I highly recommend Roark Gym. I was a member for three months and I had absolutely the best time. The coach is really helpful and he motivates you every second of your training. The sessions are super fun and not boring at all. There is a strong focus on strength and interval training. Every class starts with an interesting question about your personality which make you connected with other people working out with you. Sadly, I had to shift my house and I couldnt continue. But I am thinking about changing my place back again just so that I could start it again. The price is a bit on higher end but you get individual attention like no other Gym. Believe me I have tried a few of them. If they offer any discount, maybe I shift to some place nearby. ๐ Also, I suggestion to owner to have more corporate discounts for fellows like me.
Ive been coming to Roark for a few months now. I am an avid exerciser who has done a lot of running, cycling, basketball, yoga, etc. in the city. I dont have trouble motivating myself to work out, but I do sometimes lack motivation to really push myself. This is one of the main reasons I love coming to Roark. Rich is a great coach and a cool guy. I enjoy getting to know the other people at class and the way Roark creates a community vibe. The workouts are challenging but doable, and Ive seen a positive progression in how I feel both physically and mentally. Ive never wanted to spend much money on working out, but Roark really brings the value and makes it worth it.
Richard Fly at the SoMa gym is terrific. Iโve done boot camp, and worked with a personal trainer, and he is among the best coaches Iโve known. He really is a coach: challenges but encourages, explains the workout clearly, watches us and gives individual tips that are easy to implement. His workouts are a bright spot in my day.
Ive been visiting this gym for a few months now and I cant say enough good things about it. The coaches are phenomenal and the routines are intense. The workout structure is a carefully put together mix of weight lifting and high intensity movements that lead to rapid improvements in strength and physique.
I love this gym so much! The facilities and coaching are world class and the workouts are absolutely addictive. Highly recommend anyone looking to get in shape or take their fitness to the next level join a Roark Gyms!
I highly recommend Roark. Ive been a member for four months and I cant say enough good things. The coaches are extremely attentive. The workouts are varied and focus on strength and interval training. Instruction and form are a priority. Youll certainly start seeing results if begin coming to Roark!
I LOVE THIS GYM! The workouts are tough but Rich always makes it a point to work with each and every person in class, knowing we arent all on the same fitness level. Ive been going to the Soma location for a couple months now and its just always so much fun - we laugh, we joke and we work hard! And its never monotonous like so many other boot camps Ive been to. Its absolutely my favorite way to end the day.
I love this gym and try to make it a part of my daily routine. Im not a gym person but wanted to find a convenient, fast, community focused gym where I could get back into shape with high intensity whole body workouts. Rich does a great job encouraging the class to push further while also understanding each persons own limits. I go to school part time and the staff allowed me to come 2-3 times before commiting to a monthly contract to truly understand if I wanted to make the commitment. It was an easy decision!
I love Roark. Ive been a member for about four months now, and have been incredibly happy with the improvements Ive seen in my mental and physical health. The daily workouts focus on a mix of strength and conditioning, and the instruction/motivation from the coaches (mostly Rich) is a large part of what makes the commitment and cost totally worth it. I am a former college athlete. and have found the workouts at Roark to be both motivating and extremely challenging; the highest intensity workouts I have done that mimic sports training. The sense of community in unparalleled in that the environment fosters getting to know both the coaches and other members. Cant recommend Roark enough; theres a reason Im there every morning at 6am!
Have been coming to Roark since they opened this location 2 months ago. Amazing life-changing experience so far. Coach Rich is the best.
Im about 3.5 months into starting at Roark and loving it. The instructions level, attention to form detail, and workout tailoring when you need it (if you have an injury or are having trouble with something) are all excellent. My fitness has level has increased dramatically and my body, mind and energy level are all feeling great. I cant recommend this place highly enough. If youre worried about getting hurt at crossfit but want something less ridiculous than a lot of the bootcamps, Roark is for you.
Excellent professionals, great infrastructure, location equipped with the best equipment.Super recommend
Love this gym and Im very picky about my workouts.I work out probably 6x a week that comprise of weights and cardio but Im also so busy at work (arent we all?) that I need to be incredibly efficient with my work outs.My workouts used to comprise of my own gym visits and 2-3x a week Barrys Soma with Gabby and Tommy. I love Barrys in terms of the intensity and the amount of calories you burn in that time frame but I did not feel that Barrys allowed me to build strength and size (as a guy)Roark is a completely different kind of work out. It is NOT crossfit (I did this in the past and got injured) but it isnt Barrys either. It is a nice middle ground. It is a very friendly work out for both male and female and adjustable for the type of body youre looking to achieve. The work outs are simple but impactful enough for all experiences (beginners to advance)Rich is very informative and describes all the movements in great detail. The class sizes are manageable and you do not feel crowded or lost.Cardio here is intense and compact - very efficient and I am exhausted afterwards. One con though is as a life long runner, I miss the running aspect so I use my weekends to go for long runs to keep in running shape. We have been adding runs into our work outs though! The community is great - made many friends in the class - Some love the work out so much they travel from AFAR to come !!!Happy to answer any questions if youre debating - stop in and try out a class, we are all welcoming (not intimidating at all like some crossfit gyms
Me: 31 year old woman. I like working out but Ive always struggled with my weight and my confidence. I spend a lot of my life feeling like Im not good enough to be somewhere. When friends are going for a run or a bike ride or rock climbing or even a hike, I often come up with an excuse not to go because Im so afraid I wont be able to keep up. Ive been going to Roark gyms for about 2 months now.1. Youll fit in, I promise: I always feel like I belong at Roark Gyms. Which is surprising, as it looks like a total meat-head-Do-You-Even-Lift-Bro environment from the outside. But, I promise! Its not! Its friendly to women, gender non-binary and LGBTQ+ folks, people with fat bodies and basically anyone who might look at a structure of free weights and kettle bells and say to themselves, thats not a good place for me. Rich, the main coach, creates a really positive, friendly atmosphere. I know almost all of the regulars names by now, and they know mine. Were always high-giving each other and pushing each other to be our best. I have never seen a single person pass any negative judgement toward someone elses fitness goals or level. Not a single eye roll, not a single knowing glance to a friend. Its all positive, all the time. Its also consistently the same people in class, so it feels like a safe group. I didnt play sports in school, but its how I imagine a conditioning session would be with a team. Also, this is weird but I really like itโthere arent any mirrors in the gym. You cant spend the whole time comparing your body to other peoples or watching that one woman with the perfect butt take selfies in the mirror. You can just focus on the work out.2. Personalized feedback: The classes are small and Rich teaches almost every class. He gets to know your strengths, weaknesses and goals quickly so you have a lot of personalized attention, corrections and encouragement. You never feel like youre just a number, or like you dont know whats going on. Rich is always 100% available for any question (or to show me how to do a Turkish Get up for the 10th time) and watches out for your form to make sure youre doing everything safely.3. A good foundation for everything: Though the Garage full of free weights look might feel more intimidating than a soul cycle studio or even a Barrys Bootcamp, its actually a way better set up for the rest of your life. I wont be going to this gym forever (Someday Ill move or something) but I like knowing that Im learning more about the foundations of functional movement and exercise with every class. After training here, Ill feel comfortable walking into any weight room by myself and working out without any instruction. These work outs arent niche or specialized or require exotic equipment.4. Dont think, just show up: One of my favorite things about the gym is that you dont have to think, you just have to show up. They run on a C-L-U schedule (conditioning day, followed by lower body day, followed by upper body day and then repeat) so youre always getting a good mix of work outs. The entire work out is laid out for you when you come in. Its like having a personal trainer, but with a bunch of other cool folks and for a lot less money. Almost all of the movements we do are pretty straight-forward, and every single one is modeled and taught before every class. Whether its a technical 3-part movement like a Headcutter or something youve probably done a million times: like a squat. You never have to worry about not knowing what to do.5. Dont worry too much about the name: If you werent aware: Roark Gyms is named after Howard Roark, the protagonist in Ayn Rands The Fountainhead, her treatise to her philosophy of Objectivism. Im a Quaker and a socialist. There is zero overlap between my ideals and Ayn Rands. I think Howard Roark represents many of the worst parts of humankind. It took me a bit to get over it. But, Im glad I did. We dont talk about politics at the gym ever, so dont let it scare you off!
Nice workout! Thanks Richard!
