Matador Men’s Grooming is a regular staple of my life. Being that my head is oddly shaped, I ask them things like, “Is it possible to shave your own neck hair?”, and the “boys wanna go retro-Will Smith style today” they are always up for the challenge! You know it’s men’s grooming at it’s finest when the first words greeting me through the door are: “Josh Let me check your temperature.”, followed by, “What kind of beer do you want?”. COVID-19 has been hell on hair-cutting establishments across San Antonio. With all that has been happening, this local gem finds itself isolated on in our post-apocalyptic downtown. They were personally referred to me by the concierge at the prestigious Valencia Hotel. Skip suburban Cost-Cutters (this place is like 10 bucks more) and please god if you just finished watching a YouTube on how to cut your own hair; DON’T DO IT! Matador Men’s Grooming instead.

A little bit of old meets new. A classic style barbershop with all of the extra amenities to help anyone feel right at home.They offer several services aside from a classic cut. Razor fades, hair coloring, waxing and a variety of other beard grooming options.Their website is very user friendly to make appointments or you can call in to make an appointment.My barber Mesha was amazing. The haircut was the best Ive had in a while and she even washed and massaged my scalp. She was so professional and courteous that by the end, it felt like I just talked to an old friend.This is a must stop for anyone in the San Antonio area. And even more so for a traveler looking for a good quick cut in the downtown area.

Called to ask if they had a last minute opening and instead of politely saying “no sorry” or a “maybe I can book you for another time” She hung up on me.I’m the kind of person who’s willing to pay anything for a good fade so idc about the price but seeing some reviews about their act towards customers tells me that maybe I should just let these people go and give some other barbershops a try.

I was in town for work and needed a cut. I found this place as it was walking distance from my hotel. The shop manager Priscilla was fantastic! Humorous, professional and super kind. The other stylist was super friendly and we all had a good conversation the whole gime. The shop was extremely clean, they took my temperature and was limiting the flow of people. The cut was 100%. I just got a haircut from this place earlier today. I called them in advance and Jason booked me into their system without any questions. As you can see from the photo, Jason did a great job on my haircut.Additionally, I was greeted with respect and even offered a beer while I got a cut. Unfortunately, I was on lunch break so declined a brew, but it was very nice to be offered one.Im knocking two stars off because of their establishments rundown look. Boxes were all over the place and curtains attempted to hide bunched up barber chairs and office furniture that looked a million years old. Granted they were in the process of moving, and Ill possibly adjust the review after I get a cut at their new place.Great Clips price this was not. My cut was 45$, which was pretty steep. However, it was a downtown barber shop, so I paid for that convenience.That being said, being greeted as a friend, and getting a great haircut has made me want to return in the future. Other chain haircut shops should take note.

She pays very close attention to detail and provides great feedback and suggestions. For the services they provide, the price for a cut is very reasonable. I have found my new go to spot for a fresh, clean haircut!

The place is great in my experience it is pricey but worth it. The first time I went was good with a nice lady barber. Second time was great she was skilled (different lady). Third time guy barber very talkative and friendly great experiences. If you want to look good and stay fresh this is the place to go but if your are cheap dont come here.

I would give Matadors five stars but the downtown location doesn’t have designated parking or a discount agreement with nearby parking lots.The staff is fantastic and Matador did a good job on their recent renovations.The staff know how to cut hair the right way and having a nice cold beer isn’t the worst way to spend an hour.

This place is unlike any other. Really great haircut. Awesome shave and beard shape up. Next time I’m in San Antonio I’ll be back!

The haircut was good and the customer service was great. The only problem was the price and pace. The experience here is almost more like a spa than a barber. It took almost 90min to get a haircut and beard trim and cost more than $60. Probably worth it if you dont care about the time or money.

I was a little worried with the posted reviews, but was pleasantly surprised with how well they did. They bring you an Ive cold mug of beer right to your chair. The stylist did exactly what I wanted and took her time in doing so to ensure a job well done. I would definitely go back.

Well it was my first shave and cut in the US and I dont have anything to complain about. It was a great experience and the stylist took her time and did a very good job. I dont know what others who negatively comment about this place compare it too, but it is a no cry place and offer a good service for the price.

Greeted by a receptionist who wasnt friendly. I only wanted a line up & slight fade on the sides because I couldnt go to my regular barber. I asked since Im not getting a full service cut if the price could be dropped. She walks off to go ask Im assuming the manager. I shouldve asked before she started cutting because she comes back saying its a set price. She then uses a regular disposable razor to shave my neck. I ask about a straight razor but its an additional $10. To top it off I paid for parking to go there. Dont even bother unless you dont mind wasting your money. On the positive, the lady cutting my hair was nice. Forgot her name but she said she had only been there about 3 weeks.

This place was not what some of the reviews made it out to be. The girls here were very professional and offered me a beer (ice cold) before they started. The barber was very thorough and even cleaned up my eyebrows at no extra charge. Give this place a try and you wont regret it.

The girls were very helpful, and treated me well. Offered me a beer 3 times (I was on a break from work). Towel wrap and head massage were very relaxing. They used a razor on my neck. Its not a quick haircut, and certainly isnt intended to be. More of a pamper yourself experience. Highly recommend and will be back!

I went for a professional cut, they were very respectful and took good care of me in terms of the hot towel and neck massage. From the front it looked like a great cut but my buddies pointed out there was no blending whatsoever, missing patches, and uneven lines in the back. Im saddened to write this as I thought I was gonna get the best haircut of my life, that was not what happened.

My son and i went for a cut and trim my son was able to get a hair cut but they skipped me twice and I was never offered a beer but those who walked in after me were. All i wanted was my very first line up on my beard since ive just started growing it out. For the price didnt really care just as long as it came out good but guess ill never know. And the only reason why I went was because I thought it was an old school barber shop its not and having to pay for somewhere to park.... never going again

Be aware----this place is now called Matador but nothing has changed: ridiculously average haircuts at outrageous prices. These people shouldnt be charging anymore than $10 per cut based on their work.Really nice folks but Im never going back.

Had my beard trim today for the first time. It was an awesome experience the guy doing it was great. I am terrible with names but I think it was Renee. I would definitely recommend it.

I was visiting from out of town (Washington, DC) and needed a haircut. My stylist was Chris and was fantastic. Very professional, thorough, attentive to detail. One of the very best. If I lived in San Antonio, this would be the only place I would go for a haircut.

Incredibly relaxing, methodical, king-like treatment. Yeah, it aint cheap, and my regular is el cheapo, but this was a slow, luxurious experience I havent ever gotten in America. I think if I was a famous outlaw in the Old West Id have put the bag of gold on the counter and hoped for something like this.

Matador Mens Grooming is a really nice hair salon for men located downtown Ive gone there several times to get my haircut during my lunch and the people there have been very kind and the service is there includes a haircut hot towel shampoo you can also get other services like beard trim .the place is great and worth going to . the price might be a little high for some people youre looking at about $40 haircut so be prepared

My hubby was there a couple of weeks ago. Charged him 70 bucks for a jacked up fade and a nice mcdonalds arch line on his hairline. Of course I was not happy at all with this. Very overpriced. Never again. Never again.

From years old reviews this place sounds disappointing, but I was just there and found it to be amazing. I was offered a free beer, soda or water when I arrived. I then got a great haircut and beard trim. Straight razor neck job in the front and back since I got the beard done too. Excellent customer service and a cool looking place. They do have a pool table and a selection of mens interest magazines like Maxim, GQ, etc. It is pricey at $30 a haircut and $20 for beard service, but the quality is top notch. This is no Sports Clips or Supercuts. I will definitely be back.

Absolutely terrible service, big guy cutting my hair was everywhere like he was cutting weeds not a head. Guy seemed irritable several times when I pointed out things I didnt like. Horrible service and way over priced. Could of gone to another hair cutting salon for $13 bucks, but instead went to this based on a friends suggestion. Paid $29 and change! Flat awful!
