I just got back from a two day trip on the Mustang and I cant wait to go again! Love fishing with this captain and crew! Last year I was nervous to go on my first solo overnight trip but as soon as I got on-board I knew I didnt need to worry and by the time I left I felt like family. Ive gone out on other boats since but I patiently waited for the Mustang to show up on the schedule again this year because they are hands down my favorite boat to fish on! The guys are helpful and have great attitudes, Chucks food is delicious, and Steve is relentless when it comes to hunting fish! Its also pretty cool to know youre almost always going to hear Step Brothers playing at lunch time
This is one of the best trips I had the opportunity to come on. From the incredible Chef Chuck to the phenomenal deck hands and of course Captain Steve and Mike. They were amazing company and put us on a unbelievable amount of fish. The food alone will keep me coming back because the Chef does it all from scratch. I will be returning customer for years to come and will be sure to let everyone I know who to charter with if they want to have the best experience possible.
Best tuna trip in a while. Captain Steve and the entire crew of the Mustang are all top notch. They are experienced, hardworking, funny and know how to find the tuna and get them on the boat. I was especially impressed with captain Steve. He worked hard in the captains chair and on deck along side his crew. The food was top and notch and the cook was on his game from start to finish.I highly recommend the Mustang for your next sportfishing adventure. Thanks guys,Marc
Had a great trip on the mustang!! Captain Steve is world class skipper! He is relentless at his craft. I was very impressed with everything. His crew and him both work extremely hard to get you one the fish! It was a tough day fishing but he still put on fish throughout the day. Listen to what him and the crew say and you will get your chance to put blood on the deck. Already have another trip with them on the works. LISTEN TO THE CREW!!! I find it unbelievable how many people don’t listen and complain they not catching fish! Can’t wait to get back out with these guys!
I went on the Mustang and fished with Steve change your bait Gawitt. Steve fishs hard and tirelessly to put his passengers on biting fish. Steve is a great fisherman and doesnt hold back on his secrets to success... if your bait isnt swimming change it immediately! Do yourself a favor people, go on the Mustang. Its an awesome boat with a helpful crew and a captain thats relentless when it comes to putting fish on the deck. Keep up the great work Steve and the crew!

We chartered a Full Day Tuna fishing trip aboard the Mustang from H & M Landing for September 22nd, 2019. It was scheduled to leave port at 6am and return at 6pm. All 40 passengers were present, checked in, and waiting to board by 5:30am. We didnt begin boarding the vessel until just after 6 am, our scheduled departure time. We didnt leave port til around 6:20-6:30.After aboard and looking to stow our poles and tackle, we find that the fixed rod-holders on the side of the boat were installed so that the clips were at the same height where many of our rods had an eyelet, so they couldnt be stored unless at an angle or clipped under the eyelet, putting pressure on and possibly risking bending the metal. The tackle storage was a joke, it was literally two small shelves about 2 ft x 3 ft x 4ft in size each and nowhere close to being enough space to fit the tackle of the passengers aboard. Needless to say our tackle boxes were spilling out into the walkway. The boat specs listed 32 bunks available but when we went down into the bunk area to claim our bunks, we were informed that the bunks were not for sleeping or resting, and more just for storage purposes. It was freezing in the bunk area anyways. The amount of space on the sides of the boat for people to fish/walk was a measly 2 ft at best, meaning once someone was there, moving past them was a mission and required both parties to squeeze past. Trying to change out bait was a mess and I was certain someone would end up getting hooked. We arrive at the bait barge and at least 3 other boats that left port after us, came and went while we dawdled along. We didnt begin making our way to the fishing grounds until well after 7am. The first location we stopped at seemed like it had the most action, 1 passenger actually managed to hook something although in the end it got away. That, 1 fish hooked was the only action seen by anyone all day. Every spot we stopped at for the rest of the day saw no action whatsoever. Not a single bite despite nearly everyone on board having at least some sort of fishing experience, there wasnt a single rental pole on board. Even the group of 5-8 young boys were all experienced fishermen each with their own poles and tackle setups. The captain didnt even try taking responsibility for any of it and blamed it on the fish not biting. We were the only vessel out that day that didnt catch anything. Even the boats that normally charter for whale watching came back with tuna aboard that day. We didnt catch a single fish, tuna or not. We paid almost $200 a person at the end of the day and got not a single fish to bring home or the experience of even hooking a fish for the full 12 hours. We were never offered any compensation for the failed trip and the captain even had the audacity to try guilting the passengers who didnt opt to tip for the failed trip into leaving one. I have to say, this was the most unprofessional and disappointing ship I have ever been aboard. The crew, Im sure were not the ones at fault, the captain, or co-captains that day made poor decision after decision and didnt own up to any of it. I for one, will NEVER go out aboard the Mustang again, nor would I ever suggest anyone else.
2nd time I have fished the Mustang with captain Steve and his crew. 1st time, the whole boat only caught 2 yellow fin tuna and blue fin. I was 1 of the lucky people with a bluefin. The captain and crew worked tirelessly, and despite the slow day overall, stayed out later than scheduled just to keep trying. This impressed me so much, that I gave them a 2nd shot 2 weeks later. We were rewarded with the highest fish count per passenger of any H&M landing that day. The crew was tireless in helping everyone out of tangles, or gaffing fish. Limit style worldclass fishing. Thanks again!
Five of us booked a last minute trip yesterday. To say we were immensely disappointed is an understatement. Five other boats boats docked at H and M landing at the same time we did, and between those five boats they caught 125 yellow Finn & 140 bluefin. WE DID NOT CATCH A SINGLE FISH, NOT ONE, ONE OUR ENTIRE BOAT! Some of us are pro fisherman and feel that the Captain really doesn’t know what he’s doing. Other boats around us were pulling fish in constantly! We all realize that it’s called “fishing” for a reason, but for $1,625.00 ( just for us 5 fellas), we are beyond disappointed & put it down to the captains inability to fish.
1st time aboard charter boat the Mustang out of San Diego at H&M landings. I had great expectations because the fishing reports looked amazing. Captain Steve and crew did not disappoint. We were able to catch multiple species, yellowfin, yellowtail, skipjack, Dorado, and bonito. Never been on a charter with a better crew, top notch, and the food was great. I will recommend the Mustang fishing charter to everyone and Im looking forward to my next over night trip this October.
