Awesome service, but you need to call in advance. The barber is a highly skilled gentleman. He is very accommodating. The place is old but clean, and the barber sanitizes everything he uses. Good pricing too!

As someone who lives in downtown San Diego, let me tell you that a mens haircut isnt always the cheapest. 3rd Avenue Barbershop is the kind of place that doesnt focus on flash, or bells and whistles to get you in its door-it focuses on quality haircuts, at a reasonable price. Old school barber with great prices.His shop is located on 3rd between J and island.Parking is easy.His shop has a homey feeling .The man is a skilled barber able to do just about any cut a customer wants.He is not up on todays lingo for the different cuts.I highly recommend this barber.

Was in town for a convention and needed a trim. Found 3rd Ave and gave them a try. Gary did a great job and is the kind of small business we should all support. He carried a intelligent conversation and told me more about San Diego history then I had ever know before. The next 2 conventions will be in Denver but when we come back to San Diego Ill be going back to see Gary again.

This guy is not open at nine in the morning as posted on his door and on his Google plus page which he said he doest use. At around ten after nine when he arrived, he pointed to some hanging paper clock on the door which pointed to 9:30am. After I pointed out the conflict, he clearly didnt seem very concerned with any of it and said he needed to get breakfast before a 930 appointment. So, not only dose he not want to bang out a 10min hair cut for what ever he charges plus tip in lieu of breakfast, but he also wants to ignore his Google plus page.
