Instead of making me wait the few days it might take to be seen because they were so busy, they sent me to Glens Key Shop to fix my specific car issue. They were so kind and good to me and I could see that they were thinking of everything for me. That its not just about the money. Thank you!
No issues, prompt service, honest people, great location. I came here to have some fluids changed and they did an excellent job. Will return in the future.
Wow!! Wanted to take the time to write this review because i had the best experience. This place was able to squeeze me in and Mike was incredible and the service was amazing! Chris helped me towards the end show me a few things i had questions about! Going to recommend this place to all my Salt Lake City friends! I’ll definitely be back because the customer service was incredible! Thanks Mike and Chris for all your help!
If only every shop was this good. Highly recommended. The dealership had told me to fix somethings that didn’t need fixing. I’m so glad this guys are honest.
Two of my fans failed and my car overheated. Once it cooled down I was able to drive it over to Slaughs. The mechanic listened to me as I explained what happened, and what I thought might be wrong with the vehicle based on sounds it was making, etc. They diagnosed it for free and fixed it up quickly and for cheaper than I thought it was gonna be. Good communication and didnt try to upsell me on any other fixes. Will be coming back for future repairs.
Helpful and reliable local mechanics. Have gone to them for registration, emissions, and multiple repairs and have always been pleased.
I have been going to Slaughs auto care for 13+ years. They are amazing. They call and tell you a cost before preforming work if they find something that needs to be fixed besides what you have asked for. They are honest and so very nice to work with.
Seem like honest local boys to me. Definitely pricey, but not overpriced. Had them do my emissions testing. They were fast and simple. Had a decent convo with the older gentleman at the front desk.
These guys were great. I needed some help with some electrical work and they got me taken care of.
Excellent always! Great work and staff! Thank you Mike and staff🤗
Mike was very personable and the work was done in a timely manner and of good, honest quality.
I have been bringing my car to Slaughs Car Care for about 5 years. They do an honest efficient job with my car. My car is in good hands and I am so grateful I found them! Thank you!
This place aint cheap! In fact they ask top dollar for their work - but thats just it - they do top-notch work! Well worth the sticker-shock. Been coming here for about 20 years now and theyve never steered me wrong. My Mom was probably coming here 20 years before me. She recently passed away or Id ask her. She turned me on to them before the Olympics came here and I have been a loyal customer ever since. It seems a lot of their customers feel the same way.. I see a lot of familiar faces almost every time I go. Expensive? Yes, but for the quality of workmanship and honest repair quotes you get it will save you $ in the long term.
Fast, friendly, honest repair shop.
They WILL try to scam you with $50 lightbulb replacement
Excellent service! I called on a Thursday requesting an appointment. Unexpectedly there was availability for Friday morning. My vehicle was repaired by 5pm the next day for what I considered a catastrophic issue. I was familiar with the common issue with my vehicle. Slaugs was knowledgeable on the issue and my vehicle was repaired in a timely and cost efficient manner.
Slaugh’s is amazing. I completely trust their diagnosis and prices. They work really fast and always take the time to explain the problem. Especially since I drive an older car, I appreciate having someone who makes sure it’s all running like it should.
They are so nice and helpful! I just wish they were open Saturday or Sunday, but i plan my visits around that and its fine.
Mike and Chris are excellent to work with. They always call with an update on the situation and confirm next steps. They do great work (never had an issue ever) and they complete work when they estimate they will. I genuinely trust their shop. 10/10 recommend if youre looking for someone you can trust with your vehicle.
Moved here from Texas and the Utah cold killed my battery. Driver from AAA didnt have needed replacement battery on truck so he recommended Slaughs. Great recommendation! Slaughs was able to replace my battery in no time and even tested the old one to ensure that was the issue before charging me for new one. Staff were very nice and professional. Mike (the owner) was there and knew his regular customers by name. Will definitely go back if future car work is needed
The best mechanic Ive been too.
I would highly recommend Slaugh’s Car Care. I have been there multiple times and every time they have been incredibly friendly and genuine. Very honest about what work should be done and what can wait. I’ve never felt pressure to from them to spend extra mo et on things I don’t need. They’ve kept my old 2000 CRV up and running for years and they do a great job!
This is the best mechanic in SLC hands down! Tried the cheap options like Big Os Tires and others, but they do not care as much as the Slaughs team. Mike is THE MAN and can help you with any car problem. Only going to Slaughs Car Care from now on.
I dropped it off in the morning and it was done by noon!
Good job on the tires for the Mercedes and particularly good job in diagnosing the problem with my camaro.
Mike was great from Slaugh’s Car Care. We had just flown into SLC from vacation but couldn’t go home because our car started acting weird. The first place we called said they were booked until after Thanksgiving. Mike had a full garage already but because we were from Idaho and needed to get back. He made it a point to squeeze us in, guaranteed that he’d have it fixed by 5:00 that night and get us back on the road. This won me over immediately. He was very helpful informing me about what was wrong and got our car fixed within a few hours. The price was reasonable, considering our situation we couldn’t really go somewhere else, but i was fine with the cost. Didn’t try to up sell me or anything. I’d recommend them again to people looking for a great mechanic.
Fixed my problems quickly, called to quote prices before buying parts, honest, fast, what else is there?
Had my wheel pop off and lucky they were near by, the owner has a great personality and has lots of car knowledge. Eased my situation and are now fixing my car. They gave me a sense that my car is in good hands. Ill keep this review updated soon for the final results.
Took my car in for help replacing a rear hatch button. I brought in my own part and they treated me with respect and kindness, unlike most auto shops that automatically speak down to me as a woman. The honesty and fair prices mean that Ill return for oil changes and other work I need done.
We trust Slaughs, appreciate their professionalism and timeliness. We strongly recommend them.
Mike Slaugh runs a tight ship and he is the mechanic I trust the most of anyone in Salt Lake City. He is honest, fair, knowledgeable and he cares. If you want good work, straight talk and fair prices come here.
I LOVE this mechanic shop and the mechanics! Took my car in for an oil change and windshield fluid and was out in 15min! My tires were also bald and they ordered them and will be getting new tires tomorrow morning! Thank you for your hard and honest work! Your my go-to mechanic!
Ive been to this shop twice. The first was to run the codes for my check engine light. I didnt hear from them all day until they called to say the car was ready--they had fixed the problem without ever telling me what the issue was. I just came back to a $300 bill and was told I was lucky it wasnt pricier (Agreed). I wrote it off, blaming myself for not specifying I wanted them to call me before I did the work. A few months later I went back in for an oil change. I told them VERY CLEARLY, if they did any work above and beyond an oil change I wanted them to call me first. Sure enough, I go to pick up my car and im greeted with a $150 bill because they changed one of my filters. If theyd called I would have told them I was able to do the service myself. I expressed my disappointment and was told they could take the new filter out and put my old one back in if I kept my car in their shop an extra day. I declined because I just wanted my car back. Still on the hunt for an honest car shop that wont take advantage of me just because Im a young woman who looks like an easy target. I will not be returning.
We were here from out of town and had car trouble. They got us in and fixed up quickly and reasonably priced. Friendly service and super accommodating!! Really appreciated their help and honesty.
This is a great place for any vehicle maintenance you may need. It is located in a great area and the employees are friendly and very helpful. They are fast and efficient! I would definitely recommend coming here for anything you need done on your vehicle. I know I will be.
Do not take your car hereI took my daughters 2003 4WD 4Runner there after reading all the good Google reviews. They did the work timely and Im sure the workmanship is fine. They charged me an arm and a leg for the parts though. They replaced two front wheel bearings and charged me $397.00 each for just the parts. My local Toyota dealer sells them for $217.00. They actually charged me 183% more for the parts than Toyota would have. I challenge anyone to find wheel bearings that cost more anywhere on the web. I couldnt. All the good reviews I read were from locals who have been going there for years. They took one look at my out of state plates and GAME ON!It speaks to character. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and move on.
Fast and mindfully scheduled
I will be using these guys every time I need something. Extremely honest and fast. They dont try and get every nickle and dime from you. I had a check engine light come on for no reason and then go off right before I got to their place. They still looked at the car and werent able to find anything and didnt try to tell me all sorts of stuff was wrong like a usual mechanic.
Honest work. I once came here to get work done and was quoted several hundred dollars for a repair. However, I got a call back shortly after saying that the faulty part was one they had previously installed and was therefore covered by a warranty. The fix was free. They didnt have to tell me, I would not have known better, but they were honest. My car has been great since and they earned a loyal customer.
We had a very positive experience with our drop-in for our Accord, which began showing trouble the day before. The service was quick and reasonably priced. The gentleman who called halfway through for the needed repair was forthright and helpful. No additional services were pushed. The repair was well-done and we got the car back the same afternoon. We will be returning for future needs.
Mike and his team delivered where a dealership failed. Honest, knowledgeable and going the extra mile - All the qualities that dealership lacked. Best example of an independent car shop. Please support your outstanding neighborhood mechanics!
They are so great.
Mike and his crew have taken great care of our vehicles for many years.
Theyre literally best. Im always confident theyre taking good care of me and my cars. Very easy-going and trust-worthy.
Got brakes and rotors done around Halloween. Very fair price, quick work, friendly and professional service. Im about to go back and have mine and girlfriends new tires mounted ($5 cheaper than Big O per tire, btw)
A more honest mechanic cannot be found. Ive been going to Slaughs Care Care for years and have been continually floored by their service and fairness. Ive referred many people to Slaughs and they all come back impressed and tell me theyve found their new permanent mechanic! One referral I gave said it best, they just exude honesty.Let Mike take care of you. You wont be sorry!
They kept good care of my car and they were very fair and professional.
AMAZING.I do a lot of my own work on my cars Cv joints tie rod ends radiators brakes etc. I am no mechanic but am very cautious of others. I hit a curb So I took it over to mikes since I live close. He gave me a call and explained what he thought should be done and what he thought didnt have to be done right away. I told him my budget was low because of some dentist work and I could do it and bring it back to have them check it and align it for me. He gave me a few tips about doing it my self. I also had him check some oil Leaks. Even After I told him I am comfortable doing it he was helpful and just asked what he could do or let him know if I need help. I asked him what I owed him for looking at it and he told me not to worry about it. I have had plenty of experience with mechanics to know when I see a good one. I will take all my future car work here if I am always treated the way I was. I understand he has a business to run but If he can be honest and save me money when he can then Ill gladly par for future things that I cant or dont have time to do and know I am in good hands. Thanks mike!
Great guys. Honest, reliable and professional. My car died on the freeway at night and I had it towed to Slaughs after hours. The NEXT day Slaughs had the car repaired and ready to pick up. They are life savers. Definitely recommend these guys.
It is so nice to have an honest neighborhood garage to take my car too. They have always done right by me. The owner, Mike, is very personable and professional.
These guys gave me a fair price on the fix they performed and even through in a free tire balance,.. although I did spend 1300$
My husband and I have taken our cars toSlaughs car care for many many years now, and have found them very kind people and very accommodating. No gouging of the prices and very fair. They are very professional when taking care of our cars and very dependable.Arlene Liechty-Salt Lake city, Utah
We have been taking our vehicles to Slaugh’s for over two decades. We trust Mike and his team completely. Prices are always fair. Quality of work is always excellent. We recommend Slaugh’s to our friends and family.
Always take good care of me and very friendly .
This place is great. They’re honest and communicate with the customer before doing anything. Upfront about prices and very personable.
Slaughs has treated me great time and time again. This is the first auto shop I have ever fully trusted and felt right about in my gut. They told me they charge a bit more hourly compared to other shops yet this place has saved me hundreds of dollars when quoted the same job by Burt Bros. Slaughs also guarantees their work up to 10,000 miles.
I own an Audi and with it being a German car, the repair and service of the vehicle tends to be a bit pricey. I accepted that as a fact when I purchased it. Mike and his crew are seriously amazing though. Whenever I have a problem, theyre my go-to people. Just to put it into perspective-I HAD to go to the Audi Dealership and replace my key and asked them if they could replace my license plate bulb. (I had already purchased it but just couldnt get the plate off myself) And once I picked up my key was told it was $68 for the bulb replacement and oh, by the way, it actually might be the socket because the light is still out I was really appalled. Never had an issue with that with Mike and his crew. Theyre knowledgeable and when theyre not-theyll tell you. I think this business exemplifies how others should operate and conduct themselves when it comes to mechanical repairs.
My nieces car would not start for her so she left it abandoned at Chuck-a-Rama near Slaughs. I had a spare key (just in case) so I went to her car the next morning and it started right up for me. Not wanting to take chances, I drove her car straight to Slaughs. After a thorough check up, they said, Nothing was wrong. And, they didnt charge a single penny to help us out. Later, when the car wouldnt start for my Niece, I realized what the issue could be and asked her Did you break your key recently? And, yes, her transponder key had fallen apart and her key did not have the chip. Slaughs was right all along. With a working key, nothing was wrong her car. Talk about an honest mechanic--they could have changed all kinds of filters, electronics--maybe even the tires, and I wouldnt have known any better. Instead, no charge and they have earned a new family of customers thanks to their honest assessment. Thanks Slaughs.
Great repair service. Two suggestions. Ask them to make sure and lock your doors for over night. And you or have them heck the fuse box. I dont think its their doing. BUT, after they did a repair. They noticed a part was not working. They wanted to charge $500.00 for parts and labor. I checked the fuse box and noticed a missing fuse. $4.00.
Mike and his team are great. Always fast, transparent about pricing, and easy to work with.
Amazing service! These guys are fair, quick, and efficient. Very communicative, let you know the prices and about different options. I have an older car, which it doesnt make much sense to put a lot of work into. Theyve kept it running for the last 6 years Ive lived in SLC, without pushing any more expensive work that isnt worth it onto me.
Guys are total homies. They informed me not to buy a used car that would have otherwise been a huge pain. As far as my anecdotal experience goes, they do good work for an honest pre purchase inspection.
You can always count on Slaughs. Easy to deal with (Mike is great), fast and service you can count on. My mysterious noise problem was quickly solved. A visit to the car dealer would have taken most of my day, but this visit was one hour--in and out! Thanks to Mike and team.
This is a GREAT choice for your auto repair needs. My daughter is a student at the U of U and was in need of some repair work. Mike (the owner) was GREAT to deal with. Honest and more than fair to deal with. A+++ all the way!
Ive been going here for several years now and Mike and his crew are great - easy to talk to, trustworthy, and always fair with their pricing. If you are looking for a mechanic you can trust, check out Slaughs. So far theyve helped with regular service, diagnosing tough issues (intermittent starting eventually tracked to the fuel regulator), safety/emissions testing & inspections, and tire shopping. Their close to a TRAX station, too, which makes it easy to drop off the car for the day and still get to work downtown.
Great experience! We needed a battery replaced, but Mike and team noticed that our battery was likely still under warranty with a different provider. Eve ln though we werent his customers, Mike made sure that our battery was replaced and we were good to go. Mike is an incredibly professional and kind person.
Mike is always very courteous and professional. The shop does great work and in a timely manner. I highly recommend Slaughs. I have been taking my cars to him for many years now and have no complaints.
Honest, ethical, and friendly people. This is my new go to mechanic, and Ill be recommending them to friends and family as well.
Excellent, honest, trustworthy mechanic shop. They take great care of my vehicles with affordable prices. We have been taking our vehicles to Slaughs Car Care for at least 15 years. Its nice having an honest mechanic with such great service in the neighborhood.
My 28 year old AMC Eagle broke down at the Del Taco a few blocks down and I got it towed to these guys. They took care of my car that day and got it running again. Theyve been here forever and everyone I talked to who knew about them had only good things to say!Ive brought my car in insisting I heard noises and that something had to be broken only for them to report back that nothing was actually wrong and they couldnt find anything to charge me for. They couldve made something up and charged me but theyre honest.
I stopped in later in the day, needing a quick emissions inspection. They got me in quick and were extremely helpful and friendly despite being busy. Got my inspection, registration renewed, and sticker all in just 30 minutes. I was really pleased!
Mike and his team were very helpful and friendly. Very low cost for diagnostic services compared to other places who charge 3X the amount just to tell you what needs to be done. Will bring all my cars here from now on.
TL;DR: Thanks to Slaughs, what could have been a $300 fix (as it turned out to be elsewhere) was a $780 journey to getting my car fixed.Ive never had to leave a one star review. I cant say that Ive looked forward to it, but I have to say that when feeling like things were handled very unfairly, a one star is my only voice. So here I am.A few weeks ago, I looked at reviews and Slaughs seemed to have a lot of positive feedback. Being new to the city and the typical woman that knows nothing about cars, I decided to take a chance and go in. My brakes were working funny (on a couple of occasions, not at all for a few seconds) so I knew I needed to get my car into a shop asap. The owner greeted me and was very kind. One of the employees drove my car around, and I told them about the issues I was having. They were sure it was the master cylinder (to me that meant nothing, but I had prepared myself to fix what needed to be fixed.)The owner told me it would be $350 to replace it. So I did just that along with an oil change. I picked it up the next day (they didnt have the part they needed so it had to be shipped). Then I came in and paid the agreed amount. The car seemed sharp enough. I live and work downtown so I dont drive it much and try to only drive it when Im going further distances. After a couple of weeks, I realized the same thing was happening...but it was much worse. Also another problem had popped up (related or unrelated, I hadnt a clue). I drove it a little longer to make sure these things werent just a fluke, took photos of the check engine light and other lights that were on. And with it being a brake issue, I took it in immediately back to the only car place I knew: Slaughs.I told the employee who remembered me (which I thought was nice) that the brakes still werent working and now the car was revving up even when my foot was solely on the brake or in Park, causing the car to jolt a few feet forward at a time - both dangerous symptoms. He took it and drove it around. I waited. An hour went by and I had called family to pass the time. Finally the owner was at the desk and said that they might have found the problem. However, he said it would be $250 fix and it might not even solve the problem. (They also added that if it didnt fix the problem, that would mean it was actually a $2,000 fix).Given that this had been a rough month for me financially already and I had already dropped $350 on replacing a master cylinder that had apparently done nothing for my car... I decided I needed to wait on dropping another $250. So I told the owner that I would need to come back in a couple weeks before I was able to fix the car.And heres the moment. Then the owner said, Okay, well then that will be $130 for the diagnosis in figuring out what was wrong.1. He never told me I would be charged for anything beforehand. I never agreed to any charges. This was the first time I hadnt been told I would be charged for said amount before labor/parts or anything like that.2.I had taken my car into him only a couple weeks ago and he had diagnosed it, obviously, improperly. So why was he charging me for todays? Especially if the problem wasnt fixed when he first attempted to diagnose the problem.I had just finished a 16 hour shift, so I was emotionally and physically too drained to put up any kind of fuss. (Plus, I work in customer service, and I dislike being that person.) I wasnt sure if this sneak-attack charge was normal procedure in the car world...I also figured since it was the owner charging me, it wasnt like I could ask to speak to the manager because I felt like this wasnt fair.I drove away from the car shop out $480 and my car problem was worse than before, plus another problem had mysteriously appeared on top of that. I felt utterly defeated.
I had them double check on a repair that a chain recommended having done. They found no indication of needing that repair, which saved me over $600. I was glad I got a second opinion, and pleased with their integrity.
Ive been here on multiple occasions for services ranging from an oil change to a radiator replacement. Never experienced anything but quick, friendly, and honest service. I cant recommend Slaughs enough.
There are plenty of auto shops in the valley with much better prices and better service. They do great work but overcharge.
I moved to SLC about 2 years ago and tried a few different shops before finding Slaughs. Very happy to have a shop so close to me with such an exceptional staff. Very friendly and willing to help! You dont get talked down to like some other shops do. Fast work and fair pricing. Excellent shop.
Very friendly and fast. Love the family to
We tried slaughs out for the first time. Had the brake pads replaced and they used the cheapest ones they could find. Brakes squealed almost immediately after. Slaughs had also called and said that in the process, one of the wheel studs broke and they fixed it as a courtesy. My husband decided to just replace the brake pads again himself to make sure quality parts were actually used this time. As hes doing so, he finds out that the wheel stud they fixed had broken in half and instead of replacing it, they welded it. He was able to re break it with his arm just while unscrewing the lug nut. I dont care if you have a warranty to guarantee your work if youre just going to do a piss poor job in the first place. Thanks guys, real quality.
I have taken two of my vehicles to Slaughs and have been treated with firness and respect. The first time they werent able to do a required head gasket repair but were able to recommend a shop that could and dont charge me for the diagnosis.
Always great
My whole family takes their vehicles here. Mike Slaugh is always fair and finds the best solution at a lower price. The dealer always tries to rip me off.
Best auto repair shop I have ever been to, anywhere in the country. I first called them to get estimates on what I thought, in my naive internet search, was the problem and cost of replacement. They were the cheapest in town and with good reviews, I decided to give them a try. My guess was wrong and through much testing they found the unique issue, replaced it, I added an oil change while it was there, and all of this was less than what I thought I was going to have to pay from searching the internet. Most places I feel take advantage of peoples’ lack of knowledge and will charge you for as much as they can. The mechanics at Slaugh’s saved me money, took the time to show me the old piece, and explained to me its functionality and what was wrong with it. In the future, I won’t go anywhere else.
Slaughs is the mechanic to go to in slc! I own an older 4runner and was in need of suspension work. The guys at Slaughs were timely and up front
Right now theyre very busy, but they have a lot of return customers they know by name. This is a neighborhood friendly mechanic. Trustworthy
Easily the best auto shop Ive ever dealt with. Always honest, very quick. Nice guys as well.
Ive been going to Larry H. Miller for a long time now for maintenance but decided to get a second opinion when they told me it needed about $1,200 in repairs. My friend Chris at work recommended that I bring my vehicle to Slaughs to see what they would charge. I gave Mr. Mike Slaugh the list of repairs the dealer wanted to do but didnt tell him the prices. Guess what? Mikes cost to fix my vehicle was $164 !!!!I have found my new mechanic. Thank God there are still honest people out there.
Great people run this place, we were in & out in 15 minutes
Great service, great prices, very friendly and quick service. Would highly recommend and will go back!
Right windshield wiper wasnt moving, Midas gave me a $500 estimate to fix. Slaughs took one look, tightened the bolt, didnt charge me. Honest folks.
Best price and warranty combo when I was looking for a new car battery. Nice guys.
Very helpful staff and good service.
Mike at slaughs is honest fair and fast. My experience there has been fantastic.
Firestone told me I had a list of problems that would cost $1700. I took my car into Slaughs and they, being an extremely honest company, told me i had only one problem and it would cost $15. Everything else was BS. They seriously take care of their customers.
Awesome honest service. They do care about your car and will let you know what to expect.
Great place. Honest.
Ive been going to Slaughs Car Care for 18 years and they are the BEST most honest mechanics in town!
I dont know much about cars and always seem get ripped off when dealing with mechanics. Im glad I discovered Slaughs. The people there are friendly, efficient, and fair. I know who Ill be taking my car to next time I need a repair.
Your local neighborhood mechanic that should be your first place to look to when help is needed. Treated me fairly and glad to have them.
