The staff is very friendly, wait was short, very professional and they had our vehicle, but it was by far the worst rental vehicle Ive ever had to drive. I didnt realize until the end of the first day that the sun visor on the drivers side was completely missing, and the spots for hooking up a cell phone charger didnt work at all. The van itself was in terrible condition. I have never seen a vehicle in this bad of shape available for rental.It was cheap, Ill give them that. But wow. I probably wouldnt do this again.
It started with a hassle free booking. The car rented to us was in great condition. Returning the vehicle was also a smooth process. They have a superb customer service and a very helpful front desk assistance.I wont hesitate to recommend AVR to all my friends and relatives.
They were a little under staffed so check in was slow but very friendly. We rented the 12 passenger Ford Transit XLT. It was just my wife and two kids and I but thought it would be fun to have for a few days. It was awesome, clean in new condition fun, easy to drive and pretty good on gas. It was great to pick up my friends family of 5 and go anywhere together in one ride. The return was fast and hassle free.
Pick up was a bit slow. The rental places is NOT located at the rental center at the airport and is not open until 8am. You are charged if you have to drop your van off before they open. Our flight came in early and we had to wait until they rental place opened. Costumer service was good and the lady at the counter was patient. We were a bit agitated from waiting after our long and earlier flight. Prices were high after all the additional fees were added.
This place is a scam. Run away do NOT RENT FROM THEM. They say the gas was not filled when it was. Drop off location doesn’t have someone to check the vehicle and they claim damage and no gas. I have to email receipts and locations to prove that I filled the tank. Plus the secondary drop off the shuttle driver said take a picture of the vehicle all around and a picture of the lot attendant because this business is known to say you didn’t drop the vehicle or they say it was damaged due to theft. He said one time the drop lot drove the vehicle after the drop and used gas then the renter was charged. This is probably what happened to me. A complete scam and shady company. Bad customer service and the vehicles are NOT in good shape either. They SMELL bad and have been ran into the dirt. Please do not rent from them ever!!!!!!!!!!
I really had a good experience here. I chose AVR because their prices were literally less than half the cheapest on-site minivan rental. It took an extra hour plus to get my minivan than I would have expected from one of the on-site rental places, but they were unusually busy (which can happen at any place). They even gave me a little discount due to the wait. The additional shuttle off-site only took an extra 20 minutes between waiting and travel time. Its actually walking distance if you are the adventurous type. On return, they took me right back to the airport in the same van I had rented.They are located off-site on a lot with a fence around it and a little office that wasnt super clean. Im really glad I left my group back at the airport with the bags. Thats a good strategy, as there isnt really a place for several people to congregate here. I just picked them up when I got the van. The van I was assigned had some minor dents and I made sure to take photos in case they gave me a hard time on return (which I didnt need).Overall, the van was sufficient for my needs and had no major issues and I was very happy with my experience.
This place is terrible. Staff was rude and made me wait almost 2 hours, I had made reservations a month in advance and the van was there (just needed to be cleaned) zero customer service skills. The manger was worse then the employee. The van itself was fine. I recommend staying away!
We showed up and they wanted to charge an extra $20 fee that was nowhere on reservation. We did not argue, but just asked why and then lady said WE were being rude and refused service. We had no anger or hostility, just trying to understand the extra fee, which we were willing to pay! This place is crazy and should be avoided.
Rented from AVR San Diego Feb 13, 2020 for 5 days did not have any problems checking in. just make sure you look car over good for scratches and dents and check windshield also our had a small chip out and we didnt noticed right away thank God I took pictures. I took pictures of the outside and inside all the way around. and thank God I did because when we took it back Maria said did you see this chip in the window and I said yes we did and I got pictures that I took before we pulled out of there so they had the dates on them. but I guess if I would have not took them pictures we would have had problems. so I guess the only thing I can say is take pictures up close of everything. just in case you miss something like we did.

I have rented cars in the past from other agencies and have never had a bad experience. Im extremely disappointed and will NEVER rent from here again.The wait to pick up the van was over an hour and all they could offer was a 5% discount for wasting time. They also charge you $20 to drop off the vehicle after hrs.I regret not reading the reviews in advance. Wish there was an option to not select a Star as they do not deserve one.
Easy to find. Quick, friendly service. Prices were exactly what was quoted. Offered better fill up price than any station in town, so that option was a grwat bargain.
Horrible customer service!!! Tried to shake me down when I’m turned in the vehicle by claiming there was a crack in the windshield. I thoroughly examined the car and noted all scratches and dents. The “crack” is so minute it was not detectable. With all the bugs on the windshield you would never be able to see it. I took pictures and videos to prove the point. Told me I could pay $50 now or they would claim it on my insurance or take my deposit.Never ever use these scam artists.
Never, ever use American Van Rental! We arrived at San Diego Airport and rode the shuttle to where we were supposed to pick up our van. Called phone number countless times with no answer; this was about 2:40 pm on a Sunday. My friend finally got ahold of someone at a customer service number somewhere in the world, (but not San Diego). By the time this happened it was close to 3:00 pm. She was told that the office closed at 3:00 in the afternoon, and further, that they cancelled our car because we didn’t pick it up at the 2:00 scheduled time. Really????? At an airport???? Where planes, baggage claim etc are often late or slow? I have NEVER had this happen with a reputable company. Neither does a reputable company close at 3:00 on a Sunday afternoon.I would NEVER recommend these people. Have never had such an unsatisfactory travel experience, and I’ve traveled for a long time.
Have taken a minivan, clean and good condition. Just check there are scratches here and there which needs to be noted before pickup. Have filed gas just before 3 miles and they charged for 2.5 gallons refill. Beware of it... Gas station is just beside the rental office and have not noticed be me at the time of pickup. Other than that customer service is fine.
Gave us a good Dodge Van. Had tiny little Nicks and dings here and there..but was clean. Dodge is all they have. Decent price. Smelled like B.O. when we had AC on but it drove well. Staff was informative and fair. Worked with us on pick up and drop off times.

Manager Maria has terrible customer service. Dont waste your time with this company! Took over an hour at pickup, no sense of urgency, no return calls from manager. Was charged an excessive cleaning fee for sand in van and sandy tires. Manager did not want to make it right unless I wrote a good review. Spend your money elsewhere.
Im only giving 1 star because I cant give less. We rented a minivan. We had car trouble and couldnt get the van started. Called the office (during business hours)... left a message at 0900. Called roadside assistance twice...left a message..twice. we never received a phone call back. I called roadside assistance back at 6pm...they said sorry...the rental place is now closed and they cant help. Seriously....we were stranded all day without a car.
First off does not state that it is a off site rental company. Airport Van Rental should be at the airport rental car place but it is not. Had no problems renting was very polite during that process. When we returned the vehicle we stopped and filled gas tank at local gas station near the house we rented. Which as everybody knows you leave with full tank you return with full tank. Not this rental car company when they say full tank they want it topped off at the gas station next door. So had to take van and top off tank but all streets are 1 way around here. Will never use this company again.
If I could give less, I would. This company embraces deception as part of their business model. Rented van on the web. This van came up as unlimited mileage. Van was non-refundable, but a good price. Took all my personal information and credit card and all was good. At the time of pickup at their office, they alert me to the fact that as a local renter I am not entitled to unlimited miles. I am fine with that policy. Companies should be able to have these types of rules they feel are needed. But this is a total bait and switch. In the day of e-commerce and transparency when making such purchases, they should not engage in this type of deceptive practices. It would be easy to set a flag when I enter my address alerting me to this rule regarding local renters. Then, I could have made the decision to continue or not.Their drop-off policy is similar. They allowed me to reserve van until Sunday afternoon, no problem. Again, I was alerted, after my non-refundable payment was taken, that they close at 2pm on Sunday and I would have to drop the van off at a satellite lot. No problem. However, they added that I would have to pay $20 additional to pay for the parking spot and that even though I turned the van in, I would be responsible for any damage or theft until they pick it up the next day. I left it in a parking lot. Attendant took the keys. No receipt or anything to prove van was deliivered on time, without damage, etc. Suffice to say, I will not be using this company again.
Theres an additional fee if you drop off after they are closed. We rented the van at 10am to 6pm and they close at 2pm on the weekends. This hidden fee made it so I shouldve rented a vehicle from hertz instead to save money. On top of that when we arrived they said they had to get more vans so we had to wait 45 min outside of their doors for them to bring it back. So we lost an hour on our rental on top of having to pay the fee.
I rarely write reviews unless Im fired up. Two things...1. They tried to charge me an extra $100 because I was picking up and dropping off at two different locations. Nothing in their quote even MENTIONED something like that. It was an ambush so I complained but had to call a Supervisor to get this charge reversed.2. When I dropped off the van to their off site location I asked for a ride back to the airport (literally 1 mile down the street) and was told they couldnt take me to the airport but that they could shuttle me to the other car rental shuttle 5 miles away.I was so done with them I tossed them the keys and took an Uber ride to the airport. I find it hilarious that they are named AIRPORT Van Rental, but they wont take you to...dun dun duhhhh the AIRPORT! Id rather pay up and avoid the hassle from these jokers.

The price and van were ok but you have to take a shuttle to catch another off site shuttle in LA in a random parking lot on the side of the road. Very inconvenient for someone with 4 kids and 7 bags. It took an hour from the time I got in the first shuttle to driving off of the lot at their off site location. The van was filthy in the inside, I had to buy Clorox wipes to clean it.I dropped it off in San Diego and ended up getting a Lyft back to the airport to avoid taking another two shuttles.The customer service in both locations was subpar. Neither agent seemed to care at all about providing good service. Both of the buildings were dumps
I had a great experience at this place an I strongly recommend this van rental place for everyone. I got the van that I asked for with a reasonable price it was clean soft and quite and I returned it next day with a super fast check out and a smile from the front desk employee. Loved it and will sure go there again when I need a van for rent next time.
We were very pleased with our van rental at AVR. The price was much lower than other companies, the van was in good condition and the service was excellent. We always worry about customer service, especially the airport pick up and drop off, with an off-airport rental company. They were prompt and upon return they delivered us directly to the airport in the van we had rented. No need to move our luggage to another vehicle. Much easier than the on-airport rental companies that require you to take a shuttle.
We rented a 7-passenger van from the Hapeville Georgia location. The service and the people were excellent in their timeliness and their professionalism and they were extremely friendly. The rental was very affordable compared to other rentals we have used in the past. We were picked up from the busy ATL Airport and did not have to even get on the tram. Our return was just as efficient. I highly recommend AVR of Georgia.

Be warned! This rental company overbooks and has no problem leaving you stranded at the airport. No heads up email or call. We were lied to and told that the one van they had set aside for us was in an accident and we were out of luck. Cheap, fast, and easy. No pressure. You definitely get what you pay for so have realistic expectations. My car had scratches all over it and some stains inside, but I just made sure to take pictures during the walk around. They didnt try to scam me anyway. Highly recommend

We had no complaints with our experience renting a minivan with AVR. We needed to return the van early morning and were able to use their after-hours agreement with Wally Park. They just canceled my reservation for NO reason, admitting its their system mistake while totally ruined my plans and are not compensating for my loss of time and money in any way. Such dishonored business they are and I do hope they close for good soon in the future to avoid further disruption of other peoples lives.
What can I start with? The other reviewers said a lot. The only word I can say is avoid. Waited more than 30 min to get the van at st site, very dirty van. 84000 miles on it for a rental van!! A guy was trying to wipe the window with a dirty cloth. It was a family trip with babies and a lot of bags so I did not have a chance to switch to another rental company. When returning the van at the sd site, I confessed that there are some chips on the floor but I have no time to vacuum since I was trying to catch a flight. It all sounded fine with a worker there. But a guy calling himself the manager came out and wanted to charge me $90 for chips on the floor. When told I got the van dirty, he insisted I should pay $55 since I got a low rental rate. What a joke!
I would have given this rental service a higher rating if not for an incident at drop off. The price for the weekly rental was very reasonable ( booked directly through company), the van was a newer model (27500 miles) with a few noted scratches and very clean. You need to take two shuttles from the airport to get to AVR, but the process was smooth and quick enough. The return trip after drop off from AVR to airport in the rented car is very convenient. Agents were all professional and pleasant My gripe was an extra charge for gas fill up. I filled the gas tank at a station about three miles from AVR, dropped off one of my party at the airport, stopped for lunch at Shelter Harbor (total drive about 12 miles). The AVR rep claimed the tank was not completely full and deducted $7 from my deposit. Not a huge deal, but it left a negative impression on the whole deal
If I could give 0 stars I would. We prepaid for a car and when we got to the airport called this company, as instructed. When we called they said they had NO economy cars. All they had was a 12 seater van. No one called or emailed to tell us they would be unable to fulfill our reservation. Spoke with a manager they did nothing for us. Terrible customer service. Currently looking for a new rental car since this one screwed us. AND we need to fight to get our money back. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!
Worst car renting experience ever. Waited at airport for over 25 minutes to get picked up. Finally got there and they had 4 other people in front of us. They didnt have any cars so were sending employees to go pick some up. After over an hour we finally got to the front and some new guy showed up and said sorry we dont have your van. Even though an employee showed up with a van he was cleaning to rent. Then the guy wouldnt even acknowledge us. Like we werent human. We never hot verbally upset with any of them, however the lady in front of us had it out with them. I WOULD NEVER RENT FROM THEM
There will be nobody there to greet you on arrival. My vehicle was still being cleaned when I came to pick it up and I had to sit on a bench for 30 min while they cleaned it and fueled it.The customer service is non existant, and when I brought my vehicle back after having topped it off full 7 miles from the facility, I was charged for an additional 3 gallons of fuel at an astronomical rate. Everything about this experience besides the rate of rental was less than desired. The facility at LAX is much more accommodating. Not so much here.
Very good experience with my mini van rental from AVR in San Diego. They are off site of the airport though- just a heads up- but no problem with pick up or drop off. Jeff helped me and was easy to work with and everything went quickly and smoothly! I will continue to use AVR in the future!
RISK NOT BEING ABLE TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE YOU RESERVEDI rented a vehicle from the AVR in San Diego one week prior to our trip, I even confirmed the reservation with the customer help desk. At pick-up, we were told that NO VEHICLES WERE AVAILABLE. We presented our confirmation number and paperwork for the booking, but was told that the booking reference did not mean a thing, and that they did NOT have a vehicle for us. We were left on the street without a vehicle. I contacted the customer help desk after and was told that they sometimes overbook, or customers extend the use of their vehicles....Rent elsewhere.
Absolutely terrible service and hours of operation. Did not disclose a lot and not willing to go out of way to help at all as had terrible time trying to return vehicle. Would not do business again.

This is the worst car rental company I have ever seen... Trashy, zero customer service and they will probably change the terms of your booking as they did to me... And the minivan was a trashy minivan... And by the way they have no shuttle bus service from either the airport or the Remote Depot from where they are supposed to pick up customers... Instead they use an old, beat up and trashy van from a parking lot service company (it has the sign of the parking company and not AVR) And the weird driver who shows up an hour late and after you informed them that you are still waiting, will let you know that hes doing you a favor as hes working for the parking company and not for AVR and so you have to tip him...I felt like I was in a B rated horror movie...From now I will use only major rental car companies..
I had a prepaid nonrefundable rental for 5 days...I get to the airport shuttle 1 hour after I was suppose to be picked up... Was on hold for 1 hour....By the time I got to shuttle pick up was 2 hours and 10 minutes....I was told that they no longer had my van to go somewhere else to rent and I lost my money....My question is if you prepaid how can they give it away???🤔🤔🤔🤔

You have got to be kidding me. I ask you please to not listen to any other reviews on google. This has to be one of the worst car rental places in the country. When at the aiport they lied to my family saying that their airport van was broken when in reality it was fine. We had to Uber there only to discover that the minivan that we reserved was not there. Instead the horrific employees of AVR tried to rent us a van that could of been an old airport shuttle. It was huge and my family knew we couldn’t park it anywhere. We proceeded to cancel our reservation only to find out two days later that they secretly kept half of our refund. They had to drive us back to the airport in their supposedly broken shuttle to rent some place else. If there was a zero star option I would be rating this place 100% accurate.
I reserved a minivan through expedia. but after I read all the reviews, I cancelled it. Then I found all other minivans from other big names suddenly went up a lot and I had to reserve one from AVR (San Diego) again.The whole experience is quite pleasant. No hassles at all. Van is kinda old with more than 70K mileage but they kept it very clean. I returned the vehicle two hours over due but they didnt charge the extra hours.And when they learned my flight is in one hour and the airport shuttle just left. The guy immediately drove the mini van I rent to send us to the airport.

Scam artists!! They say one charge, then charge another without informing you they are charging more on your card. They lied about what they charged to credit card, instead of $300 they charged over $1000 before informing of $600 deposit fees. Charged for 3 vehicles instead of one. Will never use them again.

I wish I could rate ZERO stars. Our plane ran 90 minutes late without warning. We had no way to contact NU while in the air. Our reservation was made months ago. We landed at 3pm instead of 1pm and they gave away our rental van. The rude NU employee could have cared less that we were traveling alllllll day with children, one a baby. I asked what we should do now that we have no transpiration and he said try another company. Giving away our reserved van is one thing but the complete disregard for your customers and zero humanistic approach is appalling. Please consider another company when booking your rental cars.
100 miles per day limit!? Really!?After I decline the company insurance and use my credit card instance, the staff start telling that they dont want to rent the van to be and then show me the 100 miles per day limit!I decided to rent from the main carrier and they are even cheaper.
The worst car rental experience Ive ever had! We sat and waited almost 30 minutes to be picked up at San Diego airport by AVR shuttle, then it took almost another 30 minutes to do the paperwork. The van we were provided was horrific. It was filthy inside and out. The air conditioner vents had so much visible crude in them, we were afraid to turn the a/c on. One of the sliding doors did not open, the remote key did not work, and the drivers seat was broken. This was the first and last time I will use this company.

I was very nervous renting from them after hearing bad reviews. But all good. I got a van for $17 a day. I declined insurance. When I returned I thought they would try to nitpick something since I failed to buy insurance (this has happened to me with others). But no. Yes the van had lot of miles (60,000) and was a little dirty with many scratches and such and key fab battery dead. Its not Avis! I documented everything. When returned I had no problems. $84 for five nights Avis would be $500. I used it to camp in while heading up the coast. Saved $100s in hotels. Way to go.

PROS and CONS detailed below.PROS-Jerry (sorry if I didnt spell this right) - YOU WERE AMAZING! - Jerry helped me a find a car that fit my height, noted scratches on our walkaround that I had not even mentioned yet, and explained the insurance options and let me decide on my own without any pressure. Jerry also provided me with some restaurant suggestions and areas to visit.-Straightforward insurance options-PRICE - significantly less than other agencies - Paid what I was quoted on expedia.CONS-Rental car company is off-site (need to take shuttle to rental car area and then arrange AVR van pickup from there - only 10 min drive though).-Had to borrow someones phone at the airport (am from out of the country and didnt have a working phone when I landed) to call AVR to arrange pickup from the rental car area to go to their location - would be better if there was an option to e-mail or message (Free wifi at airport) or if there was a main phone terminal at the car rental area that guests could use to alert the off-site rental car companies that they are ready for pickup.-Driver who picked me up didnt open the door or trunk. I had to load everything myself (not a problem for me but if for example older adults are travelling, this could be difficult for them).-AVR area itself looks run down - glad family wasnt with me when I picked up the car.Would rent with them again.

This location is offsite. They made us sit outside for 2 hours before they would send a shuttle. At 1:30 the time of our reservation we arrived and they told us we have to wait for 2 hours for our car to be ready. Now we are stuck here when we could’ve rented from any location at the airport 4 hours ago.

Found out the hard way that this place is not located with the rest of the rental cars. After being dropped off from the rental car shuttle van, we have to sit and wait for a ride! Rented through kayak and no statement this is off site! Then, they are out of mini vans as booked! Only 12 passenger vans!! Awful!
We rented a van with our company. We asked for an invoice before renting the van and they said that there is no problem. In fact,there was. We never received an invoice, and we tryed several times to contact with the manager at the San Diego airport office and he always was in a conference call. Extremelly unprofessional. My company will never rent van from them anymore.
Very unhappy customer! The two 15 passenger-newer model vans I reserved online 5 months in advance, were not available on my arrival, I was told they were all out.? I was given 2 older model, dirty vans. I had no choice but to accept them as this was a busy weekend with many events planned. Van was dirty. Ground in dirt on back of seats. Gum stuck on side armrest. Over 70,000 miles on van. Two shuttles were taken to AVR.Airport Van rental give us our money back without a fight and give us a shuttle ride back to airport car rental area without further waiting. Then we had to look for a different rental company.The process took over 2 hours of our day.

Waiting for the van to drive us to the pickup location and no van ever showed. Called several times and no answer. Two hours later I get a call saying they overbooked and they cancelled the reservation on me. They offered no help with the situation. There were also about 10 other individuals near me having the same experience.

Avoid this place at all costs. After having received a confirmation number and showing up on time, they had still given our vehicle away. Not sure what the point of a confirmation number is if it isn’t actually confirming you have a vehicle.

Service was lousy and the van we got was a POS... but the did give some concessions. Make sure to get assurances of the vehicle condition to avoid being frustrated or regret.

Rude attitude by staff. Van had to much miliege and not clean. I returned van with full tank but they charge extra $17.13. Manager had no idea about customer service.
Worst experience! Waited 40 minutes at airport for shuttle. Another 40 minutes for vehicle. Customer service was terrible. Avoid AVR if you can!!!!
