Always check the shops work people! I sadly experienced some shady behavior when I came here for an oil change April 15. I ended up waiting an hour and a half for my 2015 wrangler (car was taken in immediately). While waiting I overheard one of the technicians asking another technician about misplacing something. When I asked what the delay was they said they didnt have the filter they needed so had to send some one to Oreily. I thought okay great, at least theyre getting the right part for me - which they should have been able to see they had or not before servicing my vehicle. I watch one of the techs look over the engine block with a light appearing to be searching for something for a while. Anyways eventually my Jeep is finally ready to go, or so to say. THANKFULLY I checked under the hood, and they had failed to replace my engine cover, and I would have driven off with out it as it was left in the garage. The technician apologized and said he took over this oil change half way through and didnt realize there was one. Okay, fair enough, he replaced it and did a final look over (so I thought). I drive home and notice the hood wasnt shut right. I look over again - closer, and the oil cap isnt screwed in place - they had misplaced it under the hood - I believe this is what they had lost originally; they ultimately couldnt find it, switched technicians and just said it was good to go! I lucked out, but the cap could have been lost forever. Id like to give them another chance, but how can I even trust the work they do based on my experience?
I have been getting my oil changed at this Midas for years. They are consistent in pricing, efficiency and cleanliness. The moment we pull in to the moment we pull out and pay, you feel like your in a F1 pit stop, ‘they just get down business.’ Good people
I had the best service at Midas Pacific Beach.Excellent customer service. Job was done perfectly following all the Covid restrictions. I amvery happy I found this place and I will certainly go back
SCAM artists! Do not take your vehicle here! They ran a diagnostic on my 2016 Kia because I was having misfires on cylinders 1 and 4. So they tell me I need new ignition oils and spark plugs. Said the repairs would take 1 day and quoted me $1250, first red flag. I call around for estimates and those repairs anywhere/everywhere else were being quoted at $750. So I call and tell them I don’t want the repairs done there I will Go elsewhere, they then proceed to tell me I need a compression test on my engine… after they already said they knew the problem, 2nd red flag. I did not authorize any charges/repairs other than the $99 diagnostic. Picked up my car and took to the dealership and then the next day had a $1250 charge on my credit card from them.* response to the shops “rebuttal” : you saved me money?! You charged me for tests that did not need to be done, and over charged me for repairs I did not authorize. My car is at the dealership now and there is nothing wrong with the engine as you tried to state wirh the compression test that you only ran because I questioned you in the quote of $1250 for ignition coils and spark plugs when I got a quote for significantly less at another mechanic. And kinda funny that there is another review of EXACTLY the same thing. Nice try though…
I come in to Midas in PB all the time. I feel like family here. I am always greeted with a friendly face whether its Brooke or Mike at the front desk. Everyone is always willing to help with and explain everything. Mike and Brooke are very patient and make you feel very little pressure. For instance, the other day, I noticed a leak coming from the rear of my van. I immediately took it to Midas like I always do whenever I encounter an issue. After a complimentary inspection, they discovered a leak in the rear differential. They had it fixed within hours. The location of this shop is also excellent. Parking is really easy to find, and while youre waiting, you can grab a free coffee from their lobby and walk down to the beach-side shops and restaurants.
Came to get my brakes checked on a Saturday at 2, the owner told me they were closing four hours early that day. He said that he couldnt hear my brakes squeaking (didnt even turn down my music) but that if I came back the next Monday at 4 he would take everything apart to look. He also made sure to badmouth Valvoline before I left.I returned at the time he told me, against my better judgement, to find out that there werent enough technicians to even look at my car. Even though the shop was still open for hours.I laughed and got in my car when they started telling my another time to come back. Sorry, I think Ill find a shop that will actually look at my car.
I heard very loud noise coming from my brakes when I got to Midas in pacific beach they were busy but considering it’s a emergency they got me in and take care my car right awayVery professional and very reasonableThey didn’t try to take advantage of my problem
Amazing customer service! Helped me remove something that was lodged underneath my car that was making loud scraping noises. The service to fix the problem was quick.
Brooke is a great tech and service writer I’m very impressed with how she handles business upfront and then she did my oil change too I always use Midas for my services !
I really didnt needed brakes replaced so all I needed was an inspection.
I have made an appointment to get a muffler at 10 they didnt even start it yet I want to know what was wrong and the owner was very rude to me kicked me out of the shop literally and wouldnt finish or start the work that was supposed to be done because I questioned him I will never ever go back there again or recommend it to anybody
This Midas worked on my red Ford Mustang and did great work. Tony the mechanic is a nice man and a competent mechanic as well as a hard working guy. Mike the owner treated me like royalty and so did Marcos and all the staff really. I had my transmission replaced, which was expensive because another small mechanic shop in Keller, Texas designed my transmission to fail after servicing it and Midas took care of me. Midas also replaced my brakes, my radiator, my thermostat condenser, my air conditioning pipe hose. I had a lot of issues at once and Midas took care of me. My transmission and brakes I believe are under a warranty. Before leaving for Texas I had a full inspection performed for free and a oil change too. This Midas shop in Pacific Beach, California is awesome, but Pacific Beach the city itself and California the state is crazy ha. This Midas does great work and at a competitive price. What sets this Midas apart I believe is the friendly staff and owner, the professional and knowledgeable, competent service, and trust. You can not have a business if your customers do not trust you. Midas has my trust and I wish this Midas shop specifically was in Dallas, Texas.
Great quick service. Would highly recommend them!
They offer competitive pricing but I dont think they do as thorough of a job here than they do at some other places. Definitely no free extras here; you just get what you pay for, nothing more. That being said they still do a good job. The workers are very friendly. The waiting room is quiet and warm and they were finished way before they said they would be- no complaints there. The main reason they lost a star is because they parked my car without the e brake while in first gear (I have a manual transmission) so when I turned my key in the ignition, it immediately started rolling and came way too close to smashing into a car parked not even a foot in front of mine. Yikes.
These guys are awesome! They are very helpful, excellent customer service and they do great work. I can always trust them with my car... their service is quick and prices are very reasonable.
UPDATE: after leaving my review, the owner contacted me to follow up. I appreciate that! regrettably everything he said amounted to either, we couldnt have possibly made a mistake, or if a mistake was made, it wasnt our fault. He wanted to explain how he talked to his tech and checked the cameras, etc., all to support his desire to convince me that they are good and that I must either be mistaken or perhaps out of line. After establishing that mistakes were made, he went on to explain that he sent his smog tech home as punishment for leaving my car on and he explained that he told him not to come in until next week, going day by day to really sell the idea that he was punishing him aggressively. the thing is that they only do smog 3 days a week so the smog tech leaving and not returning until Thursday sounds to me like the owner let his smog guy go home early on the holiday weekend and him not coming in again until next week is just business as usual. I confronted him on that point and he played as if he hadnt just painfully explained all the days the guy wont be coming in to work. The truth is that if he simply said, We made a couple of mistakes but we are sorry. We normally strive to do better and although its regrettable that you experienced anything less than great, please know that my door is open and I want to personally make sure you get the best experience next time. Come see me if you ever have any concern in the future, and again thank you for choosing Midas, I would accept that people are prone to make mistakes but I would be excited about returning because the owner is involved and cares and took the time to contact me directly. Instead he proved to me that the real problem here is one of integrity and it starts at the top. Ive lowered my rating and affirmed that my feeling to avoid Midas in the future was the right one. I will not be back. I would suggest to anyone considering doing business here to consider that they may be great mechanics with the best deals in town, even still if something goes wrong and you have to deal with the owner, youre going to wish you went somewhere else. Save yourself the hassle and just go somewhere else!ORIGINAL:I came for oil change and smog inspection. I was required to leave and drive the car for smog because I recently had to replace the battery which caused the monitors to not be ready for the test. After driving the car and preparing the monitors, I returned for the test. It passed. I was rather disappointed to return to pick up the car and find that it was left with the key on in the accessory position and the radio and air turned on. My battery gauge shows low and it started but only barely. It shows a real lack of professionalism for a mechanic to fail to consider the charge level in a battery enough to simply remove the keys after completing their work. Additionally, I brought it in with a tire light on, figuring that since I was going two blocks to them for service, Id let them check and set the tire pressure and the light would go off without having to get my hands dirty. After I picked up the car, I noticed the light was still on. I checked the paperwork and the inspection showed they set all 4 tires to spec. I considered a sensor might be going bad. It turns out that the light was on because 1 tire was at 25lbs. After filling it myself the light went off. Basically it seems they charge the fees and give you paperwork but as far as working on the car they do as little as possible... Im a mechanic so its easy for me to spot an honest, hard-working professional and its easy to see when theyre not. I got the paperwork for smog and I assume fresh oil, which is what I paid and asked for but I expected something just a little more. Ill go somewhere else next time.
SCAM. ARTISTS. TL;DR, these guys tried to extract about $900 dollars in unnecessary services from me. Please read further for details:I do not ever write business reviews because I never feel strongly enough to do so, but my experience today has changed that. I brought my car in for a rough idle yesterday and was told that I needed to leave it overnight and pay for a $99 diagnostic workup. This amounted to extracting the OBD code (which can be done for free at OReilly just down the street). I was called this morning and told that I needed to replace all of my spark plugs and ignition coils at the price of ~$1,100, with the breakdown being ~$80 for labor, with the rest being attributed to parts, and that they would do a free fuel injector and throttle body cleaning. I asked why the parts were so expensive and I was told that it was because this car requires iridium spark plugs and they are very expensive, and that my car model (Toyota Corolla)for some reason required 2 plugs (or 2 coils? this part was unclear...) for each cylinder. I grew up doing some maintenance on my own car and my familys cars, and all of this was a bit suspicious to me (I knew it was 1 spark plug and 1 ignition coil per each of my 4 cylinders), so I started looking into how much these parts cost:Cost for 4 OEM spark plugs at OReilly: $27Cost for 4 OEM ignition coils at OReilly: $360Add in the proposed $80 cost of labor for a grand total of: $467... $633 less than what they proposed the job would cost.I pressed Mike on why the parts were so expensive, quoting the cost at the neighboring auto parts store, and he told me that they have to buy at an incredibly high markup. At this point I decided to just pick up my car and do it myself since I have tools, its an easy job, and OReilly was on the way. When I picked the vehicle up, Mike went on to explain how the cost of the free fuel injector and throttle body cleaning is actually wrapped up in the cost of the parts, and thats why the parts were so expensive. This is obviously a deceptive practice at face. I then asked if there was any way to tell which ignition coil was acting up, and he explained No, this is a general code and theres no way to tell. All ignition coils should be replaced. I looked up the code, P0302: Cylinder 2 Misfire - i.e. it is a problem with either the ignition coil or spark plug of the second cylinder (again... of 4 cylinders). There are codes P0301-P0308 for engines with up to 8 cylinders, and obviously the last number indicates the affected cylinder. So the whole pitch about having to replace all ignition cylinders was a lie.I went to OReilly down the street and bought my $27 set of 4x iridium spark plugs, and a single $90 ignition coil (both OEM) costing me a total of $117 (and after 30 mins of wrenching, completely solved the issue). While I was there I saw a Midas employee buying parts for a repair, so one could assume they paid a similar expense for parts. Again, assuming they would have bought all of the same parts I did, at the same cost, and I allowed them to replace all 4 ignition coils unnecessarily, the job should have cost $467. Subtract that from the proposed cost of the job, and they were overcharging me by $723 IF I just unwittingly said ok to replacing all 4 ignition coils. If they did the job that was actually needed (1 coil, and 4 spark plugs - and its hard to say if all spark plugs were necessary but theyre cheap and I dont know the last time they were replaced), I would have been overcharged by $903. For what? The fuel injector cleaning I was told I needed? Seafoam costs $8. Throttle body cleaning? Only labor there...So... attempted $900 overcharge (ignoring the $99 diagnostic). I understand money is tight for all businesses right now, but this was just absurdly unethical. I will never be taking my car here again.
These guys have been great for me. I have had various work done here in the ten years I have lived in PB. They have always given me great prices (I check around) and have done great work, never had an issue on their completed work.I do get some work done in other places, but the Midas in PB is always a mechanic that I used to compare prices with when it comes to my truck.
Went to Midas PB for a valve cover gasket change on my 2000 Jeep Wrangler. They gave me a fair price and did the job fairly quick. I would recommend this place to my family and friends.
Now I know why the poor reviews. Just rude. I walked in with an appointment all he told me was how it would take 1.5 hours for an oil change. If I had 1.5 hours, I wouldnt have made an appointment. I had no good feelings about this place. Maybe you should hire someone that greet the customers nicely. I just went a block down the street and got instant service. All I can say is wow. So, so rude. His response below seems to not address the main issue: He is just rude. I am the customer. There is a right way and wrong way to treat people. He may be a good mechanic, but not much of a people person. An oil change is not rocket science. I got a complete inspection of my car and an oil change at a place right down the street. Unlike his response, there are other qualified places in town that dont take an hour. They also treat customers better. Like I said, you might want to hire someone to be a buffer between you and the customer. I have been a loyal Midas customer for many, many years, but just not this shop.
I had a really uncomfortable experience at this location. I called and asks about an oil change and headlight. I was told to come in after 2pm. I asked how long it would take because I was traveling quite a distance to go here. I was told around 45 minutes. When I got there there was no where to park. I waited for a half an hour before I was even spoken to. I understand that happens a sometimes. Finally, when the owner he spoke to me, he told me that it would be a lot longer than 45 minutes because a couple of people had come in before me. This was confusing because I was told to come in after 2 PM. Id arrived there exactly at 2 PM. I was in the area earlier, but waited to come. Had I known that, I wouldve come sooner. He was pretty defensive and unapologetic. I ended up leaving. I cant speak to the quality of service there, because I didnt make it that far. I hope others dont have an experience like this. I wish he had told me on the phone that it is a first come first serve place, and not appointment based. I also wish he shared that it might take a lot longer than 45 minutes. Since I knew I had to get back to work, I never would have come. This was a very frustrating experience, because Ive gone to many Midas and I only had a wonderful experience is.
They wont install your own hardware
These guys are really on top of things. Had issues getting a smog check and they stepped in figured out the problem and got me on my way. Personable and time efficient. Just have to give them a chance and they will perform. Need smog, oil change or anything check these guys out first. Highly recommended.
This place is great..if you know 0 to nothing about cars this is your place and the guy to know is Eulise! Nice kind and will explain what you need and why...good prices. Wow ! For God sake Go
How do you put a value on peace of mind? All I can say is that I was so pleased with the Team at this particular Midas location, I had my son bring in his car the next day and will refer anyone I know there also. Bottom line...this is an honest repair shop with the skills to maintain my cars correctly and a strong eye on saving me money when possible.
I had a great experience getting my car diagnosed and repaired here. The mechanic Rich was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and the service representative was very friendly and helpful as well. They got me in right away for an appointment.
Bait and switch...went in for smog help on a jeep that was giving problems passing smog. I asked Mike about my options and if replacing the 02 sensors would correct the issue. He said yes and that I would need to drive 25 to 30 miles for the new sensors to reset the computer. I told them I was in a time crunch and I needed it same day Mike said no problem. After the repairs were completed I drove the vehicle over 30 miles taking it back only to find out that it still does not pass smog and even if it did there technician was gone for the day. I had then asked the manager what options I have and all he stated was you can try going somewhere else. Im not a difficult person and Im very understanding customer but false promises to make a sale are unacceptable.
Excellent service, clean place, they had me in n out within a great amount of time. Recommended indeed! *thumbs up*
I had some issues with my car the other day so I stopped by this Midas to see what they could do for me. They were very friendly and told me exactly what was wrong with my car. After they gave me a quote I called around a couple other places but those places said they would charge me $150.00 more than them. They fixed the issue with my car within an hour and I was on my way. I will definitely be back to this Midas.
Amazing service! I’ll definitely be coming again. This is officially my go-to place.
I took my car today to the Midas on Garnet and had them check my brakes. They offered to do inspection at no cost. My car didnt need brakes just adjustments. The service was great and they had me out in less than an hour.
I took my car there for an oil change. Not only they finished it quickly they also made sure my tires were checked and all the fluids were topped off. Service was great and I will go back there again.
Great job getting me back on the road! Quick service and an honest accessment of what my car needed.
I went there Last Week to do the rear brakes on my BMW. I liked the quality of their work and how fast they did my brakes. I would go there again and recommend it to my friends and family
I called and got an appointment the same day. The service was performed quickly despite the place seeming to be packed! They called me and emailed me when the service was complete and it was easy to pick up! Thanks!
I recommend this Midas for great and fast service. i took my tacoma to the dealer and they wanted $700 to fix my window regulator. i brought it to these guys in PB and they fixed it for half the price. i know where I will be taking my truck next time
Went here because I got a coupon for my oil change and I also had to replace the gas filter. At first the manager was really cool, he talked to me like a bro and discussed the things I want to fix. He told me it was going to take 30 minutes, but NOPE it took 2 hrs. They changed the oil fast, but did not tell me about the gas filter. In the mean-time, the guy found lots of problems and told me that I can fix them and cost $700. I declined and he just said well Im the doctor and you can pick what to fixPaid and left, will not come here again.
My muffler was making some noise and took my car to this Midas muffler place. The service writer was very thorough and gave me a really nice explanation on what my cars problem was. He also gave me a couple of options to correct the problem. But it came down to a new muffler. They got the car repaired and with all the add ons the total cost was a little on the high side.
They overcharge, are expensive, usually wait is much longer than they promise, honesty is questionable. Emergency auto care will cost a lot more
Honest and reliable. As a girl, I felt very comfortable going to this place to fix my car.
Awesome and professional work.
I went to the Midas store yesterday for a brake job, I was impressed by the service writer and his honesty, I did not feel that he was trying to plus sell me on things the car doesn’t need. I would recommend this location highly.
Fast. Friendly. Efficient. Definitely recommend. The customer service is great.
Quick and efficient service and wonderful customer service! I will definitely be back!
I took my 2012 beetle to Midas for a smog and the technician was really good. he fixed the small vacuum leak i had and i was able to pass the smog test and get my plates renewed.
Great service, there people in side were very kind and help full.
This place has so much potential. Simple shop doing simple maintenance at good prices. However, the guy (owner?) is really a jerk. I went twice and I thought the guy was just having a bad day but my wife went there the next week and she came back and told me the same thing. When I went back the second time for one last try, he was just as unpleasant as the first. We just went for an oil change and it seems they did a good job but I will never go back no matter how good the prices. Guy is just very unpleasant to deal with.
I will always come to this place with my car, best place, best service.
New to the area and i drove over a pot hole i was so upset i went to the nearest place and it was midas in pacific beach, they immediately fixed my tire and has me on my way!great customer service guys !
Best experience ever!!!!! Love this place! Wont go anywhere else
Except for being 20 min late to open, they treated me well and did the job quick.
The gentleman at the counter was not very friendly but the real issue was the quote was very expensive. Go to Dualtone exhaust instead. Its 5 minutes away, they charged me $300 less, were very polite and literally had me on the ramp in 2 minutes.Trust me.
They were great! Will definitely keep going there.
Im a student so I needed to go to a place cheap and nearby. The midas PB location recently has new management, and the man at the front was very nice and made sure I was happy with the work done on my car. Its also located near a bunch of stores like Vons, Chipotle, and CVS so its very convenient.
Great customer service!Fast service and friendly.
They take care of a fleet of my stuff trucks cars wakeboard boat,, they rock!!!!!
I needed an oil change done for my car because it was due for a while. After looking at many places around PB being shady as hell or closed based on reviews, I decided on here.Pros: Cool guys working there, did the oil change decently fast and for 25 dollars for my Scion XB. Very knowledgable staff and were open and honest in showing me everything that they were doing. For a strictly oil change trip, very good for the price.Cons: Not much to say since its mostly my fault for asking the guy working on my car to keep an eye out for anything else just in case, but they informed me my filters needed changing asap and that my windshield wipers needed to be changed immediately or theyll scratch my windshield. (This was on a rainy day.)Theyll try to upsell you a little bit but its expected sort of in a way. I cant really fault them for trying being a salesman myself.4 stars from me for being knowledgable and very helpful and swift working, just be cautious of the fact that youll probably get talked into paying more, although in my case it being highly recommended anyway to do it quick simply because I have a long commute anyway. Id come back given the circumstances for my next oil change.
These guys stayed open late for my smog test. How great of service is that!?
BEWARE indeed!I also got the 3 oil change deal on groupon and came for my first one. The older gentleman was extremely pushy and aggressive which made me feel uncomfortable. Stupid me came back to buy 4 tires + alignment and use the $50off coupon, they sold me only 2 and told me the coupon was for 4 tires. I told them that i DID want to buy 4 tires and the older gentleman simply told the lady in the office (Beth) to split the discount. They only sold me 2 despite me wanting 4 and gave me a $20 discount but yet voided the $50off coupon I had. When my fiance called to complain Beth on the phone simply said they did not know we wanted 4 tires and that they voided the $50off coupon because they gave us $20 only for buying 2 tires......?!?!?!?!They did not chose to make any resolution just apologized and wished we would come back.....I dont care if I throw the money I spent on the groupon deal away, I am giving away this coupon sheet and NEVER coming back to this location.
Very good service with a caring touch. Will go back.
Poor customer service. Very rude.
DO NOT GO HERE!!! WARNING THE SHITTEST MECHANICS IN ALL OF SAN DIEGO. BEEN WAITING 3 MONTHS NOT A SINGLE CALL BACK OR UPDATE. WASTED MY TIME FOR THIS LONG. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE BUSINESS THEY ARE HORRIBLE AT THEIR JOBS.
Unclear communication. Causing more money spent, and more time wasted. Never again
Took longer than he and I paid for an inspection on what I told him was wrong.
I had a nail in my tire, late for work and stopped there, they took care of it t help me out and get to work as I was already super late and later take my tire to be replaced, they saved my day!
Got a very high priced quote and called another shop nearby who quoted 200$ cheaper
Told me to require maintenance that wasnt necessary. Dishonest.
Did what they said. Smog check
Love this place
The service was excellent they are bilingual ask for ulyses the exceptional technicians Phong was a great help even though it is almost closing time. They treated me very well. Recommended for all your automotive services
