This gym is not an average martial arts gym, the moment you step inside, you are home! Only spot in Sacramento that will treat you like family and make you feel like you are part of something greater. There are belts of all colors and you go at your own pace, men and women of all sizes. The friendliest environment is right here!! Capitol Jiu-Jitsu gives you the proper steps to personal development; when you swing by, you’ll want to stick around for the journey. 🀘

We just joined. My 8yo son has been enrolled at Kovars Satori Academy for the past 4 years. No knock against Kovars, well still be doing that, but now were also going to *have* to add Jiu Jitsu at Capitol because after one trial visit he LOVED it. Hes fussy with his activities, but he was laughing and enjoying this brand new experience the entire time. Hes an absolute beginner and its a completely different activity from karate. The trainers are very friendly and knowledgeable and the lessons are FUN. Its also great for socializing as the kids work together on moves and tumble around in competition and laughter. I would add that unlike karate, there are lots of young girls. From what I could see its also very mixed in ages from 7-15... and all skill levels. Its a fun way to learn self-defense, discipline, and social skills.

Awesome facilities with large training area, separate area for weights and boxing. Very friendly and welcoming community.

I’ve just started and I have no idea what I’m doing. Capitol Jiu Jitsu challenges me to focus, slow my roll, and move my body in ways that are totally foreign to me. Everything feels new and different, and also feels like home.

The classes are at a very convenient time that make it possible to balance a busy work schedule, another sport, and still make it to the classes. Gibran is very good at taking new moves step by step and making sure everybody understands the technique and that it is properly instilled in their mind. Its a great place to learn, train, and grow, no matter what level you wish to take the sport to.

Ive been training here for a bit under 5 months and its great: excellent workout, self-defense skills, and solid instruction. Gibran is very patient and makes himself available after class to answer questions and provide further review to students who need it. Classmates are also a great bunch, with an attitude of respect and helping each other grow.

Love training at EastSacBJJ. Coach Gibran is a very down to earth person and explains every technique through and through. Not to mention, all class members are very humble and eager to learn from one another. Coach also opens the air for discussion of certain techniques we are interested about learning more of. Also makes himself available after class to discuss any additional work one on one. The atmosphere here is great. I totally recommend this place!!!

Martial arts are an interesting proposition - learning to fight and defend yourself (might accidentally get smacked) until youre completely exhausted and then asking if youd like to come and do it again later in the week. I said hell yeah! Gibran is a great instructor and really makes an effort to make sure everyone understands why we do the moves that we do with a focus on self-defense for complete beginners like myself. Will gladly go back to get smacked around some more and get in a great workout!

So much fun! I just started a little over a month ago and I highly recommend you come out and try a class. I’m a total beginner, I wasn’t in the best condition and I’m not a youngin’, so I had my concerns, but nobody makes you do anything you aren’t comfortable with and there are other beginners of all sizes here to work with. Gibran is a great instructor and keeps classes light and fun. I’m getting back in shape and learning self defense, and that is pretty cool.

East Sac BJJ is a wonderful place to train. Gibran teaches in such a way that the skill work for self-defense or sport situations, and takes the time to not only explain how to do the moves, but why they work. This builds a great foundation for knowing how to respond in a given situation and how to adapt to adversity.East Sac BJJ has established an environment where people of all skill levels can come and train for whatever goals they may have. This has attracted a group of students who are friendly supportive of each other. The idea of jiu jitsu for everybody is more than just a slogan here.

My experience at East Sac BJJ has been extremely positive, even transformational. Gibran Maciel, ESBJJs head coach and owner, is conscientious and deliberate in his approach to training but also flexible to the extent that he is able to work effectively with any student, no matter the skill level or ability. Make no mistake: we train hard at this gym but there is an opportunity for EVERYONE to improve and excel. Gibran has an excellent background in BJJ/Martial Arts and is a respected member of the community. The students at this school respect one another as training partners and as people. After you spend a lot of time with your dojo friends the camaraderie and chemistry with them really begins to matter. We push and challenge each other, but it is always for the betterment of one another. At a certain point in this journey, I fell in love with practicing BJJ. The focus on working hard to get better at BJJ has led to a healthier life outside the gym as well.

I have been training consistently in BJJ for 2 years. Ive trained with the some of the greatest athletes in Sacramento under Team Alpha Male trainers Chris Holdsworth and Dustin Akbari. Gibran at East Sac BJJ is among those top athletes with clear and efficient strategies to teach. Everyone there is eager to learn and open to new comers. I highly recommend attending if you want a welcoming atmosphere with top level training.

Training here has allowed to work with not only a valuable and knowledgeable instructor, it has also allowed me to meet new people, and make new friends. Anyone looking for a jiu jitsu school to start or continue their training should come here.
