Weve been living here for about 8 months now and have found it to be a good place to live, even with some things having to be closed due to the pandemic. Maintenance requests are responded to promptly and I find the leasing/management/concierge staff to all be helpful and professional. Its not as smoke-free as the smoke-free community advertisement; however I understand that its hard to enforce on an individual basis and the staff does what they can, including installing new no-smoking signs when asked to. The dog run is also very convenient.all in all we are enjoying our living here and will look to extend our lease once its up.
Leasing office staff, Pia in particular, have been very helpful and nice. Complex seems very secure and clean. Our apartment is very nice and modern and was prepared well for us to move into.
Utilities are always astronomically high, if youre living in a 1 bedroom add an extra $200-$300 to your rent even if youre not home or use little utilities; trash, water, electric, etc. Management is always reactive vs. proactive, I get this building is an investment portfolio, but it always seems to be cost-cutting or shortcuts. As some have mentioned, security is so so, noise complaints for the same units can go months without any true action/remediation (I talked to some tenants who have complained over 5-6 times regarding noise complaints after 10 PM for repeat offenders and experienced the same situation myself). We parked our car in a safer garage 15 minutes away because of the homeless man issue and constant issue posted in the online community wall. One particular leasing team member is a high-anxiety individual who doesnt really like customer service, Ive had several instances of being gaslit during our conversations when nothing of that matter was said or my words were twisted to fit the narrative. The one saving grace is their repair team is extremely proactive & reactive and will do what they can to help out given their resources.
Just moved here from across the country, and 2 weeks before we arrived one of our massive shipments of boxes arrived earlier than expected and we were so scared they would be stolen or lost as we werent there to retrieve them. The staff was so understanding and helpful, and carried our heavy boxes into our apartment for safekeeping. That would never happen in NYC and we are so thankful!
I love SoMa Square so far. Reason for a 2/5 star review:Trying to retrieve packages from the concierge desk is a pain.Usually it takes 12+ hours after delivery to retrieve packages depending if you are willing to stay up and hassle with it. Your better off accounting for the extra day upfront.I havent seen homeless people in the complex, however have seen questionable items in and around the parking garage elevator indicating homeless have been there overnight.I have spoken to other residents who have been here longer than me, and apparently both issues are regular occurrence and have been brought up to property management with little to no change in the positive direction.I hope SoMa Square can fix the package service because I really do love a lot of things about this place!
Ive been living at SoMa Square Apartments for almost three years now and the experience has been top notch. Alisa, the building manager, should take the credit for that. Shes always on top of things, accommodating and incredibly friendly.Ive now lived in 2 different units and from cleanliness to maintenance requests, theyre on point. Having a gym, swimming pool and community room is all incredibly convenient. Also, the location couldnt be more perfect!
Here is a lengthy and honest review for those seriously considering moving here. My fiance and I have been extremely happy with our experience with SoMa Square thus far. We spent a great deal of time agonizing over our apartment choice (work commute and pet-friendly were our main concerns), and boy are we relieved with our choice. If you do not like dogs, dont live here. If youre a dog owner, you will not regret this place!First, the location is outstanding and the entire complex is a self-contained community of apartments and townhomes, built atop a 2-level parking garage with a key fob activated elevator. The complex only has two entrances (plus elevator), which require a key fob. Moving in was seamless as there are loading bays you can reserve with easy access to Hawthorn. It feels SAFE here. No, its not bustling like Castro or other older neighborhoods, but our apartment is extremely spacious and well lit, which is critical as we are working from home. We are a block north of route 80 (Oakland bridge), short walk to all BART lines, and everything in the city is a 30-40 min bus ride away with no transfers. Oracle Park, Embarcadero (bayside biking/pedestrian paths, parks, bars and cafes) are a 10-minute walk away, there are little parks and cafes everywhere if you take time to explore, and you can tell the city has spent a fortune converting this whole place from industrial drab nothingness to liveable, clean, well-maintained city blocks. If you want to live in an old Victorian in a more established place, have fun paying the same rent - if not more - and getting about half the square footage and a random absentee landlord who will probably hate you and your dog. This whole area used to be warehouses and is mostly brand new development, so its important to keep that perspective when looking at South of Market in general. The architecture has a lot more character than similar developments Ive lived in. Our unit is spacious, well-lit, and has two balconies (which I love). The floors were recently redone, the ocean breeze makes the city smell almost nonexistent, it is extremely quiet here - I sleep like a baby - and theres no unpleasantness from the community or unit itself aside from what youd expect living in any city. The staff is extremely accommodating and responsive, I see staff walking around cleaning everything constantly (SO important due to COVID), I see security folks walking around daily (they have a private security firm hired out and you are supposed to call a specific number for security issues, not just complain to the leasing office), and there has been a lot of effort to beautify the complex. I appreciate all the landscaping efforts (we are on top of a parking garage, they could have just done nothing in terms of property beautification); the astroturf is weird but this was done to save WATER, which only takes a little bit of brain power to understand why.I read many complaints on here regarding package sorting and delays in repairs. Weve been receiving packages every day right when they are supposed to get here, and since its one concierge doing the sorting for hundreds of tenants, its not reasonable to expect instantaneous sorting and if you just, you know, TALK to them and tell them the package is important, they will grab it for you; the staff is doing what they can, and I think the main problem is our instant-gratification society, not the hardworking staff that respond to our every whim. Ive not seen any rats and, compared to similar places Ive lived, this is the cleanest place Ive lived in and a lot of these negative reviews Im reading seem quite unfair and/or far removed from reality. If you are unhappy with being around dogs, then dont move into a pet-friendly community. If homeless people offend you, dont even consider moving to SF. I havent seen the supposed homeless guy living here, and I am wandering around this property multiple times a day with my dog. I dont anticipate we will be moving out anytime soon.
Decent complex for the city. Biggest problem with SoMa Square is the package service and security.Go ahead and add at least 1 extra day to your delivery date. They need to hire more package sorters or implement some kind of better system, its ridiculous how bad they are at getting packages sorted and ready for pick up.Security could use some improvements, there is a known homeless man that basically lives on the property. It has been reported to the property manager by me and other residents, however the known homeless man is still regularly seen walking the complex, sleeping and doing drugs in the parking garage and elevators.**EDIT: The review right below mine has a photo of the homeless man I am referencing LOL theres your evidence.
Its a fine place to live, except that there is a homeless man that lives in the garage and elevator. Ive brought this up to the leasing office multiple times over a period of many weeks, but they have shown zero interest in resolving the situation no matter how many emails and phone calls I have made. Its really unfortunate.
If you want your packages withheld from you for sometimes 8+ hours then this is a great place for you to live. They cannot handle the package intake and it is very obvious. They need more concierges or maybe a better system. On top of the bad news your package isnt ready the concierges are sometimes very rude to rub it in your face that much more.It is far to expensive to live at SoMa Square and not have polite well managed package service or some kind of system where the burden is never on the residents paying to live in the complex. Multiple complaints filed, and issue continues. When you run an online business on the side and constantly have goods coming and going, having to wait an additional sometimes business day to get incoming goods is a critical business problem. The fact SoMa Square cannot handle the package intake should be treated like a critical business problem which obviously is not. Management should be addressing this issue with urgency however is not! This will be the reason we do not resign our lease.
I strongly recommend not to move here.My girlfriend has lived there for almost a year and already had two bikes stolen in from of her door at daylight; with no response from management. On both occasions, weve requested the surveillance cameras to be reviewed with no feedbackIve seen homeless entering the building via the parking lot; even more worrying Ive seen them doing hard drugs on the parking lot stairs and then having around the common areas of the residence; she notified the administration and security about this and they did not take any action. So if youre looking for a place to feel safe this is not the place to go.
The place was fabulous. Unfortunately it wouldve been too complicated for me to swap me lease out and resubmit an application my move out date is was too close. So I declined
It’s great and a wonderful Apartmnt I’m very happy to live here!Thank you SoMa Square !
I strongly recommend not to move here.We lived here for a while and we dont feel safe in this complex anymore. We had multiple packages stolen from us and homeless people do easily get in (I even saw them using the hot tub).Construction has been going on for 2+ years and there is dirt and mice all across the complex.
If you work in the city and have a pet this is the place for you. You have everything walking distance, it is pet friendly and the units have a good floor plan. Also, you can rest assure that everything in your unit will be in working condition because of the Maintenance team, more specifically Ken North. He is simply the best. Understand what needs to be done pretty quickly, knows exactly what he is doing, is polity and friendly and after finish the service/repair leave your place cleaner than how was before. If this review was for Ken alone I would give 10 stars. Great professional.
Staff here is efficient and customer oriented. I have had pleasant experiences with everyone I have met or spoken with over the phone. The service team was quick to respond. The location is excellent especially if you are looking for an active night life. Ask for Alisa.... shell take care of you!
I lived in SoMa Square for just over 6 months, and absolutely loved my time there. Unfortunately I had to move for work, and the entire office (particularly Cullen) were incredibly helpful with my lease break. When we lived there, our apartment was beautiful and maintenance was super responsive to the slight issues we had. The rent was expensive, but well worth the time I saved living a short walk from work. The best part for me was the wonderful private dog park and great community of pet owners. I cant imagine a better place to live in the city if you have a dog.
I am not a resident so this review is for their leasing office. It was very easy for me to get a tour here, and the office staff was very helpful. Alisa went out of her way to draw me a map of local grocery stores and points of interest that would help me out once I moved to the city. I ended up signing a lease at another one of their properties.
The elevator in building 2 hasnt worked for MONTHS, and now theres no hot water for the next 3 days because the needs of tenants arent nearly as important as the managements weekend time. They got a fancy new door camera system to let people in that no one knows how to use or set up. If they spent half as much time fixing things that people actually use and need rather than adding fancy amenities to attract new tenants it might actually be a nice place to live. The complex is nice, but if something breaks in the building youd better get used to living with it being broken because the office couldnt care less. For the price of rent here, I expected better.-G.A
It’s a good place, I love the amenities, everything here work well!! In this moment, unfortunately, the comum área are closed because the covid19.
Ive lived here for a year and a half now and couldnt be happier!! Leasing staff is incredible, they respond quickly, actually care about tenants well being and over all happiness with where they live. The place is dog friendly which is huge when you want to live downtown. Cant beat the location and one of the few places that has a nice outdoor pool and hot tub!!
3 star rating because my packages are consistently held hostage. This is beyond frustrating for someone who travels for work or works long hours. The pick up times are posted, but when I want to pick up a package within the prescribed hours, no one is there, or security is there covering and they have no idea when the concierge will return. Other than that- older property (ie not the crisp, clean modern look of fixtures in many other comparable buildings) but great location. Rating would be higher once they get their concierge sorted out. Here’s a solution, especially given what we pay- If you can’t allow residents to pick up packages, have them sign a waiver and place them in their apartment.
I lived at SoMa Square for just over 6 months, and it was a great experience from start to finish, especially when dealing with the apartment manager and leasing staff. They were kind, accommodating, communicative, and always understanding and patient. Despite the fact that I opted to break my lease for personal reasons, they were nothing but helpful and fair. I would highly recommend SoMa Square based on the service alone, not to mention the great location and fair pricing.
My packages were “missing” twice in that mail office, even that package required my signature. The office “sign” all the packages and left it open for everyone to pick up, yes, everyone. You suppose to provide ur ID and info, so the staff member will hand you the package, but most of the time they are too busy to do that. I had seen people walking in and out at the mail office without provide any info, or they just pick up whatever package they want. Also, the last day that I check out of my room, someone unlocked my room (I checked before I left) and my gold chain and watches were missing..Beware with the security system at that building. Good luck.
Move-in was quick and easy. The location and amenities are superior. The staff is very friendly and helpful too!
The service was very good.Staff is efficient, fast and friendly
Such an awesome Apartment rental building. The leasing staff is courteous and helpful, maintenance is quick, extremely nice, and does a great job handling any issues, the units are updated, clean, and in a perfect location in SoMa. The location is great being on 3rd and Folsom. I have zero complaints. Oh, and its pet friendly. For dog owners, the complex has a dog run and plenty of astroturf areas for dogs to take care of their business. The complex has a great gym, outdoor heated pool and Jacuzzi.
Your going to be very happy at Soma Square. Location is what brought me here, but as it would turn out I was in for a lot more than just that! Nikolas M. helped me get the lease on this 1 bedroom apartment on the top floor for a great price! He went way above and beyond to make the experience as great as it could possible be. I drove from Idaho and didnt have all the energy I needed to get established right away, so they accommodated my needs, things I would have never expected: knowing that we are all human and need breaks sometimes. On the human side, they are so FRIENDLY, very welcoming and nice! Nikolas is a very easy going manager that delivers an unstressed, hospitable environment through a time that could be otherwise rough. It does take some thick skin to be in the city, glad that I get the opposite here at my new home! Such a easy-going experience, I couldnt be more grateful for the empathetic down-to-earth friendliness of it all! Doesnt hut that this place is awesome too! I am glad to call it my home and would be more than happy to call you neighbor. We are all special and have unique needs, they are more than ready to embrace and welcome you home! Thanks Soma Square staff, you made this time as best as it could be and even better than that! I only wish you the same experience in your own endeavors and hope to pay it forward well I am here, welcoming those who too can come to see this place as I have: a beautiful home! Thanks again Nikolas, you serve the residents well and make life better for use all in so doing!
I hated renting units that were managed by a company and have always sought after units that were individually managed by a single landlord. Ive always heard stories of people getting ripped off, losing their security deposit, and experiencing outrageous rent increases per year.Yesterday, I signed a lease with SOMA Square. Jessica changed my mind. She really looked out for me and I am super happy that I have someone like her on the leasing team.
Curtains in new renovated unit are not blackout and we need to replace it ourselves.
SoMa Square is an AMAZING community! I recently moved here from Florida which could have been a really stressful experience. Finding a home using only the web and user reviews to help me was terrifying to be completely honest. In the end, my move was seamless and quite painless. What made my move so seamless? Alisa Shaheen, my Leasing Consultant at SoMa Square! Alisa took the time to listen to my needs and found the perfect apartment for me (and my cat) who LOVES her view of the trees from our porch.I HIGHLY recommend SoMa Square and if any of the other properties are managed by this leasing team, Id feel comfortable signing there too. Thank you Alisa and SoMa Square for your help making my dreams of living on the west coast come true!
It was great living there! lol Just the last day I had to deal with this bold guy with glasses and the other skinny guy in the office, and they were SO clueless about what’s going on in the complex, way better the maintenance guy helped me to figure out how to get out with my moving truck, thanks!
Great place to live, especially if you have dogs.Community manager team is responsive, however we had many issues to deal with. Jose from the leasing office in particular was always very friendly and responsive. This is not mean to be a retaliatory review as I like the building and the staff - I just want to warn current and future residents so they can avoid going through a similar issues and property loss. Our $700 bicycle along with others (not sure how many) were stolen from the secure room which Equity charges $20 monthly. The rack my bike was locked to was tampered with, and several locks were cut.Equity refused to show us footage or tell us what they saw in it.Supposedly footage was provided to the police but since they never open an investigation nothing was done with it.As its expected from property managers, Equity claimed no responsibility, but then eventually conceded a small credit to offset a portion of my renters insurance deductible ($125).If you live or plan on living here and you own an expensive bicycle, I suggest you keep it in your apartment or lock it as you would on the street.Update: the elevators in building 2 break down often. Not fun if you live on the 8th floor.Update 2: At move out I was charged $120 for painting. We had patched all nail holes and cleaned walls with magic eraser before moving out, so not sure why they charged us.Update 3: Tales of homeless wondering around the complex and using the Hot tub are true. Garage elevator and stairs was often used for drug consumption.
The staff here are amazing, very friendly, and extremely welcoming to everyone. Highly recommend living here. Very nice
The gym is pretty small and they dont have towels, drinking fountain and a yoga room at the gym. Also some unit deosnt have laundry machien. other then that its not bad.
The apartment complex is garbage. The people are nice but theres always something wrong with the buildings. Elevator goes down constantly. Elevator into the garage has gone down a couple of times for weeks at a time. Security absolutely sucks and is rarely helpful. $3,300+ a month and I envy the homeless at times...Keep looking around... This place is NOT worth the month youll spend.
The location is great, the staff is nice, and its very dog friendly. However, we have been living here for over a year and everything is always under construction or not working. So the big downside is the frustration of paying for amenities you cant enjoy...
Ive really enjoyed living here at SOMA Square--you cant beat the location! The staff is really awesome and goes above and beyond to help with whatever you might need. I would definitely recommend living in this great community.
The two people in the leasing office have 0 clue what is going on at any given point and time and NO concept of california real estate (or, life on planet earth for that matter). Pretty sure they are just randomly chosen residents they pay to sit at the desk. Not great.
No move goes as smoothly as you would think. Thank goodness for the property staff being organized and professional.Their carts helped with unloading our multiple boxes. Mike and Alfredo let us pull our U-Haul in and out of the gate. Sayra checked on how things were going for us as we ran into each other while she was touring others. This was all after Wade and Jim changed out the out kitchen appliances with new units and changing the upstairs flooring from carpet to a chic dark wood flooring!
Great place to live. Perfect for dogs, great location, easy to get a cab right out front. Staff does a great job with requests and questions. Im going to miss this place!
DONT live here always under constuction the elevators dont work so good luck moving in or out. Homeless sleeping/camping in the elevators to get out to 3rd street.Constant construction so good luck using the gym/pool or anything else you need.FYI the grills have not worked for 6 months still not fixed.Bonus get your can broken into with no security footage.Staff does not care about residents problems no wonder everyone only stays the 1 year agreement.
Disappointing moving in experience. I arrived late on the day they told me to move in. The people of leasing office had already gone, but according to their instructions, I should still be able to pick up my room key in security desk. However, the staff of security desk was not told about this and they did not have my key. I had no choice but to find another place to stay for a night.
Great place to live. Great office staff and ideal location!
I love this place! Best property management around and a great deal for the location if you consider the square footage.
Dear Alisa, and Soma Square family,Thank you so much for making our move smooth as possible. We felt very welcome, and we are thankful for all the help you offered us for making our new apartment to feel like home.See you soon,Odaya
I recently moved to SoMa square apartments. It has been a great experience so far. The leasing agent, Drew, is amazing and was very helpful throughout the process. He showed me pretty much every available apartment in the complex so that I could make an informed decision. Drew was also very helpful and patient with any and all questions regarding the leasing process and setting up utilities. The SomaSquare community is a quiet oasis in the middle of the bustling Soma neighborhood. There are about 6-8 buildings which form an enclosed compound. There is astroturf grass and trees one the compound which have been sculptured and laid out in a pleasing manner. As for the facilities, there is a small pool, a hot tub, a well equipped gym, and a lounge with Wifi. The community is centrally located with about 5 restaurants right below it, a wine bar, and a ping pong bar across the street. There is also a liquor store, laundromat, dentist, masseuse, and rental car services on site. It is also a couple of blocks from Whole Foods and the Metreon shopping center. Overall it is probably the most conveniently located property I have come across in SF.As for my apartment, it is a newly renovated one bedroom with vinyl floors, full sized washer/dryer, new appliances, high ceilings, and a well-sized patio. The rent was very competitive. Ive read some reviews that mention the community as being noisy. I havent found that to be the case. The people in this community have been very respectful. Even when people are having drinks near the fire pit or dipping in the hot tub Ive never found them to be noisy or obnoxious. It has always been quiet and Ive slept well. It should be noted that this is a big community with six buildings and close to 400 units so some apartments might have a different experience depending whether they are facing the road or whether they are facing the construction across one of the streets; so ymmv. The facilities staff do an excellent job keeping the place clean. The staff is also courteous and professional while handling issues from quite a significant number of residents. There is a concierge for packages and besides 2-4pm they are available all through the night. This is also one of the safer parts of the city. Overall Im very pleased so far and look forward to my stay at SomaSquare.
I moved to Soma Square one year ago. This please is excellent, you have everything in the community like gym, laundry room, pool, storage and bbq areas. The location is very good, just a few blocks away from Market street, Target, Whole Foods, AT&T Park and many restaurants.
Systemically mismanaged property, outrageous rent, and poor security. Theres been dozens of breakins this year, including vehicles in their parking garage and rooms in the resident storage facility, and elevators that regularly jam trapping residents inside.Management only seems to care about fixing cosmetic issues while ignore resident safety and security.
I dont know why almost every day in the renovation, the noise is unbearable, why not do this in the afternoon? Whenever I want to catch up on sleep, decoration sound in the ear, its soooooo noisy!!!!
Very nice area and close to shopping. Thanks for the tour too.
A few months back I wrote a praise about Jermaine. He was so helpful. And now again Soma Square has found an unbelievably kind and giving person to help their community. Alisa Shaheen.Alisa went out of her way on many occasions in order to make my stay at SS a pleasure. She seemed to always be one of the first people into the office, and almost every single time I went to the office for a request or to pick up a package she was there to help me. It does not go unnoticed how hard she works. She sat down with me in order to ensure that my move away from SS (for work reasons) was a smooth transition. Not only this, but she is always quick to respond via email. If there was ever a question I had she was sure to respond within the hour. It truly made me feel comfortable and like someone higher up really cared. I would highly recommend that Alisa is the best women for the job at Soma Square, and I see a really bright future for her within real estate thanks to her kindness and intelligence.~~ Don
Almost a year of rent being paid early by a week to 2 weeks at times but the ONE time my payment is late, they give me the its policy bullsh*t. $3400/mo and they wont waive a $160 late fee as a courtacy ONE TIME. Save your money and keep looking around. This place is not worth the money nor the issues with the building.
Great community, great location, great staff!I moved to SoMA Square from Washington DC. The location was perfect for proximity to my office as well as walkability to Whole Foods and Target.Due to moving across country, I had an interesting predicament where I had a massive shipment of belongings arrive on a day that I was traveling and couldnt be present. The moving company refused to deliver without someone to grant them access. I was in a jam, but Alisa and team came to the rescue. She made sure the move went super smooth by taking care of every detail including ensuring the moving company knew where to unload - all without me having to be present. It was by far the nicest moving experience Ive ever had. Thanks Alisa! The staff is super friendly, very responsive, and always willing to help, the amenities are excellent and well maintained, the residents are friendly and helpful, and the night time security patrol, Calvin, is awesome.Overall, its a great community situated right in the middle of SoMA. I would recommend it to just about anyone.
Alisa Shaheen is amazing - super helpful, friendly, professional, and nice. The rest of the SOMA Square front office staff needs a lesson in manners, professionalism, and customer service.
I absolutely LOVE SOMA Square. GREAT location, clean units & clean common areas. The maintenance team is prompt, respectable & knows what they are doing. Very well ran establishment, very professional & polite. My wife & I gave the leasing agent a list of request on what we were looking for & he NAILED it! The Manager Wade Machon excellent customer service, Alissa Shaheen & Mike Lopez are fantastic. I highly recommend this place, youre not going to find any other place that is more complete, well put together, clean & located in better place!!!!5 stars with 2 thumbs up!!
This concern has already bothered for a year.I used to be a resident in Soma Square in SF, and I think there is real racism going on within the leasing office. One day I and my family were BBQing near the pool and a black leasing office staff walk towards our family with no smile on his face and asking us to clean up once we finished. At the same time, there was another group of white people BBQing, but this staff didnt say anything to them.We are not barbarians and we know that we will clean up everything and we did do that, but this staff just assumed every Asia is gonna left the mess behind. This is apparently racism.Another day I was waiting in line in the leasing office, a lady from leasing office just skipped me to serve a white people behind me.Whats going on with your employees?
The best rental experience I have ever had, hands down. Thank you Sayra (and SOMA Square Apartments), you are rock stars!Life changed in an instant after grad school and I was making well over 6 figures but needed a place to live for work (and quickly). Student loans and debt equated to not having the best of credit but the SOMA Square leasing team was able to work with me, utilizing my offer letter. Now, I have an amazing view of AT&T Ball Park and I am close to transportation, baseball games, the Embarcadero, and amazing activities. The staff (from the leasing team to maintenance) are awesome. I couldn’t be happier with my experience at SOMA Square Apartments and look forward to extending my lease when the time approaches- I have found a wonderful new home!
Tired of this place now.ELEVATORS are always having problems.PACKAGE ROOM facility sucks... They wont allow anyone before 6pm to collect package and after 6 no one is here to give it. There is always board of Be back in 30mins. And few Male associates wants us to follow rules of coming after 6 to receive package. Why dont you start following rules first As****.SWIMMING POOL and Jacuzzi is out of service for 2 months now.Ugly main entrance in under constuction since a month. After a CAR BURGALARY, I tried to contact them to provide a footage of Garage. But thry told me I can get it after a month due to construction. How can you be really that idiot !!!You should provide service for charging ridiculously high rents.
FYI this complex does NOT have washer and dryer in the unit and the staff agreed it would be fixed within 4-6 months--- fyi if that is important look into it! But central location and nice people living / working here.
I absolutely loved this place as far as location, amenities and grounds. I could not believe how much space the community has in the middle of SOMA!After a long day of apartment hunting, this was my last stop. Brianna, was a breath of fresh air in her friendly and informative attitude. So why am I taking away a star? Well, perhaps it is a bit out of feeling sorry for myself, As a single, working woman, it would be impossible for me to be able to afford this place after all of the additional costs for pets and utilities are tacked onto the monthly rent. Add the star back, if you have the dough to spend! So, I did move here after all. I took a unit that faces the 80 freeway, across from a motorcycle wheel shop that is very active on the weekends. I have been here about 15 months. Here is my experience:There are a lot of Academy of Art students sharing apartments. There are a lot of people bringing Airbnb guests to make ends meet. They have a concierge to receive packages. You want to lock your doors, because there have been street people going into apartments. The pool flooded and was shut down for months when it flooded twice.Square was torn up for several months to fix plumbing leaks into garage.Psycho neighbor was my problem to deal with.Rent increase was negotiated down to $200/mo.Maintenance is highly responsive.Briana was promoted to another complex as she deserved. I don’t know about current staff, other than psycho neighbor issue.Washing machines smell of moldy clothes, but most apartments have their own w/d units.Management does not clean or maintain doggie park.Elevator from street has been broken for 2 months. It smells like pee.Harrison side has a problem with someone breaking car windows and damaging cars parked on the street. Needles are frequently found on that side of the building. I have been harassed twice at the door back there coming home from work.My apartment is nice though, the pool, hot tub, workout rooms and fire pit area are a nice plus and well maintained. The buildings are well insulated heating bills are low, noise from neighbors never heard in the units. You have to take the good and the bad living in this area, or any apartment.Overall, for the price and location, I am pleased with my choice, compared to what I have seen out there. I’ll stick with my 4 star rating.
New management went with new unfriendly security, fed up the mail room, reduced the timelines of maintenance, and comically tried to fit shuffle board in the security station.... which was removed. the dogs are nice.
Great amenities but interior design needs some work
Im nearing 5 years at Soma Square and Im proud to call this place home! Alisa and Mike in the leasing office, Jim in maintenance, and Tom in security are responsive to any and all needs, and Wade has the complex running like a well-oiled machine.
Quick and easy move in, after long relocation process!
Terrible place. Management is awful and they do not care about residents -- imagine living in a place where they keep shutting water off, sometimes at less than 24 hours notice. Reason? Because they are upgrading units so they can charge higher rentals. Yes, nothing to do with residents already there.Avoid at all costs.
Managements are unfriendly and neighbors are noisy (the wall is too slim between my room and others) :(
Soma Square Apartments is known for its dishonest staff and deceptive ways of stealing tenants money.
Perfect for students who go to academy of art
Terrible attitude,noisy with expensive rent
My name is SOMA.
Bit run down
