Anthony was an absolute pro! I came in with Covid hair (18 months uncut), showed him a basic photo, and came out looking like Robert Redford. Ok maybe the RR analogy is a stretch, but thats not Anthonys fault. The point is, for an hour or so, I felt like Robert Redford must feel every day. Thanks Anthony! Will definitely be back when I start looking feral again.

What a badass visit I had. Daniel was my stylist. He was warm, welcoming, and felt like a longtime friend. He was invested in fun conversation while he hacked away at my long-overgrown undercut into a flawless, easy-to-manage fauxhawk. Then, he took me back to the wash area for a deep-conditioning service, and that was equally relaxing.Well worth the time and money. Daniels the one to request for sure!

I rarely leave reviews, but i believe in giving praise where praise is due.I booked my first beard appointment with Sage. She actually listened to what I wanted (unlike the other highly rated barber shop I normally go to), but she also did my neck line (front + back), my eye brows and around my ears. She basically went the extra mile and I’ll be back for it.

This is a great salon, not the priciest and one of the oldest in SF. The owner regularly switches at installations inside so every haircut feels like youre at a new place. The hairdressers are very friendly and accommodating too. Shoot out to Stephanie, shes the best.

Completely disorganized. Even if you have an appointment, still bring a looooot of time because they run behind a lot, and seem to prefer making breaks over helping their customers get their hair cuts in a way that does not disrupt their day.

At the establishments you will discover great professional stylists, contemporary affordable cuts, and most importantly good people. Don’t hesitate, they welcome walk-ins, but it’s easier to make an appointment through the site or app.

My bad for the late review, but Steve knows about the life changing decision(s) I am facing atm.So, unfortunately I am currently shedding my beloved hair... I grew out my hair uncomfortably long so I could get styled by the best (according to reviews) barber/ salon in the city. Thought I wouldnt risk my hair for what could potentially be my last haircut. BEST decision going to Public. Not only did the secretary schedule me in at the last minute, but I was scheduled in with the owner of the establishment! Thank you for that plug btw. I go in and right off the bat, I loved the classic, No worries, I got your back vibe. Steve was incredible. I gave him a blank canvas with my hair and he gave me a new style that I am in love with. He worked with what I had, which wasnt much imo, and didnt even flinch. If he did, Steve hid it well with a confidence you wish all your barbers had. I happened to get extra lucky that day, though. As he was telling me about a positive experience involving one of his clients hair transplants experience, the client with the transplant just so happened to walk in! The transplant clinic is in India so I have to save up a bit but what a lucky day.Anyway, great experience, highly recommend, try them out! You are in great hands. I have had my hair done a many times with Sage and have been blown away by her ability to transform my hair ideas into reality. She listens to what I want carefully. And also has a keen awareness of what styles and colors look good on people. I always feel beautiful when I leave there. The last time I went to Public I was living out of the area and had flown back and booked a color correction on my hair . When I arrived I was greeted with a friendly feel. I had dried, damaged, bleached hair. When I left I had multi level blonde hair that looked 110% better. The salon is clean and comfortable. I always have a good experience there and Always plan a hair appt when I visit.

Ive been growing my hair out for a couple years in order to donate it, but needed to find a new stylist since I didnt have one in SF. I wasnt sure what to expect from Public Barber, but had read good things about Chauntae and curly hair (Im a little cautious since curly hair has proven to be a challenge to many stylists).Not only did Chauntae provide me with a great haircut and overall experience, she was excited by the challenge and made me feel confident in the drastic change (for me). She talked through my ideas and what would work best with my hair to give me the fabulous haircut that Ive been seeking, but always too scared to try. She even gave me tips and tricks on styling and maintaining my new style.Its been 2 weeks since I donated 20 inches and people are still complimenting my haircut and say its the look I was always meant to have.

I’ve been seeing Sage for about 5 years now and I trust no one else with my hair but her. She does an amazing job of explaining options and also the reasoning behind her cut recommendations. I’ve tried many new hair styles with her and have always left loving my hair and feeling like there were zero surprises or miscommunications. My husband has also gone here a few times and seen Sage as well as other stylists. He also has always had a positive experience. To top it all off, all of the Kevin Murphy products smell so dreamy and I enjoy getting a beer with cut (at least in non Covid-times). I absolutely love this place!! Im new to the area and havent had my hair cut for a few months. I was unsure about the place because of the price being a bit more high end than what Im used to ($55 for a short hair cut, whereas Im used to paying $35 including tip), but I can see why its that price now; you get the quality of experience.Daniel was amazing. Not only did he give me a great style going off a single picture I had of an earlier hair cut, he was great to talk to, I was comfortable with him, and he was so sweet! I didnt feel awkward at all. Usually with hair stylists Im just like please stop talking to me but Daniel was genuinely a delight and made the space super friendly.After cutting my hair and showing me how it looked, he took me back for a wash and then dried and styled my hair with one of the salons products. I did not purchase the product because I dont really use hair product, but its very nice, smells wonderful, and feels great in keeping my hair soft but held.The place itself is so cute. The staff were all super nice, everything was clean and tidy, they had all their covid measurements in place. Its sad theyre going to close for the new Covid Lockdown but I was super lucky to get in on one of the last days.Thanks so much for everything!!!

I started going to Public Barber Salon on a recommendation from a friend about a year ago. Sage, who cuts my hair, knows exactly how I like it cut after learning early on with me, She never fails to give me a wonderful haircut, is engaging and fun to go see. The Salon is currently doing haircuts IN the store with Covid restrictions and although I cut my own hair once during Covid, having a pro like Sage cut it is no substitute. Id recommend the salon and the various hair stylists to anyone looking for a great cut, reasonable prices, and a fun atmosphere.Sage knows how I like my hair cut but every time asks if Id like it the same way. She doesnt assume. Since its been a good 10 weeks since I last was able to get my hair cut, today it felt shorter than usual, but it likely is not. I like how it grows in too so Sage has learned how it grows in when I see her and cuts accordingly,

He fades me up clean and is always even.He’s a great guy and always has good conversation. He even give you Q-tips when you leave which is perfect for a cut and then hit the city! This has been my go to barber shop since its opening. Every single hairstylist here knows their craft like the back of their hands. I always walk away feeling so fresh and so clean. Its centrally located in the heart of the city on the edge of the Tenderloin near Union Square. Very easy to get to on public transportation and walking distance from some of the best dining establishments, art galleries and shopping establishments. My favorite perk: The beer they comp you while you wait.😉

Love this place. Im generally like a deer in the headlights when I get my hair cut. I dont really know what I want when I go in, but the employees here work with the vague descriptions I have. They meet your level of engagement, so if you feel like having a conversation then go for it. Otherwise, its just a nice, refreshing haircut.Theyre good at mens haircuts, and have good taste so thats what keeps me coming back.

Terrific stylists with terrific attitudes. Ive been coming here for years now. Everyone listens to you carefully to make sure youre getting exactly what you want. And when they feel something may not look so great on you, they make sure to voice it with courtesy and recommendations that will be in line with what youre looking for. My favorites: Kristen, Mari, Melissa, Chauntae, and Samantha --- though everyone is great.

Came here as i needed the old lettuce trimmed whilst on holiday. Booked over the phone and came in. Explained what I wanted my sahlard to look like and next moment the clippers were out and she was going hard. Quite a lot of the salad was gone but in the end not a bad trim.

I love this place. My friend told me about Public Barber and havent gone anywhere else since. Me, my partner and our two friends all go here. Its great, you make a reservation online and get a text message to confirm. Its that simple. They carry Bumble and Bumble products which are amazing, and everyone there really seems to know the product. All the stylists are great but Sage, Marina and Daniel are my favorites. They know exactly what they are doing and listen to what you want. But they also are not afraid to tell you if its not the best idea.I will continue to go here and recommend it to everyone!

Great place to get a cut in the city for both women and men. What really sets this place apart from others is that everyone is actually good at what they do. Imagine, a place that cuts hair and they do it well, consistently. I know, its mind blowing, but they exist. Its here, its Public.Btw ... they treated my little puppy Westbrook very well. Showered him with hugs and kisses and a little bowl of water, so triple props to everyone here!

But, Alicia was confident in giving directions and suggestions.Although I was scared to leave my curls, they did an amazing job! Cant speak for the quality of the haircuts, but the booking process was bad: thought I arranged an appointment, then found out when I showed up they they didnt have it. On the second appointment I just left when they hadnt gotten to me 15 minutes after the appointment time. Please do better!
