Signed up with Crunch right before the second lockdown (November) and cant believe how lucky I got with my new gym. I typically focus on weight and some cardio and this gym really has it all. Deceptively large (at least looking in from the street), having 3 levels with lots of equipment makes getting an on a machine very easy.On top of that, the staff is AMAZING. Someone is always cleaning in there (and Ive seen those pros work very hard to keep the experience safe for everyone every single time Ive been there) and they leave plenty of sprays/paper towels to take care of machines yourself after you are done. On top of that, the staff at the front and Jade (the GM) are phenomenal to talk to and really care about their members. If youre considering getting back into the gym now that things are opening back up, please give these guys a shot. Theyre working overtime to make this gym awesome and youll look forward to going to the gym every time like I do.

Don’t join this gym. When they reopened in September they sent and email on Friday and charged the monthly fee everyone the following Monday. Not giving enough time to cancel the membership or ask if one felt comfortable going back to the gym. When I called to cancelled they said that they were busy and I should call back in a week. They refuse to refund the monthly fee. Additionally they charge me the annual fee even though I was only a member for 2 months before the pandemic started. Terrible customer service.

Nice workout place clean friendly and nice location, parking is challenging but overall great atmosphere, weekdays around 5 to 7 really pack, which is normal for every gym in the city

After signing up in February 2020, Covid immediately shuts down the gym operations. Luckily Crunch paused membership. Fast forward 8 months and Crunch is threatening to send its members to collections for late fees. They are calling their members about late payments but never once called to share they reopened. Everyone is struggling here, have some compassion instead of rude threats to your members.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS CRUNCH. I had the most terrible experience with them. The general manager Rob (George OConnor) totally decieved me and told me one price and charged another one after getting my card information. I have been requesting for a cancelation for 2 weeks and have been ignored by him and cruchms email, which is in the contract. I went there twice in person to check on my cancelation and he was rude and said the membership was canceled but declined to formalize that via email. Still no money back. Terrible customer experience and lack of professionalism from Rob.

Very happy to have Crunch up and running again, and for the most part theyve followed through on the safety precautions they advertise on their website, but implementation isnt great at times... specifically wearing masks properly.I get it, you cant control everyones actions, it does get hard to breathe with a mask fully on when working out (dont I know it), and its our individual responsibilities to adhere to precautions as well as remind fellow gymers to do so (which I do try to do)....but its not very reassuring when I mention to the manager that this is whats happening and his response is: *shrug* yea, we cant control what everyone does, just mention it to them when you see it happen.Seems like they could be more proactive about promoting and encouraging safe practices. This said as someone who works in the medical field, has taken care of hospitalized covid patients in the past, and also wants businesses to be open and thrive again.

Signed up for a membership and was promised if I cancelled within the first 5 days, I would get a full refund. I proceeded to cancel after day 3 and was assured I would get my refund within 7-10 business days. It is now business day 14 and all Ive gotten from the Operations Manager is that the approval process for cancellations takes a bit of time. Are you serious? This gym organization is a joke. Make sure when you cancel your membership that it actually goes through before they scam you.

If crunch has incorrectly billed you, you should dispute the charge with your credit card company or bank.

This gym, once a charming but relatively less equipped gym called Gorilla sports, has evolved a ton over the years. It seems that they focus more on corporate expansion due to the Crunch higher-ups than pleasing the regular gym attendees.I have been coming to crunch on chestnut upwards of 10 years, and recently, there has been a giant influx of new staff.Much standard equipment was replaced with giant racks of money-making zumba type accessories.Speed bag is now gone, and half of the crash pads are gone. The reason for which was never explained.Recently, after having not been in for a while, I was looked at and treated like some criminal who was trying to rob the gym.The vibe is pretty intensely corporate nowadays. If you are looking for somewhere with 100% friendly staff that stay around for more than a few months, I would suggest finding somewhere else or working out at home.A gym should focus on its attendees, not the trends of the corporate mega-wave.I am going to keep beating their bags up, but it would have been nice if they had kept some of the actually important gear around and treated long time members with respect. Not to mention I was charged for a year that I had cancelled and was offered a few sessions which is something I am neither interested nor is it a fair trade for the massive amount of money that was slowly charged from my bank account after I had cancelled and been living in a different state.Crunch is getting too corporate, hopefully they realize it before it is too late.

Vaughn is the best manager of any Crunch Ive visited in the city. Hes so welcoming (greeting everyone by name), knowledgeable, and an incredible steward of Crunch. They are incredibly lucky to have him. Every visit a pleasure! because of him!!

A lot of classes. Good equipment. Yes it is crowded during peak hours and its not the largest gym. But it is San Francisco and thats how it is at most gyms. They are located by my work which is perfect for me.

Great gym! I saw a few pretentious reviews...don’t buy them! Whiners. Equipment, weights, and accessory tools are in great shape. Staff and management are always helpful and available. They have earned my business!

Small but local. Music is usually playing too loud. There is a revolving door of trainers you see for a month at a time. Then, a new one who is even more cocky than the last rolls in. The people at the front desk are usually friendly. Only one squat rack which is an issue when people decide its a good idea to do bicep curls there.

The gym is fine but management lacks integrity. I signed up because I was told I could freeze my membership for a month here and there due to travel. Three months later, after getting blown off again and again, I am still fighting to have this freeze applied.

Its not the best in terms of facilities but the people are very nice and helpful. I always wish for more air circulation and more space. The spinning room overheats quickly and many of the group classes are crowded too. I highly recommend the Monday night spinning class and the Tuesday Weigh Hard Cardio.Week nights are usually empty starting at 9PM. Im guessing you can find my fellow marina-mates out on the town.

The gym is not bad but the management is rude and does not seem to care much about the gym members. I do not mind paying for an expensive membership as long as I get something in return; unluckily, all I got in return at Crunch was attitude and rudeness. Ill take my business somewhere else.

Sort of a tired, 80s vibe, classroom upstairs is often sweaty and humid but decent selection of classes. Locker room (at least Ladies- didnt check the other) has been redone, so its a bit nicer than the one on Polk.

This is my regular gym, so obviously I like it, but I mostly chose it for its convenient location rather than any particular feature.Plusses:- Ive rarely had to wait for a machine despite it being a smaller place (two stories but really only one floor of cardio and weights with space up top for classes)- Some of the treadmills have TV screens so its a helpful distraction from the fact that youre running :)- Ive done decent spinning classes here - blacklight is fun- They have beverages and power bar type things for sale - I dont get the bars clearly but its nice to be able to grab a vitamin water before leaving- They have a good magazine selection of mostly picture-based magazines perfect for bouncing on a treadmill :)Minuses:- The trainers are really aggressive about trying to get you to sign up for personal training. I feel awkward being rude so Ive ended up having several free fitness assessments done, which is really just telling you what number and type of personal training classes you need.- Classes can be intimidating - everyone seems to know what to do (in custom ones like Chisel) and theyre always nearly full.

Living in the marina, this is probably my least favorite location out of the three(chestnut, union and polk). mainly because it is tiny and offers less equipment than the others. the small size tends to make it overcrowded.

I go to the Chestnut Street Crunch Fitness a couple times a week, usually around 6AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. Every now and then Ill go when the place opens on a Saturday or Sunday. I think its a very solid neighborhood gym. You could do a lot worse. Ive been a happy customer for more than a year now (as of August 2013) and I plan to stick with the place. At first I was worried this gym would be too hip for me or too much of a scene. After all, it is in the Marina. However, at 6AM no one seems to pay much attention to anyone else. The majority of the Lululemon clad women are busy at work on the Stairmasters, Precor machines, Treadmills, and to a lesser extent with personal trainers or lifting weights. The majority of the college t-shirt clad men are busy at work on the free weights or weight machines, and to a lesser extent on the cardio equipment. Yes, the crowd here is on the younger side -- Id guess the median age to be about 32 -- so if youre 50 youll be significantly older than average, but when I go its business time with almost no chit chat. The free weights are what Im most interested in, and Id call the selection here OK, but far from great. Its pretty solid for upper body workouts. There are four standalone benches, two bench presses, one incline press, and a Smith Machine, which people frequently use for bench pressing. Plus, if youre into machines, there are a couple of cable machines and others for upper body work. The free weight selection is worse for lower body workouts. There is only one power rack, for example, so if someone else is using it to get their squats in, youre out of luck. There is only one relatively small area in which you can do Olympic lifts, the selection of bumper plates is pretty thin, and people doing TRX or working with trainers often use up some of the space you could do Olympic lifts in.I like the trainers and the desk staff. Management keeps the place clean and well lighted. All in all, its a very solid community gym.
