Probably the best Navy Hobby Shop Ive been to yet. Service could be better, but they have all the tools youll need and dont interfere at all. I was able to get in, do my maintenance, and get out with ease.
Fantastic place to maintain and upgrade your vehicle. Seriously, this place is a gold mine for the mechanically inclined. Car lifts, tire rotation, welding, you name it. Ive saved myself THOUSANDS of dollars in labor cost by the resources provided which goes a long way for the junior enlisted. The staff are knowledgeable as well. If you have any questions they can most likely answer them.
Very helpful. First time going to this shop and first time changing out transmission fluid. They showed me how to use the lift, gave me all the tools I needed, and when I needed help or if I ran into an issue they were there to help. Definitely better to come here and do your own work and have some help than be charged who knows how much by a dealership or mechanic.
This is a great resource for sailors provided by Navy MWR. Unfortunately it goes without the proper funding to keep the facility maintained. Auto skills centers on most installations are in much better condition. Its shame.
Best secret in town
Huge location, but they monitor every little thing. Like, 1 rag at a time and they are already dirty and oily. Thats different than the other locations Ive used. They could use more variety of wrenches and sockets. Also, one of the short guys that issues tools and does rotors has a bad attitude. My first time there, he started fussing and yelling saying how hard is it to freakin turn in the sheet before working. He wasnt fussing at me, but when I parked, no one told me to turn in my sheet either. Huge lack of customer service. I understand if you were prior military and probably a chief or higher.....but you are NOT in the military anymore. You are NOT entitled. Respect is earned, not given! On a good note, the rest of the employees were very helpful and plenty of spaces available.
Very unprofessional customer service from the shorter guy who randomly shouts out nonsense throughout the day; hell even play around on his phone at the tool request table while youre standing right in front of him. One time, after asking for assistance, he walked away and said some things in another language to two other Asian customers who laughed in the stall next to mine; Im sure he said something about me. Ive been to this shop a few times, and he always has the same cranky attitude. Id like to take him out back and give him some corrective training. All other staff members are helpful and respectful. Equipment is good and the attached auto store has competitive prices for oils, parts, etc.
Good place for do it yourself auto work. Plenty of lifts for oil changes or chassis work. Plenty of stalls for other work. Jacks, jack stands, tools available with stall rent. Stalls are rented out by the half hour. Small auto parts mini store in facility. Attendants are not always very attentive, if you need help you need to actively flag someone down otherwise they will not interfere. Closed toed shoes and long pants are required to work in the facility, other PPE is recommended but not enforced.
I called this location ahead of time to make sure they had the tools and equipment I needed to replace my headlights, tire and do an oil change. The guy on the phone assured me they had everything I would need. He even told me not to worry because I would be in good hands. I show up and it was just a disaster. The people working there arent very knowledgeable. I had to describe tools to them because they didnt know them by name. They didnt have the tools for me to do an oil change or change a tire. Even though I wasnt able to do any maintenance work on my car because they didnt have any of the tools they assured me they had, I was still charged for using the space. It was a waste of money and my day off. I suggest you do this in your garage with the help of some youtube videos or find a good mechanic. Good Luck!
DIY auto shop located at 32nd St base. They have lifts, both indoor and out, and also covered spots for rent for those long-term projects. Plenty of tools available, and the staff is willing/capable of helping you if needed.
