full bath, and a sitting area. The hostess was very helpful with local recommendations and made my stay great.I heartily recommend this fine B&B. I will most definitely stay there on my next visit to San Francisco!

Spend one night at Chateau Tivoli and was absolutely FLOORED by the beauty of this historic bed and breakfast, the excellent customer service, and thoughtful details during our stay. Myself and two other guests stayed at the Lily Langtry Suite, a two bedroom suite in the basement with our own private entrance. Kelly was very accommodating and brought cheese and wine to our suite to respect COVID social distancing (in lieu of the evening wine and cheese social). In the morning, we were served an awesome breakfast! The location is perfect (right next to the Painted Ladies) and I didnt have any problems finding street parking. The entire stay, I felt pampered and safe and would HIGHLY recommend anyone who is staying in San Francisco to treat yourself to this full service bed and breakfast!

We felt like a Royalty during our 30th Anniversary stay at the hotel. From the moment we arrived, we know exactly this hotel was special. From the concierge that opened our taxi door through to the wonderful reception team. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud wish I could have taken it home with me! I will surely recommend this hotel to all of my friends.

The place was fantastic and old, just as described. Made me feel like going back in time a bit, my party stayed for almost a week in the lower two bedrooms. Staff was great, the wine and cheese was great in the evenings too after strolling the city and the morning breakfast was great with the large dinning room table. Beautiful place!

I am thrilled to have Chateau Tivoli right down the street from my apartment for when my network of travelers, friends and family come to stay in San Francisco. The history is rich is this classic Painted Lady Victorian, and gives all my travelers a true, unique San Francisco experience. The inn keeping staff provides excellent service and attention to anything my guests need - and the breakfast and happy hours are lovely and delicious. For so long I was not tuned in to this B&B even though it was so close, but with all of the recent upgrades, improvements, love and care that has gone into it recently, I cant wait for my next guests to spend their stay there so I can enjoy it again and again.

This is a unique place to stay. It is in a nice part of San Francisco about 5 minute walk from the painted ladies. The rooms are lovely, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is delicious and you get to meet fellow travellers and share interesting stories as you eat breakfast together. At the end of a long day there is free wine and cheese. So much better than staying in a hotel.

I really cant speak highly enough of this place. There is so much of San Franciscos history between those walls, coupled with a beautiful Victorian aesthetic. This is our go-to hotel in the area because my sister lives nearby. They always take good care of you. Try not to have a car if you can help it, the parking can be difficult.

My stay at the Chateau Tivoli was absolutely delightful. The room was decorated beautifully and it was filled with character and splendor. The staff was very welcoming and easy to talk to. I only rated it 4 stars because I was expecting a little more of a substantial breakfast than was provided on their continental breakfast. Im not sure what their weekend champagne breakfast includes. However, my stay was excellent, the architecture and interior design were great.

Coming from Norway San Francisco was our first stop on the new continent. And it couldnt been better . This stylish villa makes a fantastic impression and has its own climate. Quiet yet central, we got a really good night sleep. Nicolai, the innkeeper/owner was a very nice welcoming person. Last but not least we got a fantastic breakfast, homemade and delicious. The Chateau Tivoli will remain in our minds as a beautiful start of the vacation in USA. We recommend this place.

Chateau Tivoli just oozes elegance. The attention to detail is unrivaled - the ceilings are painted, the sitting area is posh, and there are even (non-working) fireplaces in some of the rooms. Each room has a lot of space, and it is has a very welcoming vibe. The beds could be a little softer, but that is just one minor complaint.

The room was beautiful and the location is nice and quite. The bed was comfortable and I had a great night sleep. However, the reason I’m rating this place 4 out of 5 stars is for two reasons. When I walked into the room it smelled musty and old, there was no fresh smell and it smelled exactly like a dusty attic. The room I stayed in cost over $300, so you would think the property would offer better breakfast options than they did. On the plus side, the location is not far from restaurants with better breakfast options.

I am so glad that the hubs and I decided to find a place to stay in the city instead of at a friends house in San Ramon. Dont get me wrong. We love that friend, but the traffic into and out of town two days in a row might have killed us. So, I called up the establishment last minute and asked if they had a room available that was quiet because the hubs was in town for a residency interview at UCSF and he needed to be up by 5:30am to begin interview rounds at 7am after an evening out at a meet and greet session the night before.

Great brunch, and a nice selection of wines and cheeses if youre around in the early evening. Thanks Chateau Tivoli!

We left our hearts in San Francisco’s Chateau Tivoli! What a wonderful & beautiful weekend spent in the grandest of all the Victorian Painted Ladies of San Francisco. Kelly and her team worked hard to ensure that my husband and I would have a most unforgettable weekend at this historical and greatly loved establishment. We arrived about 2 hours before check in time expecting only to leave our luggage while out and about on the town. When we entered the majestic parlor/lobby, we did a double take as the photos the Chateau Tivoli do not do her justice! So much attention to detail in the architecture, wood work, furniture pieces, antiques, stained glass windows, wow! I especially loved looking at the photographs that were taken of the château before her renovation began in the 1980’s. I had read about the history of the chateau but seeing her transformation in photos is clear that so much love and care went into the resurrection of this gorgeous landmark. And great news- our room was ready so we could unpack our belongings and experience the room for the first time. Our reservation was a bit last minute meaning we booked about a week before our weekend getaway to celebrate my husband’s milestone birthday. The only room available at the time of booking was the Lucia Tetrazzini – the most romantic and lovely of all the rooms the Chateau Tivoli has to offer. It is the room that had we had our pick of them all, would have been our first choice! I mean, who doesn’t love a room named after a famous opera star! My husband and I both love all things vintage and the arts, so you can imagine our delight when we walked into the gorgeous suite room! We took our time taking it all in and looking at each detail from the ceiling featuring Greco/Roman representations of earth, fire, wind and water to the wood carvings of the headboard of the canopy bed. Had the velvety antique parlor settee fit in my luggage, I would have brought her home! ;) Much to our delight we found out that on the weekends champagne breakfast is served simply by signing up the day before. The next morning Kelly, the chateau manager, greeted us with her warm friendly smile and uncorked a bottle of champagne to compliment our breakfast. We had the most delicious French toast, with perfectly prepared bacon and fresh berries! I mentioned to Kelly how berries are my favorite and she later brought me an extra side of raspberries & blackberries. So thoughtful! After a full day of seeing the sights including Alamo Square just down the street amidst other Painted Ladies, we returned and helped ourselves to 3 different types of cheeses, crackers, dried fruit, nuts, and oh yes, a choice of red or white wine! We took advantage of the chess set in the parlor while enjoying our wine & cheese. The only thing missing was the sound of classical music or even opera playing from a gramophone! Our final morning (the day of my husband’s birthday) we enjoyed another delicious breakfast of fresh broccoli cheese quiche and salad greens. I had forgotten to sign us up on the breakfast list, but Kelly had us covered. We met the nicest people sitting at the long dining room table representing Germany, Australia and New Jersey. Our breakfast club joined in on singing happy birthday to my husband. Once again, we served champagne and toasted to the birthday boy. We were able to leave our luggage while enjoying our last day in SF and returned about an hour before needing to leave for the airport. Kelly invited us to make ourselves at home in the parlor even though we had checked out earlier in the morning. We were so happy to stay & sit just a while longer at the chateau. We are so grateful to Kelly and her team for such a hospitable experience. There is no where else we would ever want to stay, and we look forward to returning soon to reclaim our hearts stolen by the opulent and elegant Victorian Painted Lady- Chateau Tivoli.

What a great experience staying at this historic B&B in a great location. It is located on the same street as the Alamo Square and the Painted Sisters. The hostess was really great and made us feel like we were old friendsWe stayed 2-nights in the basement suite which had its own ground-level entrance. We felt like we were staying in a museum with all sorts of stuff animals on the main walls, a rather large library and each room tastefully decorated.Every day (around 5PM) that we stayed there was a complimentary wine-n-cheese hour in the library as a enticement to get the various guests at the B&B to mingle. This was a nice touch. The breakfast area was in a large area and the meals were good.

We stayed in the two bedroom downstairs suite which was both eclectic and cozy. The house has a rich history that comes out in the decor. The only downside is the lack of dedicated parking but its SF so its to be expected.

This place is gorgeous. The breakfast was great. The rooms were adorable and it was very close to the venue we were going to for New Years. Definitely recommend staying here if you get a chance. Minus a star because the overnight staff is only on-call, so if you get stuck outside with no key and a dead phone, youre kind of screwed. Lol. Lucky for me it was New Years so I just had to wait for some of the roomies to get back and let me in...

Very nice facility but breakfast was extremely disappointing. A champaign breakfast is advertised for Sat./Sun. Although champaign was available on Sunday, we were told that only a continental breakfast was available. After eating for several minutes we were offered scrambled eggs. Later we were offered sausage/bacon. After we finished breakfast we were offered quiche and fruit. This is certainly no way to treat guests! Please tell guests ALL that is being offered for breakfast instead of deceiving them.

We stayed in the Tetrazzini Suite. The staff is very nice and helpful with getting settled and giving assistance on tourist sites, restaurants, and public transportation. The bathroom was clean. On the other hand, the suite had many issues where items were not maintained. The wood furniture had broken pieces, the carpeting did not lay flat, some of the windows did not open, nor the one to the fire escape which was so heavy it would have been impossible to hold open while trying to get out. Also, much of the upholstery did not appear clean and many of the springs in the seating pieces were broken. The heavy brocade canopy, over the bed, was torn and unsightly, with stuffing exposed from the quilting. From the good reviews it seemed the upkeep on the antiques would have been expected. But on these points we were very disappointed.

Very nice, extraordinary building. We had our room on the top floor, there is no elevator and the stairs are narrow and steep. Our room was large and the bed was very comfortable. The building is very noisy, luckily I had earplugs with me, so I could sleep like a dream. We shared our bathroom with another room, which worked without any problems. The bathroom and the room were very clean. The breakfast was okay, on the weekend there is a brunch that is worthwhile and included. The staff was incredibly friendly (with one exception, at the reception we werent really greeted nicely, everything went hush-hush and we were just dealt with quickly). The hotel is a bit out of the way, you walk about 50 minutes to downtown, but the area is clean and safe. There are some good restaurants in the vicinity. We can recommend the Château Tivoli!
