I’ve been coming here to train for years now. The staff has always been kind and relaxed, it’s exactly what you would expect for a gym to be so open and accepting. It’s a gym where change is accepted and promoted. The staff are always so supportive and helpful. It’s a community that constantly grows. It’s a word of mouth kind of place, highly recommend to come check it out yourselves and experience it for yourself. Oss 🤙🏾

Over the last couple years Ive had the opportunity to work with and learn from a lot of amazing people at Stronghold. BJJ has been the most humbling, frustrating, and rewarding thing I have ever done. The professors here are always willing to take extra time to make sure everyone understands the moves and concepts. Professors Mike, Johnny, Vince and John have a ton of knowledge they are constantly sharing with their students. Great place for families, athletes, competitors, or people just looking to get in shape and pick up a couple self defense skills along the way.

This place is awesome, very welcoming and family oriented. Immediately I felt like I was part of the family. I was in a dark place mentally going through a rough patch in life and I found Jiu Jitsu, but not just any gym. I found my refuge at the stronghold. They helped me in so many ways and for that I could never repay them. I highly recommend this gym to anyone, no matter your level of training.

I recently moved to San Diego from Chicago and I was looking for a place to continue my training in BJJ. Coach Mike and Raquel welcomed me with open arms. In this day and age of everyone trying to make a name for themselves and focusing more on the business side of things, it was quite refreshing to see that the people of The Stronghold were exactly the opposite and focused on the people rather than seeing them as numbers. The training quality speaks for itself - having world class athletes and coaches with proven competition results. It’s really nerve racking, especially as a beginner, to find a place that will make you feel comfortable and push you at the same time, but people at The Stronghold make you feel at ease and are the greatest training partners anyone could ask for. When my kids are older, I will be enrolling them in the kids class especially after seeing how much fun these kids are having with their coaches and training partners. I would definitely recommend The Stronghold for beginners and people who are continuing their training as well.

Having never done Brazilian Jiu Jitsu before, I was nervous when I first walked in. However, as soon as I walked in I was greeted by friendly people who have since grown into good friends. The teachers are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Everyone is there to learn, have a good time, and get a great workout.

We have loved having our two littles training jiu jitsu at The Stronghold. Raquel is an amazing coach and my kids love going and learning new skills and playing games. Every week they have a new virtue word (respect, kindness, etc.) so its cool to see them learning not only jiu jitsu techniques but character lessons. Also, they do a really good job of keeping the studio super clean, which is important with little ones. If youre considering enrolling your kids in a martial arts class--I would highly recommend jiu jitsu and especially The Stronghold!

It took me about 2 years of convincing to start Jiu Jitsu. Once I did, I regretted not starting sooner. I instantly caught the BJJ bug. I truly believe the fun, laid back, and family atmosphere of The Stronghold is a major factor why I continue my Jiu Jitsu journey with this academy. Whatever your reason for starting BJJ, from the owners, professors, coaches and teammates, The Stronghold is a great place to learn and “Trust in the Gentle Art”.See you on the mats! Oss.

I started jiu jitsu about 6 months ago, and it has completely changed my life. Stronghold is the best instruction and community that I have found around the San Diego area. I leave each training session with such a positive feeling and strong motivation for the next class. I encourage everyone to stop by Stronghold and try it out, given the impact it has had on me.

I have been to several other jiujitsu schools and The Stronghold is by far the best one I have been to. I am now a member and all the professors are very effective at developing individuals and the school as a team. There is so much camaraderie and good people there. Professor Mike, Vince, Tama, and Jaime are excellent and I am lucky to be taught by these great guys. Oss

I have been training Jiu Jitsu since 2010 and have trained at many gyms with instructors from all over the world (was active duty military from 2001-2011 and moved around a lot from 2011-present for civilian job). I am proud to say I have finally found a permanent Jiu Jitsu home in The Stronghold! I have been there for about a year now and feel like a part of the family. Mike Cusi (Roy Harris black belt) is an exceptional instructor and has been in the San Diego area for a long time so has deep roots in the BJJ community here. We get world champion guest instructors all the time to go along with the daily black belt instruction. Whether you are brand new to Jiu Jitsu or a seasoned vet looking for a home to train this is a place. Additionally, there kids program is excellent! Audric is one of the best young instructors I have ever met and is a very knowledgeable and technical instructor. The Cusis, both Mike and Raquel, are VERY involved in the community and are always looking for ways to give back. They treat their gym like a family and not just a business and you will not find a family more dedicated to making people better.

I have been training at Stronghold for a little over three years now. The instructors genuinely care about your progression and want to ensure your success. It’s also refreshing to train jiu jitsu in a fairly relaxed, positive atmosphere. While training I feel like I’m training with my friends and family. I always recommend Stronghold whenever someone mentions that they want to try out jiu jitsu. If you’re interested in jiu jitsu, make sure you check them out!
