Lynne is amazing. Owner is extremely rude. Completely empty shop and made me lock up my bike outside. Its SF, Bikes get stolen all the time. The least you can do is use your empty shop to store my bike for 20 minutes while I get my hair cut
Glad to see Joes survived the pandemic. Always a trusty place to get a good old fashioned barber haircut. Hope to see more barbers return, so weight time is a little long now until they do.
Joes great everyone was really cool. Def check it out. But be sure to put ur name on the waitlist online or schedule an appointment.
Made me feel welcomed and comfortable. Everyone was extremely friendly and they knew how and what i wanted to do with my hair better then what i wanted myself. Will definitely be going there from now on!
The staff is incredibly friendly in the haircuts are exceptional! You always understand what I want and always do it extremely well.
Bad service (they randomly take you off their waitlist without notifying you at all), ok-ish hair cuts and overpriced. Better (and plenty) options in the area.
Convenient great system. Haircuts are hot and miss for me at least
Great place to get a solid haircut in a no-frills atmosphere. Walk ins only, except the owner, Joe, who can be booked online.
If you want to get a really good haircut and want to discuss whats going on in the neighborhood, this is your place. Joe is a fixture of San Franciscos leather and LGBT community. Joe was a former IML and Eagle Scout and takes the same drive in running a great barber shop. The shop takes all Covid precautions seriously.
Quick and friendly staff. Ive been here several times during pandemic and Ive been impressed by how safe it feels.
Good spot, great service. Their price is very reasonable for SF, too.
Joes Barbershop is fantastic because in the Covid-19 pandemic, they follow all the protocols to keep their customers healthy with outdoor service. I had not had a haircut since February and Joe gave me great cut precisely the way I wanted it at a very reasonable price. I will definitely be back in five weeks.
Great local spot for a haircut
Joe did a great job with my ridiculously long quarantine hair. He’s also a very nice guy. Glad they are open again and survived the months of closure.
Convenient, fast and friendly. Sign up on the list!
Good haircuts, good people
Great to see Joe and the shop open! Outstanding haircut as always!
I got a haircut by Chelsie at Joes barber. This is literally the worst haircut I ever had in my entire life! She really doesnt know how to cut hair. Really bad fade, the lengths on the top are not equal, and most of all... this is not the haircut I asked!! She also charged me 45$ dollar for that! It was a waste of my money and my time. If you want a good laugh check out the final haircut attached.
I talked to Chelsie yesterday and explained that I was just in remission from cancer and wanted a style that would work with my fine hair. She walked me through options and today gave me my first haircut since chemo. She knows her business. I am over the top to have found her. She will guide you with questions and make some recommendations to give you a RAD hair style. Definitely going back to Chelsie!
Good work from the stylists, they seemed quite careful about health precautions. Wait list website is handy but I wouldnt trust the stated wait time too much (I was told 7 and I waited about 20).
Glad its open! Such a wonderful place to get a haircut. Easy to find. Book online.
Great set up outside. Chelsea did a great job. I will go back
Stellar cut for a treasonable price
SFs best barbershop is back and open for COVID-safe haircuts. Happy to report that theyre taking precautions seriously and I no longer look like Im living through a pandemic.
My favorite barber shop
Didnt have to wait. Felt safe. Staff was nice.
Joe is an exceptionally talented barber and the quality has been consistent every time Ive been there. But with that said, I had a visit with him that was going smoothly just like any average cut at a barber, then he abruptly became extremely rude for no apparent reason. Whatever, plenty of other good barbers in SF.
Great..Really enjoyed it. Great cut and call when appointment was ready.
Chelsea is my favorite barber
Great place for a quik cut
John John John John.I am 31 years old. I have had my haircut by hundreds of barbers over my lifetime. The best barber I have ever experienced in my life is John who works out of Joe’s Barbershop in SF.He is meticulous. He is focused. He treats what he does as the important craft it is. Fantastic communicator with an eye for exquisite detail. The day I leave SF, what I will the most is not being able to get my hair cut by John.
Went based on a local recommendation, got Joe himself. In no time at all I had a beautiful buzz and fade, and turned my beard into something nice for my vacation. It even got compliments that week. (The beard, not me). He was very friendly with no attitude.
Great local barber shop. They take call-in and on-line appointments, as well as walk-ins. Just use their terminal to look at the line-up ahead of you, enter your name and phone number and they will call/text you when you’re up. There is ample seating for those who need to sit and wait and during the weekends there are plenty of barbers, so they can run through a large number of people pretty quickly.
I have been going to Joes on and off since I moved to SF. One haircut I received was OK with some areas a little longer than others. I told Joe about it and he insisted on giving me a full refund for the haircut, as well as offering to come in for another cut for free. All of my other cuts have been really great, and the service has been incredible. I was blown away by the professionalism Joe provided. Im happy to offer 5 stars and look forward to my next cut coming up soon.
Bad experience - wait time was 20 minutes at booking, after 30 minutes of waiting nothing changed and suddenly it said to wait another 60 minutes and only one barber was left.Fox you waiting system - won’t return.
The barbers are all very personable, professional, and a good chat (although sometimes I just nap). The online reservation system is so so when it comes to estimating wait times, but the heads up text message is useful and overall does help with planning your day. I recommend selecting a barber and sticking with them. Ive tried several and been happy each time, but now the one Im loyal to keeps notes on how to cut my hair, which is helpful. The hours are kinda limiting on the weekend and weekday evenings, and its also tough that you cant reserve in advance of the day of, and theres also no parking... But!! If you live within walking distance, or just take the nearby Muni, you cant go wrong for this reasonably priced, quality haircut.
The longest I have waited for an walk in was 25 minutes does not matter how busy they are. I havent tried but seems like you can put your name in the waitlist through the website. Great service (best I found in the bay area). Any barber is super friendly and skilled (I tried many over the years) but looks like Joe is a superstar (always have 10 people on the waitlist waiting for him). I live in the East Bay and it is worth my drive to SF just to get a haircut
Hit or miss. I expected better given the price. Sometimes hairdressers would use thinning scissors even when I explicitly asked not to at the beginning.
Classic barbershop with fantastic stylists - you can also join the waitlist ahead of time online and drop in when its close to your time! Basic haircut for a man will run you about $35.
Ive been getting my haircut here for about a year now great customer service, a relaxed & very well-kept atmosphere and efficient cut times all add up to a series of positive experiences. Ive never had trouble getting an appointment or had to wait for a long time when I get there for an appointment. The prices are very reasonable and the barbers know how to cut well. Theyll even clean your beard/sideburns with a straightedge. Definitely worth checking out!
Great barbershop! $30 for a haircut in SF is a steal. Plus the barbers here are super talented! My barber (who shall remain unnamed) is the best!! They have easy wait-list system and you can also walk in if you need to.
Andy is the best! She takes great care of me there. In fact, I cant say enough about Joe and the entire staff. Since moving to SF in April 2013 they have become like family in there. I know almost all of them and its a high point in my day going in there and seeing everyone. Plus a fantastic haircut and beard trim.ANDY HAS SOME A++++ BEARD SKILLS!
Ive been going here for about five years and wouldnt go anywhere else! Angel, who does my hair is just amazing, always has a smile, always gets my hair perfect. Love it!
First of all, skip the beauty shop; barber shops offer a better value without all the fuss & Joes takes that to a new level. Joe trains all of his barbers so you can just walk in & the next available barber wont be a terribly long wait but will always be worth it. As for me, its Lou who Im thankful to have found (tho Joe was pretty damn great).
Love Joe’s Barbershop! It’s a great place for a last-minute cute haircut without breaking the bank. Pro tip: join the waitlist online 30 mins before you go to skip the wait on busy days! A Castro classic.
Great vibe, good conversation, and clean. Issue is quality of haircut - asked for a standard 5 on the sides and tapper up to a scissors trim on top. Instead got the in-style cut of no tapering on one side. I wish I was cool enough to pull this off, but Im not. Additionally, its not what I asked for as my cut.
The place is awesome. Super fast, easy to park and top notch service! It was my first time there today and I’m definitely coming back! Highly recommended!
Ive had two haircuts here, one in 2011 and one now in 2012. Its not just a barber shop. Ive had two different barbers (not Joe) and theyve both done a fantastic job with an extra attention to detail you would expect from a salon, but at a decent barber shop price. Nice beard trim as well. I always look my best when coming from this shop. I will visit this shop every time I come to visit San Francisco (I live on the East Coast).
Amazing place! With their new online appointment system way more efficient. Staff always friendly and place is clean. Ever time I come here I leave feeling brand spanking new. Dont go anywhere else in the city.
Have been requesting Lynne for my monthly haircut - she’s great & very consistent. The prices at Joe’s are a solid value & the online waitlist system is super convenient.
Absolutely love Joes. I live right around the corner and having been going regularly for the past 2.5+ years.Their online waitlist is incredibly convenient, as I end up spending virtually no time wasted waiting. I dont have a regular barber because my usual haircut is fairly straightforward and everyone Ive had there has just been incredibly kind and professional. I wont go anywhere else.
Joes Barbershop is reminiscent of an old-fashioned barbershop, updated with an industrial edge. There are about 10-15 barbers, so walk-ins are available, with a short wait, or you can sign up to receive a text when a barber is available. Several of the barbers, including Joe, the owner, can be booked online (or by phone call) for an appointment.Joe, the owner, has cut my hair for years, but Ive also booked Basil when Joe is not available. From what I can tell, every barber is quite good in the shop. So, if you need a haircut when youre in San Francisco, Joes Barbershop is a great place to go!
Ive been going to Joes for 5+ years now. I never even bother booking a specific barber because the average quality of each barber has always been that good. Its not the least expensive haircut youre going to have, but Im never worrying about my hair.
Have gotten great back to back hair cuts here and has an ok price point (40). Good energy and great wait-list system online that avoids frustration of sitting in the shop not knowing when you could be called.
Joes is excellent and easy to use. You can add yourself to the queue online with ease. I always choose Any Barber and have yet to have the same one twice in a year, but all of the barbers have been fantastic
Love this place it’s my 3rd or 4th time coming over tried 3 different barbers all of them are 100% great easy going and fun but that’s not what I came forWhat I really care is the end result and is just great
My barbers are Jerry and Ernesto (they speak Spanish) and I recommend both for long hair men.
Reliable stop for a haircut. Use the online wait-list to reduce your time in the shop. Can recommend Mike, Ernesto, Lou, and Basil for consistent simple conservative mens cuts.
Awesome place! Awesome barbers that actually know what their doing. Great place! Recommend to anyone thats in S.F. that needs a fade or cut.
I had been having a great cut here. Alicia cut my hair with great precision and it looked fine, but at the very end I asked if she could taper my hair sliiiiiightly more than she had, which had been about a half inch, and instead of doing that she tapered my hair the next length down and did it to half of the back of my head! I only get the bottom half inch or so tapered and she brought it up to like 3 inches! It looks terrible and I have a date in 4 days!! She was very nice about it and didnt charge me for the cut but I am so dissatisfied I had to write this review :(
Warning: I got a horrible haircut from Zach. He used a 2 on my sides and I still had patched of long hair around my ears when I checked later on. Also, he didn’t even cut any hair on top after I told him twice that I wanted a half inch taken off. What did I pay for?? This is strike me for this place. I won’t be back.
Consistently good haircut, only place I go in town.
Joe and his whole crew are amazing! This is my haircut spot in SF and I tried quite a few before finding Joe. Super friendly staff, cool decor, and a no nonsense place. No one seems to wait too long thanks to their awesome online wait list. Convenient location right by Muni.
Recommended Barber: ErnestoWhy: the nicest and agreeable barber I’ve ever met. Been in the business for 10 years I believe. He’s cut my hair in various styles over the year and they’ve all been winners. I trust his judgement immensely. The Shop: No frills and not “hipster sheik” but they get the job done. All kinds of folk come here to get an affordable haircut. And let’s face it, most men get the same clone-style “High N’ Tight” anyway and they’ve mastered the science behind the pseudo-butch/Masc look.I’ve never actually had a conversation with the owner, Joe, but he is charming to smile at when you first come in since his area is the first one in the front. I’ve heard other stories about their experience with Joe and they’ve all been positive. He keeps a shop running with the basic essentials and that’s all you should really need in a barbershop.Other shops want to give you beer for “free” even though they charge a premium for the same quality cut you can get at Joe’s Barbershop. Be honest with yourselves, you’re actually paying for mediocre beer with that haircut. You could have just gone to Joe’s and then patronize the neighborhood bars like Pilsner Inn (play some pool) or Churchill for a post-buzz relaxation Whiskey. In summary, a fine place to get a fine haircut with fine gentlemen. Thanks Ernesto!
Had a nice haircut for a decent price here. The online waitlist is very convenient. The staff is friendly. Will come back for sure
Love the online scheduling, all the barbers are friendly and experienced.
Apparently they have an arbitrary wait-list system. I waited 23 minutes only to find myself bumped off the wait-list without explanation. The front desk was very friendly and apologetic but being my first time there I felt awkward about trying to find out why I got bumped from the wait-list in front of everyone. I saw Jerry looking at his phone for a long time and seemingly being selective so made me feel that if you dont look a certain way, hell cross your name off the list. Left and went to a neighborhood barber. Thats my lesson for trying something new.
Great crew, and a good online wait-list system.
Reserve a spot online and then hang out within a 15 min jaunt to Joes. Then get a great cut at a reasonable price. Its simple really.
Really varies on the barber you get. When its busy they just rush through the cut and try to get you out the door ASAP rather than making sure it looks good. The wait can also be over an hour long because its in a good location.Id go elsewhere unless you enter on a slow day.
Great barbershop - especially for fades and buzzcuts. You can reserve a space online as well as choose a particular barber so no need to wait. If you dont reserve a time the wait is usually under an hour. Also has a great neighborhood feel for Castro. I recommend John on Thursday, friday, and Sunday.
Visiting from Philly and need a haircut desperately. Walked right in. Got Alicia - she was amazing. Im normally really scared to get my haircut in places Im unfamiliar with...but she did a great job and saved me from looking like a Sasquatch for the rest of my trip! 👍🏾
I was in town for a wedding this Saturday. Busy with all the tasks of being the best man I forgot to get my hair cut before I got into the city. Every place I called charged me an additional fee for not having an appointment. Fortunately I was introduced to Joes barbershop by a local. Called they got me in with no extra fees and in was an amazingly inviting experience. I WILL BE BACK HERE EVERY TIME I COME BACK.Thanks Hassani
Great kids cuts. Friendly staff.
Always great to get an amazing cut. Angel was dope if you need a tight fade. See you next time in town. Thanks guys!!
Be warned....a good haircut is hit or miss at Joes. This time was a big miss, and I wont be going back. Angel did such a horrible job, that I not only asked for my money back (never done that before...it was THAT bad). I had to go to another salon so the could attempt to fix it, they couldnt. Thanks Angel!
Had requested Andy, when I was the next one in the wait list except for someone who hadnt specified hairdresser she calls that guy. After she is done she goes on a break for 10 minutes. Since I had requested her I was blocked from getting my hair cut by someone else. When she comes back she is using her phone and talking to colleges. Then she goes out again for 5 minutes and comes back with a friend that she starts cutting. I had been waiting for about an hour at this point. Got the notification that she had called my name when I was on the bus going back home.
It’s been 3 years almost since I moved to SF, the first few hair cuts were at terrible overpriced places 💈. I’m glad I found Joe’s, this place is great! Ask for Angel, he is fantastic.
Ive been here for only two times and Im very happy with the level of service and attention Ive received. They have an online wait-list on their website where you can see the average wait and add your name.
Ask for Angel, hes super personable and does a great job on my hair every time
Best in town, love the on line wait list sign up. Always efficient and get just what I want no matter who I get.
Great group of guys and gals to cut your hair. Pro tip: use the website to get on the waitlist before you go to cut down your wait time. Walkins are accepted.
Great West Coast style haircuts!
Super friendly staff (except for the front desk girl) definitely recommend!! I believe my guy was Ernest - fantastic high fade!
Great barber shop...right on Market in the Castro. My barber is Andy, shes killer.
If all you need is a haircut this is the best place to go!
I’ve tried almost every barber. Love then all, Angel in particular
Horrible fade and absolutely ruined my hairline. Dont ever go to the Asian lady with the flower. I would give one star if it wasnt for Zach salvaging the damage she did.
Everyone is great here. Haircuts are perfect. No reason to spend more on a mens haircut than what Joes charges.
The barbers are flexible and willing to work with you as long as you show up on time for your haircut.
Never a bad cut. All the stylists are highly skilled. Fair prices for a great look.
Great barbers. Can be busy.
Always a top hair cut. Very nice people. Price is also totally fair for San Francisco.
Every haircut Ive ever had here has been excellent
Gina is Awesome!! Great haircuts, I never wait long, and I can use Cash, PayPal, or Venmo to pay.
Great haircut, not expensive, and really nice people. Cant go wrong!
Walked in and got exactly what I wanted without even knowing it.
Great service, great skill, will definitely go there again!
Even better since now you can book appointments online. No more waiting. Basil is the man!
