⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️5-STARS!I’ve been going to expensive salons for all of my haircuts back home, where the atmosphere is the complete opposite of a barbershop. But I decided to transition to a barber and booked a haircut at Pappy’s now that I’ve moved to the area. I was looking for a more trained cut and style that most salons don’t offer.My appointment was with Amber, and it was honestly the exact opposite of what I anticipated. I was very nervous at first because I’m shy, and barbershops can be intimidating at first, but Amber definitely made me feel comfortable. It was such a relaxing cut, and Amber has excellent chair-side manner!The shop is so clean, and the way they designed the interior is really cool. I didn’t feel out of place at any time during my cut, and wasn’t pushed to buy any product like most places try to. The prices are very reasonable and won’t break the bank, especially for the quality of what you’re getting in your appointments.From what I observed, each barber has a precise hand, and everyone who came in for a cut walked out looking like a million bucks. Amber looked at the picture of what I brought in and together we set some realistic goals. I hopped out of the chair, went home and styled my hair, and fell in love with how perfectly Amber nailed what I was going for. She has absolutely gained a new loyal client!By the way, they’re CASH ONLY! But they have an ATM in case you forgot to withdraw cash before your appointment (like me), and the service fee is only $1.99 for the ATM.

I stopped in and caught up with the Sunday crew this week. These guys are always super inviting and seem like they’re having a good time which makes the experience awesome. Alex gave me a new style on my beard and really nailed the style on my cut, too. The hair and beard trim is always worth it from these guys as they really take the time to do right by you.

I went to their original location for a long time prior to the pandemic. This was my first time in their new location, and its awesome! Much more space, which made me feel safer. I was also really happy to see the barbers all wearing masks. I know this upsets some people, but personally I wouldnt feel comfortable getting a cut without both of us wearing masks, even though Im vaccinated.The quality of the cuts and clean up, the shoulder massage are still top notch. Costs a little more than some other places, but its well worth it. Alex took great care of me, and I cant wait to go back!

I just got a haircut by Mike & I gotta say he did an amazing job. I haven’t had a haircut in two years so my hair was really long but he was able to do the style that I wanted. I really recommend getting your haircut from Mike!

This is by far the best barbershop that I have ever been to in my life. Not only are the cuts outstanding but the ambiance is amazing! Everyone is super friendly and the conversation are always great. Roger is my go to barber but all the barbers are talented and friendly. This is a reservations only establishment but its super easy to make an appointment on their website. Highly recommended!

Good barber shop with professional barbers. Good atmosphere with friendly barbers and some music playing not too high but not too low in the background, just right. You can still hear your barber when yall are conversating, but it also wont be weird awkwardness when yall are arent speaking. It may not be the cheapest barber shop in SD, but it is one of the best. Im pretty picky where I get my haircut at as I dont like a messed up haircut, so Ive been to a lot of barbers all around SD and surrounding areas and no doubt, this is one of the best.

First of all way to overpriced for what you get. My barber did not listen to how I wanted my haircut and seems to now know how to cut hair the way the CUSTOMER wants their hair. WORST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE. Will never ever come back and am going to tell all my friends to never go here. Biggest waist of money I’m literally shaving my head at home because I’m embarrassed to have a haircut this bad.

I attempted to use this business. Had an appointment scheduled at 10:45 am on a Thursday. As I was driving on my way to the shop, I received a call at 10:30 am (15 minutes prior to my appointment) to inform me that my barber was not going to be able to make it in. They asked me if I wanted to reschedule, and I told them I need to look at my calendar but cannot because I was driving on my way to the shop. The man, oddly (imo), suggested that we could schedule my haircut once I get to the shop. I asked him if that means I can be slotted with another barber same day. He said no, theyre all booked up. I thought Why would I drive all the way to the shop just to make an appointment?? I already wasted time and gas en route, I didnt see the point of furthering that. The interaction seemed aloof, and I just felt I was being told Sorry man, but youre S.O.L. Granted, I have no idea what the reason is why my barber couldnt make it, but the shop made no effort to make any additional accommodations. I also find it ironic that customers have to cancel 24 hours in advance, but they can cancel 15 minutes prior, no problem. Im sure theyre good reviews are valid, but I leave this here for their consideration of what they might want to do differently in the future. End scene.Update/Response to Owner response:As much as I appreciate your response, I think it also correlates what I am trying to say. This was my FIRST time attempting to use your shop. I was not HIS client nor HIS appointment, as I didnt know the guy from Adam. I was a potential PAPPYS client. This was a Pappys issue that was passed on to the client. I find it unfortunate that calling to cancel the appointment was the only thing you guys could do. I wasnt looking for a handout, but if at the very least you would have offered me a 10% discount on my next haircut I would have felt valued as a customer for the inconvenience. Or even a free add-on to a regular paid service (which I probably would have declined but appreciated). So it has been over a year since my last professional haircut. My hair was turning into a mullet from trying to cut myself. Not that mullets are not cool as hell.As everyone should know you need to make an appointment online or by calling. Supper easy and you know who you are seeing and dont have to wait I have had concerns over going to a barber and getting a military style haircut because thats all they know. Not this place. Whenever i called to make an appointment, the person seemed very off I asked if there was any available appointments and they responded with yes thats it. They NEVER asked me what day I can make it in, What time I can be there, what barber I wanted.. The person was never pro-active about their services. It seemed like he didnt care about his job.I proceeded to make an appointment and the barber I received was very nervous and timid, I started to describe the hairstyle I wanted with photos and a detailed description and the barber was still very lostThe barber proceeded to ask me very personal questions, like Where I lIved, How old I was, What I did for work, Where I moved from it was all very strange to me, considering the fact that hes JUST cutting my hair, those questions were so irrelevant.

Sabrina was super sweet and made sure to make my teen feel comfortable for their first undercut! Cut a little off checked how my teen liked it and was totally ok going back in and cutting more off. Other barbers in the shop were also super friendly and engaged in conversation, good vibes throughout and the entire shop was VERY clean! Definitely will go back again!!

Tried to show barber a photo of what I wanted and explain to him a few modifications, but he cut me off mid explanation to keep lecturing me on what a high fade was. I gave up trying to talk, since he wouldnt listen, and just let him do whatever was on the photo.The cut was really fast, too fast, and he never double checked any of his work. He spent more time styling my hair than the actual haircut. It ended up looking good after all the styling, but that is where I messed up. I should have undone all his post haircut work and seen the real haircut.When I got home, not only was my hair cut completely different from the photo, but there were several chunks of hair 2 inches longer than the rest all throughout. I had to trim these pieces myself. Im not sure how they handle cutting hair around face masks for anyone else, but they sure didnt do that for me. How is one supposed to line their hair around their ears by themselves? I used a beard trimmer, but it wasnt pretty.I spent more money on this place for a cut that was on par with in-n-out chains that arent known for their quality. Save yourself the money, unless you like going here to brag you got an expensive haircut.Edit: I emailed owner with the information they asked about and was asked if I could remove my review due to covid financial hardships the business is experiencing. There may be other negative reviews that have been removed at the owners request due to reimbursement, sympathy, or other factors. Be cautious.

Ive been here a few time for cuts with Wayne and I always come out happy. There was even one time where I gave Wayne the wrong request and i was not happy with what i saw at the end. But he was able to fix it and i ended up really happy. This place costs more than what I was used to spending on a cut but so far i feel its been worth it. Theyre clean, professional, and i like the appointment system. Definitely recommend this place.

Pappys has been my go-to barber shop for years. Originally went to Deva who was the best barber I had ever found. My hair has bad cowlicks and over the years Ive had many bad haircuts from quick places that didnt take the time to cut it right. But everyone Ive been to at Pappys has done it right. After Deva moved to their other store location, Ive seen John for the past few years. And just yesterday John was out for my appointment so I saw Sabrina instead. She did a great a job as well just like John normally does. Everyone is super friendly, always offer you free drinks, and make you feel right at home. This will always be my go-to shop!

I have taken my 5 year old here numerous times to have his haircut by Sabrina and for the first time I brought my younger son. Sabrina is one of the only female barbers I have seen at a traditional neighborhood barbershops and she does a great job with my boys.All of the barbers are friendly and are very skilled. They always have complimentary beverages and candy for a treat for the little ones. They have adapted to the restrictions well as they just moved into a new space that is huge and allows for social distancing. This was my choice for my first professional beard trimming. Its a small joint that packs a punch. Everyone was super friendly.Roger was the gentleman who worked his magic on my mess of a beard. He took the time to ask what I was looking to do and offered a few suggestions. If I lived in the San Diego area, Id make regular appointments.Regardless of where you might be staying in the San Diego area, if you need some work done on your beard, Pappys is the place to go. I moved recently from Texas to San Diego. I havent cut my hair since the beginning of August. Im particular about my cuts and Im lucky to have found Pappys barber shop. Usually Ill end up trying two are three places before Im satisfied with the cuts. Not the case this time around. I got my haircut from Sabrina, she is great. I couldnt be happier with the way the cut turned out. I wasnt too sure how I wanted my hair due to how long its been since last I cut it. Sabrina was extremely helpful in my decision about how I got my fade and what to do with the top of my hair. I will definitely come back to Sabrina while Im living here in SD. Pappys over look and feel is great. I really dig this barber shop.

I was provided multiple drinks from the fridge free of charge, the retro aesthetic is so cool!Everything there was kept super clean, they observed social distancing and mask wearing, and I had great conversation with everyone. They are on the pricier side, but it IS during a pandemic and I cannot tell you a single thing I was not satisfied with about my experience, so it was very much worth it. They are a cash-only business, but they provide an ATM and the barbers have change for bills and coins. Will return for more!

There were 4 barbers there, they were all personable and professional. The patrons I observed all left with outstanding looking cuts. Shop is a great throwback to my visits to a barbershop as a kid. Loved it all, and they have a refrigerator stocked with sodas! The warm shaving cream and the neck and shoulder massage is a real plus! Mark is a great guy, enjoyed our conversation....he’s got a good sense of humor. He made suggestions and asked questions before he started the cut and I left very satisfied with the result. Pappy’s is hands down the BEST barber shop in SD! Very professional, clean hair cuts and beard trims. Great staff that has been there for a long time. Never had a bad haircut and have had 5 different people cut my hair over the years. Roger is great and my go to! A fantastic barber shop that I can’t say enough good things about.

Arrived 15 min early, was met outside by Jon. Checked in and sat at the table and chairs outside. Given hand sanitizer when I walked in.Sat down on a recently disinfected chair.Hair cut was flawless, and exactly what I wanted.Conversation was great and so was the atmosphere.Great all around.This is my new barbershop. Great experience.

The new shop is amazing!! There is a lot of room and very clean. Everyone is really friendly. I definitely recommend getting your hair cut at Pappys its a great experience.

Best haircuts in San Diego and in general. Coming from being a barber once to looking for a solid barbershop the last 7.5 years that Ive lived in San Diego, Pappys is by far the best shop Ive gone to yet. The last 3 years Ive gone to Pappys Ive been getting fresh fades from Roger. A couple things that I was looking for before only going to this shop was a good shop where the barbers care about the customer and the overall experience as well as hear what you want before cutting your hair. Thats what you get at this shop. Highly recommend and love that you can schedule appointments.
